We don't Need No Stinking Licenses!

For those who asked the driver's test didn't go as hoped yesterday.  #2 is walking around like Joe Bfstplk today.

I won't go into a tirade about state government bureaucrats aka driving examiners masquerading as asshats...and their bias against kids who have their parents teach them(and actually force them to do the full 60 hours of road work)as opposed to those who pay for a driving school(where they don't actually meet the state min. road requirements but I suspect they give kickbacks to some of these examiners)....but I really could! lol

Let's just say there is no joy in Mudville today......

  1. Did he miss something while driving? Tell him not to feel bad. My elder brother missed 3 times before getting it right. I missed it once (and I was 23 years old), but passed the second time. I haven't met anyone that passed it their first times either. So chin up, and good luck on his third try! (a co-worker's kid brother failed it 4 times before passing.)

    1. This was his first try Tanner. Here, they test you on parallel parking first and don't even road test you if you fail that. He passed the PP but when he pulled up to the stop sign to leave the parking lot for the road test, he pulled past the white line on the road....boom. The guy could have made a note on that and let him drive some as that 1 thing was NOT some big no no....like running a stop sign or light or not using a turn signal or pulling out in front of moving traffic...and then if he was a disaster on the road, flunk him. Nope. 3ft. past the line....lol

  2. Oh, forgot to mention... if you're able, changing locations helps tremendously. The time I failed was at the local DMV, which everyone in the state knows to be godawful. My second time was at a much nicer facility 1.5hrs away. It was worth the drive. They actually treat you like people there! I didnt think that was possible around DMVs!

    1. Here it's just trying to find a location to GET a road test! The wait is 4-6 WEEKS to schedule one....if you're lucky you can find one that soon. It's ridiculous. Just about ALL the teens here get flunked the first time, I think they are all in cahoots.lol The only exception is if you get a woman examiner.....they aren't hard asses like the men ones on their little power trips.

  3. Did they give him any feedback as to why he failed?

  4. They do the same thing in Philly. I swear everyone of my kids and everyone of their friends flunked on there first try. Its almost like they are knocking them down a peg or something

    He will past next time....

  5. It is the same way where we live. I have had exchange students who paid for a driving school pass the test and they in no way could drive safely and you know it is a kick back.

  6. When I was 17 my mother paid to put me in the expensive driving school. It was 1992 and cost $800. Every kid I knew who took lessons with that company passed their exam the first time out. Everyone who took driving lessons through the school program (which cost much less) failed the first time every single time. Not too obvious the Ontario government Ministry of Transportation and Young Drivers of Canada had a lucrative thing going on. In 1967 in Newfoundland you had to be tested by a RCMP officer. My then 18 year old mother wore her shortest mini skirt and passed her first time out :) explains how she passed despite using one foot for the gas and one for the brake....lol!!
    The good old days.

Hope your son feels better soon. That picture is too funny. I can totally picture your son moping around in a funk.

  7. Sounds like he failed on a technicality. I failed the first time, too. Another technicality. Tell him that MANY people have had the same experience.

  9. Sorry to hear that. Our kids went to "driving school" and they were all terrible drivers, but they passed the test. So, I think you are right about the kickbacks. Fortunately, they have improved some.

  10. I'm so sorry. Tell him chin up and to take his permit, a parent and find this guys house-then hit his mailbox.
Anna and DJ both went to driving schools because the high school has such a long list for on the road. And I really don't blame the school. They don't have enough teachers that are willing to teach the kids. I can't say as I blame them.
Anna went to a really great school. We were very happy with them and then they closed. DJ went to another school here in town and they were TERRIBLE. The instructor would skip chapters and then never go back and teach it. Then she would make the kids drive her around to pick up her mother and run their errands! It was a joke. And I have to say that Anna was a much better driver than DJ was when they started out. So it has nothing to do with going to a school it has to go with the dedication of the person teaching them to drive!
