Frugal Friday....the December 31st Edition

So here are a few of the frugal-ish things that happened here this past week.......

*  Been eating all the Christmas leftovers this week when not using gift cards for take-out.  No food waste so far. ;-)

*  Santa was very good to me last week........

3 gift cards, a 6 pack of craft beer, a bottle of Prosecco(+ a can of peaches to make Peach Bellinis), a new calculator, a set of ginormous wind chimes(not pictured), a set of cat butt fridge magnets, some tea packets, some mints, fridge clips, mailing tape, a magnifying glass(thanks Hubs!lol), 2 tins of homemade candy(mmm), a cat butt coin purse, a tin with emergency underwear(make me feel even older than I do Sissie!), reusable bubbles to pop, and some hazelnut choccies.

Now everyone needs to gear up because my birthday is 3 weeks away and I expect even MORE presents! LOLZ

*  Christmas was a lowkey affair here.  Most of the family(missing my daughter and her hubby in Louisiana)were here.  We had appetizers and a modest meal mostly from foods I had here.  The salt cured ham and fresh produce were the only new purchases.  Everyone left full and happy.

*  Took up another donation to the food bank.  Another 40 items out of the house and with rebating/coupons this stuff cost me pennies if that.

There was also a trip to Salvation Army to drop off another 20 items to donate as well so the decluttering continues......

*  Except I hit the after Christmas clearance sales and added to what is in the house.  I tried to contain myself and only buy things for gifts for next year.  I showed some restraint. *snort*

*  I remember a couple of years ago when the Downton Abbey movie came out.  I so wanted to see it but Hubs wouldn't go with me and I really didn't want to spend that kind of money on a movie ticket. Christmas night after everyone left and Hubs went upstairs to take a nap I put on the local PBS and guess what they were showing?  The Downton Abbey movie. 8-))

*   I found money!

Sissie put .41¢ in the cat butt coin purse she gifted me on Christmas.

I made the rounds for clearance finds on Dec. 26th and found this dime at my Rite-Aid....

Then this penny at a different R-A.........

And this nickel at Walmart.

A dime and a penny as I hung around waiting for Hubs to bring me my wallet to Walmart(a clusterf**k of a day I tell ya!)

While sort of "not" found money I got this at the Walmart CS desk from an employee with less than stellar math skills as it's $3.95 more than I was expecting.......(but I won't count this as found money).

And this dime on the 29th somewhere...Weis?, Rite-Aid?, Walmart?  My mind just can't seem to remember where this was found.  I didn't leave the house on Wednesday or Thursday so that cut down on the change finding a bit.

Total Found in last Week...... .78¢
Total Found This Year......$24.38

That's about all I've got for this week.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!

And here is today's Holiday song...........

Finishing Off Ibotta for The Year

There was no way in hell I was going to reach the $45 for 140 offers Bonus for December(especially since I wasn't grocery shopping/around for about 9 days of the month).  But I did get all the rest of the "reasonable Bonuses" completed.  yay me!

Here is what I bought on Tuesday to finish off the Midweek "whatever they called it" Bonus this week.......

1 x Cheetos mac and cheese cup=.96¢
1 x Cheetos mac and cheese box=.96¢
2 x Durex condoms=$5.76
1 x Glad trash bags=$5.12
3 x Aleve small containers=$5.94
1 x Keurig Donut Shop Holiday tin coffee=$5.00
1 x Nivea lotion=$5.84
1 x Rockstar energy drink=$1.50
1 x Celestial Seasonings tea assortment=$2.50
2 x Bic Gelocity pen assortment=$15.74
2 x Clorox wipes travel size=$1.94
Subtotal.......$51.26

I used $40.00 in free gift cards so paid $11.26 OOP +$1.81 in sales tax=$13.07.  I earned back $34.77 in rebates and a $3 Bonus on Ibotta, $2 back on Coupons dotcom, as well as 236 Fetch points and 4,820 Shop Kicks($19.28).

But then I forgot to use my 2 paper coupons so went to CS desk.  The Qs came to $2.05.  Last time I forgot Qs, the CSM put the amount on a Walmart gift card.  This time she said she had to return the items and rering them(price adjusting for the coupons)and gave me cash.  She shoved the money into my hand and was quick to get on to the next person.  Once I pulled the cash out of my coat pocket in my car I saw it was this..........

$6.  I saw two bills when she handed it to me(thinking it was 2 $1 bills and she forgot the nickel but no,
Walmart employee math is wonky,  Wonky in my favor. lolz  Now my $24.70 moneymaker is a $30.70 moneymaker. 8-)))

So I am probably done rebating for 2021 but........there are two days left in the year so...........we'll see! ;-)

For Sissie-I Cleaned Up Good!

Again, here is the state of my living/dining room last week........

The tree is up(but nekkid)and tubs of stuff and other crap in the green chair......

TP and shipping boxes taking over the living room......

TP, shipping boxes and a giant painting by the sofa.......

Lots of eBay-ables in this corner of the living room....

A shit show in the dining room....

And here is how it looked on Christmas.........

The tree is all decorated and lit.......

The bannister garlanded and lit.

The green chair was "sittable" and those heavy tubs got camouflaged with a xmas tablecloth. lol  That picture Cousin Sonya gave me 2 Xmases ago(I still need to find the right place to hang it and get Hubs to do that).

BTW-Today is Sonya's birthday so leave her some love in the comments!!!

But I digress.....
The corner with the eBay-ables is mostly empty.  Wasn't going to lift heavy tubs just to bring them back down the stairs so again, another camo job with a Xmas cloth, a candle and my crystal sleigh centerpiece(which wouldn't fit on the dining room table with tableware for 7). lol

This is the sofa.  Taken the day after Xmas so there are empty/used gift bags and boxes on the coffee table instead of Xmas day snacks along with Hubs singing Xmas cactus. lolz

The dining room sideboard decluttered with a table runner, candles, pots of scented pinecones and my chicken tea pot.
I didn't bother taking a photo of the dining room table because dinner was over and the table was bare except for dirty cloth napkins and tablecloth.

Our big white Xmas tree has discolored as it's aged so I bought a small white tree in November to replace it.  Being so small we didn't have room for many ornaments so we put a few up that had meaning to us and ones from recent trips and vacations.

An iguana for St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

A Totem from Saxman Village, Ketchikan, Alaska

A main street scene of Skagway, Alaska

A homemade ornie made with a Sand Dollar from the Bahamas

A scene from Icy Strait Point near Hoonah, Alaska

A pony representing Chincoteague Island, Virginia.

Of course being busy cooking and all I didn't get ANY actual photos of our family on Christmas that were here!  And nobody else ever thinks to pick up their phone and take a photo.  sigh

So do I pass inspection Sissie??

I hope everyone had some fun this Christmas along with the craziness and busyness.  Me?  I just want to nap for a week......... 8-)))
But first another Holiday song....

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Childhood Memories" Edition...

I was feeling low one day last week and opened one of my few remaining cans of the "throwback" Beefaroni.  Once I was old enough to be left home alone on a Friday night by my parents, this was my usual Friday meal as I got comfy in my beanbag chair to watch something on TV.  It tasted like freedom and independence to me back then.  Ah, nostalgia.....;-)

Onward to the meal planning!

1. Sunday--No Plan
2. Monday--No Plan
3. Tuesday--No Plan
4. Wednesday--No Plan
5. Thursday--No Plan
6.  Friday--No Plan
7. Saturday--No Plan

And this is what really happened.......
1. Sunday--Apple w/peanut butter
2. Monday--Don't recall
3. Tuesday--Don't recall
4. Wednesday--I didn't eat dinner(had a Whopper for lunch
5. Thursday--Salad, Popcorn
6.  Friday--Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Rice
7. Saturday--Christmas Dinner

What got put into the freezer last week....
*  1 bag of Brussels Sprouts

What got taken out of the freezer and used...
* 1 bag of Brussels Sprouts

I spent $47.61 on food/toiletries/HBA the last 2 weeks. This brings our food/toiletries/paper goods Total to $139.96 for December.

There are 5 shopping days left in December.  I may go out for milk and a few assorted things but mostly I am done grocery shopping in 2021.

I've earned $138.79 on Ibotta in December.
I've earned $7.00 on Checkout51 in December.
I've earned $0 on Coupons dotcom/Paypal in December.
I've earned 11,661points from shopping on Fetch in December which equals $11.66.
I earned 3,980 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in December which equals $15.92.
I've earned 1,408 SB from food shopping on Swagbucks in December which equals $14.08.
I've earned $4.20 from food shopping on Tada in December.

That's $145.79 in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Tada/Fetch)on $139.96 in grocery spending so in reality it's -$5.83 spent after the 3 rebate apps I count.  Yay me.....

My savings percentage for the last week was 66.14%(without "regular" Rite-Aid trips)and the monthly savings total for December comes in at 43.65% so far(w/out R-A).

Leftovers going into this week....lots of Christmas dinner fare-lasagna, salt cured VA ham, Hawaiian rolls, deviled eggs, roasted veggies, mac and cheese, etc.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--FFY
2. Monday--Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, Baked Sweet Potatoes
3. Tuesday--Lasagna, leftover Roasted Veggies
4. Wednesday--Broccoli Cheese Soup
5. Thursday--Assorted Leftovers
6.  Friday--Late Lunch out using gift card
7. Saturday--More Leftovers

We'll be eating leftovers from Christmas plus I am using some leftover roux/cheese from the mac and cheese I made plus some fresh broccoli that didn't get roasted to make a soup later in the week.  The Pork cutlets I found at Weis(PMITA)Markets on clearance.

What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu?  Not a thing.  Eating up leftovers mostly.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

Here's today's Holiday tune......

Frugal Friday....the Christmas Eve Dec. 24th Edition

So here are a few of the frugal-ish things that happened during this past week.......

*  I haven't cooked a single meal in 3 weeks(today I begin cooking for Christmas day).  How is that frugal?  Well, I've been using up some of my free food gift cards and doing intermittent fasting as well.  I've taken off ALL the weight I gained on vacation.  Most of the weight was from imbibing alcoholic refreshments and not taking my water pill for a week.  I got a lot of walking done on the ship and shore. Go me.

*  Last weekend Easy Spirit shoes website had a big sale(more than 50% off on some styles/sizes)so I ordered a butt load of shoes and they came 2 days ago.....

I haven't even had time to open the box yet.  Not only was it a great deal on about the only brand of shoes I can wear but I loaded up and now can get rid of some worn out pairs that hurt my feet.

*  While we were in the area I shopped at Aldi to get some items cheaper than the local grocery store.  Cheap butter, tortilla chips and a Stollen for Christmas?  Yes please!

*  I had to get a new cell phone as mine started dying on the vacation.  Did I get the newest and latest with all the gegaws that cost as much as a month's rent or a mortgage payment?  Silly question if you know me. lol  I got a "nice" phone that does what I need it to do and spent $400 on it.

*  I did some grocery shopping this week to finish up a $10 Ibotta Bonus.  I earned $42.28 in rebates and only spent $9.40 after using free Walmart gift cards.
Whether I'll finish 12 more rebates to get this Weekend $5 Bonus is yet to be seen. ;-)  I've still got $40 in free Walmart gift cards. 8-)))

*  I've been using up/rolling Bonus Cash at R-A to get stocking stuffers for my family for cheap or free.  Most of this BC needs using or it is expiring so best to use it up, right?  I've only got a few BC to spend on the day after Christmas left so I am show I'll find some clearance stuff to use it up on. 8-)

*   I found money!

I found a crumpled up dollar on the floor in my Rite-Aid and then a penny near the register on Tuesday.

I found all the above on that same day at various places.  When I found that dollar at my R-A the cashier said when you find money laying around it's a sign angels are watching over you.  I think she gave me a dash of good luck for the rest of the day as I found $1.54 in money on that day alone!

I found this quarter at the Burger King drive thru when I used a coupon to get a drink for a $1.

This dime and penny were found I don't remember where over the weekend(Walmart?)...

I found this dime at the Verizon store when I got my new phone and the 3 pennies were found in Weis(PMITA)Markets-one under the newspaper rack and the other two in the foyer leaving the store.

And this quarter was found in the Aldi parking lot in an abandoned cart far from the corral.
It was a great week finding change!!

Total Found in last Week...... $2.28
Total Found This Year......$23.60

That's about all I've got for this week.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!

And here is today's Christmas selection...........

It's Coming Along.....

Well part of the living room is done and presentable.........

The tree is fully decorated and the corresponding tubs are back upstairs.

And the wall of tp and mailing boxes are gone.  I still have to move crap from the other side of the room, then vacuum the rug and clean the wood floor in here.

No progress on the dining room as it is wrapping central right now.  I should have everything boxed and bagged by tonight so I can clear that room out and set it up for dinner.

All the food has been procured and I am about to start the boiling of the ham(a long slow procedure)so I can bake it tomorrow so it's nice and chilled for Christmas.

More tunes to get y'all into the Holiday Spirit........

This "Messiah" aria was in my performance repertoire during my short lived career as an operatic/choral singer and is still a favorite for Christmastime.

And now for my personal tradition due to my redneck Southern roots......

And now from the ridiculous to the sublimey fun......

Frugal Friday.....the December 17th Edition on Tuesday

So here are a few of the frugal-ish things that happened during the last 2 weeks, both here and while we were away being "tortured" on a cruise. lololz

*  I haven't cooked a single meal in 2 weeks.  How is that frugal?  Well, I've been using up some of my free food gift cards and doing intermittent fasting as well.  I've taken off nearly all the weight I gained on vacation.  Yay.

*  We won lots of "plastic prizes".......

The wooden pens are very nice.   Just call us Trivia Sharks....

* We got a free bottle of champagne on the cruise which I gave to my brother to bring home.  Instead of carefully packing it in his checked luggage he decided to put it in his carry on bag and TSA confiscated it.  Had I know he'd pull that bonehead move I'd had packed it MY checked bag then given it to him when we got to his house. Oh well....

*  Speaking of champagne I played a group game in the Atrium one night and I made a fan, some random women watching the game and she gave me an even bigger bottle of champagne as she enjoyed my performance.  Luckily I didn't give that bottle to my brother and it made it home with me. ;-)

*  I saved over $600 on the cruise due to a bad incident(more on that later).

*  We brought my brother and his wife their Christmas presents when we drove down to VA to take the plane so we didn't have to pay to ship them later. ;-)

*  I took advantage of free ship credit offer on a future cruise while on the ship.  We have 4 years to use the deposit monies on this offer.  I think that's doable....what do you say Kim and Sissie?

*  We took snacks with us on the airport days to save on food.  Airport food prices are ridiculous as you are a captive audience.

*   I found money!

This two weeks worth(and we were traveling for one of those weeks).  I can't recall exactly what was found where....multiple Rite-Aids, at Mickey D's Drive throughs, in Airports, on the Cruise Ship at Casino Cashier area, Walmart at home, R-A at home, etc(I'll try to remember when I blog about the vacation later)so here's a photo of it all......

Total Found in last 2 Weeks...... $1.17
Total Found This Year......$21.32

That's about all I can remember and my phone has been acting up(I think it's phone Tourette's)so this will have to do.

Any frugal wins for anyone else out there?

And now, another Christmas song of the day , favorite version of this song..........

Incidentally, the lyrics to this song were written by someone who lived in my neck of the Pennsylvania woods, Richard Smith.  A Honesdale, PA native.

He was being treated for TB in the West Mountain Sanitorium in Scranton, PA in 1934 where he wrote the lyrics.  Dick Smith relapsed and died of the disease in 1935 on his birthday in NYC.  He never lived to see the classic his song would become.

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Back to Ibotta at Walmart" Edition...

*Not pictured bag of frozen Brussels Sprouts.*

I jumped back into Ibotta rebating this week at Walmart(and used some Bonus Cash at R-A to get rebates as BC was expiring). I spent $32.55 OOP at Walmart on all this. I had $40 in free gift cards as well that I used.  I earned $37.90 back on Ibotta counting Weekend Bonus, 5,415 pts.($5.41)on Fetch and ? on ShopKick(the app won't open right now but it was about 500 pts.).
I used 1 coupon and get a pair and complained when the app and shelf price was $1.97 on the baby wipes but they rang up $2.12.  Got the difference back so the total spend was a bit lower than I am reporting. ;-)
$32.55 spent and $37.90 back in Ibotta rebates works for me! lol

Onward to the meal planning!

1. Sunday--No Plan
2. Monday--No Plan
3. Tuesday--No Plan
4. Wednesday--No Plan
5. Thursday--No Plan
6.  Friday--No Plan
7. Saturday--No Plan

And this is what really happened.......
1. Sunday--traveling, a shake at Shake Shack, small box of granola in airport somewhere
2. Monday--Stargate Diner in DE(traveling some more)
3. Tuesday--Chinese take-out(I had soup.)
4. Wednesday--Fend for Yourself
5. Thursday--Red Lobster(shrimp lunch)
6.  Friday--Taco Bell(cheesy Gordita box which lasted me 3 meals)
7. Saturday--leftover Taco Bell or FFY

What got put into the freezer last week....
*  2 pints of Ice Cream
*  1 bag of Brussels Sprouts

What got taken out of the freezer and used...
* Nothing

I spent $92.35 on food/toiletries/HBA the last 2 weeks(half of  that total was a Virginia salt cured ham for Christmas). This brings our food/toiletries/paper goods Total to $92.35 for December.  That's what happens*a low spend*when you leave town for half that time and don't cook. lolz

There are 12 shopping days left in December.

I've earned $57.22 on Ibotta in December.
I've earned $0 on Checkout51 in December.
I've earned $0 on Coupons dotcom/Paypal in December.
I've earned 5,926 points from shopping on Fetch in December which equals $23.70.
I earned ? points from food shopping on Shop Kick in December which equals $?.  The app keeps closing on me this morning.
I've earned 1,116  SB from food shopping on Swagbucks in December which equals $11.16.
I've earned $4.20 from food shopping on Tada in December.

That's $57.22 in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Tada/Fetch)on $92.35 in grocery spending so in reality it's $35.13 spent after the 4 rebate apps I count.  Yay me.....

My savings percentage for the last 2 weeks was 42.77%(without "regular" Rite-Aid trips)and the monthly savings total for December comes in at 42.77% so far(w/out R-A).

Leftovers going into this week....nothing.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--take-out Pizza and Salad
2. Monday--FFY as we are going to Red Lobster for lunch
3. Tuesday--?
4. Wednesday--?
5. Thursday--?
6.  Friday--?
7. Saturday--?

I am flying by the seat of my pants this week and may actually be forced to cook something.  Oh the horror! ;-)

What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu?  No clue.  I'll try to dig through what is here and come up with some odd meals to use stuff up.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Rite-Aid Pillaging This Week & Christmas Cheer

I may go back today as I have a purchase based coupon($9 off $45)to use before the 23rd, but here is what left Rite-Aid this week and ended up at Chez Sluggy.....

2 x bags of Jordan Almonds
6 x 3 packs of Irish Spring soap
1 x Vera Wang Cologne
2 x Suave shampoo
1 x Refresh shampoo(on clearance)
1 x Sky Organics Bentonite Clay mask
3 x Lipton iced tea w/lemon packets
4 x Red chocolate bars
3 x Twix candy bars
1 x Reese dark chocolate cups
16 x R-A batteries
2 x Diet Cokes(not pictured)

This was all done over 4 cards(well 3 cards except I used the 4th card to do the batteries again).
I had 3 x $3 off $15 spend on various cards so those were used as well.  The only other Q I used was on the Refresh shampoo($2.50/1).

Total spent.....$102.98 paid with Bonus Cash
Total earned back.......$84.00 in BC, $4 on Ibotta(Vera Wang, Sky Organics), $4 on SwagBucks(Red chocolate bars), 360 pts on Fetch($3.60)equaling $95.60 back in various rebates.   This means I "spent" BC of $7.38 on all the above.

Most of this is Xmas fodder or food bank items, but not the Jordan Almonds or Vera Wang as I love me both of those things. ;-)

Remember that your couponing stockpile is a great! source for small gifts, making gift baskets of items or stocking fillers for the Holidays(as well as for donation items like food banks, shelters, angel trees, etc.).  No need to hand over that green cash when you have a giving heart and a stockpile.  Just sayin'...

Here is one of the Youtubers I follow, "Couponing with Crystle".  She hit the nail on the head with this video HERE

One week to go but don't stress out if you are behind.  Give yourself some grace and just scale it back this year.

Now here is the daily Christmas song and have a great day no matter what is on your plate today(I am still working on the living/dining room myself here). 8-)))

Due to so much to do here Frugal Friday will be delayed.  I have TWO WEEKS worth to catch up on but there are more pressing matters at hand.

So while I dig out from my mess so I can share(probably Sunday)here's a not often heard Christmas tune from the Big Band Era for your listening pleasure...........

Warts & All *OCD Warning*

So it's now December 16th, 2021.  9 days until the fat man arrives with his sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.  It would also be my oldest brother's 70th Birthday were he still alive.  We lost him in June of 2009(well really in January of 2008 when he went into a coma that he never came out of).  He had just turned 58 so I am feeling a bit sad today.  He was one of the loveliest souls that ever walked the earth in my humble opinion.  A big Happy Birthday in Heaven to you my big brother!

We got home from our vacation on Sunday evening.  The only thing I have accomplished since Sunday was unpacking my suitcase, doing tons of laundry(which Hubs helped with...oh hell, he did most of it, who am I kidding?), going to Rite-Aid(both for Rxs and for deals), paying a couple of bills(oh the pain!), mailing ONE package and going to the PO to ask about getting our held mail.  No cooking, no cleaning and a lot of lying on my BFF the heating pad in bed.

We put up the Xmas tree and I mailed a big honking box of birthday and Christmas presents to my daughter and her hubby in Louisiana before we left but as far as Christmas decorating, cards, cooking, present wrapping that is it.  I told myself I'd have PLENTY of time to get everything done when we got back.

HA!

So here I am baring my soul  and the state of some of my house to y'all on the 9th day before Christmas.

If you have OCD please back out of this page now!!  You have been warned........ ;-)

This first photo of the living room isn't too bad.....there's our little tree and I even put a xmas cloth under it.  Ignore the shit and tubs of junk on the chair next to it and next to the chair.

Here's what to the left of the tree in the living room-my tp stash(all of it pre-Covid)and piles of mailing boxes.  Ya see, the grand plan in my head(which never happened)was that I'd jump back into eBay selling in the Fall(September?)so I brought all the mailing supplies from the garage here to be more convenient to pack and ship what I sold.  Of course as many grand plans this one never materialized, what with going to my brother's house and then Sissie's house in September, the work on the powder room and the kitchen by our handyman in the Fall, a bridal shower in Jersey and just regular "life" stuff then our international travel the beginning of December.......well this is the result.

Another shot of the sofa and more boxes.  I am pretty pleased with this one as the sofa was covered with gifts before that box got off to Louisiana and I haven't put anything else there.lol

Here's what the other side of the living room looks like.  Mostly it's tubs and piles of crap I didn't get around to listing let alone selling on eBay.  I know Sissie is gasping in horror at this..........

And if that wasn't enough to send you over the edge, here is a shot of the dining room table(which isn't a 'real' dining room table at all but a folding table).  The tablecloth is rolled up on one end as I used it to wrap the presents sent to LA.  There are bags of boxes, bows, a bag of gift wrap as well as grocery type bags of stuff I was going to sell on eBay and locally.  Add in a couple of pre-filled Giveaway boxes for the next few months and that's what I am dealing with at Chez Sluggy at the moment.

Company is coming in NINE DAYS so I have eight days to shape up the downstairs and spew Christmas around in the house.
Can I get it done?

Come back tomorrow and see what I got done(or not).
Until then I'm putting on the Holiday tunes and getting my big fat white ass in gear!

Are y'all  ready for Christmas?

Sluggy
