A Wednesday Funny....Well, Funny If It Wasn't Real

So between all the cleaning, repairing and decluttering I've been looking at potential houses down where we're looking at moving to.
Now I can see an agent having a typo or misspelling or three in a description but this one takes the cake!  I can only assume this agent has a third grade education or got an F in spelling.
Check it out......

"1.42 ACRES OF PURE BLISS !!!! YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS 3 BED 2 BATH 1680 SQ FT MANUFACTURED HOME LOCATED IN DESOT PARISH. THIS HOME COMES WITH MANY UPDATES TO INLCUDE GRANATE COUNTER TOPS, STAINLESS STEAL APPLIANCES, SHIP LAP ACCENT WALLS, 2 CAR GARAGE, CONCRETE DRIVE WAY, LAMINATE FLOORS, BRICK SKIRTING, VYNL WINDOWS, UPRADED PLYWOOD FLOORING, ARCHETECHUAL SHINGLES, AND SO MUCH MORE. CALL TODAY FOR YOUR PRIVATE SHOWING !!!"

And if that isn't bad enough, it's Desoto Parish, not Desot. lolz
I count 8 misspellings/typos plus it's all in caps! I would think that a realty office would have a proofreader on stafff or at least an autocorrect function on it's computers?

I'm no spelling Nazi but seriously?!?!

  1. "Drive way?" The punctuation misspellings are atrocious, too. The brick skirting sold me right away. That is a fancy doublewide. At least the particle board won't dissolve having upgraded to plywood.

I cannot believe that with your aversion of the heat and humidity that you will be moving to LA. But, that is why there is ac, so you will live through it.

    1. Well Hubs wants out of the snow belt and we want to move close to one of our kids. The youngest isn't really settled anywhere and we doubt oldest will ever leave NJ so LA/TX it is.

  2. Didn't know you were intending to move. Good Luck! That real estate guy...

  3. I don't know what I would be more scared of the spelling or the mobile home....

  4. Spelling and typos aside ( as I'm so guilty of both in blog world), is it a manufactured home like mobile home, or will it have a solid base? I know basements are not always usual in the south, but what's the safety rating for storms, flood, tornado's? My one sister had a prefabricated, but installed over a traditional basement. Another had a manufactured but there was brickwork and a secure base. I'm asking for personal someday reference

  5. As an English teacher, I am horrified at this ad. I am not familiar with all the terminology, but this sounds like a mobile home or trailer as they are called in the South. The skirting refers to covering the open space underneath to keep out animals and make things look more attractive. I live in Mississippi, so can advise (a bit) about basements and such. You do not want a basement in the deep South due to the types of soil (clay soil shifts a lot) and possible flooding. Flooding possibility will depend on where you live (flood zone ?). However, you definitely do not want to be in a trailer during a bad storm or a tornado. Hope this helps.

    1. I live in the Deep South and had a basement for almost 50 years without a leak. However, neighbors next door had leaks. It depends on the soil AND the construction. My basement had one foot thick sides and bottom. It was built in 1902, so not sure what they did so well.
I did live in a high spot, higher than many in the neighborhood.
The skirting is usually a metal strip from trailer to ground that does a lot of things, helping to keep cold from the pipes.

  6. That listing has so many errors, it isn't even funny. I would avoid that realty office like the plague. My biggest peeve is people pluralizing with apostrophes. The latest violation came from the local high school, who sent out a newsletter with the heading "TECH FINES' LIST." So, they had moved from making me suffer through the misplaced singular apostrophe, to an even weirder, plural apostrophe. I DID email the principal, telling her that, generally speaking, it is not necessary to use an apostrophe when pluralizing.

  7. Apostrophe errors drive me crazy. I walked by a restaurant chalkboard yesterday and wanted to wipe out the apostrophe in OMELETTE'S.

  8. That ad is awful! I don't think English grammar/spelling has been taught much in public schools during this past 30 years or so. It shows!

Most real estate agents enter their own MLS data, unless they are part of a team that pays a transaction coordinator to handle the details.

And auto correct creates it's own issues. I disable it to the extent possible, but every time there is an update, I'm back to Square One! LOL

  9. If you were in the south right now, you would hate it. It just hit 100 degrees at Mobile airport. It's like an oven outside.
