Frugal Friday....the February 12th Edition

Let's take a look at the frugal wins from this past week around here at Chez Sluggy......

*  I already blogged about my BIG(lol) Rite-Aid haul this week where I rolled/spent down some Bonus Cash....

And for Ms. Goose--the $15 BC wyspend $50 coupon is confirmed for next week!  If it's not in your local ad go online to print it out. 8-)

*  When I went back to R-A on Wednesday for an Rx refill I also did a post coupon for a Q I forgot to use last week when I purchased something.......

That gives me $2 back in my pocket!  Well, back in my refund/post Q envelope really....

* I also did another transaction last week(Friday)at Rite-Aid on another card using that $10 off $50Q.......

The 2 Tides, 7 Febreeze items(one is not pictured as I put it in my car to use-a car deodorizer)were part of the $10 BC wys $30 PandG deal last week.
The R-A brand insoles were $1.99 after Gold discount and gave back $3BC for every 2 packs.
The 2 Neutrogena items were $7.72 after Gold discount and $6.50 in Qs and gave back $6BC.
The ruler and eraser were $1.85 after Gold discount and gave back $4 in BC.
The dog treats were .80¢ after Gold discount and had .50¢ freshness stickers so cost .60¢ total for both packages.
Total was $58.33 after Gold discounts and after $30.47 in coupons it came to $27.86 + $1.44 tax=$29.30 paid for with Bonus Cash.
I earned back $26 in new BC($10 wys $30 PandG, 2 x $3 R-A insoles, $6 Neutrogena, 2 x $2 R-A stationery)so spent down the BC by $3.30.

*  I did a small shop at Weis(PMITA)Markets on Wednesday as well between snowstorms.  Nothing to show really, just a few bits and bobs we needed(a can of sauerkraut that Hubs requested as we were out,), Salad Greens(one had a 50% sticker), Weis brand sugar(was a really good deal), some dehydrated potato flakes(got 50% back on Ibotta), Chinese crunchy noodles(have you seen the high price of those!?! but I finally broke down at paid full price because we've got a can of chow mein we need the noodles for), 2 jugs of tea(on sale)and a 2 pack of panko pork tenderloin filets(with a discount sticker on it for the freezer).  $18.46 was the cost OOP and it's the only money I've spent this week.

*  Do you remember my final shop at CVS last week?

If you remember I lamented that the Cheez-Its were NOT on sale as the old signage stated so I ended up paying $2.30 OOP after ECBs and gift card.
CVS emailed me a "how did we do" survey last weekend and I told them about the signage issue.  I got an email from the store manager to come in for a refund of the difference between what I paid and what the sign said the price was.  Haven't had a chance yet to go in yet(it's not close and hello-constant snow storms all week!)but I'll print out the email and next time I go down the mountain that way I'll pop in for the refund.
Stay tuned.

*  While doing the end of January bookkeeping I discovered I didn't account for an Amazon Pantry order I made last month.  I'll just put it into February's tally so no worries.  Also I used a free Amazon gift card to pay the $33.23 it came to so it wouldn't change my January spending(just the total of what the savings rate was as it was free).  It was 11 household/food items they had put on a short time sale(some I bought multiples of so more than 11 items in total in the order).  Stuff like tea bags, minced garlic, parsley flakes, carpet deodorizer, bags of tortilla chips, a box of rice Chex, cold care tea bags, chicken stock, bathroom cups, etc.  Free shipping once I hit the $30 threshold I believe.

*  I found money!

This penny was found at Weis(PMITA)Markets by my favorite self-checkout.

And that same day in Rite-Aid I passed a freestanding display of gift cards and one of the hooks with a bunch of gift cards was laying on the ground.  So I bent over to pick the hook/cards up to put it back on the display and I spied a dime in the corner there.  Who says it doesn't pay to be kind? lol

Then on the way out of R-A this rock salt coated penny was lying by the door on the sidewalk outside.  It's still cruddy after I gave it a bath but there is a penny under there. ;-)

Considering I only went to 2 stores this past week I am happy with this found money total. ;-)

Found Money This Week... .12¢
Found Money This Year....  .52¢

That's about it for me this week other than staying home, playing with the doggies in the snow, no take-out and eating down the pantry and freezers.  Hubs and I may go to Ollie's(Good Stuff Cheap!)tomorrow as I still have a 15% off coupon that expires on Sunday.

What frugal wins did y'all have this week?

Tell us all about it!

Two Frugal Fridays-Oct. 9th & Oct. 16th....the October 17th Edition

So emergency surgery has come and gone but in it's wake my blogging has taken a back seat.  Here are two weeks worth of Frugal Friday posts, not that there is a lot to report in on. ;-)

* First off, I forgot this the week before......

Freebie samples of toothpaste and mouthwash from my dental cleaning. yay.

* I found money!

Saturday October 3rd I found this dime at Rite-Aid.

The next day I went to get an Rx at Rite-Aid and found this penny in the pharmacy area.

The AS time(after surgery time)week, I got skunked and found no money from the 4th until now. 8-(

Of course I didn't leave the house for most of that time either.

Found change this post..... .11¢
Found change this year so far...$49.25

*  I also found this in the parking lot at Weis(PMITA)Markets on the 2nd.  It was there when I went inside and I told myself if nobody takes it or runs it over by the time I go back to my car, I'm picking it up(using a wipe of course).

It's a very nice quality ballpoint retractable pen with he Subaru logo on it.  It looked brand new.

* Not much grocery shopping my first week home.  Hubs ran out to Weis for instant mashed potatoes and bananas and got this at the register.....

$2 off your next shopping order from Nature Valley.  Umm, I haven't bought anything Nature Valley at Weis in months if not a year but ok! lolz
It has since been used on more bananas. ;-)

* I brought home some deals from Rite-Aid.....

The Nivea stuff was 2 sales cycles ago that I hadn't gotten around to mentioning.  Got $4 BC wyspent $15 plus I used ManuQs and got $4 back on Ibotta for the shave gels.

I got the free Crest/Oral-B stuff(chose a toothbrush and dental floss)using Qs and getting BC back on Sunday Oct. 4th.  I only did it on one card because Hello! Hospital so I didn't go back to R-A that week to max the deal out.

On Thursday I drove myself to Rite-Aid(first trip since surgery)and did the GenTeal drops on son's card(used $3.24 on a gift card and rolled all his Bonus Cash)and got $18 back in new BC.
On my card I did the Carefree Deal, spent $4.34 in BC after 20% Wellness Discount and $3/2 ManuQ and got $4 in Ibotta rebates.
On daughter's card I got the 2 x tampons, paid $4.58 in BC after 20% Wellness Discount and $5.00 in Qs($3/1 L2CQ, $2/1 ManuQ)and earned $8 in Ibotta rebates.
I also earned a $1 Ibotta Bonus called "Edgewell" because both the Playtex and the Carefree qualified for that.
So I rolled and convert BC.

I also got this at Weis(PMITA)Markets while I was out that day.......

Weis currently has a "spend $15/Get $5 off instantly" on some Dove items.
These cost $7.69 each so $15.38, I got $5 off so $10.38.  I used 2 x $2/1 Dove men's body wash IPQs so I paid $6.38 OOP.  Then I got $4 back on Ibotta(2 x $2 Dove men's body wash)so these ended up costing me $1.19 each.  Not bad.

* I missed out on a $10 and a $5 Ibotta Bonus while I was incapacitated so when another $5 Weekend Warrior Bonus popped up on Thursday I had Hubs take me to Walmart on Friday......

The Oikos drink and the Core bar were free after rebates.
The Schar cookies were a .36¢ moneymaker.
The Danimals probiotic drinks would have been free had I activated the SavingStar rebate before it disappeared(boo)but I need them and they were only .88¢ after Q and Ibotta.
I had a $4/1 Bella dog food Q so after that and $1.50 rebate that was only .245¢ for each container.
Renuzits were $1.91 total, the Keebler crackers were $1.18, the Ultra Powerade was .70¢ and the 2 reg. Powerades were .52¢ each.
I happened to see those seasonal Starbucks coffee bags(Pecan and Maple flavor)on a clearance shelf for $3.15.  I found an Ibotta rebate for $1.25 a bag on my app so at $1.90 per bag they were coming home with me! (They will probably find their way into Xmas stockings.)
Ex-College Boy came over for dinner last night so 3 of the drinks and the packs of cookies are gone already.

I used my last $5 Walmart gift card on this so it came to $22.38 OOP and I earned $23.92 on Ibotta between the regular rebates, $5 WW Bonus and a .50¢ Powerade Bonus.
I wanted to get the free Star Wars cereal and the free Fake Beef patties but my store had neither.  Even so I did ok.

Keep on Keepin' on being Frugal my Friends.
Tell us about your wins lately.

Stuff Lately

Just some random stuff going on to talk about today......

* We finally were able to ditch our landline phone bill(and the separate long distance access bill too).
We changed cell phone providers since ours had a black hole of no service here(so weird).  We got the first bill(ACK!)but there's start-up costs on that one.  The first "real" bill, this month, came in at $76.02.  It will vary slightly every month because(I don't know if this is just a state thing in PA or nationwide)but the cell company can change certain taxes and fees monthly.  It's such a racket though.

So far we are VERY pleased since the old carrier(that was a black hole of no service in our town)was $20 MORE a month for the same crappier service, plus we were paying for a landline(approx. $26 per mo.)and long distance service for that landline(approx. $9-$10 per mo.)too.  That added up to $132 every freaking month!!  So we are paying a little more than HALF that now.  8-)))))))

The best part about all this is no telemarketers ringing the landline all freaking day long annoying me.  I keep looking at the place in the kitchen where the phone was, looking for the blinking light on the answering machine which is no longer there.

*  I found something I liked.........

Got this on clearance last Fall.  It's a pecan pie granola and it's lovely in Greek yogurt.
Unfortunately I can't find it any longer as it is seasonal. *sad face*

* I get folks emailing me every now and again to ask if I want them to write guest posts for my blog or if they can put a link(advertise something they are selling)on my blog.  Some times these requests make no sense.
Recently someone wanted to hook up with me because of a blog post they saw that I wrote.  Her email title was, "Love your article about baby care!(And a proposal)"
This person/entity has a site that sells baby/child stuff and they wanted me to add their link to that "baby care" article I wrote and they would share that post with their social media followers to get me exposure and help my blog, of course. They also wrote an article about crying babies that they thought my visitors might appreciate and it would add value to my "amazing article"(their words not mine).
Yeah.
The blog post of mine they decided that I would be a good fit with them is one from Aug. of 2009(2009!)I wrote about how to score Johnson & Johnson baby products cheaply at Rite-Aid that particular week.
LOLZ

*  The Anonymous trolls seem to be out in force the last few weeks.  They just don't get that I delete ALL anonymous comments that no one is willing to sign their name to.
Haters gonna hate, whatcha gonna do?  Not post their verbal diarrhea, that's what!
Too bad my trolls aren't this adorable..... ;-)

* Another recent head scratching email I got was from an Ancestry dotcom member....someone I have no clue who it is.
Here's the entire message they wrote to me........"Who is this?"

W.T.F!
It's mind numbing sometimes how many people out there are left walking around unsupervised in life who shouldn't be.

* If you requested a copy of that book I read in January that I offered, it might be awhile before I get around to mailing them out.  I've got to find appropriate packaging materials to send them media mail because I am not paying for Priority rates on those and I am not paying for boxes either.  I'm a nice person but I'm frugal and I'm not THAT nice! ;-)

*  After Thursday's trip to Weis(PMITA)Markets and taking this photo of the paper goods aisle.........

I actually went back on Friday(well I had to get the freebie and a couple of one day only specials).  I peeked down that aisle and they had a bit of tp this time as the truck had come in and they had restocked the shelves.  The store here was nuts with panicky folks with overflowing carts of stuff.  I have been calling our Weis the "Zombie Apocalypse" store.
And they were buying the weirdest combinations of stuff in the carts I looked at.
One couple had 6 huge bags of potato chips, 8 gallon jugs of water, 6 12-packs of Diet Coke(and no, it wasn't Kim hehehe)and 8 jars of Heinz gravy.  ???  I almost asked them "why so much gravy?", because I have no filter. lolz

But the "Zombie Apocalypse" Weis was nothing compared to the Weis in the town West of here I went to which will now be known as the "Armageddon Weis".
First there were no shopping carts.  You had to follow someone out of the store, wait for them to unload their cart so you could take it into the store.

Not only was the paper goods aisle totally empty but the cleaning products aisle, the dairy/eggs case, people were hovering at the meat case(I think they were waiting for Corned Beef Briskets to be put out?) and even the self check-outs had lines 5 deep of folks waiting to pay(pus all the reg check-outs had even longer lines).  (Note-almost EVERYBODY in this area refuses to use self check-outs unless forced.  We have high percentage of elderly here who are set in their ways/won't change and/or believe that if they use a self check-out even once, folks will lose their jobs in that store.)

As I was walking back too my car I passed a woman unloading her groceries into her trunk.  I stopped and said, "That was so insane in there I think we all need to take a trip next door to the liquor store to recover."  She agreed and we both had a good laugh over it. ;-)

I tried to keep things light by handing out coupons from my pouch if  I saw someone had something in their cart to buy that I had a coupon for while I was in line.

*  And last month's Giveaway winner had Amazon send me a nice surprise gift........

A pack of dog butt fridge magnets. lololz
Now that I have them I don't know how I ever got along without them!
Nobody ever sends me anything...really.  Maybe it's because I'm such a despicable person like the trolls keep telling me. 8-P

So THANK YOU Jen/Dave, I AM enjoying some dog butts! *snort*

Ok, back to wiping stuff down(Ex-CB still has to go to work and he might bring germs home with him to us....musician types aren't known for being very tidy now are they?).

What's everyone else up to this weekend?

Frugal Friday.....the March 13th Edition

Oh Goody!
Friday the 13th so let's recount this past week's frugal wins to scare off the evil spirits(and the online trolls that seem to be virulent lately) ;-)

Here's a photo I snapped yesterday of the paper goods aisle at my local Weis(PMITA)Markets.............
Just a few rolls of paper towels and down at the end some facial tissue.  I can't believe there was facial tissue left since it's just like TP just a little more expensive.

Onward to the frugalness..........

*  I got the Weis Friday Freebie last Friday.........

A box of Weis brand Hamburger Helper.
We don't care for this but the food bank likes to get it so off it goes in my next load to them.

* Hubs and I used a gift certificate won at the Church auction last Fall for a new BBQ joint in town for dinner on Tuesday.  We split a beef brisket dinner and after applying the gift cert. it cost us $3.18 OOP for dinner.

*  I found money!

A penny next to my favorite self-check out machine at Weis on Friday.

I did a load of laundry and found all this in the washer afterwards.  Sluggy's house rule, "I do the laundry and I keep the change you leave in your pockets", makes me .37¢ richer. tee hee

My trip to Rite-Aid garnered me .12¢ on Tuesday.  Each coin was found at different locations in the store.

On Thursday I found a nickel by the ATM at Rite-Aid when I went to pick up an Rx..........

Don't know why there since ATMs only give bills back, not change. lol

Then at Weis(PMITA)Markets later that day I found this..........

a dime right near the door where you walk in, under a display of Wonderful Pistachios.

It was a great week for finding change here!

Total Found Money this week...... .65¢
Total Money for the Year so far....$43.81

*  I earned $12.45 total in Ibotta rebates this week.

*  The deals I got at Rite-Aid.......

Total spent in Bonus Cash $16.33
Total earned back in BC $26.50 and in Ibotta Rebates $2.00 back as well.

My Weis deals above cost $24.44 OOP
I earned back $3.70 in Ibotta rebates on all this.

*  Hubs and I went to Bob Evans for lunch on Wednesday, the last day the $X off Q I had was good before expiring.  I got my usual big salad but this time Hubs, true to form did NOT get a salad too.  He opted for a meatloaf dinner this time.

That's about it for me this week.

What frugal wins did ya'll have?

Clearance Finds at Weis(PMITA)Markets Lately

Weis is in clearance mode lately, getting rid of products and reducing them to 50%.
I got a few goodies this past week.........

4 x Knorr's Pasta Selects $1 per pack=$4.00

The Knorr sides are for Hubs, the mac and cheese for EX-CB and the Paw Patrol cans and 2 of the Pasta Roni boxes will go to the food bank so $2 of what I spent above won't come out of my food budget but the other $10.31 will.
I will confess the throwback Chef Boyardee cans are for me.  I still like Beefaroni sometimes and this reminds me of a cherished piece of my childhood. ;-)

Have any of y'all found any good clearance buys at Weis lately?

Weis Deals This Week

Here are some deals I picked up at Weis last Friday.........

The regular Eggland's Best eggs were on sale for $1.87 this past week.  I used a .50¢/1 ManuQ that doubled to $1 and paid .87¢ for that dozen.
The cage-free EB eggs were a Friday only deal for BOGOFree.  At Weis(PMITA)Markets if you buy just one on a BOGO you pay half price.
I used another .50¢/1 ManuQ that doubled to $1 and paid .99¢ for those eggs.

I also got 6 cans of soup for .49¢ per can(a Friday only special), 4 large cans of tomatoes on sale that week for $1 per can and used a .80¢/4 ManuQ that doubled to $1.60 off making each can .60¢.
I bought 3 more cup o' noodles(new flavor)and paid $3($1 per cup)then made $3.07 back on Ibotta(3 x .97¢ cup o noodles + .10¢ for buying anything.
The weekend warrior and midweek bonuses in my gallery at Ibotta this past weekend/week were only for $1 wybought 12 offers so I didn't even try this week. lolz

I spent a total of $12.88 last Friday at Weis(and earned $3.07 in rebates).

I went back to Weis on Wednesday looking for discount meat stickers(it's the best day at my store to find them)and found all this.........

2 x Weis 12 pack of "gourmet" meatballs on sale for $5 wyb2=$10.00
1 x thin sliced top round steak for braciole on sale=$7.31
1 x Perdue whole roaster chicken in cooking bag=$11.00(ouch!)

The meatballs were $6 off(1 x $2 off sticker on one pack and 2 x $2 off sticker on the other pack)so $2 per pack after discounts/sale.
The top steak had a $3 off sticker on it so $4.31 for 1.22 lbs. or $3.53 per lb.(that's less than they charge usually for ground beef here at Weis).
The Perdue roaster had a $3 off sticker on it PLUS I had a $2/1 IPQ for that so I paid $6 for the oven ready chicken.
The chicken and meatballs went directly into the freezer and I'll marinated the steak today and serve it as cheese steak sammies tonight with a salad for dinner. ;-)

I also had tp and paper towel Qs expiring so I used those..........

2 x Scott towels on sale $6=$12.00
2 x Cottonelle tp reg. price=$16.78

I used 2 x .75¢/1 Scott pt IPQs which doubled to $1.50 each making the towels $4.50.
I also had a $2/2 Scott digital Q on my card and that came off too! making the final price on the towels $3.50 per pack.  8-)

I used 2 x .55¢/1 Cottonelle IPQs which doubled to $1.10 each making the tp $7.29
I also had a $2/1 Cottonelle digital Q on my card too that came off making the tp $6.29 per pack.
And I had a $1 Cottonelle Ibotta rebate so I got another $2 back in rebates so in the end the tp was $5.29 each.
I totally was not expecting those digital Qs to come off but I'm glad they did. ;-)

And with this talk about COVID-19 heading toward a pandemic situation it's no time to let the paper products stock get low.  Just sayin'.

I also lucked into this deal in the produce department.........

2 x 10 lb. sacks of potatoes for .99¢ per bag.  Reg. price around here for 10 lb. bags of regular white taters is anywhere from $3.99-$4.99.
An employee was just putting them out while I was walking by so I snagged 2.  Now I just have to come up with ideas on how to use them as we aren't big tater fans usually. ;-)
I'll make chowder, bake some, make potatoes au gratin from scratch and maybe make Ex-CB some hash browns and do a Breakfast for Dinner one night.

I also found all this in the baby department on clearance...........

I was able to use $2.75 in IPQs as well on the Gerber items besides the 50% off price.  I am not counting this in my February food budget though and it will be going to the local food bank sometime in March but I wanted to mention it in case anyone out there shops at Weis and wants to look out for these deals in the baby food section.

I am now over my $400 monthly food budget for February by $6.39 so I guess I'll stop going to the store this month now except for this Friday's freebie at Weis(PMITA)Markets. lolz
