Frugal Friday......the March 20th Edition

Well staying home more means less frugality of the "out and about" variety but staying home lends itself to another type of frugality.  It's hard to spend money(except online)if you stay home, right?

This virus is forcing a level of frugalness on us all which can't be a bad thing. ;-)

* I got the Freebie at Weis(PMITA)Markets last Friday............

A bag of frozen French fries.  I nabbed this photo from online since I don't feel like digging my bag out of the chest freezer. lolz
I just got word that Friday Freebies are suspended until further notice.....Weis has instituted "Marshall Law" of sorts as they try to keep the store shelves stocked.  No doubling coupons, no returns and strict limits on items.
Madness I say, Madness!! ;-)

* I found money!

A dime and a penny both found at Weis on Friday.  The dime was over by an end cap near the laundry detergent aisle and the penny by my favorite self-checkout.

These 2 dimes and 1 penny were found at Rite-Aid on Sunday......one dime by the register up front, a penny down an aisle and then another dime under the candy rack up front by the register when I was leaving the store.

After Rite-Aid I went to Weis(PMITA)Markets and it was more crowded than I have ever seen it.
Panic buying must mean more folks not paying attention to their change because I found 4 pennies at various places in the store--1 by the CS desk, 2 by the self-checkouts and 1 penny at the end of the regular checkouts on the way out of the store.

Then on Wednesday I found this dime at Rite-Aid when I went to pick up an Rx.  It was standing on it's end under the shelf where the weekly ads are kept, beckoning to me.

Please note-since last week I've kept an antibacterial wipe in my pocket and I use that to pick up any found change.  All change gets a thorough washing/scrubbing with soap and water once I get it home.  No point in not taking precautions.  ;-)

Found Money This Week...... .46¢
Found Money This Year so far....$44.27

*  I earned $1.00 on SavingStar and $11.10 on Ibotta in the last week.

*  This finally arrived last week too............

My P and G $15 debit card from the December Rebate Period.
yay me.
I am still waiting on my February Rite-Aid $20 Debit Card.

*  Gas has dropped here dramatically.  The best deal since I have a Sunoco card was there.  It's $2.25 but I get a .05¢ discount so $2.20 per gallon.  That's better than the Turkey Hill($2.23)and Weis($2.21 if I didn't use my Weis points there).  Gas was $2.69 at Sunoco just 2 weeks ago so I am loving this .49¢ per gallon discount.

*  I got some deals since last Friday which I blogged about already............
At Weis--

Various transactions at Rite-Aid--

*  There was no lunch out this week and everyone should know why. All restaurants are closed here except for a few that are doing take-out.  One of our two Chinese take-out places has also closed.  If you can afford to buy a gift certificate or get take-out from your local restaurants please support them.  They are hurting for business right now.  ;-)

*  I had to go to Weis on Wednesday but I spent as little time there as possible(along with my Lysol wipes.....the cart wipes thingy at the entrance was empty so I am glad I had wipes on me!).

This was the beer/wine cafe area by the ready to eat foods and salad bar......all the tables and chairs were gone so no one could eat there.

My asparagus rang up $3.99 lb. instead of the ad/posted price of .99¢ lb.  So I did have to walk back through the store and take a photo of the sign to get my money back.  I did hesitate because of this health stuff but the frugal force was stronger(and I didn't encounter any people on this walk through the produce section).  If it had only been a few cents I might have let it go but it was $3.13!

*  I got a temp. Census Bureau job but they have suspended operations until April 1st so we'll see then how this plays out. It pays $17 hr. + .57¢ mileage here so not bad. The door-to-door enumerator jobs may go away totally or just get pushed back into this Summer thought or whenever the pandemic ends.  If they want someone to schlep around in the Summer heat, I am not that gal. lolz

*  And finally I am sooo glad I don't live in a tiny house at this point in time.  If so, I would be in prison for murdering either Hubs and/or Ex-College Box.
I thought I had misplaced my last nerve but Wait!.....they found it!!! 8-P

That's it for this week.

And a reminder.............

Any frugal wins in your life this past week?

Frugal Friday.....the March 13th Edition

Oh Goody!
Friday the 13th so let's recount this past week's frugal wins to scare off the evil spirits(and the online trolls that seem to be virulent lately) ;-)

Here's a photo I snapped yesterday of the paper goods aisle at my local Weis(PMITA)Markets.............
Just a few rolls of paper towels and down at the end some facial tissue.  I can't believe there was facial tissue left since it's just like TP just a little more expensive.

Onward to the frugalness..........

*  I got the Weis Friday Freebie last Friday.........

A box of Weis brand Hamburger Helper.
We don't care for this but the food bank likes to get it so off it goes in my next load to them.

* Hubs and I used a gift certificate won at the Church auction last Fall for a new BBQ joint in town for dinner on Tuesday.  We split a beef brisket dinner and after applying the gift cert. it cost us $3.18 OOP for dinner.

*  I found money!

A penny next to my favorite self-check out machine at Weis on Friday.

I did a load of laundry and found all this in the washer afterwards.  Sluggy's house rule, "I do the laundry and I keep the change you leave in your pockets", makes me .37¢ richer. tee hee

My trip to Rite-Aid garnered me .12¢ on Tuesday.  Each coin was found at different locations in the store.

On Thursday I found a nickel by the ATM at Rite-Aid when I went to pick up an Rx..........

Don't know why there since ATMs only give bills back, not change. lol

Then at Weis(PMITA)Markets later that day I found this..........

a dime right near the door where you walk in, under a display of Wonderful Pistachios.

It was a great week for finding change here!

Total Found Money this week...... .65¢
Total Money for the Year so far....$43.81

*  I earned $12.45 total in Ibotta rebates this week.

*  The deals I got at Rite-Aid.......

Total spent in Bonus Cash $16.33
Total earned back in BC $26.50 and in Ibotta Rebates $2.00 back as well.

My Weis deals above cost $24.44 OOP
I earned back $3.70 in Ibotta rebates on all this.

*  Hubs and I went to Bob Evans for lunch on Wednesday, the last day the $X off Q I had was good before expiring.  I got my usual big salad but this time Hubs, true to form did NOT get a salad too.  He opted for a meatloaf dinner this time.

That's about it for me this week.

What frugal wins did ya'll have?

Frugal Friday.....the February 7th Edition

A quick look at what frugal things occurred in Sluggy's world this past week........

*  I earned .20¢ on Ibotta(2 x .10¢ for buying any item).  It's sort of hard to earn rebates when you aren't buying much. lolz

*  I got last Friday's Weis Freebie.......
Yet again, it was a 2 liter bottle of Weis soda.  This time I got a photo before Ex-College Boy polished it off. ;-)

*  I hit the Bread Outlet for 3 loaves of bread(really 1 loaf and 2 bags of hamburger rolls)this past week. $4 out the door for $12+ worth of premium bread products.

*  My best "deals" at Weis last week were these items.....

Fantastic Friday Hormel chili was .99¢ per can if you bought at least 3 cans at a time.  No coupons for it and I got the last 2 cans of regular chili so had to buy a turkey one.
The other good deal was a jar of clearance type pickles for $1.50.  I also have a .50¢/1 Weis digital Q for it on my card and it doubled to $1 off, making the pickles .50¢ OOP.

*  I sold something on eBay......

2 bottles of an old, discontinued Nexxus shampoo from my stash.  I got these from Rite-Aid(of course!lol)a few years ago so I didn't pay anything for them really.  A nice little profit on this sale. ;-)

*  I got some stuff at Rite-Aid........

And earned a $20 prepaid Visa card to boot..........

And there were some free Qs and samples on Wellness Wednesday as well........

*  I found money.....and whoah doggy was this a GOOD week for that!!!

First off there was this..........

A penny and a dime near the self-checkout machine I used at Weis last Friday.

On Tuesday Hubs and I went to Walmart to look for inexpensive new phone cases(for our new phones) and to pick up almond milk and cheese.  As we approached a vacant self-checkout I saw this hanging out of the machine and nobody was at the machine........

Two $20 bills hanging from the bill chute!!!

There was nobody there so we looked around to see if we could figure out if someone walking away from the self-checkout corral might be the owner.
We agreed that if we turned it into Customer Service it would just 'disappear' into someone's pocket(not the rightful owners)because well, it's Walmart.  So we rang our items out exceedingly slowly in hopes whomever left the cash would realize it and return to find it.  We must have spent 20 minutes ringing up our 6 items(mostly standing there not ringing things up to stretch out our time at the machine)but no one came back.
So tell me, what would you have done?  And what should I do with this windfall?......keep it?....use it for a food bank donation or some other charity?....apply it to our food budget?....or ?
Even if I don't keep it, this still COUNTS in my Found Money Tally.....ya hear me KIM?!? hehehe

Then on Wednesday at Rite-Aid I found this(though after Tuesday's find, it seems quite anti-climatic lol)......

A penny under the candy racks at the register.  That blur in the background is Dixie thinking I have something she can eat so she's being quite attentive to what I am doing here. lolz

Total found money for the week........$40.12
Total found money for the year.......$42.42

That's about all to report in on, except I did find something else this week or rather Ex-College Boy brought us home some sickness.
Yay me!
All three of us have whatever it is.
I don't think it's the flu(I got a shot in Dec.)but a run of the mill cold with sinus and chest gunk.
Good time folks, good times.....

So I may not be posting for a couple days/over the weekend.  I'll be on a tea, soup, vitamin C and cough drop diet until further notice and blowing through our stockpile of Kleenex(literally-blowing!). ;-)
If any of y'all are ill, I commiserate with ya and as for the rest of y'all who are not sick, stay away from those of us who are! hehe

Now tell us all the frugal stuff that happened in your world this past week too!

Frugal Friday......the October 11th Edition--On Sunday

Here's the frugaliciousness that went on this past week in Sluggy's World.......

*  I went to Weis a week ago this past Friday............

The tissues were the Friday Freebie that week.  Of course I picked out a purple box. lol

The Celentano items were BOGOFree and I used a Q as well.
The Asian items were all on 50% clearance as was the Mrs. Renfroe's salsa.

* On Saturday Hubs and I attended the annual church auction we go to each year near our house.

We got lots of restaurant, gas and car services, and a grocery store gift cards/certificates to places we frequent/spend money anyway.  We also won a gift card to a new to us pub we wanted to try.
We don't bid on many "things" anymore but Hubs did win a metric ratchet set as he only has the US type.  I won a basket of home canned relishes/jellies and a Dr. Scholl's foot spa thing(got it dirt cheap).
I don't know how much we saved on the reg. retail of these gift cards/things but I'll figure that out when I get home.
We kept the spending on this under $250 too.  I budgeted $300 so that was a win in and of itself.

*  I found money!

This penny was found under the Weis self-checkout machine I used on Friday.

And this penny was found in Rite-Aid when I went to pick-up an Rx.

This is my new to me computer bag.  Hubs had 2 of his old computer bags from work in the donate pile.  I asked Ex-CB if he could use one so he took the nicer one.  I also needed a better computer bag so I took this one that was left.
When I got to Ocean City and started unpacking my machine I heard a jingling noise in the pocket.

This .68¢ in change was in that pocket.  Hubs was going to unknowingly throw away this money!
It's a good thing I rescued that bag and this cash, right?

It also put me .68¢ ahead in the Found Money competition with Kim while in OC.
Kim was fit to be tied! lolz

I didn't find any more money until the end of our time in OC.  After Sissie went home Kim and I joined forces and had 'fun our way" and ended up splitting $1.64 in found change on Wednesday. 8-)))

Also on Wednesday I found 1¢ at Ollie's(the shiny one)and another 1¢ on the wooden walkway over the dune to the beach on Assateague Island(the sand encrusted one).
All together I am $1.54 richer for the week. ;-)

*  I got a good deal on the hotel room in Ocean City.  October is the off season but it's still really warm(I think it hit 80 degrees one day while we were there), the rates are about 1/4 of what they charge for an oceanfront balcony room and best of all, NO tourists!!!  You would know what a blessing this is if you have ever been to OC during the high season. lolz

                                The view from our balcony.

The room was a suite with a sofa bed, chair and tv in the sitting area and had a full kitchen.  We brought some groceries and hit a grocery store for more food so we didn't have to pay the outrageous OC prices at restaurants there(unless we wanted to).  The hotel had an indoor pool and a hot tub which we availed ourselves of most nights.
And we split the cost of the room 3 ways so it was quite affordable for everyone.

*  We hit the outlets.
Hubs and Ex-CB both wanted me to get them some shoes if I found good deals.  I found Hubs some Converse but they only had one pair in his size and they were running a BOGO50% sale there.

So I was forced to buy myself these awesome Crocs at that store and they were 50% off. ;-)

*  While stopping at Mickey D's to get Kim a Diet Coke on Wednesday I spied an old newspaper in an abandoned high chair in the dining room there.

There was a coupon insert in the bowels of that paper.  I took the insert since no one was there and the newspaper was abandoned.
A free Q insert?
Yes, please!

*  I received $1(for the Celentano items)in my Ibotta account last week.

*  I sold 2 items on eBay and shipped them out(well Hubs shipped one out for me)before going to OC.

This out of production afghan throw from the late 1990's.....I accepted an offer of $30 on it.

And this pair of new in the box, long discontinued style skater shoes, I listed at $125 and accepted an offer of $100 on.

Back in 2009 I hit a really good clearance sale on 6pm dotcom and bought Ex-College Boy 5 pairs of this color/style skate shoe in various sizes as his feet were still growing(as well as the rest of him).
When I dug out his old closet I found this pair that he never wore(I guess he got tired of this style/color after awhile lol)so I reclaimed them and put them on eBay.  This is a high end skate shoe company, the style was discontinued/retired years ago and they had been endorsed by an old skating pro so I knew I could sell them and make a few dollars.
The best part was I had only paid $10 for them on clearance so $100 was a really nice profit and one more thing outta my house!! 8-)))

That's all from here for the week.

What frugal wins did y'all have this past week?
Let us know!

Sluggy
