Some Days It Doesn't Pay to Get Out of Bed

Yesterday was a Very Bad, No Good Day for me, just like in that book about Alexander my kids read when they were young.

It began with a phone call from my dr.'s office.  He won't be in for my June appointment.  And come to find out, he is leaving this medical group/system.

I really like my doctor.  He is the first one I've found that I have confidence in and get along with and actually makes me look forward to doing the right things for myself medically.
He "gets me".

50+ years to find the right doctor for me is a very long time and I am so not looking forward to finding a new doc that fits with me.
The practice punted me over to another doctor, another Osteopathic doc at least.  The guy looks young enough to be my grandson.  I have clothes older than this guy!!

I just wanted to sit down and cry over this turn of events......

I am a complicated bundle of medical conditions and needs.  I still have no help for my Hidradenitis Suppurativa though I do finally have an appointment at an HS clinic in late July(that was the soonest I could get an appt. when I called in late Feb.).  Did I mention that this clinic is 2 hours away?  This won't be fun to get to when the weather turns bad again. sigh.

Add in all these new strange symptoms I've developed when I turned 60 and my outlook moving forward just gets me down.
It's true, when you turn 60, if something isn't already wrong with you, cheer up! because a whole new basket of crap will get dumped in your lap. *snort*

Then ex-College Boy decided to leave his job.  He can't handle the stress of all the selling he's forced to do there(with his anxiety condition)plus he's been there just shy of a year and they STILL haven't trained him in the job he has been told to do.  Is this normal now in the business world?  Hire someone and don't train them and expect those hired to handle a job they haven't been trained to do w/no supervision or support?  It started to get really bad once the company he works for got bought out by another company.  Frankly after hearing what all has gone on I am amazed he's lasted this long!

So now that the Daughter is graduating and leaving in one month(yay!)we now have ECB here indefinitely when we thought he'd be flying the coop and getting his own place in a couple of months and until he finds something else he's back on our health insurance.  At least he got a nice tax refund so he can financially tread water and not take the first shitty job he finds.

And to add insult to injury, my favorite bbq joint down in VA closed down last Saturday for good.
I know that's no biggie but still........just something else to make my outlook even worse.

And that current champ on Jeopardy is pissing me off too!  I just want someone to wipe that fake smile off his face and beat his ass!!! ;-)

Add in all the political crap and world news and I feel like the world is piling on me.

So excuse me I can't be Big 'Ol Mary Sunshine right now.
I may take a couple of days off from blogging to get my head back on straight.

Anybody else feeling low about things going on in their life too?  Let's commiserate. Let us all know what's buggy you!

Y'all play nice while I'm gone.

Sluggy

  1. That is exactly how my company is run...I kinda felt like I wasn't properly trained and had to figure things out on my own. Ask questions, people get annoyed. But don't you dare make a mistake. It's a definite communication issue and it shows up repeatedly in different ways. Le sigh.

Also, I feel like I'm getting sick, whatever crud my dad has. The local hockey team is killing me, the weather is too up and down, my heart aches for Notre Dame and I've hit a brick wall with my weight loss. Getting sick isn't going to help whatsoever. In fact I just ordered a terrible lunch, plan on picking it up and laying about the house the rest of the day :(

I hope things get better for you, dear Sluggy. Maybe Dr. Doogie Howser will be a super genius and figure out a good treatment for you. And I don't like Jeopardy guy either

  2. Thanks for letting me know what I have to look forward to when I turn 60 - in about 2 years - LOL (not really though). One good thing about ECB quitting his job is that other college kids are graduating and companies are recruiting. That's another bag, because the recruiting process seems random too. My soon to be ex-college girl is keeping me updated on all of the shenanigans - including one recruiter asking if she was married or single - really - I thought everyone knew better than that. Fingers crossed, she gets hired by a decent company shortly. Everybody is allowed to feel crummy a few days a year - just don't let it drag on. I had to make an appointment with a specialist and it took me 5 months to get in for an appointment - and to think I had pain for that 5 months (I have osteoarthritis in my knees - but had to see a rheumatoid arthritis Dr to get my steriod shot - and every RA doctor in my city and the next were booked - except one who had bad ratings - (and I skipped). That shot made a lot of difference - no pain - so, I am hoping your specialist will get you the treatment you need. Hope you find a new favorite BBQ place and there you go - atleast your daughter hasn't cancelled her plans to fly.

  3. I am so sorry you have the blues - but understandable. The only thing about your doctor being young is sometimes younger doctors are more open to new treatments. Our old dentist retired (he was super nice but old school) and our new dentist is very young and bought out the practise - he is way further ahead in modern dentistry - important when hubby has a mouth condition that the last dentist just poopood and then he went to a specialist and they finally diagnosed him (mouth psoriasis - very weird but real). Your son will find his way, he is just fortunate he is in a position to quit that job. Usually when a company is bought out it is never good for those employees who were there before the buyout - they don't care about what was promised. As for the political scene - don't let it get you down (no matter where you stand), I find turning the tv off is the best thing to do for my mental health. Hugs Sluggy

  4. Gee Slugs sorry about the doc thing, mine is retiring soon and I am in the same boat. Can't find a new one that is any good. My specialist is great, but just a GP harder than hell. I am glad exCB quit that nasty job. I hate it when they force people to sell at and extreme level. Give him some time to recover. IS our donut shop fixed? Do I need to come out there and fix you?

  5. Sorry for everything you're going through, but we love watching the guy on Jeopardy! I definitely think he's "different", but he's quick, he knows his stuff, and you can't hear him clicking (remember that lady a few weeks back??). Does this count as an entry?

  6. That happened with my DH's dr when he first started having muscle problems. He was probably the dr that would have figured out what is wrong with DH, but he up and moved to a different state. My DD's new job is kind of like that. She got hired for a position/dept and the first week they transferred her to a different dept (same type of job, though). She had trouble with feeling like no one was training her too.

  7. whoah this blog is magnificent i love studying your articles.
Stay up the great work! You already know, a lot of individuals are looking round for
this info, you can aid them greatly.

  8. I totally understand about your son's job. The same thing has been happening for the last couple of years at the place that I work. When I started (10+ years ago), I was trained in by a manager on how to help the customers, how to do the back room tasks and we had classes that you had to take on the computer software and the policies. Now the new people are thrown out to help the customers on the second day that they are working at our location with zero training and no one is assigned to train them in. It is a joke. Maybe your readers should do something different and send you a fun give away box to brighten your day!

  9. I HATE THOSE DAYS!!!! My GYN moved on to head labor and delivery - yea, like I need her for THAT at my age....I HATE, HATE, HATE, finding a new GYN so I'm with ya!

I still have 2 kids at home....one is moving to Washington on May 1st...but leaving her 3 cats. Other one.....here until we die?????

    I don't watch Jeopardy - it makes me feel stupid.....feel better :)

  10. We're PCSing in 2 months. Eek! I've been sick since the holidays so the house isn't fit for a dog let alone movers and a real estate agent. We've been lucky to stay in one place for 10 years but that means 10 years of crap to shovel. 2 months...

    Hope you're feeling better soon!

  11. Is your doctor going somewhere else that you might be able to follow? Maybe the young guy will be able to help you. Scare him a little if need be.

What's bugging me? My allergies, my crazy neighbor.

  12. Hi Sluggy this is Chris. I am sorry about all the "stuff" going on over your way. Hang in there. <3

  13. Concrete dust blew in my eyes when I walking during lunch. For some unknown reason sidewalks are being cut up all over town.

It’s been up to 80 degrees here and I’m stuck by a cold coworker. He thinks 80 degree wind from an open window is “freezing.” So I’m sweating through my underwear on a regular basis.

  14. Sorry life is giving you troubles. I need a new primary dr since I don’t feel like driving in heavy traffic for an hour but have procrastinated. I got lucky with my cancer doctors and like them. Adult children can be a pain.

  15. I can so relate to several of your woes. My doctor left his practice a year ago. The doc they assigned to me literally can't even write a simple letter (foreign born?). My bbq place didn't close, but the place where I buy my family linguica for the holidays burned down and won't reopen. My son and grandson have lived with me for literally years. I just returned from the vet with one of my dogs; found out he's suffering from allergies, to the tune of almost $300. I'm also sick of the political BS. Here's where we differ, though: I like the Jeopardy guy and think he's kinda cute. :) Best wishes to you for a more cheerful future.

  17. I know how you're feeling. Some days just don't go well. But tomorrow things may get better. I am 68 years old, have had breast cancer, and bilateral total knee replacements and a year and half ago we retired to another state. New PCP after leaving a female doc I loved. Turns out I love my new one just as much! New GYN ~ gee I like him too. Oncologist ~ this one is tricky, but I am getting to like him too. Hard to leave drs after having established a great rapport with them and having to start over, but give it a chance. All the best. Teddie

  18. Just wanted to comment to commiserate on current Jeopardy jackass. I DVR the show to be able to fast forward thru all the commercials. I hate this "professional winning guy" & his "smile". So every afternoon I google Jeopardy & can find an article saying he's won again & how much he's now up to. Then I cancel my recording of Jeopardy that day. I won't watch it again till he's gone. It's a favorite show. Sincerely hope you find a new physician you like. I just switched to a new one this year, & now I don't dread going for exams so much. You're right about things going to hell after 60!

  19. Oh Sluggy... I am suffering from some major burnout. Not just at work, but at life. That's why next Tuesday I am taking a mental health day off. Going to go hiking and just freaking chill out. And what is bugging me recently is that micromanagement is at all time high at work.

  20. Some days are just not worth waking for. Sorry about your doc misadventures. It is hard to get one that "fits"
I have been a little overwhelmed lately, but the quick trip to Nashville helped a lot.

  21. Hi Sluggy,I'm so sorry to hear that you have hidradenitis,I have suffered from it also, the outbreaks are very painful.I very rarely get an outbreak from it now but in the past have had 3 surgeries because of it.What I do now is take liquid oil of oregano,I mix it in juice because it tastes awful but it works for me when nothing else did, maybe it will for you too.

  22. I know how important it is to find a doctor that fits you, so that sucks that you had one and he's leaving. I don't blame you for being upset about it. I'm glad ECB left a job that was stressing him out. I hope he finds something better, but lately it seems that all good paying jobs come with a lot of added stress. My daughter works in a library. You think that would be a calm environment but the staff is so toxic, it's breaking her spirit. She can't wait to leave. :-(

  25. Sorry it all seems to be piling up at one time for you.

Let's see. My son's insurance company is sending him to a pain clinic in Las Vegas (We live in Reno / Sparks) so about 500 miles each way. They will pay a driver .58 a mile to take him or maybe fly him. No one seems to know and it took over 2 months to get the appt. Head up their butts! He has to take off two days from work to do it.

I am still not allowed to drive due to my heart deciding at the most inopportune times to go 130 + beats a minute and I am a space cadet when that happens. Then tired for a week after. Will get a 10 - 15 day heart monitor to wear next week. So grounded from driving since this comes on fast and I never know how long it will last.

My son lost his license and DMV makes you pay and get a paper print out which is completely worthless to cash your pay check or anything else. They could fix this by just putting your picture on the paper copy until your license comes in the mail. They just print the new license off of the files they have in their system. We are on day 9 waiting for it to come in the mail. Incompetence at it's finest.

Don't get me started on how people don't do their jobs anymore or train anyone they hire or even act like they want to be there. Guess some believe they should get paid just to show up and not worry about working. This makes it harder on those who actually do their jobs.

Well, I won't go on to health care or we will be here all day. lol.

Take care and here's to better days ahead!

  28. Sooooo....my sister called and she wanted me to look at the current champ on Jeopardy tonight...and so I did...and guess what? She also hates his smile! I almost peed myself thinking about what you had written!
Diane, my sister, actually puts a pillow in front of her face at the beginning of the show because she hates his fake smile so much! (she said he smiles mostly at the beginning)I kinda think he looks like Gomer Pyle from The Andy Griffith show...a little creepy. lol.
I too, have been feeling down lately. I kinda think it's a combo of getting older, having more aches and pains, not being able to lose weight since I can't move like I used to. I see leaves that I want to rake, weeds that I want to pull, bird feeders I want to fill, furniture I want to move around, walls I want to paint, etc.
But, in the past year, I had both knees replaced and a hip, the hip I did not expect, but was much easier to recover from than the knees.
I can no longer kneel to do things...damn! I am tall, 5' 8"ish but it now seems one leg is longer than the other so my gait is off and I kinda have to hang on to everything for balance and it plain sucks.
So, sometimes I give way to tears and drip all over my kitty, who is always up my butt...lol.
Than, I just wipe those tears off my face and do something, clean or cook or bake or grab something to read and that usually helps.
Hang in there. It does get better.
Plus, my husband retired in the last year and that drives me a little nuts too! lol.
One more thing, not sure if you have netflix, but there was a series on for 7 years (it ended in 2017) that we just found. It's called Longmire and we just love it. Longmire is a sheriff out west, current day Wyoming. Excellent show with a very handsome sheriff.

  29. We all have and it is OK to have down times. Sometimes little things like your favorite BBQ joint is the last straw. Things will get better, but until then, a little self care is in order.

  30. I’m sorry you’re feeling down! It’s hard when a doctor you like leaves. Is is possible to follow him to the new place? Understandable why ExCB quit, but now he has something on his resume at least. Fingers crossed that he finds something much better!
And hang in there - it will all be better!

  31. I'm so sorry that so many things have you down. I hope at the time I am writing this that you are better. It is really tough to lose your doctors. It has happened so many times to us and then of course all of the moves we had when we had to find new ones. It's really hard. You are right about turning older and all kinds of things rearing their ugly heads. I was starting to feel like old self and then back in the hospital last week. UGH.
