To-Do Lists for 2021.....The January Edition

Here's how my January To-Do came out......

*  Pay Bills  DONE  Everything was paid(plus 1 bill was paid ahead annually for the year)and we had a shade over $300 leftover.  Go me.

*  Read 1 Book  DONE   I read this one..........

"The Seasons of My Mother: A Memoir of Love, Family and Flowers" by Marcia Gay Harden

I've always enjoyed Ms. Harden's theatrical work so her name on the cover drew me in.  It's a heartfelt account of Harden's life growing up, her later years and career and her close connection with her mother especially.  It's told in the present looking at her past and her mother through the lens of Alzheimer's as her mother developed that condition and how it affected Marcia's life.  It was a very interesting read(as Marcia led an extraordinay life, especially as a child)and very sad at the same time.
Marcia's mother was a master of Ikebana and she used that love of traditional Japanese flower arranging to entwine the chapters of her and her mom's stories.

I highly recommend this one and it's going on my book shelf instead into the donate pile. 8-)

*  Take Down Xmas Stuff  DONE   The tree and decor was taken down after the 10th of the month.  There wasn't much to actually do as we used the small tree that was sparsely ornamented and not much decor was put up.

*  Organize and Put Away Xmas  DONE  Well except for the Xmas table runner on the buffet(done now)and the Xmas tablecloth on the dining room table(still on it)everything Xmas is put away.  I just need to move everything off the dining room table(it has become a dumping ground for new R-A purchases and a staging area as I go through and organize stuff)to get that tablecloth folded and put in the buffet drawer.  It will happen soon but I am calling this item done....99.9%. ;-)

*  Organize Pantry  FAIL  I started going through the Pantry but got distracted and never finished that item.  sigh.  This goes forward onto February's list.

*  Clean out Fridge  DONE  I really need to put this on every month's list!  I cleaned/cleared out both fridges(we have one in the garage as well for overflow)in January.  It seems to be a constant cleaning/organizing chore.  I am trying to clear some "old dogs" out of the garage fridge too in my quest to use up stuff and have been relatively successful at moving/eating older things.

*  Hold Giveaway  DONE

*  Mail Giveaway  DONE  Promptly mailed and received.

*  4 Dr. Appointments  DONE  One was a Telemedicine appointment with the Sleep Doc.  Since I got a new BiPAP machine insurance required this appointment(in order for them to pay for it)even though I've been  using a machine for 7+ years now and I sort of know how to use it. lol
But hey, I'll pay the office visit charge for this appointment over paying OOP for a new machine.

Then I had a routine check-up with my Primary Doc.  Changes some meds and we're all good there.

Also had an exam with the Ophthalmologist(eyes are the same, no changes)and new reading glasses.

Then I finally got my "annual" mammogram which was almost a year later than planned.  I usually go in Jan./Feb. but I decided to wait until Spring(better weather and less hassle)in 2020 and then Covid hit and the hospital here shut down doing mammography until Summer.  Then I had an HS procedure on my breast and couldn't get a boob smashing until that healed up.  After 1 aborted attempt in early October it got rescheduled a couple of times and I went on an antibiotic long term to get the incision finally healed.  End of January we had a successful mammo and Sluggy shows no signs of boob cancer.  Rah!

*  Roll/Spend ECBs  DONE  Last week....or so I thought.  Turns out I still have $4 in ECBs to use.  *Sluggy raises her fist to the sky and exclaims, "Curses on you CVS!!!"  More on that later as well.

*  Roll/Spend Bonus Cash  DONE  I successfully rolled/spent down lots of BC at Rite-Aid(See all the R-A posts for January).  This needs to continue into February as I hope to divest myself of BC altogether on 2 cards.

*  Celebrate my Birthday  DONE  Due to Covid nobody came to help Hubs and I celebrate my "early SS" birthday.  We did do some Birthday celebration eating(free burger out at Red Robin, Chinese take-out on my Birthday),Hubs gave me 2 gift cards and I received some Bday cards.  But other than that it was a lowkey celebration.  The big thing was Hubs made me a birthday cake from scratch(his first from scratch cake ever!).  It was yummy except he forgot to add raisins(carrot cake)but that's ok!  I just sprinkled raising on top as I don't do frosting on my carrot cake recipe as it's so rich and yummy and doesn't need frosting to perk it up. ;-)

*  Stay Warm  DONE  Well we had a good amount of snow and cold in January.  If I had a crystal ball I'd know that February was the month I'd need to put this item on my list! lolz
I've been more conscious about lowering the heat and or closing doors so we aren't heating spaces we aren't using so the electric bill wasn't too bad in January.  I've pretty much switched from iced tea to hot tea as my beverage of choice for now and I'm layering my clothes more to keep the chill off.  Too bad January was just the dress rehearsal for Staying Warm in February!

*  Eat Down the Freezer  DONE  Well we DID eat down lots of foodstuffs in the freezers but, because of some good deals I found we pretty much filled it back up in January so we ended the month a little below what we started with. lol  It's all good though as we used older things that needed using. ;-)

All in all, it was a successful for me month.  Not much going on and not much that was ambitious but I'm good with that.

How did your January turn out?

Frugal Friday 2021......the February 5th Edition

Here's our frugal wins this past week.......

*  I already posted my Rite-Aid trip......

I spent down my Bonus Cash by $7.51 on this transaction and paid nothing OOP.

*  I spent ALL my Extra Care Bucks at CVS on Thursday and purposely didn't earn any more ECBs!  With Winter heavy upon us I just can't have ECBs hanging over my head(as the CVSs are not in my town and too far to travel in bad weather)so I am now out of the CVS game. (Plus CRTs have been nonexistent on my account too.)

I got a big pack of paper towels for Hubs, a pack of CVS wipes for me, Cheez-It's for Hubs and Ex-College Boy and a Maybelline Baby Lips to put in a giveaway(or keep for myself).  I used all my ECBs plus a $10 CVS gift card I earned some time last year and paid $2.30 OOP(used some of my WAM).  Of course there was a hitch, there was a sign on the shelf that the Cheez-Its were on sale 2/$4 but they rang up $3.19 each, reg. price.  Annoying if this was old signage that wasn't taken down from a previous week and I didn't notice it on my receipt until I got home so I filled out their survey to complain about being "overcharged for the item".  My total should have been Zero OOP after Qs and ECBs so we'll see if I get a reply from them about this issue.
At any rate, I am now done with CVS for the foreseeable future. 8-)))

*  I hit the discount grocery outlet yesterday since the weather was nice and I was over near there to hit CVS and get my glasses.  No picture of the groceries since they are already put away but here is my receipt..

2.01 lbs. of chicken thighs at .79¢ lb.
3 x Nathan's hot dogs for .39¢ each (1 for Ex-CB)
1 x Shredded Carrots for .79¢
1.84 lbs. cabbage head for .49 lb.
1 bundle of fresh asparagus for $1.29
3 lb. bag of onions for .79¢
1 quart of chocolate milk for $1.89
Total of $8.42

I also got 3 cans of cold brew cappuccino coffee drinks as a freebie there(also for Ex-CB).

*  Speaking of new glasses..........

I picked them up as they are near the CVS I went to.  Pardon my slovenly morning hair.  The exam, frames and lenses cost me $98 total and that is without vision insurance so I am happy with the price.  And the frames are purple of course! lol

Two plus days of a Nor'Easter early in the week meant we stayed home half the week.......

The "big storm" dropped just over 18 inches on us and we woke up to an additional 2 inches Friday morning so we are over 20 inches now.  ugh  Talk about adding insult to injury! ;-)
The forecast keeps changing for the next few days(snow, no snow, lotsa snow)so who knows how much more we'll get here?  But it's suppose to rise above freezing today so we may get some melt-off.  That would be nice.
Being homebound meant less spending or using gas this week so I'll take that as a win. 8-))

*  I found money!

It was a thin week for finds(well duh! I didn't go out much).......

This penny was found at Rite-Aid last Saturday.

And this sad penny was found at P and R Outlet on Thursday while waiting in line at the checkout.  I saw the guy in front of me step on this penny so when we moved up I scooped it up. lol

Found Money This Week... .02¢
Found Money This Year So Far... .40¢

* I almost forgot these two--I had a free birthday burger from Red Robin which expired on Jan. 31st so we went there on Saturday to redeem that.
While we were nearby we also went to Kohl's as I had a $5 Birthday chit to use before the end of January.  I can't show you what I used it on because it's a Christmas gift for a family member but that $5 chit brought the cost down to $1.33 OOP.  It was a $12.50 item that was on clearance(of course). ;-)

That's about it from me this week.

What frugal wins did y'all have for this past week?
Let us know!

CVS Trip on Monday, Multiple Rite-Aid Trips & a Walmart Trip To Finish Ibotta Bonus

I have a Buy 36 items/Get $10 Bonus on Ibotta which runs from 1/7-1/18/21.  I had 9 offers completed going into this week so 27 more to go to get that Bonus.  Spending OOP at this point was the $3.59 OOP at Weis on Friday(plus $7.34 in reg. Ibotta rebates there as well as $23 in rebates from Rite-Aid--Nivea and Nature Made products for which I spent Bonus Cash).
I am at $33.34 earned on Ibotta($30.34 reg. rebates and $3 Weekend Warrior Bonus)since 1/7/21.

Had to spend/roll the ECBs this week.  Here's what I bought........

2 x Nivea Breathable lotion=$16.98
1 x Poise active pads on sale=$5.99
2 x Pop-arazzi nail polish=$5.00
SubTotal.......$27.97

Coupons Used
1 x $5 off $25 purchase CVSQ=$5.00
2 x $3/1 Nivea lotion IPQ=$6.00
1 x $1 off $5 Nivea CRTQ=$1.00
1 x $3/1 Poise DigitalQ=$3.00
Coupon Total......$15.00

$27.97-$15=$12.97+.15¢ tax=$13.12
Paid with $13 in ECBs and .12¢ cash OOP.

I earned back $11 in new ECBs($5 wyb2 Nivea, $2 Poise, $4 Pop-arazzi)so spent the ECBs down by $2.

The Nivea lotion had a $2 Ibotta rebate so 2 bottles earned me $4.00 back there and upped my completed offers to 10 so 26 more to reach the $10 Fresh Start Bonus.  Total OOP now at $7.46 and $37.34 earned on Ibotta.

I went to Rite-Aid near that CVS and bought this using a $10 off $40 Q.......

2 x Working Hands lotion(at Hubs' request)$7.29=$14.38
2 x Big Win Coffee Creamer(at Hubs' request)$3.49=$6.98
2 x Nivea men's body wash on sale=$10.00
3 x Nivea sensitive shave gel 75% off=$3.72
2 x Nivea stubble balm 75% off=$3.98
4 x Carol's Daughter leave-in Conditioner $3.59=$14.36
2 x Baby Ruth on sale=$1.00
SubTotal.....$54.42*

I used a $10 off $40 R-A Q and a $3/2 Nivea body wash ManQ so it was $41.42+ $2.12 sales tax=$43.54 paid for with Bonus Cash.

Except my total shouldn't have been so high.  My 20% Wellness discount didn't come off the regular priced items!*the creamer, lotion and conditioner*
Very strange.....those 3 items should have come to $28.57 instead of $35.72 so a difference of $7.15 +.58¢=$7.73.
I noticed the issue and brought it to the attention of the cashier and manager and  I got a cash refund of $7.73 which went into my refunds/post coupon envelope when I got home.......

I earned back $20 in new BC($3 wyb2 Working Hands, 2 x $3 Nivea men's, 2 x $5 Carol's Daughter items, $1wyb2 candy bars).
The Nivea face items earned me back $9.80 on Ibotta and upped my item count by 2 so 24 items left to buy and $47.14 earned on Ibotta since 1/7/21.

Next day I hit Walmart as I knew I could knocked out a lot of Ibotta rebates(and stack a few with ShopKick too).
That trip didn't go as planned exactly(and I goofed up a bit)but here is what I bought and what rebates it all qualified for......

1 x Breakstone cottage cheese*not pictured*=.75¢
2 x Good Thins=$2.56
2 x Good Thins second rebate=$1.50
1 x big All detergent(my goof)=$2.00
1 x Scorchin hot Pringles=.75¢
1 x big jug of Purex=$1.50
2 x big bags of Hall's cough drops=$3.00
2 x Oreo thins(big packs)=$2.00
1 x Truvia=$1.50
2 x Renuzit cones=.97¢
2 x Swanson broth=$1.00
1x Yes! soup=$1.98
1 x Vaseline Smooth Almond lotion=$1.00
1 x Listerine Flosser=$2.00
1 x Listerine mouth rinse(small bottle)=$1.00
1 x Noxema cream=$1.00
1 x Rolaids antacid=$1.00
1 x Zebra gel pens pack=$1.00
1 x Bic ladies razor*No Ibotta rebate*
1 x Vaseline jelly w/cocoa butter=$1.00
1 x Ducolax=$1.00
1 x St. Ives face scrub=$1.00
1 x any brand acne product(I guess the St. Ives qualified for that)=.10¢
All these regular Ibotta rebates came to $29.61cash back.  There were 22 separate rebates bringing my total up to 34 rebates.
I also earned a .50¢ Listerine Bonus(2 different Listerine items bought)and a .50¢ Level 1 Bonus so another $1 in Bonuses earned.
The big jug of All was a goof.  The Clean Care white All qualified for 2 rebates totaling $4.50 plus had a $2 All Bonus it would have put you over for by buying this 1 All product so after rebates it was almost free(or free if you also had a coupon for it).  My jug wasn't Clean Care so I only got a $2.00 rebate on it.  It is what it is.
I also had a $3/2 Noxemz/St. Ives/Pond's/Simple digitalQ clipped on Coupon dotcom but it disappeared from my account before I got home with those items to scan the receipt in. meh.
I could have bought the small packs of Oreo thins but they didn't have the mint variety in that size so I had to spend more on those.  Between these issues and the All goof my total is $9+ higher than I had figured.

I bought the Bic razor because after the ManuQ it was a .78¢ moneymaker that I could put toward what I spent on everything else.
The only freebie above was the Yes! soup(an actual .20¢ moneymaker since it was $1.78 and not the $1.98 Ibotta gave back for buying it).  This store didn't carry or was out of some other freebies so I had to punt.

After coupons used and $30 in free Walmart gift cards I spent $38.33 OOP on all this at Walmart.
Total spending OOP toward the Ibotta Bonus is now $45.79 since 1/7/21 and $77.75 earned back in rebates.

I finished off the Fresh Start Bonus at Rite-Aid yesterday buying this stuff.......

2 x Mybite vitamins(2 different types w/separate rebates)BOGOFree=$10.99
2 x Eucerin Ezcema lotion BOGO50%=$19.48
2 x Colgate advanced toothpaste on sale=$7.98
1 x Big Win tea bags 20% off=$2.63
2 x Simple micellar water clearance=$1.74
2 x Baby Ruth on sale=$1.00
SubTotal.......$43.82

Coupons Used
1 x $10 wys $40 R-AQ=$10.00
2 x $1/1 Mybites peelieQ=$2.00
2 x $3.50/1 Eucerin item IPQ=$7.00
2 x $2/1 In-Ad Colgate RAQ=$4.00
1 x $3/2 Colgate L2CQ=$3.00
Coupon Total.......$26.00

$43.82-$26=$17.82+.49¢ tax=$18.31 paid for with Bonus Cash.
I also earned back $9 in new BC(2 x $3 Eucerin, 2 x $1 Colgate, $1 Candy Bars).

The Mybites gave me the last 2 items toward my 36 offers on Ibotta so I earned the $10  Bonus plus th $2 in regular rebates. 8-)

Total spent OOP(not counting any Bonus Cash "spent down")is now $45.79 and Ibotta cash back for regular offers and various bonuses earned on is $89.75.
I also earned 2150 in Kicks on ShopKick for the 4 Vaseline, St. Ives and Noxema items which comes out to $8.60 toward more Walmart gift cards.
I earned $8 in rebates on Checkout51 as well.
I also earned 293 points by scanning my receipts into Fetch Rewards so that's over .20¢ back there too.
Plus I picked up a Larabar at Rite-Aid as there is a Coupons dotcom freebie offer until Saturday.  Submit your receipt and get $2.29 back in a rebate, even if you spend less than that on your bar.
If your R-A carries these they are on sale this week for 99¢ each.

I found one at R-A with a .50¢ freshness sticker so it cost me .49¢(in Bonus Cash, not cash OOP).  I've already gotten my $2.29 refund on it.

Recapping--
* Total OOP since 1/7........$45.79
* Total Ibotta earrnings......$89.75
* Total ShopKick earnings...$8.60
* Total Checkout51 earnings..$8.00
* Total Fetch earings..... .29¢ give or take a penny
* Total Coupons dotcom.......$2.29

Spent $45.79 to earn $108.93.
Got some wants, some needs and some to give away.
I'll take this all day long! ;-)

CVS Again....Didn't Hate This Trip

So after earning a $3 Beauty Buck ECB I had a grand total of $27 in ECBS as well as a metric shit ton of CRTs expiring 11/11/20 so I was compelled to go to CVS and bring stuff home with me for as close to free as possible.  This is always a crapshoot for me, the getting it as close to having to pay Zero OOP at CVS.

But I got to say that I did surprisingly well on this trip with a low OOP after sale prices/coupons/ECBs used.
I was trying to get to $60 overall before any discounts as I got a $8 off wys $60 CRT along with all my other CRTS/Qs.  Of course I "wanted" to do the Babo toilet paper deal as well, but do you think CVS would give me a CRT/Q for that? Of course not!

I made a sort of plan but then I had to punt once I got into the store as they were out of some items in the plan.

Here is what I ended up with......

3 x Pantene on sale=$12.00
1 x Tide pods on sale=$4.94
2 x Oral-B toothbrush on sale=$5.98
2 x Crest toothpaste on sale=$9.98
1 x Cheerios yellow box on sale=$2.99
*The above qualifed for the $10ECB  wys $30 Deal*
2 x Head and Shoulders on sale=$12.00
1 x Maybelline Baby Lips=$4.79 *part of Maybelline Deal*
1 x Maybelline Eyeliner=$7.29 *Ditto*
2 x Cover Girl brow pencils=$12.98 *part of Cover Girl Deal*
SubTotal.........$72.95

I had $51.36 in CRTs, 2 x $2/1 Cover Girl ManuQs so $55.36 in discounts(a $1/1 Q reduced to .86¢)and the register used $18 of my $27 in ECBS(a $5 ECB was reduced to $4.59 because I had no more total to use it against). $49.06 of what I "spent" counted toward more Beauty Bucks so I already got a $3 in Beauty Bucks in my account but it expires 11/17, in FIVE days!? wtf.  I only need $5+ to earn an additional Beauty Buck too.

Total paid OOP was .03¢ in sales tax.

I earned back $21 in new ECBs($10 wys $30, $6 wyb2 Cover Girl, $5 wys $12 on Maybelline)and I still have $9 in old ECBs plus the $3 Beauty Buck so I'm at $33 in ECBS after all this.

I'll need to go back next week to use a $3 ECB and a $3 Beauty Buck.

Do you get the CRTs you want at CVS?

It's CVS Time Again....Still Hate It. LOL

So I had $19 in ECBs expiring on Monday so we made a stop at CVS that day.  Here is what I got......

2 x U Kotx liners BOGO50%=$2.68
1 x Kleenex TP roll=$1.39
1 x Lucky Charms cereal on sale=$1.99
2 x Summer's Eve wipes BOGO50%=$5.68
2 x Luden's cough drops BOGO50%=$3.88
2 x Cover Girl eyebrow pencils=$12.98
1 x Oral-B Floss=$3.89
2 x Oral-B toothbrush twin packs=$10.38
SubTotal....$42.87

Coupons Used

1 x Free Kleenex mega roll tp Digital Q=$1.39
1 x $1/1 assorted GM cereal CRT=$1.00
1 x $1.50/2 Summer's Eve ManuQ=$1.50
1 x .75¢/2 Ludens ManuQ=.75¢
1 x $3/1 Cover Girl eye product Digital Q=$3.00
1 x $3/1 Cover Girl eye product IPQ=$3.00
1 x $2/$10 any Cosmetics CRT=$2.00
1 x $2/1 Oral-B Digital Q=$2.00
1 x $2/$6 Oral Car CRT=$2.00
1 x $2 Oral-B multipack CRT=$2.00
1 x $2 Oral-B multipack CRT=$2.00
1 x $1/$5 any Toothbrushes CRT=$1.00
1 x $2/1 Crest/Oral-B multi? CRT=$2.00

Coupon/CRTs Total....$23.64

$42.87-$23.64=$19.23

I used $19 in ECBs so paid .23¢ OOP.

The fact that I got so close to nothing OOP has nothing to do with any skill on my part! lol
Pure luck this time.....

I just hate this CRT system because you can't predict what/which ones will come off so it's a big unknown where you stand until the register is done. ugh.

I had a $3/2 Crest or Oral-B items Digital Q, a $1/1 Oral-B/Glide single pack Digital Q. a $2/$9 any Oral Care CRT, and a $2/$12 any Cosmetics CRT as well.  Any of these could have also come off too because of amounts/items I bought so why did the ones that came off, come off and why not any of these too or instead??  It just makes me crazy!

I had a bunch of Dove body wash and P and G shampoo Qs to pair with other CRTS but I left the P and G Qs at home and anyway, the last thing I "need" is more shampoo. ;-)

Everything but the roll of tp and the cereal(that's for Ex-CB)will either end up in a giveaway box or as a donation to the food bank.

Oh, I earned $18 in new ECBs($2 Kotex, $3 Luden's or Summer's Eve-they were the same Deal, $7 Cover Girl, $6 2 x Oral-B toothbrushes)and I got $2 back on Ibotta for the 2 toothbrush packs so I got back more than I spent in the end.

I suppose I'll be going back to spend that $18 before Nov. 25th.
I.
Can't.
Wait.

CVS Shop from Monday

I had $22.50 in ECBs(none of which was expiring until 9/8 but I had CRTs and Qs expiring and I wanted to get out of the house)so Hubs and I took a short ride across the river to CVS on Monday.

First off I bought this........

1 x Physician's Formula lip stick=$9.99

2 x Halloween themed Hallmark Cards at .99¢ ea.=$1.98

SubTotal.....$11.97

I used these coupons......

1 x $4/1 Physician's formula item CVS CRT Q=$4.00(gotten 2 weeks ago?)

1 x $3/2 Hallmark Cards CVS Q=$3.00

Coupon Total=$7.00

Except the cashier modified the Hallmark Q down to $1.98, the total for the 2 cards.  All the Youtube CVS gurus said they got $1.02 in overage since their cashiers didn't modify the Q.  Bummer for me, right?

So my coupons came out to $5.98.  $1197-$5.98=$5.99

I paid with a $5 ECB I had so my total OOP was .99¢+.06¢ sales tax so $1.05.

I earned back a $7 ECB for buying the Physcian's Formula. rah.

Then I wanted to do the Spend $40/Get $10 ECB offer so I bought this.........

The Elvive hair products, the Old Spice body wash, the Bic pens, the Crest toothpaste and the Nature Valley bars were all part of that deal.  the Cheerios weren't nor was the Colgate.

BUT...I had a Spend $18/Get $3 off Oral Care CRT and a Spend $12/Get $3 food CRT so I had to add those products to the transaction to get(along with Qs for them)to hit the spending amounts and get the additional $$s off(because it was a better deal overall).

This is one of the things that skeeves me out about CVS....having to do a massive transaction and a lot of advance planning.  Plus sometimes you can't advance plan because if the red box gives you a  good/great deal then you have to partially redo your planned deal.

Another thing that gives me the heebies jeebies is the way they ring up stuff and trying to follow what is coming off in terms of Q/CRTs/ECBs/etc.

So anyway the transaction was this.......

2 x Elvive items on sale=$8.00

2 x OS body wash BOGO50%=$10.48

2 x Bic pens BOGO50%=$4.03

3 x Crest toothpaste B2G1Free=$9..98

4 x Nature Valley bars on sale$1.99=$7.96

My Spend $40/Get $10 ECB total was $40.45

Also bought-

2 x Cheerios=$5.00

2 x Colgate($3.69/$4.59)=$8.28

SubTotal....$53.73

*I was going to add more .99¢ Hallmark cards as I had 2 more $3/2 CVS Qs for those which would give me $2.04 overage in a perfect world like on Youtube but I knew the cashier here would modify those Qs down so I skipped that.

Coupons Used........

1 x $2/1 Elvive CVS digital Q=$2.00

1 x $2/1 Elvive IPA=$2.00

1 x $5.49 BOGOFree Old Spice CVS digital Q=$5.49

1 x $1.50/2 Bic writing items CVS digital Q=$1.50

1 x $5/2 or was it 3? Crest items CVS digital Q=$5.00

1 x $1/2 Nature Valley CVS digital Q=$1.00

1 x $1/2 Nature Valley Peelie Q=$1.00

1 x $1/2  Big G Cereals CVS digital Q=$1.00

1 x $3/2 Colgate CVS digital Q=$3.00

1 x $3/$18 Oral Care CVS CRT=$3.00

1 x $3/$12 Food CVS CRT=$3.00

Coupon Total.......$27.99

$53.73-$27.99=$25.74

I used all $24.50 in ECBs I had(including the just earned $7 for PF)and was left with paying $1.24+.03¢ sales tax=$1.27 OOP.

I earned back $14 in new ECBs($10 spend $40/Get $10, $4 Spend $8 on Colgate).  And I also earned a $3 Beauty Buck the next day because between the shampoo I bought and the lipstick it pushed me over the $30 threshold so I have $17 in ECB.

But I spent $24.50 in ECBs so this all cost me $9.82 in cash OOP and ECBs. ($7.82 if I can get the SavingStar rebates worked out.)  I don't consider this a great trip.

I was also counting on $2 plus credit toward a $5 rebate on GM cereals there on SavingStar but the CVS card on file is wrong and that site won't let me link my active card. I get a message saying "linking loyalty cards is unavailable" so I emailed support but I can't get a reply. Ugh.  Is anyone having a problem linking loyalty cards on Saving Star too?

So I don't have to go back there until mid September(when the ECBs start expiring again).  Eventually I'll say "screw it" and not buy anything that gives back ECBs and be done with CVS again. ;-)  I'll stick to Rite-Aid as long as they hang in there.

Did anyone get a great deal at CVS this week?  Tell us all about it.

A Comedy of Errors at CVS

We were out and about in the town South of us on Tuesday and I remembered that a new CVS had opened there which we would be passing right by.  So we stopped in after hitting Ollie's.
I had planned to go to CVS on Wednesday to use some expiring ECBs but why not do it Tuesday and be done with that chore, right?
Ha!

I had my scenario all planned out.
Buy a gift card and earn $10 ECB to add to the $5 one that was expiring.
Then buy: 2 Softsoap Body Wash, 2 Dove shampoo, 2 Speed Stick deodorant and 4 Arizona iced tea drinks(for our trip next week).
After Qs and ECBs I'd pay .76¢ plus any tax due.
I'd also get back $5 in new ECBs.

So I went in and scanned my EC card.  The machine made some noise and nothing printed out....so I waited a few minutes because sometimes these machines are very SLOOOOW!
I looked and someone had flipped a homemade sign taped to the machine up onto the top of it.
It said, "Out of Order".
crap.

I needed a $3/2 Dove Q that was suppose to print out at that machine so I couldn't do my scenario but I could buy the gift card and get the $10 ECB.
So I did that much of it but the ECB didn't print.
I showed the cashier(who happened to be a manager of sorts)it didn't print and the ad in my hand showing it was suppose to print.  She worked her magic and made the register print it out for me.

So on Wednesday I had to run errands down the valley so I hit the CVS along that route.
I scanned my EC card at the machine and here's what printed out............

A whole lot of nothing!  I tried again and nothing.  I guess the out of order machine "printed" out my Qs for this week(even though it didn't)so now subsequent machines were not going to actually PRINT my Qs.
Ugh ugh ugh
Not wanting to have a big to-do with the store employees over this(and not knowing if they can print the machine Qs out for me or something because really, I know NOTHING about CVS!)I just decided to punt and make up a new scenario working with what I had(which was very little).

Here is what I decided to get.......

I got the 2 Speed Stick dodorants and the 2 Softsoap Body Washes as planned.  According to my calculations I needed to "spend" another $6.14 to use my $15 in ECBs fully.
I hunted around and tried different combinations and finally hit on these Ajax dish soap bottles as they were 50% off so .74¢ each.
I grabbed a bag of generic CVS brand Cheetos(good for the car ride next week)for $1.29 to round it out.

2 x Softsoap BW BOGO50%=$7.78
2 x Speed Stick deos=$4.98
7 x Ajax dish soap=$5.18
1 x Cheetos=$1.29
SubTotal.......$19.23

Qs Used
1 x .50/1 Softsoap AppQ=.50¢
1 x $2/$6 body wash CRTQ=$2.00
1 x .50/1 Speed Stick AppQ=.50¢
1 x $1/2 Speed Stick ManuQ=$1.00
Q Total.........$4.00

$19.23-$4.00=$15.23=$15 ECBs=.23¢ OOP(plus any tax)

But that's not exactly what happened since 2 x .50/1 Speed Stick APPQs came off so discounts were $4.50 making my total $14.73.
This meant I paid ZERO OOP and lost .27¢ on my ECBs value.
If I had known that Q would come off twice I could have gotten 8 bottles of dish soap and paid .47¢ OOP in the end.
No worries...I am not fretting over losing .27¢ worth of chit.

I did earn the expected $5 in new ECBs back though. ;-)

Moral of story......no matter how much you plan out your scenarios life and the unexpected will throw you curve balls some of the time so you need to have back up plans and roll with it and be happy if it all comes out well in the end.  8-)))

$5 or Under CVS Scenario this Week...Starting with No Extra Care Bucks

IF I shopped at CVS....(which I don't at the moment)..... and I was starting with Zero ECBs, here is what I would buy in separate transactions and in what order.

#1
2 x Edge Shave Gel-on sale for $2.79 and gives $1.80 ECBs(limit 1)=$5.58
Use 1 Edge BOGO IPQ(HERE)
$5.58-$2.79=$2.79 and received $1.80 in ECBs.

#2
3 x Right Guard Deodorant on sale for $2.49 and gives $2.00 ECBs(limit 3)=$7.47
Use 1 Right Guard $3/2 IPQ(HERE) & 1 Right Guard $1.50/1 IPQ(HERE)
$7.47-$4.50=$ and use the $1.80ECB...$4.47-$1.80=$1.17 and received $6 in ECBs.

#3
1 x Revlon Lipstick on sale for $6.99 and gives $5.00 ECBs(limit of 6)
1 x Revlon Nail Polish at regular price $5.49
Use 1 Revlon Buy Nail Polish/Get Lipstick FREE ManuQ(9/12SS)
$12.48-$6.99=$5.49, add a .51¢ filler and use the $6ECB(or have them adjust it down to $5.49)....$5.49 to $6.00-$6.00=$.00 and receive $5 in ECBs to roll next time.

Total Out of Pocket....$3.96 for 2 Shaving Gel, 3 Deodorants, 1 Nail Enamel and 1 Lipstick.
"Realized" OOP is Negative $1.04 after the $5 in ECBS is figured in.

If you have ECBs to start with, a second $X off Edge coupon &/or a second $X off Revlon coupon, you can do even better than this but it's still a good scenario for a first time rookie. ;-)

Ok....I am off now to do stuff in the garden, buy some canning lids, put away a ton of stockpile stuff, make a load of meatballs and process tomatoes.

CVS Trip from a Couple of Weeks Ago....Oops!

I was over by CVS a couple of weeks ago so I went in to get some cheap Glade Candles, the Cover Girl deal and Crest Rinse.
It's weird but even though we have TONS of CVS's(almost as many as our crop of Rite-Aids)and CVS tends to limit the good deals to 1 or 2, if I don't get there on Sunday or maybe Monday, the good deals are gone!
So like Target, if I go, I go with NO expectations. ;-)
The Cover Girl stuff and Crest Rinse was, as expected, GONE!
But I still had a $10 ECB to roll over or spend or whatever, so here is what I did....

4 x Glade Candles on sale $3=$12.00
1 x Aussie 'Poo on sale=$2.99
1 x Gillette Custom Pivot Razors on sale=$6.49
SubTotal....$21.48

Coupons Used
2 x $3/2 Glade Items IPQ=$6.00
1 x $1/1 Aussie product ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $3/1 Gillette Disp. Razors ManuQ=$3.00
Coupon Total....$10.00

$21.48-$10.00=$11.48-$10 ECB=$1.48+$.09 tax=$1.57 OOP, put on CVS Gift Card so ZERO spent.
Received ECBs....$2 Gillette Razors, $2 Aussie item, $4 WYB $12 in Glade=$8.00

I did have the presence of mind to get a Raincheck for the Crest Rinses but forgot about the CoverGirl Powder....oh well.  Not like I NEED that anyway.

I will be needing to put an addition on the house fairly soon just to hold all the candles I've acquired in the past 6 months.lolol

Sunday Shoptastic Sunday! Part One

I tell you dear readers, I am plum wore out! This past weekend was so full. Grab a chair and a cool drink because this is going to take a bit.lol

Hubby took Friday off from work. Call it a mental health day.lol Hubby took #2 son on an amusement park outing so I had an entire day to myself!....well, if you don't count the 3 dogs I had to watch.lol I stayed home and did some maintenance on the coupon binder, some playing on the computer and just plain enjoyed the Q-U-I-E-T!

Saturday we spent doing yard & garden work...not my idea of fun but it was long overdue.
And we awaited the arrival of the new Range, Take Two. They actually pulled the correct color/model at the Home Despot warehouse this time so I am again able to cook any recipe my heart desires. Rah!

Sunday......well, Sunday Hubby & I wanted to spend some time together without #2 glum son, so we jumped in the car and took off on a roadtrip down outside of Philly. My absolutely mostest favorite Chinese Restaurant is down there. They are the ONLY place left, that I know of, that makes my absolutely mostest favorite Soup. It's been almost a year since I had some & the weather was nice, so we went traveling down there to get some good eats.
Well, that's not the WHOLE truth. I did have an ulterior motive for going down toward Philly this weekend. I can sum it up in 4 little letters.....

A.
C.
M.
E.

Acme. Acme Grocery Store.
I heard tell of a really REALLY good Catalina Deal going on now at the SuperValu owned graoceries(you may know them as Albertson's or Shaw's in your region). We don't have one near Teeny Tiny Town but around Philly is lousy with Acmes, that regions brand name of SuperValu grocery stores.

But I am getting ahead of myself. Let me start at the beginning of Shoptastic Sunday.
I slept in. UGH. I had wanted to get an early start on Sunday but I needed the rest I guess.
While Hubby puttered around the house with stuff I jumped in the car and went up to Rite-Aid to do this week's FREE Deals.
Notice the shiny new Stove background behind the Rite-Aid stuff.....lol

RITE-AID
1 GE LightBulbs @ $2.00
1 Duck Tape @ $1.49
1 Garnier Shampoo @ $2.99
1 Crest Toothpaste @ $2.79
1 Natrol Priobiotic @ $8.99
1 Zantac 150 @ $4.99
2 Newspapers @ $1.50=$3.00 *Not pictured*

COUPONS USED
Rite Aid $5/$25
Garnier $1/1
Crest $1/1
Zantac $1/1

$26.58-$8=$18.58OOP

All except the Garnier are FULL PRICE REBATES(Garnier is $2 on $2.99). I'll be getting back $22.26 on the Single Check Rebate check.
AND after I submit for the Zantac MIR, that's another $5.00.
That makes a refund of $27.26 and I'm only out of pocket $18.58, making this an $8.68 Moneymaker!!

There is a $3 IP Coupon for the Natrol Probiotic also. If your Rite-Aid lets you use more than 1 IP Coupon(mine won't), you could use this coupon as well as the Rite-Aid $5/25 Coupon and make the deal an $11.68 Moneymaker!

On the way to Acme we passed a CVS. Naturally I had to run in there and do the Electrosal deal.lol

CVS Store #1
4 Electrasol Dishwasher Tabs @ $4.50=$18
1 Blink Tears @ $7.99
1 Soft Soap Body Wash @ $4.99

I didn't get the $10 for the Electrasol yet, since I need to buy 1 more box. This store only had 4 boxes left.
So I ran into the next CVS that we came to.....

CVS Store #2
1 Electrasol Box @ $4.50
2 Milkbone Treats @ $4.69=$9.38
2 Newspapers @ $1.75=$3.50
Subtotal $17.38

$17.38-16.69=$.69+$.03tax=$.72OOP

I used a total of $32 in ECBs & received $29.97, so I burned through a couple of ECBs buying 4 Newspapers & Milkbones. The Milkbones came out to $1.10 a box & the newspapers have all those coupons, so I'll recoup that and more eventually.

Oh, my August Freebie that printed on my receipt is for a free bottle of CVS Mouthwash.

Part two of Sunday's Shopping Escapade to follow later this evening.....

CVS Totals for 7/18-7/25

So after the visit Sat. the 18th to the CVS where you can get the current week's deals as well as the next week's deals(except that the next week's deals ECBs don't print!)that I talked about HERE, I made a quick trip to a different CVS last week.

2x Band-Aids @$3.29=$6.58

$.49OOP

Spent $10 ECBs.
Received $5 ECBs(for buying $10 in J&J items over the course of the week), $4 ECBs for 2 Speed Stick Deodorants, $1 ECB for Duracell Batteries, $.89 ECB for CVS Pantiliners=$10.89 ECBs

I didn't start out the week trying to get the $5 ECBS for the J&J items. I had bought 3 Mini 1st Aid Kits as I needed to get to $20 to use a CRT Q for $4/20 on Saturday and I had Qs to make the Kits free. I found 1 more Kit(free with another J&J Q)so I bought 2 Band-Aid boxes for $6.58($4.58 after 2 $1/1 Qs)to get over the $10 mark. So basically, all 4 Kits and the Band-aids were free with .42 Overage after the $5 ECBs.

CVS & Price Chopper Quickies on Saturday

After a few hours of recuperating from my Yard Sale Trauma, I was itching to get out of the house. Well, it started because I had a $7 OYNO Cat from Price Chopper(from buying $20 Kraft/Unilever/General Mills Deal a couple of weeks ago)the that was expiring that night.
So I just HAD TO go out.
Yah.....that's my story.....

I hadn't been to CVS in Eight Whole Days!(is that sad or what?) so I went to my favorite one.
This one has the overlapping sales. They start honoring the coming week's sale on Saturday as they put the signage out early Sat. But they also honor the current sales ad prices, so you can do both sale weeks at once. Granted if there is a popular item on sale, since it's the end of the current sales week, they will be OUT of that item. But you can get first crack at the upcoming sales ad hot items.

CVS Transaction #1

2 Pencils @ $1.99=$3.98
2 Filler Paper @ $2.00=$4.00
4 Min-Notebooks(2 different sizes) @.99¢=$3.96

$21.91-$21.50=$.41+.03¢tax=$.44OOP
Received $4(Gillette Fusion)ECB.
NO ECBs for the School Supplies.
EEK!

So she calls the Manager.
This is how I learned that even though you can go to this CVS the day BEFORE a sale starts and still get the SALE PRICES, you Don't get the ECBS for those items.
Not the best way to learn a lesson IMHO.lolol

So I told the Manager if I couldn't get my ECBS today that I'd like to return everything but the razor & I'd come back on Sunday and buy the items again. I was just trying to play by the rules, now that I knew what the rules at this store were. I wasn't threatening or pissed off(more embarassed really), just matter-of-fact like.
I guess he didn't want the extra paperwork that a return generates or he didn't want his Sunday spoiled by me darkening his door again the next day, because he went over to the other register and after about 10 minutes he produced my ECBs for the stuff.
Oh, from the steam coming out of his ears I could tell he was telling me off in his head.lolol

And I learned something else another time when I had a problem with the ECBs printing.
When they 'force' the ECBs....at least this time and the last time they didn't print, the cashier uses a number to print them that isn't your Customer Care Number. So for these school supplies, there will be no record of me redeeming these ECB offers yet. So I could go back to CVS this week while they are still on sale(and a store still has some in stock)and I could get another set of them and have another set of ECBs print for my card.
Not that I would ever do that, mind you. ;-))
Just a little tidbit of info....

So Updated ECBs...$4Gillette, $14 School Supplies(he rounded the .99 on some up so it was even dollars, no cents)=$18

So I still had to buy some Tylenol Arthritis(I love this stuff!) & I had a $3 off $15 Coupon.

CVS Shopping June 21-27 Week Soy Joy & Always

Daughter & I made various stops at assorted CVS stores this week. I think we hit 8 stores in our travels during the week so we didn't wipe out any one store of Infinity pads. We did take the last 2 boxes at one store tho.... 2 stores were already wiped out of them before we got there.
We have TONS of CVS stores around here....I never realized until this week just how many!lol
For brevity's sake, here are the totals only. We had a card each so it's all combined for both cards.
I had 20 BOGO Qs for all the Soy Joy Bars, so 10 of them were free and didn't use any ECBs.
Also had $4/1 Infinity Qs and $1/1 ThermaCare Qs for the Heat Pads that gave ECBs. Everything else purchased beyond these things was filler so we could use ECBs instead of cash.

40 Soy Joy Bars
4 Therma Care Wrap
9 Always Infinity Boxes
**Not Pictured**
1 T-Shirt on clearance $1.49
1 Arizona Iced Tea $.99
1 Stride Gum 3 pack on sale $2.00
1 Cayenne Pepper clearance $.99

Total Coupons Used...$60.00
Value of Items bought...$169.63(reg. prices)

ECBS Used...$36.40

So I was able to roll most of the ECBs I had and I don't have to worry about darkening the door of a CVS until July 18th or so.lol

June 14th....Sunday Rolling RRs & CVS quickie

I needed to roll some RRs by June 15th and buy some Sunday papers so I headed out early to WAGS on Sunday morning.
As I came through the door at WAGS, one of the cashiers who knows me told me right off that they had NO St. Ives Body Wash in the store. She said they started the day with about 6 bottles and they had sold them all first thing in the morning. As this is a 24 Hr. store, those 6 bottles probably didn't see the sun rise before they were snapped up! They were suppose to get more in, early in the week, but I just haven't had time to get back to WAGS this week to check.

The per item breakdown on the Nivea was $2.00 ea.(not counting the clearance item)after the coupons and ECBS earned....a little high for what I like to see but ok.

I have peanut butter coming out my ears! I bought these 2 jars BEFORE I hit the Peter Pan clearance sale(.87¢!!) at WAGS, so we are good on the peanut front now.lol I also realized I didn't have enough Diet Coke stockpiled for hubby's relatives arrival in 2+ weeks. All 3 of them drink this stuff, so my 1 12-pack purchase was far from enough! I figure 2 12-packs should get them through 3 days, right? Oh wait....Sis-IL will be here a WEEK....Yikes! I'd better pick up more, huh?lol

If anyone needs Kellogg's Cereal, get to CVS this week after you print the Kellogg's coupons on Here. With coupons, they will run you $1 a box!

CVS on Saturday at Overlapping Sales Store

The CVS where I like to shop(no mean old grumpy cashier! one),begins the new week's sale on Saturday. So if I go on Sat., I can do both this week's sale and the sale that is suppose to start on Sunday. This is a great thing usually, because it means I only have to make 1 trip to CVS every 2 Weeks and not miss a week's sale. Saves time, and gas money plus wear & tear on the car and the planet.
This week however, it caused a complication in my transaction.

I had $20 in Extra Care Bucks to roll, so here is what I picked up....

6x Vitamin Water @3/$4=$8
10x SoyJoy Bars @10/$5=$5
2x Colgate Max Toothpaste @$2.99=$5.98
2x Bayer Contour Meters @$14.99=$29.98
3x 12-pack Cokes @3/$12 **=$9.75 NOT PICTURED
**Ok, this was a problem having overlapping sales. The Cokes were suppose to be 3/$12 and buy $20 worth, get $10ECBs. But the sale that started on Sunday had buy 4 Coke 12 packs, get 1 Free(or $3.25 ea.). Asked before I checked out which sale would ring up and nobody knew.
Subtotal-$58.71

3x 12-pack Cokes @$1.00=$3.00

I had planned to get Mini Wheats Cereal too so I could use the other $10ECB I had and lower my OOP, but they were out of cereal. Dang it!
The $4 Colgate ECB(2x$2) & $10 Bayer Meter ECB(2x$5) printed but the Coke $10ECB didn't print, because the lower price on the Cokes left me $2.25 short of spending $20 on Coke products.
So I went back in and explained to the Manager what happened and asked if I could buy 1 more Coke 12 pack and get the Free 5th one. He said ok so I bought....
1x Coke 12 pack @$3.25
Bottle of Aspirin $1.99 (for the doggy-she hurt her back)
Total $5.24
Used $1 Q & $4ECB from the Colgate I just got
