2017 Road Trip......Day 20 Ahead

Day 19 of this Summer Road Trip is in the books.  As we begin Day 20 there are 10 days left until we get home.

Yesterday we crossed off another state on our dwindling list of "Never Been To"s......

It was a stressful day between the traffic....South Dakota-who'd a thought that?.....and being alone in a car with Hubs for almost 4 days.  As the pioneers who crossed this land use to say, "today  I saw the elephant".  I snapped and wanted to just get out and walk home at that point.
Well, I didn't though.

One more day of driving and being alone with Hubs and then I get a reprieve as we get to hook up with SAM in Minnesota.
Then it's on to Sonya Ann's house for a few days, plus another 4 meet-ups with Family, Friends and Bloggers mixed in with another four nights in motels too.
I hope I can hold it together for another 10 days.

I don't see how folks who work on the road do it for extended periods of time and stay sane.  This different motel room game every night is tiring.  Between schlepping all your stuff into a motel and out the next day and the never knowing how bad/good the motel will be(it's been quite the wide variety of establishments!)it is unnerving and not conducive to staying calm and getting a good rest each night.
Add in all the time zone changes we've been through too plus some days we don't know what time or DAY it is.
Both Hubs and I are a bit cranky at this point.

Day 20 ahead and we cross off the last "Not Been To" State we are slated to hit this trip from the list and then it's all familiar real estate we've seen before(pretty much).

My poor camera has gotten a work out as well.  I am approaching 4 Thousand photos taken.  I sure will have my work cut out for me once I get home with tons of editing of those.

Ok, I've got to get moving here.  A mystery breakfast awaits once I get dressed.  I wonder what it will consist of?  Such a crap shoot each morning with the vittles.  We've always got our dinner leftovers tucked in the room fridge we can reheat if the offerings are sparse and/or inedible. lolz

I'll try to post again tomorrow or Tuesday if I am still alive/can function/can get online.

Have a great Sunday and pray for me that I don't lose it today on the boring drive East. ;-)

Sluggy

  1. I remember SD as a lovely state indeed. I hope you enjoy it.

  2. Hats off to you two, I don't think I could do a 30 day road trip. 10-14 max. Can't wait to see some of the photos though

    1. Being together 24/7 for a month turns out is NOT much fun for us. We ran out of things to talk about at Week 2. lol Having folks to visit with and talk with has helped tho.

  3. This is one of the many reasons I don't travel with my hubby! Lol. I think what helps keep him somewhat sane in his travels is that he does stay in some very nice hotels. These hotels, however, wouldn't be so nice if the cost was coming out of our pockets!

    1. Yes, it's been a battle to find decent motels AND not spend a fortune. I'd say right now we've been about 50% successful there.

  4. Sounds like you listed a few good reasons to buy an RV. It's NOT good to be driving on the road and be cranky. Drivers need to be alert! Hope you don't get sloppy when driving......
At least you're being honest. Most bloggers who travel lie through their teeth and tell their readers how wonderful and marvelous everything is.
    Oh well.
You'll be happy when you get home.
Get some rest. Or take power naps.
    Something!
But don't drive angry or upset.
Not good for the stress levels.

    1. Buying an RV presents a whole other level of issues/problems though I may talk about another day, after we get home.

I do make sure Hubs gets enough rest(and coffee)though. We've had a couple rough days still, due to various issues, but we always get off the road if we need to for a break/to rest.

  5. It sounds like the novelty has worn off with this traveling bit. I always worry what I have left in a motel room when I leave since I left my favorite nightgown once. Iffy eating and iffy beds would stress me out. Now, I would have to carry my own a2milk since I cannot do without milk with breakfast. I am praying that you both live until you arrive home. Then, you can do whatever you want to him...NOT...no prayers here!

    1. This 1 night and pack up everything and leave isn't fun as I am always in fear of forgetting something and due to things I need(bi-papa, medicine, etc.)I am not a light packer. Only 1 thing forgotten(so far)and it's very replaceable.

    1. Yes, yes it is.
I grew up only taking camping vacations as a child though none lasted more than 2 weeks(and I wasn't responsible for much packing/unpacking then).
At least this month long excursion isn't being taken with my father like the trips of my youth! This is a good thing.....

    1. Thanks Sandie! Y'all will get FULL reports on all in the fullness of time after I return to my normal blogging schedule once home. Y'all will probably regret having asked for a motel report when I am finished writing about all that. lolz

  8. Well, I hope I can provide a little respite for the road weary. It sounds like home cooking might be a partial remedy. I'm still planning, but the wine is chilling.

  9. It's a shame that you do not seem to be enjoying your trip and seem stressed out. It's an adventure to enjoy. Hope the rest of your husbands retirement goes better or you are in for a long and miserable time!

    1. I'll talk about all the mostly good things about this trip once home. Y'all just get the "gosh I wish I was home" stuff now. We are still in the adjusting to his retirement phase but things will improve and we'll have a great retirement.

  10. When we were traveling we were AAA members and relied on their guidebooks for hotels and sights ahead. We liked mom and pop motels more than big chains. But oh the beds! My aching back! Being in a car together can be a real challenge.

    1. The beds and trapped in a car for 6K+ miles are most of our issues too. One of our best nights of sleep was at a small, old mom & pop motel.

  11. Twenty days is a long time on the road and the distances between destinations out west can be vast. I can totally see why you are getting a little road weary at this point.

In a couple of months, you will probably forget the bad parts and start plotting your next adventure!

    1. You are probably right on forgetting and plotting again. It's like having a baby--you swear you'll never do that again but with time you forget the pain and there you are, right back in that same boat! lolz

  12. Hi Sluggy, this is Chris. After reading this, I am going to have hubby make something on the smoker for Sunday and get some good local corn and tomatoes, etc. It sounds like you need some comfort food. I will also ask our son if he has any recommendations for craft beers around here. Hang in there. <3

I know Hubs would dearly love a good beer any day. lol
