This Week on the Dining Table....March 2 to March 8 2025

The "Crazy Bird" Edition........

I hope you can make out the bit of red in the middle of the tree trunk in the photo.  That's the crazy cardinal we've had hanging around the house since we got back from our Christmas trip at the end of December.  He keeps dive bombing the window of Hubs study every day.  We think he sees his reflection and assumes it's another cardinal in "his territory " so is attacking it.  We have put a black garbage bag over the window, tried decals and also tried hanging my large windchimes in the tree to scare him off.  The only thing that works is the windchime, but only when the wind is blowing enough to make them chime.
I guess we are going to have to live with this until we leave.

Here's a short video where I finally caught the bird in action banging his beak into the window.

Frugal Friday...the May 27th Edition

First I want to thank everyone who wrote words of encouragement or called me yesterday because of my funk.  The black dog visits me often as I age but I usually am able to sent him away quickly but not this time.  It cheers me to think of how folks, many of whom I have never met IRL care and will reach out.  There are just so many balls up in the air right now it's discouraging.  I think I am in need of an adventure but don't know what to do just yet.  I'm sure someone will think of something. ;-)

So here are a few of the frugal-ish things that happened here at Chez Sluggy this past week.......

*  No online orders this past week but I did do 2 in store transactions last weekend.  Mostly for vitamins, Pepcid, band-aids, Vaseline lip stuff and some items that had Ibotta rebates.

Spent $99.82 in Bonus Cash, earned back $94 in new BC, converted $23.50 into cash rebates(including a $5 Weekend Warrior Bonus).  I also converted $7.25 in post coupons below to cash back in my pocket.  I also submitted to J and J for 2 x $10 rebates so this week was stellar in terms of spending and saving.

*  Went to Rite-Aid on Tuesday with coupons I had forgotten to bring/use last weekend when I bought some stuff.  The cashier on that weekend transaction also forgot to remove and use a $2/1 hangtag Q on one of my vitamins too.

That's $7.25 back in my pocket.

*  The only take-out this past week was Thursday.  Hubs didn't thaw anything to cook so he opted for Chinese take-out.

*  It's been unseasonably warm here this past week as well as 2 previous weeks.  That means not running the heat and not needing the a/c yet and we received a lower than normal electric bill for May.  Go us! 8-)

*   I found money!

I found this penny under a self-checkout machine last Friday at Walmart.

I scooped this .11¢ up at the Burger King drive-thru later that same day.

I found this penny at my Rite-Aid on Monday.

These pennies were also found at R-A but on Tuesday.  I went in the morning to get a gift card and found the lone penny.  I went back that evening to get my post coupons done and found 2 more pennies.

I came home that evening and did a load of laundry(cheaper time of day rates)and found this quarter in the dryer.  Any found money in the laundry is claimed by the launderer. ;-)

Total Found in last Week...... .41¢
Total Found This Year......$12.92

That's about all I've got for this past week.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!

And have a good weekend!

I also submitted the candy bar purchases to SwagBucks and Checkout51 and got back $4.50 total there and $5.50 on Ibotta(for the Renuzits and Revlon plus a .50¢ Renuzit Bonus) so after all rebates/BC this was a .57¢ moneymaker. 8-)

*  I had a $5 Midweek Moneymaker Bonus on Ibotta on 15 rebates.  Between 2 rebates done at Rite-Aid (6 Renuzits, Revlon eye item and a .50¢ Renuzit Bonus=$5.50)and 13 rebates done at Weis(PMITA)Markets plus a Kozy Shack .50¢ Bonus($20.99)I got the $5 Bonus so $31.49 total cash back in rebates.  I spent $40.25 OOP and earned back $2 in Bonus Cash too(Renuzits)so total OOP after BC and rebates was $6.76.  Nice. 8-)

*  I found money!

Last Friday I went to Weis to get some Fantastic Friday Deals(Salmon for $4.99 lb!!)and snagged this penny by the self-checkout machine.

Last Saturday was a honey hole of change at Rite-Aid!  I found a dime by the wipe dispenser, then 2 pennies tucked under the candy rack by the register and then a third penny back by the pharmacy.

On Monday, again at Rite-Aid I found a shiny new penny in front of the register counter on the floor.

On Wednesday I took a trip to Weis(PMITA)Markets and found 11 cents under my favorite self-checkout machine.

Total Change This Week.... .26¢
Total Change This Year....$2.40

That's about it for this week other than no Eating Out/Take-Out and no other spending besides food and HBA.

Tell us all about it!

Ibotta Bonuses Lured Me In & I'm Glad of It!

I started off March by not grocery shopping the first week....or so I thought!  Then Ibotta presented me with two bonuses that stacked--a $5 Weekend Bonus wyb 18 items and a $10 Money March Bonus wyb 20 items.  Obviously the weekend bonus expired Sunday night and the MM bonus expired on Sunday as well.

I had gone to Weis(PMITA)Markets on Saturday for a few things(weekend specials of asparagus for .99¢ lb., whole chickens for .59¢ lb.)so I looked around for other items that had Ibotta rebates.  I found 2 different Cliff energy drinks w/$1 rebates each(for Ex-CB), a bottle of Nature's Truth turmeric with a $2 rebates that was also half price on sale(for me)and these items........

While the Heinz ketchup didn't have an Ibotta rebate it was part of  a Catalina Deal-Spend $15 on select items and get $5 back.  Each items was $2.99 so $17.94 spent OOP on these 6 items.
(The Spend $15 Get $5 Back didn't work so I went to the Customer Service Desk to complain and they just gave me $5 back.)
The Maxwell House had a $1 rebate and the Kraft cheese had a .25¢ rebate.  So with all 5 rebates that was $8.25 back from Ibotta and I only needed 13 rebates now for the WWBonus and 15 rebates for the MMBonus.

Then while I was waiting on my Weis purchased to credit through my store card I saw that the Maxwell House rebate was back and was now $1.25 per can.  I clipped it for next time but when my Ibotta credits came through late Sunday evening I got both the $4 rebate(4 cans x $1)that expired on Sat. and the $5 rebate(4 x $1.25)that was new on Sunday.
$ spent on Ibotta items....$27.71(with tax)
$ earned on rebates.....$13.25

Then on Sunday early I went to Walmart because that's the only place around here w/enough Ibotta rebate items at the lowest price.  I threw in a couple ShopKick deals too.  I got all this......

2 x Luvs diapers=$9.94
1 x Jergen's lotion=$3.84
1 x Powerade Ultra drink=$1.00
4 x Beechnut baby food on clearance(.25¢ ea.)=$1.00
1 x Ritz crackers=$2.68
1 x Ritz cheese crispers=$2.93
1 x Wheat Thins=$2.18
2 x Stur drink mixes=$5.96
1 x Annie's mac and cheese=$1.00
2 x Maggi chicken bouillon=$2.76
1 x Spark women's razor=$7.97
1 x Spark women's refill=$7.97
1 x Oral B 3 pk toothbrushes=$1.97
1 x Skintimate razors=$5.97
1 x Oui yogurt=$1.34
(These items below didn't have Ibotta rebates, but ShopKick rebates instead)
2 x Danimals yogurt drinks(1 strawberry, 1 blueberry)=$5.96
2 x Malt o Meal cereals(1 Crunch Berries, 1 Frosted Flakes)=$2.00
Total for all these items.....$66.47
I had $15.50 in coupons making this all $50.97 subtotal.  I used a free $25 gift card earned through SwagBucks bringing my OOP to $25.97.
I earned cash back of $21.31 on 15 Ibotta rebates(it should have been 14 rebates but I also got a .10¢ any diaper cream rebate....maybe for buying the diapers?lolz).
I also earned 3,050 Shop Kicks for the Danimals and the Malt o Meal which comes out to $12.20 in rebates on that app.

Since I had done at least 18 rebates over the weekend I got the WW $5 Bonus.
Since I had done 20 rebates I got the MM $10 Bonus as well.
I also got a .75¢ Breakfast Bonus for buying 3 unique items that qualified-doing the Maxwell House and Kraft cheese this past weekend and the Gevalia at Rite-Aid a couple of weeks ago.

Total spent on Ibotta/Shop Kick items at both stores....$53.68

Total earned on Ibotta regular items.....$34.56
Total earned on Ibotta Bonuses......$15.75
Total earned on Shop Kick.....$12.20
Grand Total rebates earned...$62.51

$53.68-$62.51 rebates=$8.83 moneymaker for all.

Between food bank donation(baby food, diapers and maybe the cereal if Ex-CB doesn't want it), stuff Ex-CB may want(energy drinks, crackers, coffee, yogurt drinks), stuff for giveaways(razors, lotion, toothbrushes) and what we'll use of what is left nothing will go to waste here.

Getting paid $8.83 to take all this home and bless others too?  You bet I'll do it! 8-)))

Frugal Friday....the September 18th Edition

 Here's what passed for frugal around here this past week.....

* First off I forgot to mention I used all my Weis Points accumulated by Sept. 7th when they expired.
I had Hubs go back to Weis(PMITA)Markets on the 7th, get another 18 ct. of eggs for .99¢(using 100 points)and then he filled my car's gas tank using the last 300 points(which was .30¢ off a gallon of gas).

* I printed off my second Playtex/Walmart $5 rebate gift card.  I used the first rebate gift card on a Walmart purchase the previous week.

* Remember those 6 bars of Neutrogena soap I got earlier this Summer doing a Johnson and Johnson deal at Walmart?

Those 2 x $10 gift card/rebates finally showed up on the same day via snail mail(and I DO mean SNAIL!).
I spent under $6 per 3 bars(which will be donated/used/giveaway fodder)and got $10 Visa prepaid cards back for each 3 bars.
Nice.

*  I found money!

This dime and penny were nestled under the candy rack by the register at Rite-Aid last Friday.

I also had a penny snatched out of my clutches at Weis(PMITA)Markets.  It was just past my shopping cart on the floor as I was checking out.  I should have pushed my cart over it to keep it safe until I was finished with the cashier.  Some woman scooped MY PENNY up as she walked by and left the store....humph, the nerve!
And no, I didn't drop everything and chase her out of the store. lol

Then on Tuesday I found another penny at Rite-Aid when I went in to finish up my Bonus Challenges.
rah me. lolz

Total Change found this week. .12¢
Total Change found this year....$48.15

* I got a single cup of Brown Cow brand yogurt at Weis last Friday.  It was on quick sale for .50¢ and I got .25¢ back on Ibotta for buying it.  But the cashier scanned the reg. barcode so it rang up $1.25. Yikes!

I went to Customer Service and got a .75¢ refund to tuck into my refund/post coupon envelope.

*  I remembered to get my PandG Summer Rebate mailed in before Sept. 14th.  That will be another $15 prepaid Visa card and hopefully it arrives before the year ends.
I tried to send it electronically but I had too many items to use their online form.  That form only let you add 7 items and I had way more than that. ugh.

* We had Subway for dinner one night and I used a gift card that was paid for last year(and had earned me BC at Rite-Aid too).  Ordered online so I got a free sub for purchasing 2.  Hubs and I split the free sub for lunch the next day. ;-)

That's about it around here.  As of yesterday, when I write up these weekly FF posts, I had only been to R-A this week and spent Bonus Cash and no actual money.  There will be more shopping this weekend(Weis and Price Chopper)but that will go on next week's post.

What frugal wins did y'all have this past week?
Tell us all about them!

Some Shopping Lately, Mostly Walmart

So Ibotta came out with a $20 Moo-lah Bonus for September.  You have the whole month to purchase 75 qualifying items to earn $20.  Not a great $ amount to # of items ratio but I figure if I can combine those 75 items with weekly bonuses(Midweek and Weekend Warrior ones-thus getting more mileage out of the deal)and maybe a Swagbucks/Fetch/Shopkick deal thrown in and use some free gift cards I have this will work out well. ;-)

First I did a MidWeek Bonus last week, 11 items at Walmart and 1 at Rite-Aid gave me $21.29 back at Ibotta. (I already talked about this shop.)

One of those 11 items was these tampons which also got me a $5 Walmart e-gift card(along with $2 in rebate above).

Two days later I got a $5 Weekend Warrior Bonus so back to Walmart I went and here are the items I picked up(only a few are pictured).......

* Smile Direct toothpaste $3.98-$1 Ibotta and $3.50 back on Shopkick so .52¢ moneymaker
* Gold Bond powder $3.64-$1 Q-$1.50 Ibotta makes it $1.14
* Alka Seltzer gum $4.24-$2 Q-$2.00 Ibotta makes it .24¢
* Bic razor $5.82-$3 Q-$3.00 Ibotta makes it a .18¢ moneymaker.
* Gerber Fruit Water(not pictured) $1.98-$1.50 Ibotta makes it .48¢
* 2 x Gerber baby food*not pictured)$1.96-$1 Q-$1 Ibotta makes it a .04¢ moneymaker.
* Ultra Powerade drink(not pictured)$1.00-.20¢ Ibotta plus I got 60 Shopkicks(10 scan/50 receipt)
* 2 pack hard boiled eggs(not pictured).98¢-.25¢ Ibotta makes it .73¢
* Perdue fresh chicken(not pictured)$5.37-$1 Q-$1.25 Ibotta makes it $3.12
* Poise thin pads(not pictured)$4.84-$2 Q-$3.00 Ibotta makes it a .16¢ moneymaker.
* Cottonelle tp(not pictured)$6.48-.50¢ Ibotta makes it $5.98.
* Cottonelle wet wipes(not pictured)$2.43-.50¢ Ibotta makes it $1.93. I also got a $1 Ibotta Cottonelle bonus for buying both and another .50¢ back on Fetch Rewards for buying the tp so $6.41 OOP for both paper items.

* The Arm and Hammer toothpaste was $3.12 a tube so $12.48 for all 4 tubes.  That was a Swagbucks deal and I got $25 in SB back so a $12.52 moneymaker!
* Another Swagbucks Deal was an 8 pack of AHA! seltzer(not pictured)for $3.38. I got $3.04 back in SBs so .34¢ OOP for that.

* 2 Annies crackers/cookies were $3.82 each. I used 2 x .50¢ IPQ(didn't get the $1 insert Qs)so paid $6.64 OOP.  I got $1.25 for each on Ibotta($2.50), another $1.25 for doing the Annie's Bonus and a .10¢ Ibotta for any kid's crackers.  I also submitted for a .50¢ SavingStar rebate so in the end these 2 were $2.29 for both.

* I also bought another box of tampons this trip for $6.54-$2.00 Ibotta and got another $5.00 Walmart e-gift card so another .46¢ moneymaker(if  roll that gift card into my Ibotta/Fetch/Shopkick/Swagbucks deals at Walmart).  I've maxed out that Playtex/Walmart deal now(limit of 2).

* I also bought another ice cream sandwich for $1.47.(Pictured from the previous purchase.)  This earned back $2.18 in ShopKicks.

Just all the Ibotta rebates(with bonuses-Cottonelle, Annies, Sept Level 1, Weekend Warrior)on this Walmart trip came to $28.05.  The total at the register was $64.67.  I used a $15 PandG prepaid Visa card I earned last Winter that's expiring this month, so  I spent $49.67 OOP.
I also got $28.04 back in SBs, (used $22 worth of it to get a $25 Walmart e-gift card), $1.10 on Fetch an.d $5.68 on ShopKicks and a $5 Walmart e-gift card(tampons).
Add in 2 more Ibotta rebates done at R-A(another $6 in rebates)and I am at 29 rebates in Sept. toward that 75 total.

Tomorrow my trips to R-A and Walmart since the weekend.........
