Looking Back on April & Other Stuff

I love the end of the month/beginning of a new month time.
Ok, let me rephrase that....the money nerd in me loves this time.  ;-)

* It's 3 days to the end of April and looking back...... I am over my $200 food budget limit I imposed for April.  And that's even with using free or paid for last year gift cards. Oh well.  Still, spending $260 OOP for food for a month for 3 adults(and stocking up on some "deals")is awesome in my book.

* I have still got about a half a tank of gas in my car and have only filled it once in April.  Go me.
May will change all that in a big way.....I'll be putting miles on the Sonic and paying for lots of gas.

* I didn't take any cash withdrawals this month and still have $36 in my wallet from March's cash.
I decided when April started not to take any cash out of the bank automatically on the 1st and just see how far March's leftovers took me....to the tune of $36 evidently. lol
I think I had $72? in my wallet at the end of March.
So $36 is leftover from that $72 after paying cash for about $20 in prescriptions I picked up, a few of gallons of milk at the store($13 approx.) and I did do the drive-thru for a burger or two in April so that came out of the leftover March money too.  I took myself to the movies in April but that was using a gift card that was paid for 2 years ago.
Sounds about right.  I really didn't spend on much besides groceries this month.

So I am going into May(really? May already!?!)with $36 in my pocket and half a tank of gas.
Woohoo! ;-)

* I've only got 1 item left on my To-Do List for April-a Sallie's donation to finish gathering and taking in.  I guess I'll get the rest of it gathered today and loadedd into Hubs' car when he gets home and see if Hubs can drop it off on the way home from work on Friday.  Then we don't have to make a trip there over the weekend.

*  I bought a total of 14 bags of coffee this past sales week at Weis(PMITA)Markets while they had this brand on BOGO sale.

6 bags of the Alert type(highly caffeinated)cost $7.47 after sale and $1.50/1Qs or $1.25 for each bag.
8 bags of assorted regular types/flavors cost $10.96 after sale and $2.50/2Qs + 1 x $1/1 Weis Q or $1.37 per bag.

$76.86 worth of reg. retail coffee for $18.43 or $1.32 on average per bag.
I also have a rain check for 8 more bags of the flavor they were out of that College Boy prefers + 4 x $2.50/2Qs to use with that rain check, netting me 22 bags of coffee at a cost of $30.39 or $1.38 per bag average.
Not too shabby. ;-)
Some of it is whole bean coffee so it will stay fresher longer and we can always throw some into the freezer to keep if it gets "old" sitting on the pantry shelf.

* Ok, I am serious about id-ing this mystery flowering tree!
Reader Tina left a comment Monday(thank you for that!)about it being a Saskatoon Serviceberry tree.  I looked and the photos I found are not quite right plus it does not grow berries. sigh.
So here is a better up close shot with my lovely whitest white woman hand in the picture......

The flowers are small(about 1.5 inches diameter)and have thin petals.  Most of the flowers are now past their prime bloom and you can see the leaves are beginning to sprout.  It's an oval leaf much like a beech tree I think?

And it's definitely not a bush or a short/dwarf tree.....

The two trunks behind the swing are the tree in question so it's as tall as our 2 story house + another story +.

This is a photo standing under it looking up.

And here are the petals that it sheds all over the yard........

I looked around while I was driving to Weis this week and noticed about 4 more of this same tree along the roads on my route.  None were in anybody's yard so I couldn't just go up to a door and ask them if they know what was growing in their yards.....because you know, if I got desperate enough, I'd do just that.  lolz

So I am off to work on my End of Month Grocery tallies, a blog post or two(1 geneaology, 1 road trip)and get that Sallie donation sorted out.

What's going on in your world today?

Rite-Aid Trips 5/21/10 & 5/22/10....& a Pitiful Picture

Would you like to see something pitiful?
Here is my Single Check Rebate for April.....you remember, the month I hardly set foot in Rite-Aid?

If you can't make it out(thankyouverymuch crappy camera!), it says.....$8.00.
Yep, 8 whole big ones!
For some folks, an $8 check at Rite-Aid rocks but for me?.....I hang my head in shame.lol

On to other things......

Have you noticed that I am so lazy this month and I keep holding off on my Rite-Aid runs until the week/sale is almost over?
This is NOT good since the good items go fast!  But I have been darn lucky with this, as I have been able to find what I want to buy....excuse me, get free most, if not all of the time anyway.  ;-)

Here is what I bought on Friday......

Transaction #1
3 x Benadryl w/Wellness discount $4.39=$13.17
2 x Oreo Cookies on sale $2.99=$5.98
1 x Gallon of Milk=$3.20  **Not Pictured** since it's GONE ALREADY!lol
SubTotal.....$22.35

Coupons Used
1 x $5 off $20 Purchase AdPerks VV IPQ=$5.00
1 x $5/2 Benadryl ManuQ=$5.00
1 x $1/1 Benadryl ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $1 off $10 Cough, Cold, Allergy Purchase Wellness CRT Q=$1.00
1 x BOGO Buy 1 Nabisco Cookies and Gal. Milk/Get 1 FREE Nabisco Cookie Facebook Q=$2.99
1 x FREE Nabisco Cookie/Cracker Item Home Mailer Q=$2.99
Coupon Total....$17.98

$22.35-$17.98=$4.37 OOP * Put on free Rite-Aid Gift Card so ZERO OOP

Benadryl purchase qualified BIL for $25 Gift Card level of SCR #500.
This Benadryl purchase also qualified BIL for a $20 Allergy Gift Certificate.  This is the Allergy Rewards Program....purchase $75 in qualified Allergy meds and you get a $20 Certificate good at Rite-Aid.  BIL had some Benadryl purchases on his account from March that was within the time frame for this program so this $50 purchase for SCR #500 also got him over $75 in purchase for the Allergy Program.
So....$25 Gift Card & $20 Gift Cert. qualifed for now!

Value of Items purchased....$29.25

Why I bought what I did?
*I needed $12 and change more to get BIL to $50 in Allergy purchases to qualify for SCR #500 & get him the $25 Rite-Aid Gift Card level.

*That Nabisco Facebook Q was expiring that Day so I HAD to use it or lose it.  Combined with the FREE Cookies Home Mailer Q, I got 2 free cookies and just had to pay for the milk, which we needed anyway, so might as well buy it at Rite-Aid since it's the exact same milk/company/price as at the grocery store, and the grocery stores in town won't take the Facebook IPQ.....so there you go.lol

While leafing through the May SCR Directory Friday night,  I noticed the $2 Nabisco rebate #94-- Buy $10 of Nabisco items, get a $2 SCR.  Since I already was over halfway to $10 & Oreos are always welcomed here, I put another scenario together for Saturday evening.

Transaction #2....

1 x Welch's Grape Juice w/Wellness discount=$4.15
2 x Oreos on sale @$2.99=$5.98
1 x Colgate Pro-Clinical TPaste on sale=$2.99
6 x M&Ms on sale BOGO($3.99)=$11.97

2 x B2G1Free M&Ms ManuQ=$7.98
Coupon Total....$19.13

$25.09-$19.13=$5.96 OOP  *$6.31 put on Rite-Aid Gift Card, so $.35 OOP....I had taken all but 1 Gift Card out of my wallet and it only had $6.31 left on it so I HAD TO ACTUALLY SPENT MONEY at RITE-AID!!
The HORRORS!....lol
Value of Items purchased....$43.40

Why I bought this stuff?.....Well, the cookies were to get the $2 SCR. I figure if I apply the $5 off $20 purchase Q to the cookies since I had no more Qs for them, they 'cost' me $.98.  The Toothpaste was $.99 after Qs and I wanted to try this new kind so for .99¢ it's a go.  The juice was free after Q and I love grape juice...I just hope the eating machine aka #1 son keeps his grimy paws off it and I actually get a glass!lol
6 bags of M&Ms?  Well....getting 6 bags for a total of $3.99 is awesome and almost free anyway, right?  It breaks down to $.66 & a half cents per 12 oz bag.  And we love Peanut and the Peanute Butter M&Ms here....and it's one of the few candies I can send to camp with the kids that won't melt.lol

This transacation qualified BIL's account for a $2 SCR, so we ended up with $1.65 in overage this time. 8-)

Here are the Rite-Aid MAY SCR Period Grand Totals so far......

Number of Transactions.....10
Out of Pocket.....$13.33--all but $.35 put on free Rite-Aid Gift Card=$.35 OOP
SCRebates due....$33.00 & $50 in Rite-Aid Gift Cards--making cash overage this month of $32.65!
Value of Items....$318.35

Not a bad haul so far for 35¢, huh?

I don't see anything I have to have this week at Rite-Aid but something may pop-up later this week.  I need $12+ in more Allergy meds purchases to qualify for the $20 Allergy Program Gift Certificate on my account so I may buy that this week to finish it off.

Do you have any good deals you are doing at Rite-Aid this week?  Let us know!

Meal Plan Monday...May 25th Edition Quick & Easys

The Meal Plan for last week?
I never got my act together in time to post it.
It was a crazy sort of week due to the fact that the support staff at the high school & middle school here was on strike, so I had 3 teens home at noon each day.
What a blessing and a joy!<---total sarcasm
I sort of made the Meal Plan up 2 days at a time as we went through the week, pulling most things from my stockpile or freezer.
The highlights were the LOBSTERS(a treat for $5.99lb. at Shop Rite!),Corned Beef/Cabbage/Carrots/Potatoes, Lasagna, Pizza-all from the stockpile or the previous week's shopping, except for the head of cabbage and the Lobsters. But sometimes, life is like that...the not planning ahead thing. It's at times like this, that it's a great thing to have a stockpile to pull from instead of having to run to the grocery store every night. Having a 'store' here that I've purchased everything at a low cost to rummage through sure beats being in the 'real store' rummaging for tonight's dinner at RETAIL prices!lol
As far as last week's Meal Plan, let's just start fresh this week, shall we?
The FOOD WASTE report for last week....with daughter dieting and #1 son no longer in wrestling season & #2 son becoming a mercurial eater, I really need to scale back how much I cook. There were so many leftovers from the previous week and a bit more this past week(but not as much as the previous week, at least). The doggies have been eating lots of leftovers with their kibble! I sure don't like spending all this money & then feed our food to them. Scaling back is what needs doing here.
I did spent some time cleaning the fridge 2 weeks back & again 2 days ago. I still need to get the bottom half done later this week. Which leads me to the Food Waste this past week, which was some old food items dug out of the back of the fridge Sunday. I did feed the leftovers we didn't consume to the doggies but the old jar of roasted red peppers(what a waste...I love those!), an old opened jar of spaghetti sauce & 1 looooong expired yogurt were unfit for even dogs and pitched out.
The only items I need to buy for this week's menu are the salad/sandwich greens & a tomato..oh and some sliced cheese as #2 son is still on a grilled cheese sandwich kick.
This week is chock full of standard meals for my house, with not much fancy stuff or experimenting. No baking from scratch either. I have much cleaning and organizing to do as relatives are coming soon, so meals are simple and quick here this week. No expensive meats or ingredients this week either so most of what I'm serving is pretty low cost.
Did I say 'this week' enough times for you in that paragraph?lol

Here's what is on the Menu at Sluggy's house this week.

MONDAY-Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Grilled Yellow Squash

TUESDAY-Baked Fish, Mushroom Rice, Brussel Sprouts w/Bacon

WEDNESDAY-Spaghetti & Meatballs(Beef or Turkey), Salad

THURSDAY-Club Sandwiches & Soup(might be Homemade Clam Chowder)

FRIDAY-Tacos, Corn, Spanish Rice

SATURDAY-Chinese Out for Lunch, Leftovers for Dinner

SUNDAY-Chili, Cornbread

DESSERTS FOR THE WEEK-Watermelon, Ice Cream, Chocolate Brownie Cookies(from the Pepperidge Farm Outlet)

Back from Weis Mrkt. where it's H-O-T!

Yes it's HOT at Weis Markets.....HOT SAUCE, that is!

I needed to pick up cake mix today to make Hubby a cake for his birthday. His actual birthday was last week, but he was sick, so we are celebrating tonight.

He requested a Chocolate Cake and I have NO chocolate cake mix in the house. I do have cocoa powder, flour, baking powder & sugar but....

1. I am too lazy today to drag all that out.

2. My last made-from-scratch cake didn't turn out so well.

3. Weis is having a sale on Duncan Hines mixes this week.

So I bopped down the street to my Weis market in Teeny Tiny Town and here's what I brought home....

I got to the cake mix aisle and found not only are the cake mixes on sale for $1 a box, but the frosting is $1.50 a tub AND if you buy a cake mix, a brownie mix & a frosting, you get FREE LARGE EGGS!

Having coupons for Duncan Hines would make this deal even better. The only Q I had was $1/3 Brownie mixes and I just didn't feel the need for 3 of those today. So I bought 1 of each AND a box of Angel Food Cake Mix(I need this for Easter's meal & Betty Crocker because Betty was cheaper). ;-)

Heading on over to pick up my eggs(did I mention that they were FREE?), I made a wrong turn and passed down the condiment aisle. I noticed that the French's Mustard(classic yellow)was on sale for $1.49 or $1.79, depending on the size of the bottle. Not a very low price but....I have coupons for 50¢ off/1 (this Weis doubles up to $1), making my discount $1 on ea. bottle.

AND there is a OYNO Catalina Coupon for $1 when you buy 2 bottles. So I picked up 4 bottles.

Further down the condiment aisle I saw a cardboard freestanding display of Frank's Hot Sauce-3 for $1. These weren't the regular sized Hot Sauce bottles but smaller.

Regular small size is 8 oz, these are 5 oz. bottles. Look for them....

I had $1/2 coupons for Franks & the coupon has no size limit on it, so I picked up 12 bottles. **If you get the 3/$1 bottles you will have to buy in multiples of 3 to use the $1/2 coupons....unless your store will take a coupon that gives you overage. So my 12 bottles used 4 coupons and made the Hot Sauce FREE!

I tried to get the mustard for free-at least the second 2 bottles. I went to the self-check out and bought 2 bottles, using 2 .50¢ off coupons. Paid .98¢ and got a $1 OYNO catalina. I tried to use 2 .50¢ off coupons & the $1 Cat the second time, but the cashier wouldn't take the Cat. Now I realize that the Cat would have made .02¢ overage on the purchase. I gave her the coupons and THEN the Cat....I should have given her the Cat first, then the 2 .50¢off coupons. The first coupon would have rang up doubled to $1 and the second coupon would either adjust down on the doubling(to .48¢, not .50¢)OR it won't double at all. In that case, the 2 bottles of mustard would cost me .48¢ instead of the .98¢ I paid. And it would generate another OYNO $1 Cat to keep rolling this deal.

I'll have to go back tonight or tomorrow and try with the mustard again.

Transaction #1
2 Mustard @$1.49 ea.
Subtotal....$2.98
Qs Used....$2.00
TOTAL....$.98
Got $1 OYNO Cat

Transaction #2
2 Mustards @$1.49ea.
12 Hot Sauce @3/$1
2 Cake Mix @$1 ea.
1 Frosting @$1.50
1 Cake Mix @$1.67
1 Dzn. Eggs @$1.73
Subtotal.....$13.88
Qs Used
2 Mustard $2(doubled)
4 Hot Sauce $4
Instant Q for Eggs $1.73
Total Qs.....$7.73
GRAND TOTAL...$6.15 & a $1 CAT

[Grand Total could have been either $4.17(w/free mustard)or $4.66(w/2nd Q adjusted)]....oh well.

So I'm OOP $7.13, I have products valued at $16.86 AND I have 2 $1 CATs to use the next trip to the store.

Be on the lookout for those special sized FRANK'S RED HOT SAUCE at your local Weis/Mr.Z's market. Like I said, this store had the display set up in the condiment aisle, but it could be put elsewhere-like near the deli or by the Ethnic foods-so keep your eyes peeled.

I am betting that this special Frank's Sauce isn't just a Weis thing. If anyone finds this display/price on Franks in a different grocery chain, please leave me a comment and let me know.

thanks!

Meat and Smellin' Fine....an Inventive Scenario

Did you get this Coupon Insert in your Sunday newspaper?
If so you have an opportunity to get a FREE HAM OR TURKEY!
Yup, I said FREE.

We Coupon Hounds are a quirky bunch. Even while we are hard at work at a fulltime job, or chauffeuring ourselves or our kids to activities or folding laundry, our minds are hard at work.
Hard at work thinking up new ways to get a D-E-A-L.
Thinking up new scenarios using our Coupons to get us the best price possible for things we need to buy.....or even better, getting things we need for FREE!

The insert I referenced above has a MIR form in it. Basically, buy a ham or turkey valued at up to $20 AND buy $40 worth of UNILEVER Products during the month of April. Send in your dated store receipt(s) and they will send you a check for up to $20.
Here is the actual deal.

Someone has come up with a way to buy the $40 of items with coupons so that they cost you only the tax on $40.74.
Read it here on MOM TO MONKEYS.

Here's the gist of the scenario.
Get 42 of the AXE Products Coupon from the insert.
Take them to Walmart, where they sell the TRIAL SIZE of AXE for .97¢.
Give the cashier the 42 coupons(you might want to break this transaction into more than one so the cashier doesn't freak out on you) and pay ONLY the state tax on this purchase.
Buy a ham or turkey up to $20 in cost.
Submit the form with the store register receipt(s).
Get a check back for up to $20.

Free meat.
All the Axe you will EVER need.

Or donate it to a Men's Homeless Shelter. Just because they are homeless doesn't mean these guys don't want to smell nice too, right?lol

And if you live in a state without sales tax, you are out of pocket NOTHING!

I read this and hit myself in the head thinking, "Why didn't I think of this!" 8-))

$60K $AVING$ CHALLENGE-March Update

I have posted my March End of Month 60K $AVING$ CHALLENGE Totals already. I know it's not April yet(1.5 days to go) but I'm trying to be on top of things so cut me some slack, ok?
If I happen to spend any money between now and April, I'll shake down #1 son for some cash since he has a real job. All those months of puking up everything I ate and carrying his lardass fetus around should be good for a 20 spot, right?lolol

Down to business.....
After the disasterous February Total(negative gain), I am happy to report that we finished March in THE BLACK!
Yah!!!
We lowered our MasterCard bill(which is paid off each month-NO BALANCE EVER!) to under $1K(last month it was over $2.3K). Usually when the MC bill goes down, hubby's Cash Withdrawals go up. We did Not see an increase in Cash Withdrawals this time.
We had a bit of rolled coins as usual, but you will notice there is NO eBay income for March. I have been so preoccupied with getting a food/toiletries stockpile up and organized, along with other stuff related to the kids that I let my eBay store sit vacant for almost the entire month. I am kicking myself because of the waste of money paying a store fee to eBay & an auction managemnt/photo storage fee to InkFrog for the month for NOTHING. But I find it difficult to keep myself on task w/eBay lately, since the sales when I was keeping up with it this winter were so disappointing. The economic crunch is hitting even eBay shoppers and the sellers there are feeling it. It figures in a recession-like economy I would see a large falling off of sales, since I don't sell 'needs' type items.
Back on point....
A large part of the glorious NET GAIN for March you see is the Income Tax Refund we received last week. Without that added into our Income column, we still eeked out a Gain for March of about $1K.
This $AVING$ CHALLENGE is 'my thing'.
Only 1/2 the refund is mine technically.
Hubby needs to be consulted about any potential plans for his part of that money. For now, I'm leaving it all in the $aving$ Column. I'll update after a final decision on the refund.

I was happy to see that we could still $ave this month, even though we had approx. $1400 in unusual expenses-Municipal taxes, state taxes due & Dental bills out of the ordinary.

Next month I am looking for the electric bill to decrease(less heating costs)& I'm going to look into lowering the cable costs and consolidating phone services.
I'm still spending too much on the food/household budget. I'll be updating those costs for March in an upcoming post.

It's the End of the 1st Quarter of 2009. So far we have a Savings Total of $7409.53 for the year. If we keep this up, we'll be able to $ave ALMOST $30K this year! It's not $60K like I had planned, but I'll consider it a very good result.
March had a positive outcome & I'm planning some changes to give us a better gain in April.....unless MURPHY shows up on the doorstep while my back is turned!

Hounding Ends, March Money Totaling Beings

Here's a pic of our 2 beagles:Peanut & Cherry. The one in the back in the photo(Peanut) often uses the other beagle as a pillow, like he's doing now. They love them some napping in the sunny spot in the living room. Oh, to be an actual hound and not just a human shopping hound.

Speaking of hounds....I think this last post(the WAGS Clearance one)gets me up-to-date on Hounding trips. I know those of you who aren't 'into' this are not-so-silently saying, "FINALLY! THANK HEAVENS!!....I NEVER Thought She's FINISH!!!", right about now.

You all are just soooo amusing. ;-)

Yah, I am kinda burnt out on the Deal Seeking for awhile. I seriously need to take some time this weekend and straighten the storage of the stockpile. My freezer is also so full STILL, that I am continuing my moratorium on buying any food product that needs refridgeration, outside of milk. The freezer in the garage needs a BIGTIME defrosting so we are going to eat down what's in there until I can transfer it all into the lil' freezer on the fridge and defrost the entire unit.

And it's almost the end of the Month, which means it's almost time for
my 60K $AVING$ CHALLENGE Update for March.

I can't wait to get out the ol' abacus and start crunching those numbers and see where we stand at the quarterly mark with our savings.

Offhand, I KNOW I went way over my $250 LIMIT on grocery & stocking-up Budget.

*sigh*

The most I can hope for is that it's nowhere near Feb.'s total.

It's shaping up to be a pretty nice weekend here. We are suppose to get rain so it will be messy but the temperatures are suppose to be mild(not freezing). And the ground has already thawed out, so I'm hoping I can get the clan outside at some point to do some marking, digging, compost moving, etc. prep work for the garden.

Adding to my good mood this Friday is also......

The Direct Deposit of our TAX REFUND into our bank account!

Yay!!!!!!!

I know, it was our money to start with anyway, but I still feel like a kid in a candy shop when our beloved government pries it out of their ever-reaching long, sharp-clawed talons and gives it back to us to use however WE see fit.
Stimulus this baby!

Without revealing the exact amount, I'll just say it's a substantial enough wad to buy something like a used car....or keep Paris Hilton in chewing gum for 3 days.

I'm not sure yet how much(if any)of this wad of cash will end up being part of the 60K Savings Challenge, as my better half has not taken up this Savings Challenge with me. This is my Savings idea, but the money in this household isn't mine alone. I'll be conversing with Hubby this weekend about how this wad of cash will be allocated. He's not one to take it and go out and buy some Boy Toy(ie-read blow the money)but he did mention the word 'VACATION' in the same sentence with Tax Refund Cash.

Will update when this situation unfolds.

Gotta go make some more newspaper seedling pots and ruminate over what Vacation entails this year in Hubby's mind.

GREEN & THRIFTY THURSDAY-Being Frugal AND Green

I'm starting a Series of Thursday Posts here on "Don't Read This; It's Boring!", called GREEN & THRIFTY THURSDAY.

It will be a Post with a small tip on things you can do to save money AND help the environment. After all, being frugal is great but saving money & time is not so good, at the expense of our Planet!

The 1st Tip is about ink, paper and waste.

Since I've been printing coupons from the Internet, I found that I've had ALOT of paper waste and I run through ink like I'm bathing in it sometimes. I do use recycled printer paper as that's better for our world, or the Green Option, but it's NOT the Thrifty Option. Not having to use as much paper & ink IS both the Green & Thrifty thing to do.

Some sites print 1 coupon per page, some sites fill up the page with recipes or ads for the product below the coupon, & some sites will print multiple coupons on each sheet of paper. I like the last kind of coupon site, not so much the first two. But sometimes you just don't have a choice if you want certain coupons.

Here's what I do to save some paper and ink.

Most coupons/sites let you hit the back button and print each coupon twice. If I am only printing 1 coupon on a sheet of paper, after it prints, I put the sheet back in the printer turned upside down, so I can print another coupon on the blank bottom of the page. That way, I get 2 coupons on 1 page.

I also watch as the coupon is printing. If the printing process gets to the point where you can tell that the actual coupon has finished printing, but the printer is still now printing an ad(using all your expen$ive colored ink!)below the coupon or a recipe you have no desire for, hit the CANCEL PRINTING button to stop the printer. Your paper should immediately come out and you've saved both the bottom of the page to print another coupon and you've saved all that precious ink!

If all else fails and you find you can't avoid ads or recipes & waste of partial sheets of paper when printing coupons, don't throw those scraps of paper away after cutting the coupons out.

Here are some ideas for reusing those leftover paper pieces.

*Tear or shred paper scraps to compost with your kitchen scraps.
*Use it to make homemade paper if you are crafty. Google 'making homemade paper' to find some instructions.
*Shred it and use for small pet bedding(like hamsters, mice, etc.)
*Cut the paper scraps into notepad size sheets and use the clean backside for writing notes.
*Give paper scraps to your small kids for coloring or doodling.
*Any other ideas? Please leave them in the comments section below.

WAG-ing on Sat. March 14th Oy! The Pain

I hit WAGS saturday night. I figured not much would be left on the shelves but I was in the area anyway, so I went to check it out. I don't do diapers anymore(thank goodness!), so I wasn't hounding after the Huggies deal.
Everything in pictured together from all Transactions, except 1 Coffee-Mate. Daughter polished it off before I could take a photo.lol

I went into the Store with $21 in RRs to spend.

The Irish Spring Body Wash generated a FREE IS BODY WASH, the Grape Nuts Cereal generated a $4RR & the Dove Deodorants generated a $1.50/2 Q.
I know the travel Dove Deos weren't generating RRs, but I wanted to use my 3 coupons and that made these $.24 each. I am planning on giving a donation of toiletries to the local Women's Shelter and these are just the right size for that.
Transaction #2

2 x Grape Nuts Cereal @ $2.50 box
2 x Smart Balance Butter Spread BOGO @ $2.99 for 2

The Irish Spring Body Wash generated a FREE IS BODY WASH, the Grape Nuts Cereal generated a $2RR + a $1.50/2 Q for Grape Nuts.

This transaction was a mess!
The register wouldn't take one of my coupons this time and the Asst. Manager came over to 'help' and ended up voiding things and reringing and charging me a penny for the Body Wash(can't be giving things away for free!lol). He had no clue what he was doing and even said that management is NOT trained in running registers so they are clueless & the cashiers are the only ones in the store who really know how to operate the machines.LOLOL
So I think I got overcharged on this transaction BUT to complicate things even more....

After I got out into the car, I noticed all 4 Coffee Mates weren't sale priced on my register receipt. I had gotten the WRONG ONES! ugh The LIQUID were on sale, I got the POWDERED. So back into the store I went and exchanged them for the correct items. Now they owed me money back, as the Powdered were $4.49 & the liquid ones on sale were 2 for $2.48. So I got $8.04 back(4x $2.01 each). I have had to reconstruct the Transaction #2 receipt(and #1 to an extent)....this is why I come out with a negative OOP for #2.

Transaction #3

Irish Spring Body Wash @ $4.49

Coupon used...
Free Irish Spring Body Wash $4.49

This post has been an ordeal to straighten out. Thank goodness it's over.lol
I need to go take a walk and clear my head now....

Weekend CVS-ing OOP $8.55/2 Transactions

My foot finally felt well enough for me to drive on Sat. so I could hit CVS & WAGS. I had a $10/50 CRT expire before I could get out to CVS.ugh

But I did have another 1 still valid. yay!

CVS had some of this week's specials out already on Sat.(the small crackers/cookies for $1 & the healthy snacks Quaker granola bars/oatmeal 2/$5, spend $15, get $5 ECBS)so I was able to get to $50 even though they were STILL out of Carnation Instant Breakfast, etc. at this store.

*There is a $1.25 Q taken off on my receipt I can't account for. I had a 3rd Vaseline Lotion that I didn't buy & had the cashier take off. She had my Q for it though and must have rung it through.

She also didn't charge any tax on the taxables.
Plus she gave me the full Suave coupon value even though the item rang $1.99.
She was quite the train wreck!...but in my favor for a change.lol

If you add in the coupon & tax not charged to my 25 cent total, the accurate OOP total should be $1.87.

I also had a $4/20 CRT good Sat. only, so I did another transaction.

I'll Show You Mine...

I've been clipping coupons and practicing the Art of the Coupon now for just over 6 weeks.

On Saturday, I put all my toiletry steals & deals together and took this picture. I guess you would now call this a Stockpile.....

This is only the stuff I got for free or pretty darn close to free, up to March 12th. This doesn't include the armloads of stuff the family is now using and it's ONLY Toiletries(except for the 3 packs of gum on the bottom right side). There is also the PAPER Products Pile, the CLEANING Products Pile and the humongous FOOD & DRINK Pile.

With calculator in hand, I figured a rough estimate of $788.00 retail value on this, as they call it here, turlitrees lot. I paid approx. $20 out of pocket cash for all this and that included all the taxes.

I need to make some plans to utilize some of this now. Like taking the glucose meters to the free clinic & some of the toiletries to the local women's domestic violence shelter. Seriously, no one needs 14 tubes of toothpaste!

I've found that over these weeks, I've gotten a little more picky about what I try to score. I no longer try for the Glade products, Scenty Sprays & things like Fabric Softeners usually, as those are somethings we just don't use. Also Tums and Gastro-type medicines. This family has indestructible gastrointestinal tracts it seems.lolol
I don't wear make-up but I've gotten a bit(not pictured)for #1 daughter. She snatches that away right quick!

So, how am I doing with the Hounding??

And more importantly, WHERE do I put all this stuff??!!??!!

I really really need my dining room table back.

Every crevice is filled in my house and garage! My pantry is filled, the trunk of my car is packed, the shelves in the garage are groaning under the weight of too many canned goods ready to topple over.....I need to organize it all and FAST!!

I may have to evict a child and take over their bedroom.

Hey, now there's an idea.....

Evict the surly teen du jour, gain some storage space.

Hmmmmmm.

"Sorry hon....it was a choice between you & your stuff or the Bic Razor Stash. The razors keep my legs silky smooth & you keep my blood pressure up by arguing with me. Sorry, you'll have to find someone else to stress out for the next 2 yrs."

***Poof! Sluggy wakes from her dream.***

Seriously though, how much space does your total stash take up in your house?

I've seen other people's stash photos but tell me how much space you use for it.

Walgreen's...Savings over 86%

So daughter needed me to take her to do some errands on Sat.-get a gift card for her friend's Sweet 16th birthday party & find a dress for the school play at the Salvation Army. I usually sew her costumes for the plays she's performing in, but this year I wanted to try to find something cheap at Sallie's first. I usually end up spending close to $100 if I have to make her costume. And we are already out $31 for tap shoes of all things! Daughter doesn't dance, by her own admission, and CAN NOT Tap! But she is in the chorus of this play and she has to at least pretend to tap in the dance numbers(try finding tap shoes in the right size USED at Sallie's-ha!), so I had to buy shoes that she will NEVER use again.

Back to the shopping....

So while we were out running her errands, we concluded my PRICE CHOPPER TRIPLER CAMPAIGN(see previous post) & we stopped into a new to me Walgreen's(WAGS). This WAGS was so different from my usual WAGS. It is NOT downtown, so there were hardly any shoppers in the store, the shelves were well stocked(except for a few of the month long Easy Saver Rebate items)and the clerks were actually smiling & seemed happy to see you.

Wow!

I pulled my battle plan, er....my notes out of my purse and began the hunt. Along the way, I found some clearance deals & had to send daughter out to the car to get more coupons from my box. Daughter was not pleased with me, until I found some insanely cheap Hair Coloring & allowed her to put it on my tab.
Oh, how quickly some free gum, shampoo & cheap hair dye can change the mood of a surly 16 yr. old female.

I went into the store with 3 RRs.

I came out with $197.94 of products & $21 RRs.
I spent $28.68 OOP including tax.
I used $169.26 in MQs, Instant Qs, Wags Qs, RRs & clearance prices.

Savings of $169.26($176.25 after MIR) or more than 86% (89% after MIR)!

Transaction #1

3 Slim Packs Wrigley's Gum $1.19, used 3 Free Item Qs=FREE
Colgate Max Toothpaste=$3.29 + got $3.50 in RRs
Excedrin Menstrual Gelcals $5.99, used $4/1WQ & $2IPQ=.01 overage
Vaseline Lotion $3.59, 25% off & used $1.25/1Q=$1.61+ got $2 in RRs
8 Dove Soaps $12.72, used WQ(-$4.80)=$7.92 + got $10 in RRs
Reach Toothbrush on sale $1.59, used $1/1Q=$.59

Total Value with tax=$33.48
Total Qs & Sales=$22.12

I spent $11.36 OOP including tax & Received $15.50 in new RRs

Transaction #2

6 Natural Instincts Hair Color (on sale for $2.39ea.)$14.39, used 6 $2/1 Q=$2.39
4 Clairol Hair Color(on sale for $2.99ea.)$11.96, used 4 $2/1 Q=$3.96
1 Clairol Hair Color(on sale for $1.29ea.)$1.29, used 1 $2/1 Q=.71 overage
Viactiv Chews(on clearance) $3.49, used WQ $3/1 & $2/1 Q=$1.51 overage
Excedrin Menstrual Gelcals $5.99, used $4/1WQ & $2 IPQ=.01 overage
2 Sambucol Tabs $25.98, used $10/1WQ(x2) & $4/1 IPQ=$1.98
2 Vitamin Shampoo BOGO=$6.99 & a MIR for $6.99

Total Value with tax=$138.41
Total Qs & Sales=$133.29
Total spent OOP=$5.12
Used $10 RR from the Dove Deal in the previous transaction so $5.50 RRs left
I'll send for the MIR on the Vitamin Shampoo so delayed OOP is -$1.49

The clerk let through some overage with coupons but she wouldn't let me use my 2nd $4IP Sambucol Q and kept telling me not to buy anything in this transaction that would print a RR. She IS a WAGS expert(she said!)and she said if you pay with a RR, no RRs will print on items in the transaction you pay for with a RR. I thought if I just didn't buy more Dove & pay with the Dove generated RRs I could buy other stuff, like the Colgate or Vaseline. I had a tube of Colgate in this transaction but she took it off and made me buy it separately, as well as 6 more Vaseline Lotions!lol
She was so sweet to me(and did let some overages through), so I just went along with her and bought the toothpaste & lotions separately. ;-)

Transations #3-9

Colgate Max Toothpaste=$3.29 + got $3.50RRs
3 Vaseline Lotion $3.59, 25% off & used $1.25/1Q$1.61 x3=$4.83+ got $6 in RRs
3 Vaseline Lotion $3.59, 25% off & used $1.50/1Q$1.44 x3=$4.32 + got $6 in RRs

Total Value=$26.05
Total Qs & Sales=$13.85
Total spent OOP=$12.20
+ got $15.50 in RRs

All totaled, I spent $28.68OOP + I'll get $6.99 back on a MIR for the shampoo, so $21.69OOP & $21RRs to spend next time.

If you are one of those who add the RRs onto the total spent, this trip was a -$.69...Money Maker!

That's just how we Divas Roll the Savings in PA.

This was a fairly frugal trip and totally COMPACT(for all my fellow compactors). All consumables(teeth, skin, hair, medicine) and a mix of compostable & plastic packaging. I'll have to check if the lotion/shampoo/hair color bottles can be recycled.

Be sure to check out how other Thrifty Divas are saving this week at the "Cents"ible Sawyer DRUGSTORE DIVAS Page.

Mission Accomplished....the Price Chopper Saga

I'm back to report in on my Price Chopper "Triplers Shopping".

Price Chopper in my area had 2 TRIPLERS in their sales circular. You could put a manufacturer's Coupon, with a face value up to $3, with one of these triplers and the store would triple the value of that coupon. I misspoke on Friday morning(see previous post)about the number of TRIPLER Coupons I had. Though I had bought 11 Sunday newspapers(these were only available in the Sunday paper-not in the flyers at the store), 1 of the papers did NOT have a Price Chopper sales flyer, so I only had 20 triplers, not 22 triplers. Oh well....

You could only use TWO Triplers with each order(and it was enforced), so in total I made 10 trips into the store to shop. Actually, the daugher helped me out on Sat. and made 1 trip in, so I only had to make 9 trips.

The challenge was twofold for me.

1-finding coupons with high value($2 or $3)in my stash. Some high value coupons when tripled were way over the item price, so I couldn't use them without losing some of my 'couponage value'.

2-finding coupons that when tripled would give me FREE or ALMOST FREE products to cart home. Price Chopper in these parts, is NOT known for having low prices, so #2 was a bit more difficult that it sounds.

I am working with a self-imposed, very limited food budget this month of $150 too boot, so I couldn't go hog wild with purchases.

This was the game plan going in. But, oh how things can change....

I could have accomplished this mission with a much lower total of 20-30 free products and 10 lbs. of butter for $9.90 + approx. $8 of tax on the toiletry items.

But along the way, I found some very good deals I couldn't pass up. Yes, stores do lure you in with gimmicks like triple coupons and loss leaders in hopes you will spend on the other "not a good deal" items. But I did well overall by resisting the siren song of all those pretty packages with high price tags.

I did find that I am in love with the Dairy manager in this store. He/She is very generous about marking down items weeks and weeks BEFORE their sell by dates come to pass, unlike some stores where they NEVER discount dairy as it gets to the sell by date and just toss it after it hits the date and take a write-off loss on the item.

Here are the pictures of everything I purchased....or the store gave me for FREE.

Thursday Evening's Price Chopper Haul (2 trips)

Friday's Price Chopper Haul (4 Trips)

Saturday's Price Chopper Haul (4 Trips)

With tax, I spent $67.97
The sale prices and coupons used came to $216.61
Total Value of everything I bought was $284.58
A Savings of over 76%!

Here is a breakdown of what was purchased and price

2 lb. Prepared Sweet Potatoes $.69 Dairy Disc.
2 Tropicana O.J. (.49 ea.) $.98 Dairy Disc. + Q
1 Over the Moon 1/2 Gal.Milk $1.29 Dairy Disc. + Q

86 items---$67.97 Out of Pocket

No meat but some pricey cheese, dog food, cereal and toiletries.
The OJ, Cheese, Tortillas, Sour Cream, Yogurt & Sweet Potatoes were all discounted in the dairy section.

By bringing along my spare coupons and finding all those nice Dairy Discounts on products, I was able to combine the two and get some very nice prices on items I can freeze for later. I needed the sour cream and the tortillas to make dinner on friday, so I came prepared to pay *gasp* retail on those items. I put my needs out into the Universe and the coupon fairy heard me & put all those little Dairy Peelies in my path!

I find the price of cold cereal is c-r-a-z-y!....how about you? Anytime I can get boxes of cereals the kids will eat, I am a happy woman. I don't much like getting them the sugary stuff but for a change I wasn't "meany mom" and got them Frosted Cheerios. I am thinking I'll mix it with regular Cheerios to lessen the sugar high.lol

Price Chopper had a deal on assorted GM Cereals this week. With the coupon and a FOUR Box purchase, you paid $8($2 per box). I did that deal twice. The 1st time, I used 4 Qs that doubled(every day store policy up to $1), so those 4 boxes cost me $1 each. I had 2 $1/2 Qs for the 2nd deal, so I combined those with the triplers, making each coupon worth $3. I paid 50 cents for each of those 4 boxes.

The Carnation Instant Breakfast(CIB) is something the daughter likes to have in the morning. It's rather pricey so if I find it for a good price, I stock up. I was bummed out that both the CVS stores around here were cleaned out of their stock of it, because of the ECBs you get this month to purchase CIB there. So when I saw Price Chopper had it $1 off I brought my $1/1Qs to the store. There was also a shelf tag...Get $1.50 OYNO(off your next order)when you purchase two. So during my multiple trips through the checkout, I bought in 2s, & used the Catalinas on every other trip where I didn't buy any CIB.

Yes, it did take longer having to checkout multiple times. Saturday was particularly bad(being the weekend). If I had decided to use these Triplers earlier in the week, the crowds wouldn't have been so bad.
But the extra time spent was well worth the savings. It helped to have a plan of what I wanted to purchase and all my coupons in order beforehand.

Couponing is a beautiful thing!

Next time, a report on my Walgreen's Saturday Siege. ;-)

Off to get me some Free Food!

I don't usually shop at my local Price Chopper Grocery Store. I have to go into 'the city' to get to them(it's a 5 minute ride!) and I find their prices are higher on average than the 2 Grocery Stores in my Teeny Tiny Town.
But they just opened a Brand New Store.....well, the building is new, the store isn't. They moved the PC out of the crime riddled old, dying shopping center by the mall, into a brand new, stand alone building. It was a move of about 1.5 miles.
So they have been running specials and nice store coupons. 2 weeks ago we got a home mailer with FREE coupons for salad dressing, steak sauce, tartar sauce and cheap ground beef, ice cream and something else I can't recall at the moment. It was worth going in that week.
So this week, on the regular sales flyer in the Sunday paper, we had an outer half page with TRIPLE VALUE COUPON Coupons. Meaning, you can put a regular manufacturer's coupons(up to $3 face value)with one of these Tripler Coupons to triple the value of your couple.
Nice, huh?
The caveat is you are limited to $3 of face value on the original coupone AND there is a limit of 2 of these Triplers per 'shopping family'. And you have to use a store loyalty card too.
Having bought 11 Sunday papers, I have 11 shopping trips to make to get 22 Triplers worth of free stuff. And the sale ends Saturday night, so I had better get crackin'!
I've spent an hour this morning pulling high value coupons and checking the PC ad for what's on special, to see what I can score for free.
There are also a few PC store coupons in the ad....99 cents 1lb. butter, $1.99 for 12-packs of Pepsi, 4 boxes of GM Cereals for $8 and some 7-Up deal. The butter doesn't require any additional purchase so I'll be stocking up on 11 lbs. of butter today for $10.89 total too!
And if they allow me to stack store Qs with MQs, I can score some free or almost free GM Cereals too!
I do need to find out about the coupon stacking at this store. I do know that they DO take Internet Printed Coupons, which I am thankful for, as neither of the grocery stores in my Teeny Tiny Town take! One is a major chain and the other is a regional chain. The major chain store has a Corporate website where you can print out Coupons.....but my particular store won't take them!
ARGH.
I really need to write one of my famout Complaint Letters to their Corporate HQ about this insanity.
So I am off to see what I can get. As long as my old legs hold out making all those trips from the parking lot to the store and back, I'll have some goodies to show in the next day or so.
With a $150 food budget this month, I really need to be all about the F-R-E-E!

FEBRUARY $AVING$ CHALLENGE TOTALS

If you look closely at my right sidebar, you will notice that I updated my 60K $aving$ Challenge Totals for February a couple of days ago. I had hoped to just sneak it in and not have to post about it, but alas, I was caught.

Like I mentioned before, this month is NOT pretty!

While I practically Doubled my eBay sales(thanks in part to that nice guy in The Netherlands), the loose change in the house seems to have dried up. Ok, of the two, I'd rather have more eBay sales than change.lol

We ended Feb. with a net Loss of $157.97.

Negative savings.

Not good.

EVER!

I knew mid-month when we received the Bill Trifecta-a 6 month car insurance premium notice, the unexpected auto repair & the bill for the kitchen countertops,
February would be a wash
.

The last 2 items appeared on the MONSTER CREDIT CARD BILL.

Monster to the tune of $2902.85.

The countertops and the auto repair account for $2126.49 of that monster, so in reality, the normal expenditures on it were only $776.36. That includes some online paid bills, most of the gasoline purchases and some Birthdays eating out money. (Dec-Feb. is our Birthday Landmine Field for spending on eating out.)

So if you take off the unusual expenses, we 'could' have had $215.67 left at the end of the month to dump into the SCG.

But we had emergencies. That is why you have Emergency funds....the shock absorbers for buffering those monetary bumps in the road of your money.

Soooo....we deduct that negative $157.97 from our Grand Total Saved & we are down to $3216.67 Saved for the year.

The target goal for 2 months in:$10K.

We are more behinder than last month.

*sigh*

Looking at the bright side....

The credit card statement period closes on March 11th. We currently have $548.39 in purchases on it. If I can keep from buying gasoline for 7 more days, I can have a much lower Mastercard bill to pay this month.

I heart $548.39 bills alot more than $2902.85 bills.

And I have set a $150/250 Low Spend Food Budget for March(See my Food Budget Part II post). That should result in a much lower expenditure for groceries than last month's total of $863.42.

Please help me stick to this March grocery budget.

If you see me in the grocery store with a fist full of coupons and that food lust look in my eyes, throw me in a cart and wheel me out!

Looking on the Not-So-Bright side....

Coming up this month however is the yearly local tax bill and the sewage bill. The sewage bill is hardly a blip on the spending screen but the Tax Bill is significant. Even more reason to keep all other expenditures down. I like to pay it before April 1, as we get a discount if we do. And whenever any governmental entity offers you a discount, TAKE IT!

Always.

Food Budget Part II

Ok, here are my grocery spending totals for Feb. 2009. Please sit down before you read if large sums of money make you queasy.

This Monthly total includes Toiletries/HBAs/Paper Goods/Cleaning Products/Pet Food & Supplies....oh, and food too. We are a family of 5-2 parents & 3 eating machines, er....I mean teenagers(God help me).

Merchandise Value Total: $2524.90
Deduct....
Value of Coupons: $561.89
Store Sales Savings: $758.29
Rewards/Gift Cards/ECB's Used: $118.96
You get.....
Paid Out of Pocket: $1085.76

Savngs Total(Coupons/Sales/Rewards):$1439.14
Average % Saved: 56.9%

Rewards/ECB's Earned: $62.92
Rebates Sent For: $138.43
(ECB's & Gift Cards balance rolled over into next month: $20.99)

Total Cost to me (after rewards earned and rebates): $863.42

I found a Food Plan chart from the USDA that I am going to use to set a monthly food budget. The chart is located Here.
The dollar amounts of the Plans are based on food prices for Dec. 2008, which is the latest month for which the info. is available. There are 4 levels of food spending-Thrifty, Low Cost, Moderate Cost & Liberal. According to this governmental chart, my family should be spending anywhere from $784.30 a Month to eat on the cheap to $1542.40 a Month to dine on steak & caviar.....well, maybe NOT the caviar.
I am all about eating on the cheap but not so cheap that it has questionable nutritional value and/or it tastes bad. Yes, I let the kids eat their share of Pop Tarts and Kraft Mac & Cheese in the box but it's not an everyday thing and they get plenty of 'real' food most of the time. We eat well here and I'm not going to put the family on a ramen noodles and generic hot dog diet to save an extra buck or two.

But I just can't believe we spent that much on food for a month. Granted, I'd guesstimate that about $300-400 of what I spent was stocking up on things we use at incredibly LOW prices so that makes me feel a little better.

I guess I'm just shocked by the current cost of food. I read recently that food on avg. has gone up in price about 9-10% in the past year? Can that be right?!

I remember when husband & I were in college....back when dinosaurs roamed the earth as my kids say, but really it was the early 1980's/late 1970's. The two of us ate, albeit it WAS a meager menu, for $20 a week. Nowadays you can't even eat for 2 days on that! I use to wheel our little grocery handcart up the 6 short blocks to the big A&P on the main thoroughfare bordering the ghetto-esque part of the neighborhood in Baltimore. As starving students, we ate alot of Kraft Mac & Cheese with either hamburger or tuna fish mixed in, hot dogs & beans, hamburgers, pasta with sauce or for a special treat-Lasagna. You could buy a pound of mozzarella cheese for $1.99. Generic Kraft was 8 for $1., a can of tuna was 49 cents, pasta was 20 cents a box & spaghetti sauce was 89 cents a jar & a can of green beans was 29 cents. I'd love to go back to prices like that but not the quality of food it bought.

Except for the price of lobsters. I'd love to go back with my income TODAY to my 1st summer job in Maine in 1980. There was a guy selling lobsters out the back of his pick-up truck in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop. 1980 price for fresh just off the boat lobster in 1980 Maine?.....$2 lb.
To have a spare $20 and a Time Machine right about now.
I would eat myself into a lobster stupor.
Seriously.
In a heartbeat.

Back to the point.
I am going to try to stick to the "low cost" monthly food plan this year, the $1038.70 one.
That will include any stocking up I do too.
For Savings Challenge Goal Challenge purposes, I am going to put a Food Budget Limit of $250 for March however. I want to try to get through March with only buying milk, bread and fresh veggies/fruits, as I plan for us to eat down the pantry this month. I figure $150 and another $100 for any seriously low deals for stockpiling that may pop up later in the month.
Then for April, I'll go to the $1038.70 monthly budget.

So what do YOU spend for food a month at your house?
Do tell!

CVS This Week-Clearance & MIR Finds

I had yet another $10 off $50 coupon to use at CVS. They were out of Beggin' Strips dog treats, J&J First Aid Pads, 7-Up & trial sized cotton rounds or pads AND I forgot my Lindt Truffles coupon at home, but I was able to put together an ok scenario.

And the Renuzit TriScents Kit for $5.49 with 2 Extra Care Bucks that you can use the $4 Sunday paper insert coupon on, was just the Refill kit, not the Refill kit with the Unit that plugs into the wall. That one was $9.99! No point buying the refill kit if you don't have the plug in thing, right?lol
I didn't buy it as I don't use air fresheners anyway, especially ones that require you to use Electricity, as THAT is NOT frugal. I am a COMPACT list devotee & don't buy what I am philosophically at odds with so no Renuzit TriScents for me.

Anyway, here is what I hauled home.....
1 Bag of T-Bonze Dog Treats(also on sale with the Beggin' Strips)$3.50
4 Boxes South Beach Bars $2.50 ea.x 4=$10.00
5 Bags of Stacy's Bagel Chips on Clearance for $1.65 x 5=$8.25
1 Bag Stayfree Pads at $3.89
1 BodiHeat Pads at $3.99 No Peelie Q on it! 8-(
1 Extreme Energy Shots at $4.99 for the oldest son
2 Neutrogena Acne Face Soap Bars at $3.19 ea. x2=$6.38
1 Organix Shampoo on sale for $4.99
2 bags of Valentine Chocolate 75% off $.99 ea. x2=$1.98
3 Valentines grow your own lavender pots 75% off $.37x3=$1.11
2 Shower Relief Tablets on clearance for $1.00 x2=$2.00
Total=$51.08

$2.00 off IP South Beach Bars MQ x4=$8.00
$1.50 off Stacy's Chips MQ x5=$7.50 $2.00 off Stayfree pads CRT Q
$30.50 Total Coupons

Extra Care Bucks used....
$8.00
$4.00
$7.99
$19.99 Total ECBs

Total AFTER coupons & ECBs.....
$51.08-$30.50-$19.99=$.59

$.59 put on CVS Giftcard
No out of pocket.

I received Extra Care Bucks....
$4.99 for the Energy Shots $3.99 for the Bodi Heat Pads
$10/$50 Coupon-another one!
ARGH! I have a love/hate relationship with those....it's nice to get that $10 off but it's a PITA to put together a $50 order, especially when the store is out of stuff or it's a week when there is not much I want/need.

So I have $8.98 in ECBs but I spent $19.99 in ECBs. The Neutrogena bars didn't print the $10 ECBs, darn it. That would have made the trip better but #2 son can use the bars since he's a newly minted teen and is experiencing the Joys of Acne now....lol

I also have a Mail In Rebate for the Organix Shampoo so I'll be getting $4.99 cash back too.
This is something to look for in the CVS....TRY ME FREE MIR Tags on the Organix and Vitamin brands of hair products, PLUS they are on sale this week(see my previous post on the blog about this).

It pays to just look around the store too. That's how I found the Stacy's clearance and I just happened to have my coupons for those in my purse! 15 cents per bag for bagel chips?......I'll take it! Woohoo!!

Check out how other Thrifty Divas are saving this week at the "Cents"ible Sawyer CVS SUPERSTARS Page.
Please leave me a comment if you get the chance. I appreciate all ya'll who read my Boring Blog.
