What I Did That was Frugal Last Week--Addendum

And here is something I forgot to list as a frugal accomplishment last week.

On Monday afternoon, the evening of which we were going to K-Mart to pick up our almost half price recliners, I saw a FREE PHOTOS Coupon Code for Walgreens that was only valid that day on their website.

I quick went online to the Walgreens site, uploaded a digital photo and put in the coupon code and voila!.....I got 25 free 4x6 photos.
Picked them up before we went to K-Mart that evening as there's a Wags less than a mile away from the Big K....so can I count combining 2 errands into one trip too as a frugal accomplishment? lolz

And now I have lovely photos to enclose in most of the Christmas cards I am sending out.

But while I was walking through Wags to get to the Photo counter I saw a display of DUCK DYNASTY items.
Uh oh......
How I ever lived without a DD Garden Gnome to this point in my life is beyond me!
At least I wasn't tempted by an Uncle Si Chia Pet....

Expiring RRs So It was Off to WAGS this Week

I had Register Rewards expiring on Wednesday so I stopped into WAGS to see about rolling them.
I wandered up and down the aisles and not much interested me that would have let me roll the RRs.
Hubby drinks instant coffee on occasion and we had less than half a jar left and NONE in the stockpile.  The Maxwell House was part of a Nabisco/Kraft Deal ($5RR WYB $20) plus I had some decent cookie Qs.  I had wanted to get some Nut*rition nuts(lurv the cashew/almond/macadamia combo!)but they were wiped out.....as usual! ugh

I finally settled on the following....

1 x Glade Sense & Spray=$5.99
3 x Dental Floss/Toothbrush/Pocket Packs=$9.00
4 x assorted Nabisco Cookies on sale($2.50)=$10.00 *need these like a hole in my head!*
3 x Maxwell House Instant Coffee on sale($3.99)=$11.97
SubTotal....$36.96

Coupons Used
1 x $4/1 Glade Sense & Spray ManuQ=$4.00
1 x $2/1 Glade Sense & Spray WAGS booklet Q=$2.00
3 x $1/1 assorted Floss/Toothbrush/Pocket Packs ManuQs=$3.00
1 x $5.01/3 WAGS flyer Q=$5.01
1 x $1/2 Nabisco Cookies Home Mailer Q=$1.00
1 x $1/1 Oreo Cakesters IPQ=$1.00
1 x FREE Cookies Home Mailer Q=$2.50
Coupon Total....$18.51

RRs Used
$4 P&G
$4 P&G
$2 Goody?
RR Total....$10.00

$36.96-$28.51=$8.45+$.32tax=$8.77 OOP
Received $5RR for buying $20 or more of Nabisco/Kraft items(4 cookies/3 coffee).

So I rolled it a bit.  The Sense & Spray was free(plus 1¢ overage) and after coupons, the 3 dental items were a total of .99¢ for all.

Between the WAGS here being wiped out of all the good deals by 1am(they are a 24/7 store)on Sunday morning, the 'deals' there usually not being something I want/need and the RRs expiring every 2 weeks(or less sometimes), I won't be shedding a tear when I have used this last $5 one up.

I don't know......
I seem to be doing my Ray Charles impersonation and singing, "The thrill is gone!" lately.  ;-)

Rolling Register Rewards at WAGS....2/24

Since we were expecting a long Snow 'Event' Thursday and Friday here in PA, I hopped up to WAGS Wednesday evening to roll some RRs that were expiring on Friday.
Just in case I couldn't make it out in time.

I bought this.....
4 x Hershey's Pieces Candy Bags on sale $2.50=$10.00
1 x Gillette Fusion Razor on sale=$8.99
2 x Crest Toothpaste $2.69=$5.38
2 x Right Guard Deo on sale BOGO=$2.99
1 x Goody Hairbands=$2.99
1 x Duracell Batteries 8pk. on sale=$5.99
3 x Hydrogen Peroxide $.99=$2.97
SubTotal....$39.31

Coupons Used
4 x $1/1 Hershey's Pieces Candy Bags ManuQ=$4.00
1 x $41 Gillette Fusion Razor ManuQ=$4.00
1 x $1/2 Crest Toothpaste ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $2/2 Right Guard Deo IPQ=$2.00
1 x $1/1 Duracell Batteries ManuQ=$1.00
1 x WAGS In-Ad Q Hydrogen Peroxide =$1.97
2 x WAGS Feb. Booklet $1.50/1 Crest TPaste Q=$3.00
Coupons Total....$16.97

RRs Used
1 x $10(Joint Juice)
1 x $3(Schick Razor)
1 x $2(Poligrip)
1 x $2(Lypsyl)
RRs Total....$17.00

$39.31-$16.97=$22.34-$17.00=$5.34+$1.26 tax=$6.60 OOP
I hadn't planned on getting the Batteries but daughter needed them for her calculator to take the SATs in 2 weeks.  Without the batteries, I would have been OOP $1.31.

I received RRs totaling $11 for this transaction....$5 for the Hershey's Candy, $4 for the Razor & $2 for the HairBands.  I spent $17 in RRs.
The purchase of the Hershey's candy also triggered a ManuQ for $1/1 off a bag of M&Ms.  This doesn't expire until 4/21/10 so it might mean cheap M&Ms when the Easter candy goes on clearance.

I still had a $1 RR to roll so I bought.....

2 x Hydrogen Peroxide $.99=$1.98
1 x Gillette Razor on sale=$8.99
1 x Candy Bar=$.69
SubTotal....$11.66

Coupons Used

1 x $41 Gillette Fusion Razor ManuQ=$4.00
1 x WAGS In-Ad Q Hydrogen Peroxide=$1.31
Coupon Total....$5.31

Register Rewards Used
1 x $1(old RR)
1 x $5(new from Pieces Candy Bags)
RRs Total....$6.00

$11.66-$5.31=$6.35-$6.00=$.35+$.54 tax=$.89 OOP

I received RRs totaling $4 for the Gillette Razor.  I spent $6 in RRs.
I now have $10 in RRs to roll within 2 weeks.  Let's hope there are some good things I can use with RRs attached offered at WAGS in those 2 weeks.

Though the Peroxide was a bit more than the cheapest filler items I could have added to my orders in order to use all my coupons and register rewards, I'd rather spend a little more and get something I can use than some junkie thing.  I love to use Peroxide for cleaning and in the laundry!

Today's Post is Brought to You by the Letter "W"....Walmart & Walgreen's

I had those internet printed Sara Lee $2 off a package of deli meat coupons expiring.  I've priced this product at all the grocery stores I frequent over the last 2 weeks and none of them would allow me to buy this item after using the coupon for less then $3.50!   So I broke down and hoofed over on a RARE trip to Walmart to see how I could make out on Tuesday....of course, I brought along other coupons just in case I found any other deals there.

WALMART
2 x Welch's Sparkling Grape Juice $2.97=$5.94
4 x Sara Lee Lunchmeat  $3.98=$15.92
1 x Sara Lee Bagels=$2.88
1 x Sara Lee Rolls=$2.27
1 x Progresso Panko Crumbs=$1.86
1 x Morton's Kosher Salt=$1.58
1 x 1 Gal. Milk=$3.16 *not pictured*
SubTotal=$33.61

Coupons Used
2 x $2/1 Welch's Sparkling Grape Juice IP Q=$4.00
4 x $2/1 Sara Lee Deli Lunchmeat IP Q=$8.00
2 x $2/1 Bread Product WYB 2 Sara Lee Deli Lunchmeat Tearpad Q=$4.00
1 x $1.10/1 Progresso Bread Crumb Product IP Q=$1.10
Coupons Total=$17.10

$33.61-$17.10+$.36 tax=$16.87 OOP
**Actual OOP was  $15.87, because the cashier somehow took off an extra $1 somewhere.
The Deli Meat was a good price with the $2 Qs but I found a tearpad at Weis last week(over on the gourmet cheese case)with $2 OFF Sara Lee Bread products WYB 2 Sara Lee Packaged Deli Meats.
So I got bread for $.27 and Bagels for $.88.

I hit Walgreen's also on Tuesday as I had RRs expiring....

WALGREEN'S
3 x Ocean Spray 100% Juice on sale $1.99=$5.97
1 x Honey on sale $3.99=$3.99
1 x Sunsweet Apricots on sale $2.00=$2.00
1 x Walgreen's OraGel=$5.99 *not pictured*(Was slathering this on my tooth for relief from the pain until Friday)
SubTotal=$17.95

Coupons
3 x Wags Booklet $1 off Ocean Spray=$3.00
1 x $6 RR
1 x $8 RR
Coupons total=$17.00

$17.95-$17.00=$.95 OOP
Finding Peelie Qs on the Juice(like others have reported)would have been even more awesome but it didn't happen at this store.

I forgot something so I went back in and I got this....

3 x Kleenex reg. $2.59=$7.77
Used Wags Flyer Q $1.09(deducts $1.50 per box)=$4.50 off
$7.77-$4.50=$3.27

Then I used the $1 off Q in the Wags Savings Booklet in the store.
$3.27-$3=$.27 OOP

The cashier didn't say BOO about using both Qs on the Kleenex.  I didn't go back for more since I wasn't feeling well.  I figure with all the Facial Tissue I have already(after all the FREE Marcal Small Steps ones AND the Acme Kleenex from that week), I can donate a bunch or share with BIL and I am still set until Spring.

OOP for the day...$17.09
Value of Items....$59.33
Savings of 71.20%

I am all out of Register Rewards at this point.  It's sort of a relief not to have the pressure of having to find stuff to buy that I can use to roll them right now.  I find it difficult to keep track and juggle the CVS, Wags and Rite-Aid "Games" all at the same time.  I'm going to have to do a bit of pondering on how to handle this in the future.

Do you play all 3 of the Drugstore Games?  How do you manage it?  Any tips for the rest of us?  Please leave a comment or five on the post! 8-)

Saturday's Shopping....a little good, a little bad, alot of savings

I ran out Saturday to do errands and got a good bit of shopping done.

First to Rite-Aid.  I hadn't been in to do the rest of the week's FAR items yet.

2 x Cornflakes BOGO =$4.49
1 x Single Pop-Tart Pack=$.79
1 x Eos Lip Balm=$1.99
1 x Chloraseptic Sore Throat Strips=$4.49
1 x Little Allergies Allergen Block=$9.99
SubTotal=$21.75

Coupons Used
1 x $5 off $20 Rite-Aid Q(from watching AdPerks videos)
1 x $5 any Kellogg's purchase at Rite-Aid(from a previous month's SCR deals)
Coupons Total  $10.00

$21.75-$10=$11.75+.12tax=$11.87 OOP

Will receive $16.47 back from SCRebates(Little Allergies/Eos/Chloraspetic), making this trip a $4.60 Moneymaker!

None of the Rite-Aids around here had the FAR Blink Tears last week.  This was an item I had a $3 Q for so it would have given me a $3 overage on this 1 item.
They also ran out of the Sambucol Lozenges before I got a chance to use my $3 Q on that, so I missed out on adding $6 overage onto my SCR total for October. Ugh

Then I stopped at another Rite-Aid to pick up a few more FAR things on BIL's tab.

1 x NeilMed Nasal Mist  =$9.99
1 x Coldcalm Children's=$7.99
1 x Zucol Tablets=$5.99
SubTotal=$23.97

Coupons Used
$5 off $20 Rite-Aid Q(from watching AdPerks videos)
$2/1 NeilMed
$1/1 Coldcalm
Coupon Total=$8.00

$23.97-$8=$15.97 OOP

I will receive $23.97 back in SCRs.
**WRONG**
I will receive $15.98 back in SCRs!  Why?  Because I already bought the Coldcalm/Chestal stuff on a receipt I have to submit for BIL and not for me, because of the other stuff I bought on that receipt.
This is what happens when you are working 2 different Rebate names/addresses and you get mixed up and buy the wrong thing on the wrong receipt.  LOLOL  So I "stupided" myself out of $7.99 in rebates....ok, make that $6.99 in rebates because I got $1 off of the purchase using the coupon.

So in the end, I spent $15.97 OOP and I'll get SCRs of $15.98 back, so I "made" .01¢ on these items.lolololol

That's ok, I'll be able to send for the NeilMed rebate on the nasal mist thing, so I'll make up a buck or two there.

Then I ran to  Walgreen's because I had $14 in expiring RRs.  I did the following....

Transaction #1
2 x Benefiber(for hubby)@$10=$20
2 x Gas-X @$5=$10
2 x Tuna Fish@$.55=$1.10 *substituted the "good" tuna b/c they were out of the cheap stuff*

I received NO RRs for this transaction.
And I still had a $3RR to roll, so I did this...

$4/1 Razor=$4.00

RRs Used=$25
RRs Received=$25
RRs left=$14

Then it was off to CVS for a Free After ECBs Glade Candle and some Halloween Candy and using expiring ECBs.

1 x Glade Candle on sale $6.99
2 x Nestle Chocolate Candy Bars Bag $6.99=$13.98
2 x Willy Wonka Candy Bag $5.99=$11.98
SubTotal=$32.95

Coupons Used
1 x $5 off $25 CVS Purchase Q(from the flu shot video)=$5.00
1 x $3/1 Glade Candle=$3.00
2 x $2/1 Nestle Candy=$4.00
2 x $2/1 Wonka Candy=$4.00
$10 in ECBs=$10.00
Coupon Total=$26.00

$32.95-$26=$6.95+$.12tax=$7.07 OOP  put on CVS Gift Card
I received $11.95 in ECBs($5 for buying $20 or more of Halloween candy/$6.99 for the Glade Candle).
Value of items=$35.95

You may have noticed that there is NO CANDLE in the photo above.
That's because the cashier didn't put the candle in my bag!
The bags were so heavy from the huge candy bars that I didn't even notice there was no candle in one of the bags until TODAY, when I went out to the car to retrieve the bags and photo and put the stuff away!
ARGH!!
So I called the store manager a bit ago and if I take my receipt in and ask for him I can go get my candle.  Seems nobody put the candle aside(as far as he knows) or told him there was a candle that a customer didn't  get.  I have a feeling that my cashier took herself home a free candle on me that night!

I finished up my shopping trip at KMart, to pick up the last 2 packs of Kool-Aid Jammers for the Kraft Back-to-School rebate.  I bought a pair of pants on clearance for $1.99 with the $4 I spent on Kool-Aid for a total of $5.99.  I used one of my $5 off OYNO KMart Qs I received for buying the Clorox products earlier in the week.  I spent OOP $.99 on that Transaction.

Then I went back into KMart and bought 6 Canisters of Clorox Wipes...$2.99 ea. x 6=$17.94+.78tax=$18.72.
I used 2 B2G1 Free coupons and the other $5 OYNO KMart Q(from the earlier Clorox purchase that week), for a total of $10.98 in Coupons.
My total OOP was $7.74 for the Clorox which I put on a KMart GiftCard so zero money spent.
Then the 2 $5 OYNO Qs didn't print!  The one that spits out after the register tape did but the Cat machine one didn't.
Bleh!

Saturday was a mixed bag of the good with the bad in couponing.

Beginning Walgreen's Scenario...Under $5 OOP, Get $5RRs + 4 Products

If you are starting from $0 in RRs this week at Walgreens, use this Scenario to get started.
In the end of it, you will be OOP $4.53(+any applicable tax)& have $5(a $2RR & a $3RR) in RegisterRewards to spend.

*Step One
Buy 1 Hall's Throat Drops on sale $1.00
Use the .75/1 Q from sunday's paper.
Pay $.25.
Receive a $1RR(Hall's is a Cadbury/Ames company.)

*Step Two
Buy 1 Herbal Essences Shampoo on sale $2.99.
Use the $1/1 Q from sunday's paper(a few weeks ago).
Buy a small filler item.(I use Ramen Noodles for .29¢ unless something else is cheaper.)
Pay with your $1RR(Cadbury/Ames)& $1.28 cash Out Of Pocket.
Receive a $2RR(Herbal Essence is a P&G company.).

*Step Three
Buy an Oral B Toothbrush on sale $3.00. (If you have a coupon for this item, less OOP for you!)
Pay $3 cash Out of Pocket.(If you use your $2RR from the Herbal Essence, the Catalina won't generate a new RR for your Toothbrush because Oral B is also a P&G company. BE CAREFUL!)
Receive a $3RR(Oral B is a P&G company.).

You are now Out of Pocket $4.53+any applicable tax.
You have $5 in RRs($2&$3).
You have 3 products & 1 Ramen Noodles(or other filler item).

**Now you can take that $5 in RRs and do the Scenario I have listed HERE. The only addition you will have to make to that Scenario is in Step One, add a 2nd pack of Ramen Noodles or small filler item.
(You must have 1 item for each coupon you use. You can't use more coupons than the number of items in your order.  RRs count as a coupon. Since you will be using 2 RRs to pay instead of 1 RR, you need an extra item in your order.)  This will raise your total Out of Pocket for that Scenario from $1.30 to $1.59+ any applicable tax.

How to get a Desk Lamp for $1.97 & Other Shopping Deals Yesterday

So after reading about all the FREE DOG FOOD "I'm So Pretty I Fart Fairy Dust" has posted about, I got my rear end out of the house and went up to Target.

Target and I have some bad history together.  I'm not overly fond of the chain and my only local store hires cashiers and then doesn't train them well.
I put all that aside(because of the visions of FREE DOG FOOD)and armed with my coupons and a copy of the coupon policy print-out I marched into Target yesterday morning.

Was happily picking products up, deposting them into my cart and putting the corresponding coupons into my pocket.
Palmolive Dish Soap @$1.49...check!
2 x Purell Sanitizer @$1.37....check!
Cinnabon Pastries @$2....check!
2 x Chef Michaels Dry Dog Food @$4.26....che.....hey!....WTH?
I had left an envie of coupons in the car, among them all the dog food coupons and the kashi coupons.
ARGH!
So, the dog food goes back on the shelf and I check out with my 4 other items.
 $6.23-$4 in coupons($1/1 for each item bought)=$2.23+.07¢ tax=$2.30OOP
Paid cash, forgetting to use my prepaid Visa from the Staples rebate-doh!- and out to the car for the rest of the coupons.

Back into the store--

more Palmolive Dish Soap @$1.49...check! ($1/1 Q)
more Purell Sanitizer @$1.37...check! ($1/1 Q x 2)
more Cinnabon Pastries  @$2...check! ($1/1 Q)
1 x Dawn Foam Dish Soap @$2.29...check! ($1.50/1 Q)
2 x Chef Michaels Can Food @.84....check! (Target BOGO Q + Manu. BOGO Q)
2 x Chef Michaels Dry Food @$4.26...check! (Target $1.50/1 Q + Manu. $3/1 Q x 2)

Coupons Used...$32.97
$44.69-$32.97=$11.72+.05¢tax=$11.77

Actual total on the receipt was $8.85 with tax.

***This is part of why I hate Target.  The way they figure things is squirrely.  You can never decipher the register receipt and I am convinced that they have things keyed in so that you always end up paying MORE than you are suppose to.  IE: Squirrely=the dog food...1 bag they took off $1 for the Target $1.50 Q and the other bad they took off $1.00. even though both coupons were for $1.50 off.  One of the Manu Q for $3 they listed under the item on the receipt, the other $3 Q was way down on the bottom of the receipt & under the item up top they marked off $4.26 for the bag for a Manu. Q right under the item, so it looks like I paid $6.02 for the 2 bags and they took off $10.26 on that sale.
HUH?  OK, so this example they undercharged me, but usually I end up paying more according to their computations.
Then the 2 small cans of dog food(which I had 2 BOGO Qs for-a target & a Manu stacked-so it should have been free), it looks like they charged me for 1 can.  Nothing adds up correctly no matter how you try to decipher it.***

Anyway, back to our story....
I hand the stack of coupons to the cashier & prepared myself for battle....
but he just scanned them all, not a word when there were a target & manufacture's Q stacked, not a look when something beeped and needed to be adjusted, nada.
Target says my total came to $8.85.  Not being a mathematician with a PhD, I don't argue the point, as it's lower than it should be.lol

I handed over my $5 Gift Card from the Quaker Granola Bars deal of a few weeks back and got a new $5 Gift Card for the Kashi items bought.
Then I slid my Staples preloaded Debit Card from a rebate on paper bought in July and paid my balance of $3.85.

Zero out of pocket and a $5 GC to use next time.
Plus the Palmolive Dish Soap has a Try Me Free Rebate so I'll get $1.49 of what I spent back & if SIL hasn't already, I can send for a TMF Rebate for her too for the 1st receipt.

Then it was to CVS to get a prescription transferred so I could get a $25 Gift Card for the CRT offer I got a few weeks back on my receipt.
Had to roll some ECBs expiring on 9/17 while I was there....

Bleh. Lost $5.98 in ECBs buying TP & Candy Corn.  Fitting, no?lol

When I was walking from the back after paying for my prescription & getting my new $25 GC, I noticed some clearance items at the far end of the Halloween candy display.  The sign said 25% off and there was a gooseneck desk lamp sitting there.  As #2 son just moved into his brother's room, he now needs a desk lamp for the desk in there.  So I looked it over and couldn't find a price.  I hauled it upfront to the register and had the cashier price check it for me.  She said, "It's $3.74".
Huh??  You mean 3 DOLLARS and 74 CENTS...right?
"Yah, that's what I said."
"I'll take it!"
The lamp is not fancy but it looks sturdy and is just the thing he needs.
And for $3.97(with tax), you KNOW I'm all over that!!  8-))
Turns out, it's got one of those energy saving globe lightbulbs included and it's suppose to last for 9 Years. (And you'll realize an energy savings of $47 over that time according to the box.)
But what makes this desk lamp all the more sweet to me is the little sticker on the box.....

Yep, that's a MIR for $2.00.  My little lamp will end up costing me ZERO OOP & I'll get a $2 check for buying it.  I put the $3.97 on a Gift Card(.97¢ left on the old GC and $3 on the one I just got at the Pharmacy)& I'll get a check for $2 for the Rebate.

So when the 2 $5RRs popped out I thought, Great!....the Nighttime Triaminic IS giving double RRs.

One was a Novartis generatedRR(the Triaminic)& the other was a Reckitt Benckiser RR.  Not sure what this means.

So I went back for some more Triaminic.
But they only had the Strips left in the Nighttime....

Ok, so this time only 1 $5RR comes out.  Now I am really scratching my head!lol

The CAT machine made a little noise after the 1st RR appeared, a bad "I think I'll jam now & stop working" noise.  Now I had to figure out whether I needed to make a scene and have the machine looked at or just let it go.  As I'm not sure if the Triaminic was suppose to give 2 Cats from 2 different companies and I was so tired and had to pick up kids at school, I just let it go.

I know.....so NOT like me!lolol
So I'll have to settle for a $9 moneymaker instead of a $14 moneymaker on the Triaminic.

In the end, I 'spent' $21.10.

OOP cash spent was $4.25.  The rest was paid with assorted Gift Cards/Prepaid Visa.

I used $13.98 in ECBs/gained $8 for a total loss of $5.98ECBs.
I used $12 in RRs/gained $15 for a total gain of $$3RRs.
Will receive $3.49 in checks($1.49 & $2.00 for Palmolive & Lamp MIRs).
Got a new Target $5 Giftcard & have $22 left on my new CVS Giftcard as well.

Walgreen's Convoluted Scenario, Spend $6.19 Get $8.50RRs & Lots of STUFF

So I am up Waaaaaaay too late this evening, er....morning. Can't shut the mind off for some reason, so why not give it a work out, right?

I was just perusing the upcoming WAGS RR deals for Sunday....
  • Gum Toothbrush (2 pack) $3.49, use $1 coupon (6/21 RP) and get back $3.49 RR = $1 profit
  • Suave Deodorant (2.6 or 6 oz) 25% off sale so $1.41 each ($1.89 regular price), buy 4 and get back $2 RR, buy 6 and get back $6 RR or buy 8 and get back $10 RR. Buy six and use six $0.50 coupons (5/17 RP) = $5.46 and get back $6 RR = $0.54 profit. Buy eight and use eight $0.50 coupons (5/17 RP) = $7.28 and get back $10 RR = $2.72 profit
  • Vitamin Sham/Cond (13 oz) $3.99, get back $3.99 RR = FREE *Look for bottles with a Try Me Free rebate on them = $3.99 profit
  • Spend $10, get back $5 RR. Includes Cheez Its (7.5 or 9oz) $2, Keebler Cookies (11.5 or 15 oz) $2, Cheez Its (4.5 oz) or Keebler Cookies (5.25 - 6 oz) $1, Rice Krispies Treats $2, Pop Tarts $2, Club Crackers/Sandies Pecan Shortbread $2.50, Fiber Plus Bars $2.50, Nutri-Grain Bars $2.50 and Special K Protein Bars or Shakes $5
Here is what I came up with for a scenario....try to stay with me, it's long.lol Follow the steps, don't skip any!

You will need 3 $1/1Gum Qs, 6 $1/2 Suave Deo Qs, 2 $1/2 PopTart Qs. (You can use 12 $.50/1 Suave Deo Qs but you'll need to buy a cheap filler 2 times in this scenario.)

*Buy the Gum Toothbrush for $3.49, use a $1/1 Q & Pay $2.49OOP, Get a $3.49RR(this will probably print as a $3.50RR)

*Buy a Vitamin Poo for $3.99, use the $3.50RR & Pay $.49OOP, Get a $3.99RR(this will probably print as a $4RR).

*Buy 6 Suave Deos for $8.46-3x$1/2Qs=$5.46, use $4RR & Pay $1.46OOP, Get a $6RR.

*Buy 1 Gum Tbrush & 1 Vitamin Poo for $7.48, use $1/1Gum Q=$6.48, use $6RR & Pay $.48OOP, Get a $4RR & a $3.50RR.

*Buy 8 Suave Deos for $11.28, use 3 $1/2Qs(11.28-3=$8.28), use both $4RR & $3.50RR & Pay $.78OOP, Get a $10RR.

*Buy 1 Gum Tbrush, 5 Pop Tarts($3.49+$10=13.49), use 2x $1/2 PTarts Q & $1/1 Gum Q(13.49-3=$10.49), use $10RR & Pay $.49OOP, Get $8.50RRs(3.50 & 5)

You now have....
14 Suave Deos
3 Gum Toothbrushes
2 Vitamin Poo
5 boxes Pop Tarts
That's $48.19 worth of products.
$8.50 in RRs($3.50/$5)
And you've spent $6.19 not including state sales tax & used 11 Qs.

Not exactly free(unless you count the RRs you now have)but pretty good.

What will you do with 14 Deodorants?
Hey, that's YOUR problem!lol

So can you come up with a better scenario? Let me know!

CAT JAM FEVER at Wags, got Paid 11 cents to Shop

I had some CAT JAM FEVER today at Walgreens!
No, it's NOT a new Ted Nugent song parody(but it probably could be!lol).
And it's NOT a new Food Network Celeb's Food Product(though it would make a great name for a new Bobby Flay inspired hot sauce).
But it IS totally descriptive of my outing to Wags today.
Read on.....

So I had my scenarios all written down to roll my RRs for the week today. Got to the store and surpise, surprise!.....they had ALL the RR generating items in stock.

I get through the 1st Transaction, and then as the Cat machine is spitting out my 5 RRs for my 2nd Transaction it J-A-M-S mid Cat!

ARGH!!!

Why.

Me??

The paper jammed and the machine starts beeping and blinking and making some gosh awful noise like a gerbil is stuck in the gears of the thing.

Good grief!

The cashier is opening the front, fixing the paper, closing the front, then opening the back and sticking her hand in there playing with some wires. I am having visions of her electrocuting herself over some catalinas and the paramedics rushing in to carry her off in an ambulance.

But she somehow RESET the thing.

It stopped beeping.

It stopped blinking.

And it stopped printing the rest of my Cats as it had reset and now had no memory of my Cats.

UGH.

So I got the 1st Cat and 1/4 of the 2nd one.

She calls the Manager.

The manager doesn't want to come up front because he just got a delivery in the back & is busy with that. He asks the cashier which Cats I need and she tries to tell him.

About 5 mins. later another employee comes up front with 3 papers & has the cashier give them to me. It's the dreaded forms to mail to the Cat company for your RRs that don't print. Of course, he should have brought FOUR forms, not three. I've got the Calcium D Cat, but need my Colgate $1.50RR, my Speed Stick $1RR, my Reach $3RR & my Tropicana $1RR. The forms he gave me where for the Edge Gel RR, the Colgate RR & a J&J RR(Reach is J&J but the RR amount is wrong). So I tell the cashier the forms are wrong or missing and she calls the Manager again.

Another 10 mins. go by and he finally shows up. I explain that I would have been more than happy to submit the forms(well, I lied...I HATE those forms!lol)but they were wrong or missing except for 1 AND 2 of them were NOT valid after today(had to be postmarked today 5/27!, even though the RR deals are active until Sat.)!)& there was no way I could get them in the mail today.

He looked at my receipt and gave the items I had bought the once over. Then he tried to tell me that my RRs didn't print because I used Coupons to buy them.

Oh, if I only had $1 for every time I've heard that lie!LOLOL

Don't these people understand that we all KNOW this is false by now?!?!

Geez.....they just keep trying this same old line on us, don't they?

So I came back at him, confidently, that I KNOW that isn't why they didn't print. The machine was in mid-print when it jammed, so it WAS trying to print RR #2 and would have printed the other 3 had it not jammed. My item count was 2 over my coupon count INCLUDING the RRs I used to pay. No RRs used in payment were from the same company as the items I purchased. I then pulled out a duplicate set of coupons like I had just used and said, "I can prove this snafu was NOT an error on my part by rebuying all the items on this receipt and using this identical set of coupons like I just used. I'll guarantee this other Cat machine at this register will print 5 RRs for $9,$3, $1.50 & 2x $1s. like it was trying to do over there before the machine jammed."

That seemed to satisfy him that I wasn't just some greenhorn couponer he could bluff. ;-)

Usually, like when the machine was broken 2 trips back, they just rering everything and print the RRs. Mr. "I'm too busy" just grabbed some already used RRs from the other register that equaled what they owed me and gave them to me.

As long as I got what was due me, that was fine.

Of course, I didn't look closely at the RRs he gave until I got home, so I didn't notice that 1 of them expires this Sat.

Ugh.

Usually you have 2 weeks to use them or lose them. I have 3 days to use this one. grrrrr

Then I went and bought the same items from Transaction #2 again and guess what??.....all 5 RRs printed! Amazing......lol

The last 3 Transactions went smoothly. The whole process should have taken 1/2 hr. or less but because of the Cat jam snafu, I was in the store twice as long as I should have been.

I won't do a Play-by-Play Breakdown as it's late.

On my last Transaction, the register wouldn't take my Cutter's Repellant Q for $2.....might have been because I bought a double pack of sprays that was on sale and not a single bottle. Instead of pressing the point, I told her to take that item off my bill and I'll not use that coupon.....I could live without some bug spray today. She had already imputed my RRs as payment, so the total was -$2.98, meaning I had paid $2.98 over what was due.

So she refunded that amount back onto my Gift Card, which was fine by me. The Gift Card $ doesn't expire in 2 weeks like a RR.lol

I just figured out my total OOP for these 6 Transactions and the first 5 came to $2.89. Then they owed ME $2.98, so I bought everything today and they paid me .11¢!

Grand Totals.....

Value of Items $164.48

Out of Pocket Negative $.11

Is 100.06% Savings possible??LOL

RRs Used $87RR

RRs Received $60.50RR

It should have been $61RRs as Mr. Manager gipped me out of .50RR. I can live with that though.

I did burn some RRs today. #1 son wanted some acne soap & they had some good stuff on sale, etc. I've got so many RRs I didn't mind burning through some, especially since next week I'll be getting free Ecotrin RRs with those $2 Qs I have.lol

So here is what I got.....

6 Colgate Toothpaste
9 Reach Toothbrushes
3 Reach Dental Floss
1 Listerine
5 Speed Stick Deo
3 Calcium D Supplements
2 Kraft Deluxe Mac & Cheez
2 Chicken Broth
1 Mayo
2 Tropicana O.J.(NOT PICTURED)
2 PanOxyl Acne Soap
1 Wags Freezer Bags clearanced

All this and they paid me .11¢

They should have paid me $50 for the aggravation.lol

Walgreens Again....The Colgate Merry-Go-Round

You may remember my Walgreens post from earlier this week located Here, where I was fretting about buying the Colgate Visible White Toothpaste this week, since alot of RRs I was trying to roll from last week were $4.50RRs generated from a Colgate product back then.
Oh, how silly was I to worry about that!

Daughter needed to get out to purchase a Top-Up Card for her cell phone and the ONLY place she wishes to buy them is at WAGS, so I said, "Sure honey! I'll selflessly drive you over there to get your card.", as I rubbed my hands together with gleeful anticipation of some WAGS RR fun ahead.

I had read last night online at http://www.iheartwags.com/ that the $4.50RR generated by the Colgate Visible White Toothpaste was truly ROLLING! So I planned to test it out in my local store.
My first pass through the register line and I had a Visible White Tpaste, a Right Guard Clinical Deo. & some filler Royal Gelatin boxes, so I could use 3 RRs-the $4.50 I got earlier in the week from buying the Visible White and a couple of $2RRs I wanted to roll.
I handed her the RRs after she rang up my 2 Qs and after looking at the $4.50RR, she said, "You CAN'T use this one!"
I said, "Why not?"
"Well, if you use it to buy this toothpaste, you won't get a RR back because it's a Colgate product.", she told me.
"That's ok....just use it.", I said, waving my hand like I didn't care. hehehe
"Ok, but don't say I didn't warn you!", she added.
She hits the button, the cash drawer opens up and the Cat machine starts spitting out 1 RR(for the Right Guard)and then #2 RR(for the Visible White).
YESSSS!!!
The cashier's mouth dropped open and she just looked at me...."How did you do that?!?", said she.
I played dumb...."Gee, I don't know."
"You weren't suppose to get a RR. That never happened before. Maybe they changed the rules or sumthin....", she said, shaking her head.
I just smiled and went back to grab another tube of toothpaste and box of gelatin.
And each time I went to check-out with my toothpaste, gelatin, $4.50RR and .24¢, I got another $4.50RR. And the cashier just got more and more perplexed.
About the 6th pass through the line, I told her I saw online that for some reason, this product was spitting out RRs even when you used the same RR to pay.
She digested this information and then said, "Ok....but don't tell anyone working here. I get off in about an hour and I'm going to go get me some free toothpaste too!"
I leaned in and whispered, "Gotcha! I'll be sure and leave some boxes of it on the shelf for ya too."
And we laughed and shared a special moment..... ;-)
So what do you think? Did I get enough?

I also bought daughter a Frappaccino that isn't pictured. I didn't want too many but I only had bought 2 earlier in the week. Daughter urged me on too because she's getting her braces off next month and has this fear that she'll have stains on her teeth. She thinks she'll be needing this toothpaste to whiten them once the braces are off.

I'm too tired from today's excursions(including 2 trips to Price Chopper for more Unilever goodies)so I'll skip the 9 transaction breakdowns and just say that I spent a total of $2.43 on a Gift Card and got a $61.69 Value of Items, giving me a 96% Savings at Wags today.

All Roads Lead to Walgreen's...at least they did today

I have been going stir-crazy being grounded at home! My car is STILL in the shop thanks to my daughter's accident with the awning support pole at CVS the end of April.

We turned in the rental car early as it was just getting ridiculously expensive to keep it, so I've been without wheels for about a week now.

I finally bribed #1 son to drive me to WAGS today because I had RRs expiring on the 21st and Dr. Scholl's Qs to use before the month ends and we just can't have that now, can we?lolol

I had printed out some of the $5/25 coupon good today and tomorrow at WAGS but only used one. Why pay OOP actual CASH for things when I have all these lovely little RRs to spend! So after using 1 of the coupons I had printed off, I gave them to people in line around me. One woman I gave a Q to broke her $50+ order up so she could go back through the line to use another Q.....now THAT woman has potential to be a great Hound!LOLOL

Received $10 Dr. Scholl's, $4 Bandaids, $2.50 Bayer, $4.50 Colgate, $1 Bic, $1 Skintimate, $5 Right Guard=$28RRs

Yes, I actually spent real money at Wags today! Imagine that....lolol

**So I paid and the cashier hands me the receipt and NONE of the EIGHT Register Rewards I was suppose to get, PRINTS! EEEEK!!!
After my heart started beating again I told her to call the manager 'cuz I was NOT leaving without my RRs!lol
Long story short, the CAT machine was broken. They KNEW it was broken first thing that morning and had put in calls to the company, etc. to try to get it fixed and they couldn't and they were STILL using that REGISTER all day to ring people up!! So, if you were an unaware shopper, you never even knew you were getting ripped off when you bought a RR generating item in that store!
Unreal.....that they would continue to ring customers out and not use a different register. They have FIVE registers at this store! Man, that got me hot.lol
So the manager rerang everything up at another register and all 8 RRs printed like they should have the first time. So for the rest of my transactions I had to go to the photo center to checkout. Luckily, my fav. cashier Leticia was working at the photo center and she didn't mind letting me check out there. Sometimes the photo person doesn't want to ring you out if you don't have photo/ink stuff to buy too. I have GOT to write a letter to that store and give Leticia some Kudos! ;-))
Then it was off to roll a stack of RRs before they expired. Alot of them were $4.50RRs from the Colgate last week, so I couldn't buy the Visible White until I used those up.

These Insoles are Made for Walking! 99% Savings at WAGS!

The Dr. Scholl's Qs I ordered came on friday. I found myself out & about today near a Walgreens and made a quick run into the store to use some Qs.

Used 2x $10/1 Qs
Total OOP $.00

I had gone over to the food aisles looking for those boxes of Large Lipton Tea Bags(the ones for making iced tea by the pitcher) I saw the other day that they were on clearance for .80¢ a box. This store had none! I figured the .87¢ peanut butter would be long gone...

But as I wandered back to get more insoles to buy, I went down the back end of the 'hardware' aisle and they had carts of food products lined up down the middle of the aisle. I don't know if they were marking them all down for clearance of just rearranging the food shelves and needed some stuff out of there temporarily so they had space to work BUT.....I found the boxes of Tea Bags in a cart there. So I priced checked them and they were still on clearance for .80¢....yes!!! We drink alot of fresh brewed iced tea in this house. Those boxes go for $3.00+ regular retail so .80¢ is a wonderful price!

Which leads me to the next couple of transactions......

Trust me, I found out the hard way, by trying to buy a Contour AFTER the 1st week. It rang up regular price, twice!lol**

This store STILL hadn't gotten any Roots of Nature Hair Products either. And I found 1 lone bottle of the Iceland Health Fish Oil Capsules left on the back of a high shelf this turn around the aisles. Plenty of Colgate Max Toothpaste and Toothbrushes however.

Walgreen's-cheap Peanut Butter, Fish Oil & Beans-95% Savings

Stopped by WAGS today to roll some RRs.
**Be careful this week if you are rolling the $4.50 Colgate Sensitive Toothpaste RRs from last week. Don't use this RR to pay in a transaction buying the Colgate Max Fresh/White Toothbrush or Toothpaste, or you won't get your Max White/Fresh RR. I mention this because it almost tripped me up today!

Let me just give a disclaimer here for all my Compact following friends, before you see the photo below. There are sinful Paper Towels in the photo. Now, I don't do paper towels in any way shape or form, since my sick old dog passed away last May. I hate paper towels, I always have since my mom first bought them in about 1973. But I am married to a human being who thinks Mighty Highly of them & grew up using them. He doesn't care if he's destroying the planet when he needs to use a paper towel.

He also pays for things around here, as he is the gainfully employed one and he is very good to me. So I let him have his few indulgences. My only request is that I buy the paper towels & not him.
He is a typical man.....you need an item, you go into the nearest place that sells item and you buy it. You don't even look at the price, you don't find one that is less expensive if there is a choice and good lord!, you DON'T USE COUPONS!
So, if paper towels are coming into this house, they are coming in through MY FRUGAL, COUPON USING, CHEAP SELF FILTER! I get em but I get em cheap. I'm not happy about it but I do what I gotta do. 'Nuff said.

With that, here's the haul from this afternoon......

The next 2 weeks look pretty 'thin' in terms of things I want so it will be a challenge to find items giving RRs that I want to buy. If I bring another tube of toothpaste into this house I think Hubby will have me committed.lolol So, come on Wags, change it up a bit! Time for some RRs on stuff I need....like T.P. or Laundry Detergent or Juice. Enough with the toothpaste already.....geez!

It's all about the Walgreens, Baby!

Last Sunday, Hubby & I took a little road trip out of Teeny Tiny Town to a nearby larger metropolitan area.
This area just happens to be lousy with Walgreen's Stores.
Imagine that?!

I had an envelope of coupons just crying out to be used, Walgreens had some good deals this week and the weather was great.
We had all the makings for a Walgreen's Hounding Day!

Hubby had to return #1 son's tux from the Prom to the store at noon, so I went off and hit my local Walgreen's first thing.

I knew what I wanted.....I went right to the Pharmacy counter and saw that someone had already come and bought ALL the glucose meters that were giving the $5RR.
Dang!

So I went and bought a box of Ecotrin, $2.00. Used a $1/1Q, paid $1.00 and got a $2RR & a MQ for $2.00 off a larger box of Ecotrin.

Then I bought a box of Bayer crystals, $2.49. Used the Ecotrin $2RR and paid $.49 and got a $2.50RR.

I went off in search of the Nivea Body Wash, grumbling about the son-of-a-gun who cleaned out the store of Meters....grrrr.
As I rounded a corner up by the auxillary checkout register I happened to look up. Sitting on top of a bin of merchandise, sat a large cardboard display for the Bayer Glucose Meters. And inside the display was.........a Glucose Meter!

Someone had propped that display up there and put a couple of meters in it. Whoever cleaned the Pharmacy out of meters didn't find or look for meters in the rest of the store. Yay!lol

I bought the Nivea Wash & a Meter, using a $1/1Q & the Meter Q which made the meter free. Total for that receipt was $4.29OOP(for the Body Wash). I received 2 $5RRs.

Went looking for the Rembrandt-boy that stuff is expen$ive!lol

Got the Rembrandt Mouthwash & another Meter. Used the Bayer Q and the $5RR from the Nivea. Total OOP was $1.35. Got a $5 & $6RRs.

Went back for another Meter. Zero OOP and got another $5RR.

Next was a box of Ecotrin, Bayer Crystals & 3 Bottles of Suave(on sale 3/$5).

Used $1/1Bayer Q, $1.75/3 Suave Q and paid with the $6RR from the Rembrandt. Total OOP $1.04.

One last round of more Nivea Body Wash, large bottle of Ecotrin on clearance($2.19)& some Cough Drops($1.79). Used $5meter RR, Ecotrin $2Q I got earlier & a Nivea $1/1Q I finally found in my envelope. Total OOP was $1.27. Got a $5RR.

Then I went home to get Hubby and we headed out to the Big City to search for more Meters. I had put together 20+ Bayer Meter Qs over the last 2 weeks that needed using. Over the course of the day, and in many MANY stores, we found tons of Meters. I made a point though to only buy only 1 or up to 3 in any store, depending on how many were on the shelves. I know how bummed I was earlier that morning to find my usual store cleaned out of Meters. I didn't want to cause others after me to have the same bad experience. Besides, the Meter $5RR is a month long deal. No need to get greedy and scoop them all up the 1st day/the 1st store.

So the 1st store, we both got a meter....I also got a box of Ecotrin & used a Mitchum $2RR from last week, so no OOP. Got 2 $5RRs & a $2RR.

Then I bought a Bayer Crystals, used the $2RR Ecotrin to pay, $.49 OOP. Got a $2.50RR.

Next store, got a Meter, Nivea Body Wash & more Cough Drops. Used Meter Q, Nivea $1/1Q, paid with a $5RR(an older one, not a Nivea or Meter one) & $1.08 OOP. Got 2 $5RRs.

Hubby bought a Meter & Ecotrin. Used Meter Q & Ecotrin $1/1Q. Paid $1.00 OOP. Got $5RR & $2RR.

Next store, got a Meter, Nivea Body Wash & a newspaper($1.75). Used Meter Q & another older $5RR that needed rolling+$2.04 OOP. Got 2 $5RRs.

Another Meter & Ecotrin, used Qs, got a $5RR & $2RR + $2 Man.Q for larger Ecotrin box, paid $1.00 OOP.

New store....Meter & larger Ecotrin on clearance($2.19), used Meter Q & $2MQ, paid $.19 OOP. Got $5RR.

Another Meter, Bayer Aspirin on clearance for $1.69 & Rembrandt Toothpaste. Used Meter Q, Bayer $2Q, paid with $5NiveaRR and $.68 OOP. Got a $6RR & $5RR.

Another Meter, Zero OOP, got a $5RR.

New store, another Meter, Zero OOP, got a $5RR.

Purchased a Nivea Body Wash & 2 Viactiv Glides on clearance($4.59). Used 2 $2/1Q & a $5Meter RR, paid $5.47 cash. I screwed this one up paying so much OOP. I should have gotten some filler items so I could have used a couple $2EcotrinRRs. I'll blame Hubby rushing me out of the store to go eat.lol

New store, a Meter, Bayer Aspirin(Heart Advantage on clearance-$3.19), more Viactiv Glides on clearance-$4.59) & a newspaper. Used Meter Q, $2Bayer Q, $5NiveaRR, $2EcotrinRR. OOP was $.53 Got $5RR.

Another Meter, Zero OOP, got $5RR.

Rinse & Repeat. This store had tons of Meters. I could have stayed at this one and just used all my coupons....but I restrained myself.lol

New store, rinse & repeat on the Meter deal.
Then I bought a Bayer Crystals, 2 Bic Soleil cartridges on clearance($1.79) & a pack of 4 boxes of Envelopes(for mailing rebates)-$2.50. Used a $5RR(can't remember if it was a Meter or a Nivea RR) & a $2/1Bic Soleil Q. Paid $1.93 OOP. Got a $2.50RR.
Grand total spend OOP-$23.85
Value of Items-$1334.15
Value of Items minus the Meters-$408.15
Coupons/RRs & advertised Savings-$1310.30
Coupons/RRs & advertised Savings minus Meters-$384.30
Savings of 94%
RRs Earned-$144
RRs Spent-$56($6RR carried forward from last week)
RRs Left-$94
Pictured above are the items we bought, besides the Meters. There's a bag of cough drops missing(it never made it home for the photo lol)and both Sunday newspapers.
Speaking of newspapers, I did find out that this larger city gets better coupon inserts than in Teeny Tiny Town! I should have picked up more than 2 papers.
Oh well....
So how did your Wags Week go?
