The Fall of the Roman Empire Anyone?

".… Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses."

--Juvenal  Roman Poet and Satirist

  1. I was embarrassed for that woman when I saw her on the news. Now?

The week before Obama's election, a woman was questioned while she pumped gas. She was for Obama because she would no longer have a house payment. From now on, he would take care of her house payment. SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, in SOME church was manipulating her for the vote. It is sad that people don't have a phone for an emergency. But, I have seen people get these phones who are able to divert the funds they did have to frivolous activities.

I will vote for Obama because Romney scares me to death. No, I am not happy with the choices I have.

    1. First off, you HAVE other choices. Off the top of my head there is the Libertarian, the Green and the Constitution Party candidates--Gary Johnson, Jill Stein and Virgil Goode. Gary will be on 47 if not all state ballots and DC, Stein and Goode on less so check your state's info.

Dems and Reps both play the fear/greed game. Vote for US because THEY want to take your entitlements. Vote for US because THEY want to take your paycheck. Vote for US because THEY look different or pray differently. Etc, Etc.

Instead of voting FOR the lesser of 2 evils this year, why don't we all vote with whomever lines up against what we BELIEVE? Try this candidate quiz....it's more than a flat black/white, yes/no quiz.... www.isidewith.com

  2. It's always been bread and circuses since time began. That's how the rich people in power stay in power. The cell phone program began under former President Bush and is funded by the telecommunications companies, not the taxpayers.

    1. Yes, I am well aware of when this program started, who started it and why, thanks. This was meant to be a comment on the mentality of people who vote and what compels them to make the choices they do.

If it's always been about bread and circuses, why have we not wised up even a smidgeon and learned from it? Is it just that those who want the power HAVE learned the lessons and use them to their own selfish ends? While those who weren't clever enough or didn't care enough to act on those lessons OR keep an eye on those they elect, are now satisfied to settle for the croutons doled out by those in power of whatever ilk?
We need parties in this country that unite our nation, not divide it in order to keep their hands on the power.
Neither of the parties in the Duopoly we are now stuck with do this.
We need to wake up people.....stop watching the high wire act and the clowns coming out of the little car!

  3. I heard this woman on Rush(don't tell Fred) and wasn't even sure if was a man or a woman. And although I'm glad it wasn't made up, I'm sad for the Country.

    1. I too heard it on the radio and thought it was a parody, but sadly, I was wrong.

There is no redress for the common man anymore. We are enslaved by government and sadly many in our nation welcome it. They would rather live in servitude than live free. Servitude is safer and you can spend your time worrying about other things....like who the Bachelor will choose, which Dancing With The Stars or Sports Team will win, and which Celebrity will get married/divorce/check into rehab this week.
