Frugal Friday.....the August 5th Edition

**First off thanks for the good wishes for our move.  We are going to Louisiana to be near our daughter and her hubby for those that inquired why Louisiana.  Can't move to NJ near eldest(too expensive and crowded and we've lived there already and don't care for it)and Ex-College Boy isn't settled anywhere yet so can't decide on that.  So LA it is, swamps, mud bugs, gators and all.

Someone "Unknown" said they would come visit me in Louisiana but no name signed so I don't know who that is(friend?, stalker?)so that is a little creepy.  Please don't be creepy as I will shut down the blog for now.**

Lots of cleaning and clearing out this past week at Chez Sluggy.  We are in full on clean/clear mode as the move date approaches.

*  I put my antique sewing machine on the local free FB thing and it's leaving on Sunday to go to a new home.

*  I've filled another large bag for the Food Bank and it and the other 2 bags all went out this morning.

*  The power washer is reserved for this weekend so the outside of the house will be sparkly by Monday.

*  I've been using frozen foods for meals and trying my best to eat down the freezer.

*  We've been eating lots of leftovers and odd meals as we clear out the foodstuff.  Last night was a big lasagna I made for Hubs to clear out lasagna noodles, some  of the homemade canned sauce and cottage cheese.  I had a very small bowl of Kalamata olives and some chicken strips.

*  Finished interviewing realtors this week so will decide on which company to go with to sell this house next week.

*  I found a farm market set up near our house last Sunday.  The only thing they had that I wanted was cukes so I got 6 for $1.  Much better than the .59¢ a cuke Weis wants for cukes.

I made bread and butter pickles on Tuesday.  They should be ready to eat tomorrow. 8-))  I had to buy a jug of vinegar as we were low.  That's all the spending I did on food last week basically-cukes and vinegar.

*  I went to Rite-Aid late last week.  There was a $10 BC when you spend $50 coupon last week(4 different Qs really)so I rolled my BC on 3 cards.  I also had a $XX off $XX spent Q to pair with it on one card. The best thing I got was Mega dose Flonase sprays for free after Qs/sale price/BC earned back.  I had $10/1 Qs(IPQs and L2CQs)for Flonase so I think I got 6 bottles.
That should keep me in allergy sprays for a good long time.

*  I forgot 2 coupons on my Saturday Rite-Aid trip so took them in on Sunday and got $3 cash for my Refunds/Post Q envelope......

*  I found money this past week!

I am not above trash picking in the trash can outside of Rite-Aid.  If there is a receipt on the top of the pile that's not goopy with a coupon on the bottom of the receipt I will pluck it out.
On Sunday I peered into the trash on the way out and spied someone had thrown these 2 pennies in the trash can!  How disrespectful of money!!  At least give them to the cashier to hold for someone who needs a penny or two to pay for their transaction(or leave it on the floor for me to pick up lol).

Total Found in last Week.... .02¢
Total Found This Year.....$13.96

*  Still making a daily to-do list to keep me on track and to make sure I get sh*t done.  Some days it goes well, other days not so much.  But it's helping.

That's about all I've got for this past week.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!

And have a good weekend!  And stay cool.

Rite-Aid Snafu

**Still waiting on Gerry T. to contact me about the Giveaway!**

I went to Rite-Aid on Monday to pick up an Rx and order more Rxs.

While I was there I thought I'd try to do a Spend $60/Get $15 BC Deal but man, did it go wrong!

Here is what I bought.......

2 x Defy Downy
1 x large Tide Pods container
2 x Tide Sensitive Liquid
2 x Tide Pods
1 x Covergirl concealer
1 x Covergirl concealer
1 x Covergirl eyebrow pencil
1 x Baby Ruth candy bar

All of the Tide/Downy items were on clearance for 50% off.
I had all but the candy bar and the flaky cashier started ringing it all up.  The coupons I had printed from PandG website weren't behaving so she had the manager take over mid-transaction.
Before she left I had asked her if she rang up both the Tide pod bags as she was ringing those in when she called the manager over and she said yes she had gotten them both.

The manager got the coupons to work and when I looked at my receipt when it was all done I saw that I hadn't gotten the $15BC wyspend $60, only the $10 BC for the Covergirl items because I HAD over $60 in items before tax and coupons.

So I took the receipt over to the register, got out my calculator and double checked my pre-Q total on the receipt.  It added up to $59.91.  Now I KNOW it was over $60 before tax when I got up to the register.  I didn't double check that both Tide pod bags were on the receipt as I was in a dither by this point.  I grabbed that candy bar and told the manager we'd have to return and re-ring it all so the $15 BC would attach.  He didn't look thrilled to do all that so he had me buy the candy bar and then he "post couponed" me $15 in cash instead.

And looking back now the flaky cashier had NOT rang both the Tide pod bags up and that's why I was short and why some of the Tide coupons weren't attaching. ugh.  I guess I'll have to return one of the Tide pod bags since I didn't pay for it.

I paid $28.36 including tax in Bonus Cash for my transactions and I earned $10 in new BC, $15 for the BC that didn't attach from the Spend $60/Get $15 BC Q and $6.10 in other BC for completing the Tide Bonus Cash Challenge this account had for May(for a total of $31.10 earned)so it was still a $2.74 moneymaker.

Not exactly how it should have worked but in the end it came out a ok. 8-)  Gotta love a store and manager that know you and will just give you cash instead of jumping back through all those hoops to make the transaction right.

Rite-Aid Shopping This Week

I went to Rite-Aid yesterday and did the freebies to roll the Bonus Cash on my card.........

Various Oral-B, Crest items are on sale for $3.00 each this week.
There are digital Qs on Rite-Aid you can clip to your card, as well as Qs in the P&G insert from Sunday's paper.
These on sale items also give back $2 Bonus Cash.  If you use a $1/1 Q to pay this makes them free.

The best deal is a double pack of Indicator Oral-B toothbrushes on sale for $3 among all the single pack Oral-B brushes that are part of this sale(if your store carries this item).  Use the $1/1 Q available and earn $2 BC which makes them free.

The best toothpaste deal is the Crest Pro-Health Sensitive & Enamel Shield type pictured.  The 4.6 oz. tube is part of the $3 sale and gives back $2 Bonus Cash.  There is a $2/1 digital Q on R-A  you can clip to your card for $2/1 off this product.

$3-$2 Q=$1 and gives back $2 BC so a $1 moneymaker.

Or you can do the other $3 on sale toothpastes and used the $1/1 digital or P&G insert Q, pay $2 and get $2 BC back making it "just" free.

Limit of 2 of these deals per card/account so don't try to get a toothbrush, toothpaste AND mouth wash.  Just 2 of the 3 will give you the Bonus Cash.

I thought I'd mention this early in the week so everyone has enough heads up to go get some dental needs for free or better.

Rite-Aid This Week...Moneymakers!

If you got the coupon inserts on Sunday in the paper and activate additional Plenti Offers online on your card(s) it's a good week to get free toiletries at Rite-Aid!
That is why I am methodically laying out what I bought on Wednesday.....there is still plenty of time and stock to do these deals.

First off my store was totally out of weekly flyers so we couldn't use the $3 off Colgate toothpaste coupon in said flyer.  I guess enough people complained about it so my store is price modifying that toothpaste from the sale price of $3.50 to .50¢, so you can still combine the toothpaste on sale with a manufacturer's coupon from the inserts to get it for free(or in my case since the Q was $1 off 2 tubes, get 2 tubes free). 8-)

I did this transaction on my son's card first but before I did it I bought a charity balloon for the Children's Miracle Network for $1 since you got 4 nice coupons attached to your balloon to use..........

1 x Suave Gold 'Poo on sale=$2.99
2 x Tresemme 'Poo on sale=$10.00
2 x Dove 'Poo on sale=$6.00
1 x Axe men's shower gel on sale=$3.99
1 x Dove men's 'Poo on sale $3.99
1 x Dove men's Body Wash on sale=$3.99
2 x Cheerios cereal BOGO sale=$4.99
2 x Colgate toothpaste on sale & price modified=$1.00
SubTotal.........$36.95

Coupons Used
1 x $1.50/1 Suave Gold 'Poo ManuQ=$1.50
1 x BOGO Tressemme ManuQ=$5.00
1 x $2/1 Tresemme CMNBalloon Q=$2.00
1 x $3/2 Dove 'Poo ManuQ=$3.00
1 x $1/1 Axe shower gel ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $2/1 Dove men's 'Poo ManuQ=$2.00
1 x $1/1 Dove men's Body Wash ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $1/2 Cheerios cereal ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $1/2 Colgate toothpaste ManuQ=$1.00
Coupon Total........$17.50

$36.95-$17.50=$19.45 + $1.15 tax=$20.60

I paid with $20.60 in Plenti Points and earned $11.00 in new Plenti Points making my transaction $9.60(spending down $9.60 in points).
Points earned were $4 for Suave/Tresseme purchases, $3 for the Dove/Axe men's products, $3 wyb2 Dove women's 'Poo, and $1 wyb2 Cheerios.
BUT......I also activated additional offers on this Plenti card before heading to the store--

$1 Suave gold 'poo purchase
$1 Tresemme purchase
$3 Dove 'poo wyb2 purchase
$1 Axe shower gel purchase
$2 Dove men's 'poo purchase
$1 Dove men's body wash purchase
That's an additional $9 in Plenti points back on my card making this $9.60 purchase a .60¢ purchase.

$20.60-$11 in PPs-$9 in additional PPs=.60¢ + the $1 for the additional Tresemme CMN balloon Q makes this transaction cost $1.60.

I actually screwed this transaction up!  I meant to buy 1 'poo and 1 conditioner in the Tresemme as there was a Plenti Points offer online for $3.99 back in PPs which double dipped with the other buy 1 any Tresemme/get $1 back in PPs offer online.
So this transaction should have been a $3.39 moneymaker instead of costing me a whole .60¢ in points. ugh.
**I could go back and return and rebuy the correct Tresemme items I suppose since that would turn both transactions into a $2.78 total moneymaker.
I also had a $3/$15 hair care coupons that I meant to/could have used on this transaction I could do a "post coupon" thing and get $3 cash after the fact......ugh. ugh.
So yes, for $5.78 moneymaker I will do that. ;-)

Then I did this on my card...........after activating additional Plenti offers for this card.............

1 x Axe spray deo on sale=$5.49
1 x Degree men's spray deo on sale=$5.49
1 x Dove men's spray deo on sale=$5.49
1 x Axe men's 'Poo on sale=$3.99
1 x Dove Body Wash on sale=$6.99
1 x Dove deo on sale=$5.27 *Wellness discount was less than sale*
1 x Dove 6 pack soap on sale=$6.49
1 x Dove spray deo on sale=$5.49
SubTotal.......$44.70

Coupons Used
1 x $2/1 Axe spray deo ManuQ=$2.00
1 x $2/1 Degree men's spray deo ManuQ=$2.00
1 x $2/1 Dove men's spray deo ManuQ=$2.00
1 x $2/1 Axe men's 'Poo ManuQ=$2.00
1 x $1/1 Dove Body Wash ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $2/1 Dove deo ManuQ=$2.00
1 x $1/1 Dove soap 6-pack ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $2/1 Dove spray deo ManuQ=$2.00
Coupon Total..........$43.00

$44.70-$14.00=$30.70 + $1.91 tax=$32.61

I paid with $32.61 in Plenti Points and earned $22.00 in new Plenti Points making my transaction $10.61(spending down $10.61 in points).
The 4 men's products on the left in the photo earned me 2 x $3 on a monthly Dove/Degree/Axe men's Deal.
The 4 women's products on the right in the photo earned me 2 x $4 on a monthly Dove Beauty Care Deal.
The same 4 women's products also earned me 2 x $4 this week's Unilever Hair and Skin Care Deal.
The women's Dove products I bought double dipped for both a monthly and a weekly offer earning me $16 in points on just those 4 items.
Add the other $6 for the men's items and you get $22 in Plenti Points.

BUT.......I also will get additional Plenti Points back for the additional offers I activated on this card online--
.50¢ Axe spray purchase
$1.50 Degree spray purchase
$2.00 Dove men's spray purchase
$1.00 Axe 'poo purchase
$1.00 Dove body wash purchase
$1.50 Dove deo purchase
$1.00 Dove soap purchase
$1.50 Dove spray deo purchase

$10 more in Plenti Points earned so now my $10.61 purchase is a .61¢ purchase.  It would have been a moneymaker if not for having to pay the tax.

$32.61-$22 new PPs-$10 additional PPs=.61¢

So after I go back and correct that error in my 1st transaction here's where things stand--
$116.71 in reg. retail products brought home
$2.78 "moneymaker" meaning I spent less point than I earned
$3 cash post coupons refund, deduct $1 CMN balloon cost and I am also $2 cash monies richer.

8-)))
