It"s Time Again for Decluttering Porn!...Or Is It?

I have so been out of it the last few months.
So out of the mood for decluttering.
And I've neglected you dear readers so so badly with my lack of decluttering porn.

So without further ado...or is that adieu?......I bring you Porn for Hoarders!

20 x New in the Box Cherished Teddies

 2 white plastic shelving units

A crazy goose neck standing Lamp
Daughter in background Not included.....though some days.......

A box of Power Rangers kid's bedding(sheets, comforters, etc.)

A box of teddy bears, an electrical cord for a light-up house thing, a souvenir hat, and a pile of sheets of stickers and Christmas hangtags.
Notice the Teletubbies Xmas tags.......have I mentioned my youngest child is 16 yet?
Yes, those are "vintage" Teletubbies tags.....lol

This is all I could muster up for this donation trip.
Pathetic, yes?

I began going through my wardrobe(such that it is!)this week to change out the Summer ware for the Fall and Winter ware too.
Usually when I do this change out, I get rid of at least a small trash bag full of old items that either don't fit/are worn out/or I just don't like and don't wear anymore.
Since I stopped compulsively buying new clothes every season change, like the average American woman does, about 5 years ago, it's become harder and harder to find things to send off to a new home(or the trash if it's worn out).  I have been careful about not buying unless something truly needs replacing, and I replace with 1, not 4 more of the same item....except for when I find shoes that actually fit me.
(I have a weird foot shape/size.)
I've gotten down to a smallish wardrobe that seems right for me and my wear patterns.

But this change out?
The thought of impending economic catastrophe was looming in the back of my head as I sat and gave clothing the thumbs up or thumbs down.
As I see inflation increasing almost weekly as I hit the grocery and drug stores(and the gas pump too), I am feeling more of a need to hang onto what I have suddenly.
It's not like I have large piles of extra of things(except for pasta and toiletries)like in the old days.  If I let go of a sweater, I am developing this fear inside that once the SHTF I will have to roll a wheelbarrow full of money down to any of the clothing stores here to purchase a new one.  And the new one is made of inferior material and put together shoddily 2 continents away and won't last me any time at all equal to the number of Washingtons I'd have to put up to acquire it.

Maybe I'll feel less fearful once the election is well over and what I think is going to happen hasn't.....at least I can hope it's not going to come to pass, right?

I think for my sanity and peace of mind, I'll be holding onto my old clothes for a little while longer....just like I want to hang onto as much of my cash as I can for the time being.
So the only Decluttering Porn you'll continue to see here in the near future is of the useless crap kind.

Looks like a nice pile of stuff leaving here, huh?
Well, it would be, except that it's tiny compared to all the crap that Daughter brought back from college.
Remember this?....
Imagine that red cart filled TWICE full of crap.
And now imagine that HALF of what was hauled home actually made it into Daughter's room.
Yes, a full cart of that crap landed in my garage........

And it sure takes up more room that what I got rid of.
Ick.

I already feel another load of decluttering forming, at least in my brain.....

I just realized that this is my first bit of decluttering since February and Carla's Decluttering Challenge Month.
I've gone almost 3 MONTHS since I decluttered last!

So how about you?
Have you gotten your DeCluttering Porn on yet this year?
Now that the good weather is here, it's time to fling open those garage/basement/closet doors and wage the battle with your Clutter Demons again.
Who knows?  Maybe this year is the year you WIN that Battle!!

If you've got some spare time this long weekend, pick an area in your home to declutter.
Just give yourself 15 minutes and see what you can find that needs to leave your house.
What could you live without?
What is laying around that adds nothing to your life anymore?
What is no longer useful?
What is no longer adding joy or beauty to your life?

Go ahead and donate, recycle or throw it OUT!
Make it a blessing in someone else's life if it no longer is one in yours.

Yes, I am back at the decluttering again.  Once the weather improves a bit this is all leaving the garage and heading into Hub's car trunk....well, the stuff that isn't already in there....then off to Salvation Army. ;-)

2 Sets of rocks & findings for Rock Tumbler

Load #1 for 2012.
Go me!lol

I got Daughter to go through all her crap I boxed up when she left in August for college.  Her room was a disaster!  It looked like a Stuff Bomb blew up in there.lol  So everything got boxed and shoved into the closet.  She finally went through the boxes last week.  She threw out 3 garbage bags of rags, worn out shoes, paper and junk.  I have 2 boxes in the living room ready to go into my next Sallie's donation.
She threw out 2 perfectly good cell phones which I found in the garbage pile.  I've tucked those away in case somebody's cell phone dies.  It may not be "in" anymore but it will work fine for me.
Anyway, after she got rid of all that crap, there is now room in the large closet in her room to put away ALL the Christmas stuff.
Finally!  Boxes of Christmas stuff don't have to be in the garage or sitting out in the living room all. year. long.
Can you tell I am pleased?

I'm fighting some illness at the moment....sinuses.....flu.....I don't know what it's turning into.
Hubs had been sick all week and has graciously shared whatever he had with me.  I love him anyway.....

I've got a dentist appointment in a half hour and that Women's Club talk on Thursday so falling apart is NOT an option right now.

My eBay store is empty and once I feel better I'll have to fill that up again as part of the Big Purge.

Off to brush my teeth again and get through the day.

The GREAT PURGE of 2011.....Final Numbers!

Longtime readers will remember I posted back in May of 2011 about my Great Purge of 2011.
The post is HERE.
That was when I posted my intention to Declutter my home/life BIGTIME in 2011.
I actually began sending loads to Salvation Army in February of 2011 and had already donated 3 carloads to charity by the time I publicly announced 2011 was The Year of the Purge.

I just finished going through all my paperwork in preparation for tax time later this month and here are the final results for The Great Purge of 2011.
*Now before you freak about when you see the amount of things I got rid of, remember that I was emptying a storage unit of merchandise as well as personal items in my home.

16 Loads of Stuff
OR
1,016 Items were donated to charity and left my house.

In addition.....
3 Loads of Food/Toiletries
OR
314 Items were donated to the local Food Bank.
(This doesn't include the items given to family in need.)

I know many of you enjoyed my Decluttering P*rn last year.
And I am here to tell you that you are in luck!

While I had a great year of getting rid of stuff at Chez Sluggy in 2011, the job is/was so massive that not everything that needs to leave has left yet.......
Meaning the Great Purge of 2011 is extending into the Great Purge of 2012!

Yes, another year of P*rn until it is all G.O.N.E.

I've already got half of a load ready to go to Salvation Army later this week....woohoo!

So stick around for more Decluttering P*rn here at "Don't Read This; It's Boring!".

I know some of my blogging friends were on the decluttering warpath at some point last year.....MARK and ALEX M. to name a couple.  They both did(or are doing)a fantastic job!  A round of applause to each of them. 8-)

So what about you?.....Did you declutter in 2011?
Do you need to declutter in 2012?

Why don't you join along and get rid of all that crap that isn't working in your life!
Just make a commitment and get moving on it!!
And once you start letting go of stuff, stop bringing more stuff in to replace it!
Yeah, it's kind of important to do that STOP buying/collecting part unless you just want to ALWAYS be intensely decluttering until you die.

Leave a comment about your decluttering successes of 2011 and your hopes and plans for 2012.
We all want to see your p*rn and cheer YOU on too!

I have to tell y'all a FUNNY thing that happened.
A few months back, I tried to link one of my Decluttering posts to a Blog That I Care NOT to Name Here, who's focus is on Cleaning and Making Your Home Happy and Functional.  She has a link up thing every once and awhile.
Even though she is not one of those militant Christian Mommy Blogs(you KNOW the ones...), I mistakenly believed she had a sense of humor!  And that she would totally "GET" my tongue in cheek Decluttering post titles where I refer to the crap you declutter as P*rn.  It's not like I actually typed out P-O-R-N, right?

Evidently she was born without lower frontal lobes in her brain that control our sense of funny.

Because a few hours after linking to her Linky Thing, she removed me!
Just like that!.....no email to me asking me what WAS I thinking or letting me know why she pulled my bloggy plug.

Ok Miss Thing Who has decidedly NO sense of humor or fun.
I can now say I have seen it all!
I've met someone with a smaller sense of humor than Sheldon.

Can You Stand Some More Decluttering P*rn?!?!

Ready or not, here it comes!
Just the pictures because I don't even want to talk about this stuff.  It's bad enough I have to show you the photos....

It struck me today as I shot these photos that I have Clutter Bulimia.  I use to buy shit and now I am purging it.

I am well on my way to becoming a Minimalist.....well, except for that whole high end technology snobbery/hoarding(My Apple product is superior to your "fill in the blank" and I am allowed to spend huge amounts on them and replace them freely as new items come out so that I have every Apple related product on the planet but have only 3 pairs of pants but it's because I spend ALL my money on technology because my priorities are so screwed up, not because I believe you should only own 3 pairs of pants so you can save the planet, because if I thought saving the planet was important, I wouldn't be supporting the over consumption of technology products and the precious metals it takes out of the Earth and the slave labor that is harnessed to harvest the raw materials)thing they do.

Ok, so maybe I'll never be a Minimalist...until they get over themselves.  ;-)

80 more items to chalk up upon the Clutter-Free tally sheet....yippee!

1 Wilton train cake mold
1 Christmas ornament

1 set Chinese iron balls(#2 son's contribution-still shaking my head why he spent good money on this at the amusement park?!)

Now I am off this blasted machine for awhile.
I actually have to leave the house today.
Go me!

What's on your plate for today?

Weekend Feelings & Progress

Well my back gave out sometimes between Friday evening and Sunday morning.
This means I didn't get all the potential toy sale boxes gone through in storage before the weekend was over.
Shoot!

I have sorted many of them however.

I also got all the shelving put together and arranged in the garage.

I have 40 shelves, 1 banquet table with a shelf on top, 1 card table, 1 tea cart, 1 patio table & 2 storage tubs I can use to put items on(fragile/heavy items like ceramic cookie jars, etc. that the shelving can't hold).  If needed I can also put the pool deck storage box in the driveway and display more items on that.

And I got the Advertising Flyer designed and ready to print.

Now I need to dust off and price all the items in the garage and put them out for display since there are so many boxes of items out there now you can't even walk around.lol
After I get that all priced and out(the empty boxes go into storage in case I need them to cart what doesn't sell to charity), I'll get back to going through what is left in storage.
I am tired.

And I am emotionally raw too.
It sucks to be me right now, but I know I have to face these feelings so I can get past them.

Going through all these boxes of items and deciding what to do with them has been rough.
I've had to confront some bad memories.......from a time when I wasn't very happy and bought some of this stuff.
I've had to confront things about myself.
Things like...what made me buy all this stuff in the first place.
Things like.....the waste of money.  I made money on this stuff but not being able to sell what is left and hanging onto it has cost money.
Things like....not making decisions for so many years on some of this stuff.  Not being able to let it go!
Things like....throwing good money after bad and not just cutting my losses sometimes.
Things like.....letting some of this stuff take over my life.
Things like.....feeling like a hoarder.  It runs in our family so I have to keep an eye on myself.

Spending so much time with all this crap just makes me depressed. 8-(

But I know I am getting better.
Because if I had tried to sell all this crap last year for as little as I am going to charge, I wouldn't have been able to go through with it!
This tells me that I have loosened my emotional hold on these "things".....or have they loosened their emotional hold on ME?!?!
Hhhmmmm...

At any rate, I'm done dealing with this stuff for today and tomorrow I'll continue to make preparations for the sale.

Here's hoping your Weekend brought you some time off or good progress toward a goal!

It Done Rained on my Master Plan

Circumstances beyond my control(isn't EVERYTHING pretty much beyond my control?lol)have caused me to change my Decluttering plans.

Here is what I was going to do....
1. Sell Stockpile goods leftover from Garage Sales at the local Flea Market.  Hopefully this would leave me with little extra stock to store away for later.
2.  Go through boxes of  "Stuff to Sell" in storage unit.  Sort into 3 piles--A)eBay worthy, B)Charity Donation worthy, C)Toy Sale worthy.
Many of the things I haven't put on eBay yet in storage are not worth the expense or time involved to sell them there any longer.  Prices are down, shipping costs are up and fees well, I don't even want to THINK about the cost of some of those anymore!!
So I'll be sorting through every single item in every single box.  If it's still worth putting on eBay, I will do that.  If it's not worth selling there, it goes into my Garage Sale Toy stack.  I plan on filling the garage with all this stuff, advertising it and having a big Before Christmas Toy Sale.  Garage Sale prices on new in the package older toys and collectibles.
And after I hold this, there will be many donations to charity with what is left.
3. Hold the Garage Sale Toy Sale.  This will require a massive reorganizing and temporary cleaning out of the garage as soon as possible.  I am shooting for mid October to hold the sale....close enough to Christmas to get people to buy but not so cold that we can't open the garage door and extend the area were we can display items since it is NOT all going to fit inside the garage.
Trust me.....it's an ass ton! ;-)
After the Master Plan is implemented, I would be able to fit everything I have in storage into the garage(no, we don't actually keep CARS in our garage....what of it?lol)and stop renting that unit.

Well that WAS the plan.....

Hubs and I were going to do the local Flea Market this Sunday or next at the local drive-inn theater.
We've had a couple of successful outings there in the past 2 years selling my excess Stockpile of Toiletries/Food/Household Goods.
You can read about our 1st trip in Oct. of 2009 HERE and our 2nd trip in May of 2010 HERE.

Then The Great Flood of 2011 happened.
The Drive-In was decimated by the flood so it is closed under further notice.
I can't share photos of the damage so if you'd like to see it, go to their Facebook Page.
*Sigh*

I feel badly for their losses and I hope they can rebuild.  It would be a shame to lose them.

So no flea market for me.
Now I have to box up all the leftover toiletry goods and find a place for them in the storage unit temporarily.

The 2nd part of my "Master Plan" has now begun.  I've gone through 30 boxes so far and need to make another trip to storage for more boxes to sort through.  Most of the stuff so far has gone into the Garage Toy Sale pile.  This is my main chore for this weekend.

Next week I start Part 3--Getting the garage cleaned up and rearranged to display all the toys, deciding on what day to hold the Sale and getting the word out to advertise it.

Back to plowing through the stuff.
Wish me luck!

So what's on your weekend agenda?

Decluttering P*rn....The June Edition

Who's up for some P*rn this morning?

The Decluttering kind of course!

Various Beanie type dolls
1 Pee Wee's Playhouse VHS tape
2 Books on Healing Foods
7 Bath Poofs
a buttload of Stickers
1 Refrigerator Magnet
1 Fisher-Price toy(vintage)
2 Silver plated Swan Candle and Flower Holders

Here's a close-up of those.  I picked them up at Sallie's years ago and thought when we entertained I could make use of them.....
Well we never entertain so out they go!

1 willow basket
1 bamboo box
3 women's jackets/coats
1 set of men's thermals

A pile of toys......
93 assorted Kid's Meal toys still in the packages.  It may not look like much in the photo but they fill a Hammermill  paper box.
Now I know you are sitting there thinking, "Gee, she is the meanest mommy in the world, not letting her kids open/play with their Happy Meal toys."
Or
"Gee, she let her kids eat waaaay too much fast food!"

Considering this is a pile of Kid Meal toys from 3 kids and it spans all the fast food they ate over a 15 year period, they really didn't eat chicken-like nugget food that often.
Ok, it's not ALL the kid meal toys they got growing up since they did open and play with more of these things than I would care to recall....especially after stepping on way too many of them as I ran the obstacle course of toys left on the floors of their rooms over the years.

And yes, I did withhold the toys as a rule when they ordered a Happy type Meal.  Since I didn't want them having me buy food they didn't really want to eat, just to get a toy, this policy kept them from asking for food when they weren't really hungry.  We weren't throwing out/wasting food or money.
(Let's not talk about all the kids' meals "I" bought to get teenie beanie babies or pokemon toys.....lol)

I'd keep the toys and we'd dole them out at a later date.....say, when they were bored, on long car trips, as prizes for birthday party games, or when they did something to deserve a 'reward'.  So over the years, a large number of these toys didn't get claimed.

Anyway, moving on.....
2 women's bathing suits
1 sweatshirt(new)
1 pair Joe Boxer shorts
7 skateboarding themed t-shirts

And finally.....

6 pieces of Cape Cod Cranberry Glass
Before these hit Salvation Army I'm going to try to sell them locally.
Either way, they will be gone by the end of this month.

So that's my 1st June decluttering booty.
Are you getting rid of junk this month too?
Tell us about your efforts to pare down and declutter!

More Decluttering P*rn......Toys for Days!

The first photo, to get you to your decluttering "happy place", is of a couple of bags of clothes Hubs and I purged from our closet.  I found skirt/top sets I hadn't worn in 10 years!  Also some heavier fabric tops I never wore.....ugh.  And some really ugly colored pants....

Now onward to the toys.....yes, toys for days and days and days.
Again, if anyone wants/needs any of this stuff and wants to make me an offer(barter is good and cash is even better!lol), just shout out.

Would you believe Get Smart action figures? *said in my best Don Adams voice*

Original Toy Story and The Mask sticker books with packs of stickers and vintage My Little Ponies in need of a good comb thru....

More vintage MLPs, along with Johnny Lightning brand Hot Wheels type cars, Furby and M&M ornaments and Power Ranger stickers.....

Power Rangers in Space Astro Megazord......

The Smurf Tree-Go-Round and Power Ranger Quasar Launcher weapon.  I wonder how many shots from the launcher would it take to obliterate the Smurfs?

Bendable Jar Jar Binks and Wattoo dolls.  The Bert and Ernie of outer space......

A Star Wars puzzle and a couple of Power Rangers on Galaxy Gliders...

A Curious George Gumball Bank and another Smurf.   Where's my Quasar Launcher when I need it?!?

Behold, the Power Rangers Galaxy Megazord....the tiny 6" action figure sized one.....
and a couple of fake shoes....tiny collectible fake shoes for tiny fake feet.

A couple of Doughboy ornaments because nothing says the birth of Jesus like baked goods, right?
And if baked goods don't do it for ya, you could hang the John Glenn Hot Wheels action pack figures on your tree instead because nothing says Christmas like jet fueled rockets and astronauts who Dance with the Stars!

a large The Dog brand stuffed dog.....a beagle wearing reindeer antles because nothing says Christmas, well you know the rest.....
Ignore the Precious Moments box, that isn't going to Sallie's.  I can sell that shit even though it weighs a TON! 8-)

And a baggie with an ANNIE book, tape and a couple of Annie dolls.  I think my mother picked this stuff up at a yard sale ages ago for my Daughter.  Mom never gave the stuff to my Daughter however and I found this among her things after she died.  After she found out that the Daughter undressed her Barbie dolls to use the clothes to put on her stuffed animals and left the dolls mangled in a heap under her bed or something, she prolly decided to spare the twin Annies from that nekkid and unloved fate.
So now I get to dispose of them.  Yay me! ;-)
More to come, maybe later this week!
