This Week on the Dining Table

The "Would You Drink This?" Edition.....

I am so out of the loop I hadn't even heard of this--a Marshmallow Peeps flavored limited edition Pepsi drink.  It doesn't sound very appetizing to me and I know Kim would never drink this for two reasons, 1-it's not diet and 2-it's not Coke. lolz
Would you drink this?  I'd take a sip just to say I've tasted it but I'm not about to pay $2.18 for a whole bottle!

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned.......
1. Sunday--Tempura Shrimp, Cole Slaw
2. Monday--leftover Lasagna, Salad
3. Tuesday--Collards, Chicken Parm
4. Wednesday--Zaxby Zalad w/Chicken
5. Thursday--Brats on Roll(or not), baked Sweet Potato Wedges
6.  Friday--Catfish, Sauté Cabbage
7. Saturday--Liver and Onions, Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Veggie TBD

And here's what actually happened........
1. Sunday--Tempura Shrimp, Cole Slaw
2. Monday--Zaxby's Zalad w/Chicken
3. Tuesday--Collards, Chicken Parm
4. Wednesday--Catfish Lunch w/Okra, Corn, Fries(no dinner)
5. Thursday--Brats on Roll(or not), baked Sweet Potato Wedges
6.  Friday--Fend for Yourself
7. Saturday--Hamburgers, Salad

The Catfish meal and the Liver meal didn't happen.  We had catfish out on Wednesday and the Daughter had to work Saturday so the liver is still tucked in the freezer hoping to get made this Saturday. 8-)  Everything else got made but not necessarily on the day I planned.

What got put into the freezer last week....
*  2 bags of broccoli
*  2 bags of stir-fry veg
*  3 Chicken Parms
*  2 bags of Chicken Teriyaki
*  2 bags of Burritos

What got taken out of the freezer and used...
*  1 box of Chicken Parm
*  1 bag of Shrimp
*  1 pack of Bratwurst

Last week Hubs picked up items at Shopper's Value Mart, Kroger and Walmart(I went to this one too)and spent a total of $116.46.
This brings our food/toiletries/paper goods Total to $441.47 for February so far.

There is 1 shopping days left in February.

I've earned $147.25 on Ibotta in February.
I've earned $0 on Checkout51 in February.
I've earned $19.00 on Coupons dotcom in February.
I've earned 3,508 points from shopping on Fetch in February.
I earned 40 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in February.
I've earned 0 SB from food shopping on Swag Bucks in February.

That's $166.25in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Fetch)on $441.47 in grocery spending so in reality it's $275.22 in food spending after the 3 rebate apps I count.

My savings percentage for the last week was 45.03% and the monthly savings total for February comes in at 35.26% so far.

Leftovers going into this week.....a little Stroganoff but no rice, Collards and 2 or 3 Brats.  Hubs will take care of most of these for lunches.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--Stuffed Red Peppers, leftover Collards
2. Monday--Big Salad w/Chicken on top
3. Tuesday--Pork Tenderloin on Bun, Corn
4. Wednesday--Lunch out or Take-out
5. Thursday--FFY
6.  Friday--Catfish, Sauté Cabbage or Cole Slaw
7. Saturday--Liver and Onions, Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, either Green Beans or Beets

What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu?  I am almost out of flour so that's something to pick up.  Hubs can make the Monday to Thursday meals(and half of the Friday meal).  It is more difficult for me to walk/stand as the doc has increased the compression on my leg(wound).  It is painful to walk due to the compression dressing on my ankle and foot so I'll be more sedentary for the next little while until they discontinue this compression. ugh.  So meals need to be simpler or things Hubs can prepare as I can't be walking around much.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any deals on food at your stores this week?

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Weird Dreams" Edition................

I've been having a slew of weird dreams lately.  The last one I was giving birth but the baby was inside a gift tin. ouch! lolz  I should write them down so I remember them all.

Moving On....

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned--

1. Sunday--Spaghetti with Sauce, Meatballs, Salad
2. Monday--Leftover Pork Chops w/Apricot Glaze(glaze is new), Asiago Rice, Veggie TBD
3. Tuesday--Salmon, Roasted Sweet Potato and Carrots, Mac and Cheese
4. Wednesday--Hot Dogs w/Chili, Beans
5. Thursday--Steak Ravioli with Sauce, Salad
6. Friday--Leftovers or FFY
7. Saturday--Leftovers or FFY

And this is what actually happened--

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--Spaghetti with Sauce, Meatballs, Salad
2. Monday--Leftover Pork Chops w/Apricot Glaze(glaze is new), Asiago Rice, leftover Harvard Beets and Carrots
3. Tuesday--Salmon, Roasted Sweet Potato, Mac and Cheese
4. Wednesday--Pizza and Stromboli
5. Thursday--Hot Dogs, Beans
6. Friday--Steak Ravioli with Sauce
7. Saturday--Leftovers

Last week saw 5 nights of home cooked dinners, 2 nights of leftovers/ffy, and 0 nights of Eating Out/Take-Out.
I found some old gift certificates we won at the church auction last Fall and wanted to use them before the restaurant closed up(it happens quite a bit around here lolz)so we had take-out on Wednesday instead of hot dogs and beans.

What got put into the freezer last week.....
* leftover Chili
* leftover Goulash

What got taken out of the freezer and used last week.....
* 12 Meatballs
* 1 hunk of Salmon
* 1 bag of Ravioli
* 1 pack of hot dogs

Trips to Weis for lots of TP and other items($57.52) and a trip to the Ocean State Job Lot($12.80)brought the weekly spending to $85.54 and my September Grand Total spending on food to $462.32.

My savings percentage last week was 51.90%(without Rite-Aid trips)and September's monthly savings total comes in at 54.50%(w/out R-A).

I have 0 more food shopping/spending days in September.  Because of the TP stock-up mostly, I went over budget this month by $62.32.
No problem as I have spare monies in the budget to cover that overage and most of the tp was 50% off and I won't have to worry about tp for about 6 months now. 8-)))

Leftovers going into this week......1 slice of pizza and 1 helping of ravioli.  These will be eaten for lunches/snacks so I've got to come up with all new meals. sigh.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--FFY
2. Monday--Lasagna Helper, Veggie from Freezer TBD
3. Tuesday--Beef Pie w/Green Beans/Carrots, Cornbread Topping
4. Wednesday--Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches w/Veggie from Freezer TBD
5. Thursday--Chicken Rice and Broccoli Casserole
6. Friday--Leftovers or FFY or Breakfast for Dinner
7. Saturday--Leftovers or FFY

This week will see 5-6 new meals cooked, 1-2 night of leftovers/FFY, and 0 nights of  Eating Out.
The weather has taken a nippy turn so I've got a couple casserole type meals on tap for the week and both should yield leftovers.
Go me. ;-)

What needs buying for this menu? We have no Ground Beef so that's a need.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Unseasonably Hot September" Edition................

The last few days(and I see 7 more are coming this week)it's been very warm and muggy, especially for this late in September here.  The perpetual motion machine named Dixie Belle has even been waylaid a bit and actually lays in a bed for more than 3 seconds at a time.  Summer is not loosening her grip on NEPA.

Moving On....

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned--

1. Sunday--Chili, leftover rolls
2. Monday--Chicken Cordon Bleu, Veggie TBD
3. Tuesday--Barbecue Chicken Thighs, Yellow Squash and Onions, other Leftover Sides
4. Wednesday--Steak Ravioli w/Sauce, Salad
5. Thursday--Salmon, Roasted Sweet Potato and Carrots
6. Friday--Steak
7. Saturday--Leftovers

And this is what actually happened--

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--Chili, leftover rolls
2. Monday--Leftovers(I had a BLT)
3. Tuesday--Barbecue Chicken Thighs, Yellow Squash and Onions
4. Wednesday--Chicken Cordon Bleu, leftover Yellow Squash and Onions
5. Thursday--Steak, Caesar Salad
6. Friday--Leftovers
7. Saturday--Leftovers

Last week saw 4 nights of home cooked dinners, 3 nights of leftovers/ffy, and 0 nights of Eating Out/Take-Out.
Everything happened except the Salmon meal and the Ravioli which moves to this coming week.

I tried my hand at making Chicken Cordon Bleu from scratch.  Maybe I should have tried an actual recipe or something? lolz  They were tasty but a messy disaster because I pounded my chicken too thin inadvertently.  I tried to make "burritos" or pockets with them, so the cheese didn't leak out.  This meant using so many toothpicks and they still leaked!  They were just messy and time consuming and now I know why when Hubs wants this dish I buy them pre-made and frozen. lolz
The dish's taste vs. work wasn't worth it for me.

What got put into the freezer last week.....
* Just a small baggie of home grown broccoli.  I didn't buy any meats or cheese for the freezer. (Unless I decide to shred up some of that 6 lbs. of cheddar I got at Walmart last week but the clip at which Ex-College Boy goes through cheese......)

What got taken out of the freezer and used last week.....
* Stew Beef pack and a less than 1 lb. hunk of London Broil
* Some shredded Swiss cheese(about half a package)
* 3 T-Bone Steaks

One trip to Weis($32.24), a trip to the Ocean State Job Lot($72.70), and a trip to Walmart($47.13)brought the weekly spending to $152.07 and my September Total spending on food to $376.78.

My savings percentage last week was 51.25%(without Rite-Aid trips)and September's monthly savings total comes in at 55.05%(w/out R-A).

I have 7 more food shopping/spending days in September.  The budget is $400 so I have very little left to spend($23.22)before September is through.
As I am hitting OSJL this week before their annual "20% off everything in the store Sale" is over I am assuming now I will be over for the month.  But it will be worth it.
And as I was almost $100 UNDER budget for food/toiletries in August and the fact that I won't be home for a good part of October(=no food shopping)I don't feel too bad about going over this month.

Leftovers going into this week......2 Pork Chops, Carrots, Asiago Rice, Goulash, Egg Noodles, Chili.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--Spaghetti with Sauce, Meatballs, Salad
2. Monday--Leftover Pork Chops w/Apricot Glaze(glaze is new), Asiago Rice, Veggie TBD
3. Tuesday--Salmon, Roasted Sweet Potato and Carrots, Mac and Cheese
4. Wednesday--Hot Dogs w/Chili, Beans
5. Thursday--Steak Ravioli with Sauce, Salad
6. Friday--Leftovers or FFY
7. Saturday--Leftovers or FFY

This week will see 5 new meals cooked, 3 night of leftovers/FFY, and 0 nights of  Eating Out.

What needs buying for this menu?  Nothing.  I've got everything here in the fridge, freezer or pantry.  It's a good thing too since I am about out of food budget for the month.

Of course, except for Sunday(which is in the books now)or tonight's leftover fest, this plan can change in a hot minute depending on if I feel like eating/making this menu or not when that particular night is here.
Cooks prerogative rules, am I right!? lolz

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Where's Breakfast Mommy?!?" Edition................

A shot of the canine gang this morning.  Just getting them both to hold still is a challenge, especially when they want breakfast. lolz

This is what was planned--
1. Sunday--Tacos and/or Taco Salad
2. Monday--Garlic Pork Loin, Mac and Cheese, Cabbage
3. Tuesday--Baked Catfish, French Fries, Mixed Veg
4. Wednesday--Chicken/Turkey Enchiladas, Rice, Beans
5. Thursday--Leftovers
6. Friday--Pizza(maybe), Salad
7. Saturday--Leftovers
Plus we will have sliced tomatoes and cukes to fill in if we are a low on a dish or someone doesn't want something served(me usually).

And this is what actually happened--

1. Sunday--Tacos and/or Taco Salad
2. Monday--Garlic Pork Loin, Corn on Cob
3. Tuesday--Baked Catfish and Salmon, Cabbage, Roasted Sweet Potato cubes
4. Wednesday--Turkey Enchiladas(I had beans)
5. Thursday--Hot Dogs, Squash and Onions
6. Friday--Leftovers
7. Saturday--Rigatoni and Meatballs, Salad

Last week saw 5 nights of home cooked dinners, 1 nights of leftovers/ffy, and 0 nights of Eating Out/Take-Out.
The pork loin was done in the crockpot as Monday was still hot/muggy.
Wednesday I was able to use leftovers-turkey already cooked from the freezer.  I cooked Wednesday's dinner on Tuesday as I was running the oven then.  The Enchiladas just needed reheating on Wednesday. The sweet potatoes were long in the tooth and needed using so I was glad to get those cooked/served.
I did sauce and 2 packs of those meatballs in the crockpot on Saturday.  We had Rigatoni/Salad with them Sat. and there is enough for another meal or two lunches this week.  I'm not planning on meatballs again for a dinner since, well, Hubs. lolz

What got put into the freezer last week.....
* 10 lbs. of meatballs
* 3 lbs. of nitrite-free bacon

What got taken out of the freezer and used last week.....
* Cooked Turkey Breast slices
* a Pork Loin
* medium Catfish fillet
* small Salmon portion
* 8 hot dogs

Two trips to Malacari's produce($57.27)-and 12 lbs. of meatballs later-brought the weekly spending to $57.27 and my August total to $238.43.
I shot for $60 in food spending last week and I kept to it. go me. lol

My savings percentage last week was 56.35%(without Rite-Aid trips)and August's monthly savings total comes in at 49.13%(w/out R-A).

I have 5 more food shopping/spending days in August and $161.57 left in my $400 food budget for this month.  I guess I will stay under budget this month on food

Leftovers going into this week......Pork Loin slices, 2
Enchiladas, Mixed Veg, Cabbage, 2 Corn on Cob, Rigatoni and Meatballs.
I'll strip the kernels off the corn and either freeze them or put them in the pot pie I am making tonight.  Hot weather rolls back in Tueday so no more running the oven for awhile and back to stove top/grill/crockpot meals for awhile longer.

Here is this week's "food plan".....

1. Sunday--Chinese Take-Out
2. Monday--Chicken Pot Pie
3. Tuesday--Kielbasa on Rolls, Sauerkraut(optional), Harvard Beets
4. Wednesday--Dinner Out(Anniversary)
5. Thursday--Breakfast for Dinner
6. Friday--Shrimp Scampi w/Linguine
7. Saturday--Steak, Salad, Corn Casserole

This week will see 5 new meals cooked, 0 night of leftovers/FFY, and 2 nights of Take-Out/Eating Out.

What needs buying for this menu? We need milk and I want a watermelon this week.  I'll go to Weis before Thursday to use that $5 off $25 Q.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

The "Eating Down the Freezer" Edition.........

This is a shot of my chest freezer after this past Friday's shop.

I now need to stop buying food to stick in here and eat what is already there for January.  I was doing well on this mission until.............

Almost 18 pounds of meat and chicken w/a reg. retail of $83.06 for a mere $38.04.  How could I resist?!? lolz

We had eaten down some of these frozen assets but after I put the new meats in I am full up again! ;-)
