Frugal Friday......the March 8th Edition

Let's see what frugal stuff went on this past week at Chez Sluggy.............

*  Almost free cereal x 2.....

This is the second batch of cereal I got this week.  None of these rang up the wrong price so I paid $8.70 then got $5.25(.25¢ was a bonus for buying MOM in 2 trips)back on Ibotta so $3.45 for all 5 bags OOP.  The first batch of 5 bags cost me $3.06 due to 2 bags ringing up reg. price/incorrectly(the first batch also had 1 bag which was larger/cost more).

*  Found change at 2 Rite-Aids...........

A penny at two different Rite-Aids this past week.

* I got my Friday Freebie at Weis last Friday......

Of course it was almost Lent and there is a large population of Polish descent Catholics in my town so pierogi was a VERY popular freebie.  I do believe this was the freebie sometime during Lent last year too.  ;-)

*  Free samples at Rite-Aid............

 I found these Hydralyte samples with $1 off Qs at a Rite-Aid I went in.

These Ricola immunity drops were on the Wellness table at my Rite-Aid on Wednesday.

*  Wellness Wednesday Haul.......

The WW haul update-This last photo of the transaction on my son's card "cost" me $1.18 in Bonus Cash.  I earned back $6 in new BC($1 Russell Stover eggs, $3 wyb Max Ensure, $3 wyb2 Ziplocs).
Grand Total "spent" in BC/gift card on Wednesday for everything brought home-$28.61.
Grand Total "earned" in BC/Ibotta on Wednesday for everything-$44.25.  I grew my Bonus Cash by $16.54 on Wellness Wednesday.
8-)

*  Almost free grocery shop at Weis on Tuesday...........

After Qs and overage my OOP was .85¢.
Sweet. 8-)))

* Found change at Weis too.........

Another penny over by the CS desk.

Besides money I also found this last Saturday at Weis(PMITA)Markets.........

A Visa card.  It was half tucked under the magazine rack across from the last check-out register.  I turned it into the Customer Service Desk and no, I didn't buy a cart full of groceries with it first. lolz

*  A Free dog food coupon

This free bag of Purina dog food Q finally showed up in the mail.

* I received $14.60 since last Friday in Ibotta rebates.  I am up to a total of  $75.20 in Ibotta rebates for 2019 so far.

*  We almost had a frugal misstep this past week.  Hubs and I went to Bob Evan's for lunch on Tuesday.  I gave Hubs the $5 wyspend $25 Q to apply to the bill and he went to pay.
He takes his cc receipt and we start to go to the car.  Of course, he didn't actually LOOK at the receipt and the cashier hadn't applied the $5 off, but I, of course, caught it and hauled him back in.

It took the hostess/cashier, the manager(he was new)and a long time employee who we had to wait to come out of the ladies' room to fix it.  20 MINUTES later and they had cancelled the first c/c receipt and reran the charge through w/the $5 discount.
Seriously?  20 minutes and the lady waiting behind Hubs' to pay her bill was none too pleased either.
I guess I need to take care of "complicated" transactions like this from now on? lolz

What Frugaliciousness did you experience this past week?

Anything good??

Let us hear all about it!

I also earned $1.75 in Ibotta rebates($1 Folgers, .75¢ Werther's).
So $15.22 "spent" and $21.25 "earned".

Given what I bought, coupons used and what I paid OOP in BC in the last 2 transactions, take a guess on what I paid in Bonus Cash and what I earned back in new BC.

A Good Weis Trip

So I went up to Weis to pick up a few things before the ad week changes on Thursday.........

These two packs of loose raw shrimp came to 1.40 lbs.  With the $2 off instant discount stickers it all cost me $7.10.  The reg. price on shrimp here is $7.99 lb. and you have to buy it in 2 lb. bags so I'll take these clearance packs any day which I can stick into the freezer until needed/wanted.

I also picked all this up..........

Too Good and Oh! yogurts are part of a "Buy 12/Pay .83¢ each" Deal until ad change on Thursday.
I bought 12 @ .83¢=$9.96.
I used 6 x .50/1 Too Good and 6 x .50/1 Oh! yogurt IPQs.
The first 4 of each identical Q are suppose to double to $1 but when the cashier put them through all 12 doubled to $1.
$9.96=$12.00= negative $2.04 OOP.

The marinade was on special for $1.99 each.  I had a hangtagQ for .55¢ which doubled to $1.10 so the marinade was .89¢ OOP.

The Kraft Snackfulls were on special $1 each wyb4. I got these to take on our road trip next week......it's not something I'd ordinarily buy.
Two of these had $1/2 PeelieQs on them so $4-$2=$2 for all 4.  Add in the $2.00 overage on the yogurt and these were free and .04¢ of the overage applied to the .89¢ spent on the marinade so that was .85¢ when all was said and done. 8-)))

The Malt O Meal rebate just came back on my Ibotta list so I'll go back for 5 more bags of cereal and hope that S'mores one is still ringing up full price so I can get them all for $3.06 again. lolz

If I have time I'll post again later today. Now I am gathering my Qs and then it's off to Rite-Aid for some Wellness Wednesday pillaging.
Hoorah!
Then lunch out with Hubs.
Oh, it's a lavish, rock star life I lead, indeedy! 8-)

My Cheap Cereals at Weis!

I ran up to Weis this past weekend for this for Ex-College Boy............

All the bags of Malt O Meal cereals were on clearance at Weis(PMITA)Markets for 50% off.
I also had a $1 Ibotta rebate offer(use up to 5 times)on any Malt O Meal cereal 18 oz. or over.

For I found 5 bags on clearance(4 were $1.74, 1 was $2.85-a really BIG bag!).
Total OOP should have been $9.80, then $5 cash back for a grand total of $4.80 for all 5 bags.

But the 2 S'mores type rang up full price at $3.49 even though they were clearly tagged on the shelf so my total was $13.30.
I told the perky gal at the self-checkout, she offered to take one of the bags off my bill(which would make both bags 50% off in essence)but then I said that wouldn't work for me as I couldn't get all 5 of my $1 Ibotta rebates, just 4.
So I paid the $9.80 at the self-checkout and went over to the customer service desk to get a refund on those 2 bags instead.  A bit more of a hassle but hey!, it meant I'd get all 5 Ibotta rebates so worth it.

The CS person handed me back $5.24 in cash.  I forgot that I'd get a full refund on the first bag I bought and then $1.74 back on the second bag that rang up incorrectly.
So now my OOP was $13.30-$5.24=$8.06 and I've already gotten the $5 Ibotta rebate so all 5 cost me $3.06

Nice. 8-)))

I am waiting for the MOM rebate to come back on my Ibotta list and I'll go get more if/when it doesn and there is still any clearance bags of cereal.  Even if I can't get the varieties Ex-College Boy wants I can get others and donate them to the local food bank.
Kid-type cereals is one of the most requested items, at least at our food bank it is.

This Week on the Dining Table

The "WTF?  It wasn't me!" Edition.........

At least once or twice a week here, the local news has a report about a car driving into a building.....a business, a house, same difference.  A few years ago I had gone to my Rite-Aid about 10 minutes after a customer's car plowed into the building on the other side/front of the store.  A friend/worker was standing at the register when it happened and the racks of cigarettes against the window/wall fell on him.(He was fine, just a little shook up.)
So it was NO surprise when I went up to Rite-Aid last week and saw this.......

The side of the building clearly had been hit, by a blue car due to the paint marks left on the lower part of the wall.  I don't usually park on this side so no, it was not me.  Besides my car isn't blue. lolz
I am surprised that this incident never made it onto the local newscast.  I guess there were other building/car accidents that did more damage that week.

Moving On....

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned--

1. Sunday--Korean Beef BBQ, stir-fry Broccoli, Ramen Noodles
2. Monday--Dirty Rice w/Andouille Sausage and Red Beans
3. Tuesday--Lobster Ravioli in Alfredo Sauce, Tossed Salad
4. Wednesday--Pasta w/Turkey Italian Sausage Sauce
5. Thursday--Pork Chops, Green Beans, Sweet Potato Fries
6. Friday--Assorted Leftovers
7. Saturday--Taco Con Queso Casserole

And this is what actually happened--

1. Sunday--Korean Beef BBQ, stir-fry Broccoli, Ramen Noodles
2. Monday--Dirty Rice w/Andouille Sausage and Red Beans
3. Tuesday--Lobster Ravioli in Alfredo Sauce, Tossed Salad
4. Wednesday--Lasagna Hamburger Helper, Green Beans
5. Thursday--Tempura Shrimp, Crab Cakes, Cole Slaw, Baked Sweet Potato Fries
6. Friday--Rigatoni w/Mushroom Pasta Sauce
7. Saturday--Leftovers

Last week saw 6 nights of home cooked dinners, 1 nights of leftovers/fend for yourself, 0 nights of Eating Out/Take-Out.
Everything as planned until Tuesday then the wheels fell off the bus. lolz
I had fresh mushrooms to use up and found a hunk of ground beef and some shrimp in the freezer that were older than the pork chops and Italian turkey sausage I planned to defrost and use.  By Saturday we had lots of leftovers so no taco casserole that night.  Everything planned and not used will move to this coming week's plan(unless I feel like cooking something else lol).

What got put into the freezer last week.....
*  1 lb ground Chicken
*  1.5 lbs raw Shrimp(meat discount sticker deal at Weis)
*  2 bags of Perdue Chicken strips

What got taken out of the freezer and used last week.......
* A small London Broil(for Korean BBQ Beef)
*  Frozen Broccoli
*  Andouille Sausage(for Dirty Rice/Beans)
*  3 packs Lobster Ravioli
*  Green Beans
*  small "hunk" of Ground Beef
*  half a bag of  raw Shrimp
*  4 handmade Crab cakes

 Lots of little grocery trips..... smallish trips to Weis($15.79), a trip to Ollie's($4.01), a trip to Big Lots($9.37)brought the weekly food spending to $29.17 and brought the February monthly grand total to $348.86.
Two trips to Weis at the end of the week in March brought the March monthly total to $66.70 so far.

My savings percentage last week(March)was 47.02%(without Rite-Aid trips)and March's monthly savings total comes to 47.02%(w/out R-A).

I have 27 more spending days in the month.

Leftovers going into this week....Dirty Rice w/Sausage and Beans, Korean Beef BBQ Stir-fry w/Ramen, Rigatoni w/Mushroom pasta sauce.

Here is this week's "food plan".....

1. Sunday--Pork Chops, Green Beans, Mushroom Risotto
2. Monday--Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches
3. Tuesday--Taco Chicken Casserole, a Veggie TBD
4. Wednesday--Corned Beef, Cabbage, Carrots, Taters
5. Thursday--Leftovers
6. Friday--Chicken Strips, Mac and Cheese, Tossed Salad
7. Saturday--Leftovers

This week will see 5 new meals cooked, 2 nights of leftovers/FFY, and 0 nights of Take-Out/Eating Out.
I am doing the Corned Beef this week since Hubs and I won't be home on St. Pat's day week.  The kids will have Corned Beef dinner leftovers they can heat up or remake to eat then.
Lots of cooking but hopefully the 2 nights of leftovers will use up most everything so I don't have to worry while we are gone that the kids let food rot(since they don't generally eat leftovers).

What needs buying for this menu? Cabbage and milk basically.  I'll get some free yogurts(w/sale and Qs) and a head of cabbage before Thursday's ad change and then the Weis freebie and some cheap(w/sale and coupons)Birds Eye chicken dinner kits on Friday-easy kid's food(just add chicken).  Mostly I'll leave them some cash for buying what they need/want while we are gone and hopefully they won't just go buy pizzas with it. lolz

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

Sluggy
