THIS WEEK ON THE DINING TABLE

Still trying to relearn how to type/write with this hand so this is taking forever to write.  Posting after this one will be sporadic for awhile.

Corn Ribs??  Saw these at the Trader Joe's down here last Monday.

Onward to the meal planning!
This is what was planned for last week...........
 1. Sunday--No Plan
2. Monday--"   "
3. Tuesday--"   "
4. Wednesday--"    "
5. Thursday--"    "
6. Friday--"    "

2. Monday--Pizza
3. Tuesday--Steak dinner out
4. Wednesday--
5. Thursday--
6. Friday--leftover Pizza

What got taken out of the freezer last week....
 noting

What got put into the freezer last week....
* a bag of stir-fry veggies

Last week we spent $76.75 on grocery shopping.

Total shopping comes to $371.93 or July.   There are 2 shopping days left in July.

Rebate monies earned this month so far.....
I've earned $166.05 on Ibotta in July.
I've earned $17.50 on Shopmium in July.
I've earned $0 on Alexa app in July.
I've earned $13.00 on Kroger Cash Back in July.
I've earned $0 on TaDa in July.
I've earned $30.01 on Checkout51 in July.
I've earned $19.05 on Aisle, etc. in July. (Haven't gotten my Nature Valley rebate yet from June.)

I've earned a $15 virtual gift card from The Insiders.

That is $232.61 in rebates(not counting Shop Kick/Fetch/MyPoints/KCB/Alexa/Swag Bucks/The Insiders)on $371.93 of grocery spending so in reality it's $139.32 in food spending after the rebate apps I count. I now separate out the Food Bank donations and don't count those in the grocery spending.

My savings percentage for the last week was 37.33% and the monthly savings total for July comes in at 42.90% spent.

Leftovers going into this week...Beats me, I'm not home. lol

I'm not in charge up here.  My sister in-law had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago so she eats different and my brother is picky.  Meals are always an adventure and a surprise here. ;-)
I bought some salad kits and seafood so we cobble something together.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any deals on food at your stores this week?

This Week on the Dining Table

The "This is Getting Tiresome" Edition.

51 days in and I'm really getting tired of this eating plan.

I'll be eating some sugar-free Jell-O Wednesday as it's Prep day.  I guess a tiny bit of aspartame won't kill me.(I'll also be having chicken bone broth that day as well as "clear" liquids.)
I'm still making weight loss progress(albeit slowly since I can't move around very much), am in PT for my lower back issues, got a Neurology consult and meds(though it will take awhile to get them balanced)and am moving forward with both avenues available to get my knee replaced(at some point will need to decide on which one to go with but we aren't at that point yet).
My PCP is on board with this way of eating to reach a short term goal so no unsolicited advice on this eating plan please.  While I appreciate the concerns I am fine and I am losing weight.  I haven't had any sugar(other than a bit of honey in some hot tea)nor any white food.....bread, potatoes, rice, pasta since returning from the cruise on June 4th.  But I am holding fast to my plan anyway.....so far.

Onward to the meal planning!
This is what was planned for last week.......
1. Sunday-Zalad from Zaxby's, Watermelon
2. Monday--leftover ear of corn, a green bean appetizer for dinner
3. Tuesday--Protein drink, Watermelon
4  Wednesday--Teriyaki Stir-Fry Veggies w/Shaved Beef, yogurt cup
5. Thursday--1/2 a bag of Veggies(Broccoli?), yogurt cup, Watermelon
6.  Friday--Salmon, half of a Spinach Soufflé, Watermelon
7. Saturday--leftover Stir-Fry?

And here's what actually happened........
1. Sunday-Zalad from Zaxby's, Watermelon
2. Monday--leftover ear of corn, a green bean appetizer for dinner
3. Tuesday--Protein drink, Watermelon
4  Wednesday--Teriyaki Stir-Fry Veggies w/Shaved Beef, yogurt cup
5. Thursday--1/2 a bag of Stir-Fry Veggies, yogurt cup, Watermelon
6.  Friday--Salmon, half of a Spinach Soufflé, Watermelon
7. Saturday--Leftover Stir-Fry, Watermelon, 1 Apple
So what was planned actually happened for once.  Hooray!
I also drink, water, iced tea(unsweetened), and the odd zero sugar soda or Zero sugar Powerade/Gatorade and keep my stomach full and it also keeps me hydrated.  I mostly stick with the water or unsweet iced teas with lemon added.

This one mini-meal per day where I change between vegetable matter and a lean protein and a yogurt cup when these other meals won't suffice.  There also is a regime of supplements I am currently on, either to maintain my body's condition or were already taking them for various conditions.

I guess you'd call this an extreme intermittent fasting deal with many supplements to keep all my innards working and healthy.  I consulted a new PCP and my food plan was given the green light and my blood work came back aok. 8-)

What got taken out of the freezer last week...
*  3 bags of Stir-Fry Veggies
*  1 hunk of Beef
*  1 piece of Salmon
*  1 Spinach Soufflé

What got put into the freezer last week....
*  Nothing

Last week we spent $47.28 on grocery shopping.

Total comes to $308.26 for July(so far). More dog food, Jell-O, Protein drinks, Gatorade(for prep day), corn meal and assorted things we were out of.

There are 7 shopping days left in July.

I've earned $117.63 on Ibotta in July.
I've earned $13.75 on Shopmium in July.
I've earned $21.00 on Coupons dotcom.
I've earned $0 on Kroger Cash Back in July.
I've earned $0 on Checkout 51 in July.
I've earned 314 points from food shopping on Fetch in July.
I've earned 3,425 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in July.
I've earned 46 SB from food shopping on Swag Bucks in July.

That is $152.38 in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Fetch)on $308.26 of grocery spending so in reality it's $155.88 in food spending after the 5 rebate apps I count.

My savings percentage for the last week was 69.66% and the monthly savings total for July comes in at 39.57% so far spent.

Leftovers going into this week...nothing but a bowl of baked beans(Hubs).

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday-Protein drink, 1 apple
2. Monday--Watermelon, Roasted Broccoli and Carrots, Yogurt cup(maybe)
3. Tuesday--Chicken Parm, either more Yogurt or an apple
4  Wednesday--Prep Day, Clear Liquids
5. Thursday--?
6.  Friday--A dish with Shrimp, more Broccoli
7. Saturday--Yogurt drink, Collards or whatever is fresh at the store in the way of Veggies
I also drink, water, iced tea(unsweetened), hot tea with lemon and honey and the odd zero sugar soda or Zero sugar Powerade/Gatorade and keep my stomach full and it also keeps me hydrated.   I mostly stick with the water or unsweet iced teas with lemon added.
This one mini-meal per day where I change between vegetable matter and a lean protein and a yogurt cup when these other meals won't suffice is not hard to do once you get past the first 3 or 4 days.  There also is a regime of supplements I am currently on, either to maintain my body's condition or were already taking them for various conditions.

What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu?  Everything but the fresh veggies. Tomorrow I'll be making sugar-free Jell-O for a change and in preparation for Cleanse day, Oh Joy, Can't wait!! Hubs will eat the chicken and shrimp meals I fix(and may supplement with some carby dish too)but otherwise he's on his own. :-)

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any deals on food at your stores this week?  I confess that I don't need to buy anything right now nor have I had any desire to read the ads.

I didn't make the ham or pork teriyaki since we had enough leftovers and I didn't need to cook more food.

What got put into the freezer last week....
* Nothing

What got taken out of the freezer and used.....
* 2 halves of Turkey breast
* 1 hunk of Beef roast
* 1 bag of Green Beans

1 trip to Weis(PMITA)Markets by Hubs this past week brought spending to $22.6 brings my April Total spending on food so far to $22.66.

I've earned $6.10 in Ibotta rebates in April so far(mostly at Rite-Aid on allergy meds).

My savings percentage last week was 0%(without Rite-Aid trips)and April's monthly savings total comes in at 0% so far(w/out R-A).   Needless to say Hubs made the one trip to Weis, he didn't use coupons or look for sale items and paid full retail for everything he bought. *shudder!*

I have 24 more food shopping/spending days in April.

Leftovers going into this week.....a few Asparagus stalks, Beef Stroganoff, Rice, 3 large Turkey Enchiladas, 1 helping of Spanish Rice.

Here is this week's "food plan".....

What needs buying for this menu?
Maybe some milk and fresh fruit(as we only have a couple apples left).
The Risotto will use up the leftover asparagus, the Fajitas the mushrooms, and I have fresh Snow Peas to put into the Teriyaki dish(so we may have that earlier in the week but it will definitely get made this week).
Unless Hubs and Ex-College Boy hit the ham to make sandwiches this week we'll have enough leftover for another full dinner using it.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

The "We survived the Polar Vortex!" Edition.........

Yep, it's almost 50F as I type this and will hover in the 40's and 50's this week.  Quite the change from last week's -15F nightime temps. ugh.

My savings percentage last week(only January spending)was 67.05%(without Rite-Aid trips)and January's monthly savings total comes to 53.25%(w/out R-A) or 78.21% w/my Rite-Aid trips.

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Crazy Weather Changes" Edition--

We had some strange weather for February last week.  Three days in the 60's and we hit 74F on Friday.  Then this rain and hail storm and a tornado touched down in a town north of here Saturday.
On Sunday the temperature dropped to 27F.
The UP side of this is I loved having the heat off for 5 days basically last week and my electric bill will be much lower for February that it usually is(Feb. bill is sent to us and paid in March). This bill with the coldest temps of the year here is our highest bill annually but it won't be so bad this year thanks to Mother Nature.

Moving on......

The Daughter made Patty Melts instead of Burgers and I didn't do the Salmon or Ravioli last week.  Instead, I got a killer deal on tv dinners($1.87 each for the good kind and I got a cooking break)and I cut up and pounded that pork tenderloin I got for $3 last week into pieces for sandwiches another night.

As for the grocery spending.....1 trip to Weis  and 1 trip to the Bread Outlet brought the food spending last week to $72.64 and brought my February food spending total to $293.95 for the month.  There is 1 day left in the month but I am finished food shopping until March.
I actually stayed under $300 for February. 8-)

My savings percentages last week was 48%.

Leftovers going into this week.......Lasagna, 2 small Baked Potatoes, Corn Casserole and Macaroni Salad. I'll cut up/mash up the leftover taters with onions and make Hubs hash browns for breakfast one morning.

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Foreshadowing" Edition--

You know how Facebook dredges up past posts you've made there and asks if you want to share them again?

Mid December my Facebook page brought up a photo I posted there 3 years ago around Xmas time, which I have posted above.  It was from Xmas 1962 and I am modeling a nurses outfit I had gotten from Santa that year.  I was almost 4 years old.

Funny how 53 years later I'd actually be playing "nurse" again at Xmas time. 8-)

I also should mention that having this ornament on the Xmas tree this year was very apropos given Hubs' accident......

7. Saturday--Leftovers(I had kielbasa which I didn't eat on Friday.)

7 meals cooked at home, 2 of them nights of leftovers or Fend For Yourself, and 0 night of Take-Out/Eating-Out.
I used leftover Xmas roast beef and turned it into hash.  That was it for the leftovers from the previous week.

As for the grocery spending.....1 trip to Weis, 1 trip to the Bread Outlet, 1 trip to Target and 1 trip to the Shursave market bought the food spending last week to $97.64 and brought my January food spending Total to $97.64 for the month.(4 trips to Rite-Aid as well but nothing spent out of pocket there.)

My savings percentages last week was 65.02%.  The Bread Outlet savings rate and no OOP at Target(as I used gift cards that were free with credit card points)went along way to giving me such a high rate of savings. ;-)

Leftovers going into this week.......roast beef hash, chicken chili and taco filling.

Here is this week's "food plan"....
* Denotes "complicated" meals

1. Sunday--Marinated Flank Steak, Green Beans, Au Gratin Taters

What I need to buy for this menu? Salad Greens
I think that's it.  I will do a stock-up on cheese this week.

This Week on the Dining Table

It's the "Cleaning Up and Out" Edition--

It seems like all I did this week was clean.  But afterwards I looked around and nothing looked any better for my efforts!

Here is a success story from this weekend.....Hubs workbench in the garage.  I have been after him to clean/organize this for FIFTEEN YEARS!!!
It finally happened this weekend.
He finally got so fed up with not being able to find anything in/on/near it that he cleaned it out.
Stuff got moved if it shouldn't have been here and stuff got thrown out.
What was left got organized.
And I helped a bit since I was out there organizing/cleaning the stockpile shelves anyway.

Onward to the meal planning!

Here's what was planned last week.......

1. Sunday--BLTs for lunch, Leftovers(I had squash and cornbread)for dinner
2. Monday--We might dine out, otherwise Leftovers
3. Tuesday--Chili, sauted mixed Veggies
4. Wednesday--Barbecue on Rolls, Cole Slaw
5. Thursday--Salmon, Scallops, sauted mixed Veggies
6. Friday--Lobster, boiled Potatoes, Corn on cob
7. Saturday--Hot Dogs, Potato Salad

And this is what actually happened--

1. Sunday--BLTs for lunch, Leftovers(I had squash and cornbread)for dinner
2. Monday--Chinese take-out
3. Tuesday--Barbecue on Rolls, Zuke in tomato sauce
4. Wednesday--Hubs had leftover Chinese, I had a big salad and garlic bread
5. Thursday--Grilled marinated Pork Chops, Leftover Cornbread, Leftover Squash Casserole
6. Friday--Chinese take-out It's our Anniversary!
7. Saturday--leftover take-out

Chili moves to this week, I didn't buy any lobster and even the hot dogs didn't happen.  I thawed pork chops, we had take-out TWICE and then we ate nearly all the leftovers in the fridge.

As for my grocery spending last week.....5 trips to Rite-Aid and 4 trips to Weis made $64.92 flow from my pockets.  Not bad considering I bought a TON of foodstuffs last week(mostly pickles, cheese, condiments, sour cream, bbq sauce, salad dressing and Kool-aid plus marked down meats).
August food spending now stands at $469.96 in a month where I set a $350 food budget.
bleh.

Leftovers going into this week--a little barbecue and a little zuke in tomato sauce.  The bbq will get put into the freezer and the zuke will get eaten tonight.
I have a big bag of fresh mixed veggies and 2 bags of collards to use this coming week.

Here is this week's food plan--

1. Sunday--Collards, leftover zuke in sauce, fried Flounder
2. Monday--Spaghetti and Meatballs, Zuke w/Tomato sauce, Garlic Bread
3. Tuesday--Mixed veggie Stir-fry, Garlic Soy chicken(using grilled chicken leftovers), Rice(for Hubs)
4. Wednesday--Chili(Hubs will have rice too)
5. Thursday--?
6. Friday--?
7. Saturday--?

I have company coming sometime after Wednesday, but I don't know when they are arriving and for how long, so I don't have a plan yet.  Might buy something to cook, might cook what I have, might go out to eat.
Not sure yet.
Read the blog later this week to find out. ;-)

What I need to buy for this menu?......nothing.  After organizing the garage stockpile I find I am out of panko crumbs so I might buy those this week if the price is right.  Otherwise that can wait.
No great deals in the store ads this week so I don't foresee any grocery spending here unless I need to run out for something later in the week.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten that week?

This Week on the Dining Table

It's the "Boy Did I Have Some Energy!" Edition--

Usually when I get home from traveling I am a slug and don't want to do anything besides the basics.
Not this time!
We picked up  fresh farm produce and reduced meats on the way home and I marinated veggies and steak and put up 3 bags of green beans that evening.  Then I made peach jam the next morning.  Today I have to blanch and freeze the rest of the corn on the cob I bought too.  This week may also find me getting more green beans to prep and put up for winter too as the beans are cheap and nice looking right about now around here.

By the end of this week between harvesting/putting up veggies and getting College Boy packed up to go back to school I may collapse.  Stay tuned to see how it all turns out.... ;-)

Onward to the meal planning!

Here's what was planned last week.......

1. Sunday--Kielbasa(from the freezer), rolls, onions, pickles
2. Monday--crab cakes and fish, leftover cole slaw, leftover stir-fry veggies
3. Tuesday--leftover roast chicken made into something TBD, grilled yellow squash
4. Wednesday--maybe Chinese take-out or "breakfast for dinner"
5. Thursday--eating out
6, Friday--eating out
7. Saturday--leftovers(risotto?)and veggies

And this is what actually happened--

1. Sunday--Kielbasa(from the freezer), rolls, onions, pickles
2. Monday--crab cakes and shrimp, leftover cole slaw, leftover stir-fry veggies
3. Tuesday--leftover roast chicken, grilled yellow squash & onions
4. Wednesday--Chinese take-out
5. Thursday--Eating Out--Lunch-fish Sandwich/Fried Dinner-Steak Sandwich and Soup
6, Friday--Eating Out--Lunch-bbq Sandwich Dinner-Steak, Salad and Mac and Cheez
7. Saturday--Eating Out--Lunch-Chicken Salad Sandwich and Fruit Dinner-leftovers(I had hot and sour soup from my Chinese take-out)

We had a big dinner on Monday as College Boy was off from work and home for the meal. I also tried to use up some leftovers before and after we got home from Virginia last week.

Hubs was off on Wednesday(we didn't leave for VA until Thursday)so we pan fried slabs of the cheese grits, eggs and ham casserole thing I made for breakfast.  It tasted better but nobody is enamored of that dish so we'll probably toss the rest and I'll never do THAT experiment again. lolz

As for my grocery spending last week.....

I didn't even go into a grocery store last week until Saturday(Aug. 1st)on our way home from VA.
So there was no grocery spending last week of July and I've already posted my July Food Totals last Thursday.

Leftovers going into this week--risotto. The grits casserole gets pitched and everything else was eaten.  I'll probably throw the rest of the risotto into the freezer since no one seems eager to eat it this week.

Here is this week's food plan--

1. Sunday--Marinated Steak and Grilled Veggies, Corn on Cob
2. Monday--Chicken Parm, Green Bean Saute
3. Tuesday--Crusted Tilapia, Yellow Squash and Onions
4. Wednesday--Pizza and/or Wings at local place(I have a freebie Q)
5. Thursday--Leftovers
6. Friday--Spaghetti and Meatballs, Salad, Garlic Bread
7. Saturday--Leftovers or Hot Dogs and assorted leftover fresh veggies

What I need to buy for this menu?.....I don't need a thing.
The garden is giving up goodly amounts of squash now and I stopped at a produce stand on the way home near Bealeton VA and got fresh beans, corn, zuke, tomatoes(REAL TOMATOES!), cantaloupes and farm eggs....so I've already done my produce buying for this week. Plus I got some meat deals at a grocery store down in VA too on the way out of Fredericksburg so I've already spent this week.  I'll make a pot of sauce today to slather on the chicken parm and save the bulk to use for my spaghetti on Friday.

I haven't even looked at the grocery ads yet this week but if there are some loss leaders we can use I'll pick them up. Between the grocery meat deals and the produce stand I am already at $61.72 spent on food in August.  $288.28 left of the food budget to spend this month.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten that week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?
