Grocery Shopping Last Week

I didn't do a whole lot of food shopping last week-a trip to the Shursave Market, the Restaurant supply store and Ollie's(Good Stuff Cheap!).
First the restaurant supply store.......

I got in on a "group buy".  Every so often they send out an email for a special deal.  The only catch is it's usually a large quantity of something.  This one was a deal on a 10 lb. box of breaded chicken tenders(not nuggets).  $9 for 10 lbs.
Being one of ex-college boy's favorite foods(and a "go to" if he needs a quick snack/meal)I jumped on this buy.
I also picked up some items we were out of--2 dozen eggs for $1.59 each(of course the Shursave started a .99¢ sale on eggs today!), 3 cukes for $1.99, a hunk of liverwurst for Hubs and a 2 lb. bag of shredded mozz for $3.99(at least half the price of reg. retail around here).
$20.68 OOP for this trip.

I picked up a few things at Shursave Market as well.  My local Shursave doesn't take IPQs so while I was at Maines there is a Shursave over there that DOES take them AND doubles them up to $1, so I bought this........

3 boxes of cereal on sale for $1.98 each, used 3 x .50¢ Qs that doubled to $1 so each box was .98¢.

I also happened upon 2 dairy instant discounts-4 packs of Oikos strawberry greek yogurt were on sale for $1.99 per pack and these ones had $1 off instant stickers on them making them .99¢ per pack. The sell by date was coming up quickly but I have found that yogurt keeps months past it's sell by date(ssshhhh, don't tell!).
Those tubs of French onion dip were $1.39 after .50¢ instant discount stickers and are good to have when folks here want something to dip their salty snack in.
I also bought 6 strip steaks at my local Shursave store last week as they were $4.99 per lb.
$33.87 OOP for both these Shursave trips.

I didn't set foot in Weis(PMITA)Markets last week which is highly unusual!  There ads have been very small(really, a 2 page ad!!)and not much that's worth stocking up on, let alone buying any loss leaders.

Wednesday Shopping Deals

First off I went down to KMart for this..........

2 pair of pants and a top.
I had a Spend $30/Get $30 in SYW Points.  I also had $5.59 in SYW Points already on my loyalty card so after sale price on the top and using those Points and after earning $30 in new Points I paid $5.36.  Actually I used a KMart gift card I earned for transferring prescriptions to their pharmacy last year(or was it earlier this year?? I can't remember).  As that was free these clothes cost me nothing OOP.  I still have $24+ left on that gift card plus $30 in SYW Points on my loyalty card to spend. That $5.36 "spent" was the difference between the amount spend on Wednesday and what I earned back in points.
Got it? ;-)

The register also spit out this coupon--

So I'll be getting $10 more in points when I go back before the end of the year.

Then it was a trip to the nearby town's Shursave grocery store and I got this..........

After Qs and sale prices--
2 x Duke mayo=$3.98
2 x MM OJ=$3.00 (for CB)
2 x Philly cream cheese=$2.00
1 x 18 ct. eggs=$2.99
1 x milk=$1.68
2 x Lay's chips=$4.29 (for Xmas)
1 x Wheat Thins=$2.00 (for Xmas)
Total OOP....$19.93

We needed eggs as College Boy does eat them most mornings with a bagel or croissant(at the crack of noon).
Cream cheese is for CB's noontime bagel as well......as is the OJ.

Then while I was in that town I hit the Weis Markets to check for markdowns............

After Qs and sale prices--
2 x whole chickens=$6.21
2 x cottage cheese=$3.98
2 x Hormel no bean chili=$2.00
1 x Edwards pie=$4.00 (for Xmas)
Total OOP....$16.19

The chickens were marked .59¢ lb!!!  These are reg. retail at Weis here of $3.49 so my savings rate was 70.92.
Yay!
It was all I could do not to tackle the old lady hogging the meat case in front of the 5 chickens marked this price to get to one. lolz
Heck, if I had had the freezer space I'd have taken them all. ;-)

I shoved one into the freezer when I got home since it was still mostly frozen and I'll do something with the other fresh one this weekend....not sure what yet, maybe a simple boiled chicken dressed with sesame oil and scallions over rice with stir-fry veggies.

The chili goes into the stockpile and the cottage cheese is destined for 2 lasagnas-one to eat and one for the freezer.

Then I went back to my town to hit my Weis(PMITA)Markets where I found nothing in the meat department but there were produce and bakery markdowns..........

Not a single coupon used on this transaction.
Spend $6.80 and saved $6.85 so a 50% savings rate.

All the grocery shopping on Wednesday averaged out to a 59.86% savings rate.
Good deals!

I made a short film about this last trip--

The new sales ad at Wis starts today.  I won't be going in to check for markdowns as my freezer is about to overflowing so I have no more room for reduced meats.   Yes, I know it's a great problem to have. lolz

Next week's menu will be a lot of leftovers being used up as I have cooked a lot this week.  I just need goodies for our Christmas meal like carrots and a beef roast which I'll pick up a few days before Christmas, along with whatever deals I find when I go in to shop.

Weis has Domino sugar for $1.49 a 4lb. bag again and there are still Domino Qs online to print(and in the inserts).  I have to check on my sugar supply for making fudge as that takes a lot.  We don't go through much sugar except for fudge making and during canning season as I don't sugar my iced tea.
Crabmeat is suppose to be on sale for $5.99 an 8oz. container this week.  Crabmeat has NOT been on sale at all this past year here.  I'd love to make some crab cakes to put into the freezer or even try to make some crab soup for Christmas dinner.  We'll see.....

Weis is also running that Campbell's/Swanson/Pepperidge Farms Deal again-Spend $15/Get $5 off Instantly.  If it's still running off of reg. shelf price I can get 4 Stocks(or 5 Broths)and 1 can of soup and after $2 in Qs, after doubling(found at Campbell's Kitchen website)and $5 off Instantly pay $4 for all.
I've been using a lot of broth/stock lately making soups and stews so this might be a good thing to pick up.

Anyway......the total spend on groceries so far this week is $42.92.
We may just squeak by and stay under $350 on the food budget for December.

I Went & Spent Money....Or Did I?

After having my face all cut to shreds by the Dermatologist I went to use some of my Grocery chits that were burning a hole in my pocket.
And of course, due to some bad planning a had to spend a little bit of cash.
Sigh......

 At Weis(PMITA)I got.....
4 x Wheatables Crackers(for the holidays) on sale $2(With store Q and Must buy 4)=$8.00
I stacked 2 x $1/2 Peelie Qs so each box was $1.50.

1 x Simplait Yogurt on sale=$.50
I used a $.30/1 IPQ which doubled so I got paid .10¢ to buy this.

2 x Freschetta pizzas(this will be dinner tonight because I am hurting)on sale $4.99=$9.98
I used 2 x .75¢/1 IPQ which doubled to $1, so the pizzas were $3.99 ea.=$7.98/2

1 x Cabot Cheese on sale=$2.50
1 x Cabot Greek Yogurt=$4.29--it's cheaper than the store brand in qt. size
I used a $1/2 Cabot items IPQ, so the cheese was $2.00 and the yogurt was $3.79.

Subtotal was $19.67.
I used a $5 OYNO Catalina, $14.67
Then I used my 2 gift cards, 1 had $5, the other had $10, so the out of pocket was ZERO and I have $.33 left on 1 card.

At the Shursave market I got....
1 x Bag o' Romaine Salad on sale=$2.50
1 x ground beef=$5.85
2 x Stove Top stuffing on sale(.88¢)=$1.76
No coupons used so Grand Total was $10.11.
I used one of my $10 gift certificates to pay so out of pocket was......11¢.

8-))

The stuffing was for Thanksgiving.  I make a killer homemade stuffing with mushrooms, walnuts and other goodies.  Since we have people who can't eat nuts and won't eat mushrooms I also serve the boxes stuff for them.  I used to compromise my stuffing recipe and serve something watered down that we don't like but I don't do that anymore.
Life is too short, ya know?
If they don't like my stuffing, they can go make their own.....8-P

None of this I bought above  is what I need to buy for the Turkey Day meal however. lol
I still need celery, taters, parsnips and rutabagas.
But I still have another $10 food certificate which I will save to buy those items early next week.

I hopped into Rite-Aid today as well on the way to the dr. appt.

1 x Axe Gift Set on sale=$9.59(20% wellness disc. was lower than the sale price of $9.99)
2 x ID Gum on sale $1=$2.00
Subtotal.....$11.59

Coupons Used
1 x $2/1 Axe gift set VV AdPerk Q=$2.00
1 x BOGO ID Gum IPQ=$1.19(It took off the reg. price, not sale price, automatically)
1 x $.25/1 ID Gum VV AdPerk Q=$.25
2 x $1/1 Axe Load2Card Q(these came off automatically)=$2.00
Coupon Total....$5.44

$11.59-$5.44=$6.15 + .05¢tax=$6.20
I used $6+Up Rewards to pay and put the .20¢ on my gift card.
I received back $4 in +Up Rewards($3 Axe gift set, $1 wyb2 ID Gum).

So basically I got paid .44¢ to buy the gum packs and the Axe set "cost" me $2.59.
The Axe Load2Card digital coupons are for individual Axe items, not the gift set but they are coming off when you purchase the gift sets.

Both son's love this Axe stuff so I might pick up another one with the BIL's Wellness card.
I've got another $8 in +Ups I have to spend/roll/convert by Saturday so I'll be heading back to Rite-Aid later this week.

This trip--

Food Shopping Trip.....Don't Look SonyaAnn!

This will upset reader SonyaAnn....not because I got some ok deals but because of what I got the deal on.
Fortunately for her, she doesn't live near the store I got this deal from so it's all good. ;-)

I thought I'd be boring today and show you what I just bought at the grocery store.

First I have to show you this.....
This is a sheet of store coupons that was wrapped around my local independent ShurSave grocery flyer at the beginning of March.  It's a bunch of store coupons for items they carry and they are good for the entire month of March.
Now, always thinking moi realized that I should KEEP this flyer wrap of coupons and not throw them out when I threw out the sales flyer into the recycling pile.
And always thinking moi realized that I should grab about 12 sales flyers that week with this wrapper of coupons, so I would have 12 more copies of these coupons to hang onto and wait for these items to go on sale during the month, because only a couple of them were on sale the week the coupons were on the flyer.
I figured the store wouldn't keep printing the same coupons each sales week and wrap each week's flyer with them.....and I was correct!

So I clipped those coupons and set off to the store today.

Let's begin with this.....

I LOVE Blue Bunny ice cream.
The Cherry Bordeaux with dark chocolate chips is orgasmic!

But the grocery store hasn't had it on sale all month and it wasn't in the ad for this week either.
But there was a $3 WYB3 cartons coupon on that sheet.
And guess who saw a big old sign hanging on the ice cream case door--Blue Bunny on sale 3 for $10.
So after my $3 coupon I paid $7 for 3 cartons-that's $2.33 each?

I just may have to buy that second freezer this week..... ;-)

I also bought this.....
Instant Catalina Deal--Buy 7 select Heinz products, Get $5 off your order.

The Classico sauce was $2 ea. on sale.
The Bagel Bites were $2 ea. on sale. (For #2 Son)
The Ore-Ida onion rings were $3 on sale. (For #2 Son)
Subtotal of $15.
One of my store coupons was for Ore-Ida products, $1/1.
Grand total after coupon and instant discount......$9.00 for all 7 items.

Again, #2 Son has put in a request for more Bagel Bites and Sweet Potato Fries and you never can have too much pasta sauce so we'll seriously be needing that 2nd freezer.

I also bought this.....
2 x Salad Kits on sale $1.99 ea.(My lunch for the next couple days.)
1 x On-Cor Meat thing on sale $3.(I don't feel like cooking from scratch today.lol)
1 x block of Provolone Cheese on sale $2 (I never see Provolone cheese outside of the deli here and it's much higher than this price.)
2 x Gala apples on sale .99¢ lb.(I need these for a pie I am baking this week.)

I have a $1/1 store coupon from that sheet for the On-Cor as well, so that was $2 in the end.

All together, it was $51.43 worth of stuff for $24.85 OOP.  51.70% savings rate with just sale prices, store coupons and that instant cat deal.

I am just turning into a food spender, aren't I?
What good deals have you gotten lately?
