Using My Assets on Grocery Shopping & Thanksgiving Shopping

As I have said before I have various gift cards to deploy from now until the end of 2019 to get my grocery spending lower.

$12 HeartGuard prepaid card
$15 P&G prepaid Visa
$15 in free Target gift cards
$261.23 in reduced price Target gift cards
$25 Shursave gift card
$89.69 in Ocean State Job Lot free gift cards
That's $159.69 in free and $261.23 in discount chits.

So on Friday I went to Weis to do a few deals and pick up Turkey day essentials.
Here is what I bought..............

2 x Pepperidge Farm stuffing
4 x Swanson broth/stock
4 x Campbell's soup
5 x Weis canned veggies
2 x Hanover Charro Beans
1 x Weis pie crusts
2 x Domino golden sugar bags
1 x Weis paper plates
8.5 lbs. sweet potatoes

Total before sales/coupons/instant savings........$51.65
Total after sales/couopon/instant savings..........$19.03
I deployed THE $12 Heart Guard prepaid card so my OOP was only $7.03

Nice. 8-)))

The PF/Swanson/Campbell's(2 of the soups only)was "Spend $15/Get $5 Off" Deal so $7 after sales/Qs/Instant Sav.  The other 2 soups were .60¢ can after sale/Q.
The Weis veggies were .47¢ per can if you bought 5.  The Hanover beans were on clearance for .75¢ each.  The sugar was .49¢ per bag after sale/Qs.  The paper plates were the freebie item and the sweet taters were finally down to .49¢ per lb. so I stocked up on those.

I see that Target is going to have their "Spend $50 on Food/Beverage, Get a $10 Gift Card" Deal on Nov. 23 and 24th(Sat. and Sun. of next week)only.  There is also a $5 gift card when you buy $20 Frito-Lay/Pepsi products deal that you can stack with the $50/$10 Deal(if you use that sort of thing)to make your Target chits go a little further.

I peered down into the black hole of the chest freezer last weekend and found that I have 2 hotel turkey breasts in it's depths.  So those will be served for Turkey Day along with the usual sides instead of a whole turkey.  I also have a whole eye of round in the freezer so the meat for Xmas dinner is accounted for and I don't need to buy a fancy cut of beef or a ham for that meal.

I will be getting a free turkey(which will take up the space of those 2 turkey breasts)at Weis as I have over 400 points now.  I haven't bought $400 worth of stuff during the time frame that counts but I have done a feedback survey once a week which gives me 100 points each time so 3 surveys and the limited Wes shopping got me to the freebie. ;-)

The sweet potatoes, some stock, some soup, stuffing and pie crusts from this shopping trip were for Thanksgiving(ok, not ALL those sweet potatoes lol)so the only "needs" on the Turkey day list now are celery and rutabagas.  I'll pick those up closer to Turkey Day.

How's your Turkey Day shopping going?

My Boring Food Shopping Trip & Other Snoozing Things

4 bottles of apple juice
4 boxes of taco shells
5 boxes of mac and cheese
3 bags of salad *not pictured*
1 bunch of celery *not pictured*
2 containers of mushrooms  *not pictured*

The apple juice, taco shells and mac & cheese were at their lowest price book price(.99¢, $1.25, .60¢ respectively) and were stock-ups.
The salad was at the lowest price of $1.99, the celery at low of $1.29 and the mushrooms at low of $1.99.
Mushrooms were necessary for a meal this week.
$23.20 spent.
$41.31 regular retail cost.

Weis has some Catalina deals this week but I seriously doubt I'll take part in those.  One is for junk food, the other is for pet food.  We just opened our last 2 large bags of dog food into the can which means our stockpile of that is gone.  I am risking having to buy the next batch for reg. retail by not stocking up.  Yes, this is how I live dangerously.....by NOT buying dog kibble.lol

I'll be getting more juice, more taco shells, more salad and some canned green chilies this week instead.

And I won't be going to Rite-Aid again this week.  I haven't been to Rite-Aid or any drugstore for that matter since mid March!   I don't have +Ups expiring and there is nothing I need, so why buy more toiletries?
I have put myself on a ban from buying the usual toiletries until what I have is gone.  Ok, so it's more a ban so the KIDS use up what we have.  If I go buy....or more accurately "get" more since I don't pay money for it....if I go get more the kids will use the new stuff instead of using the old stuff.
They just don't get this whole "rotate the stock" deal.  So we are on Toiletries Lockdown teens.....deal with it!

I don't need to shop, even much grocery shopping.
So I don't.
And I grocery shop close by in town.  No trips down the mountain to Wegman's or Price Chopper or CVS or Target or Walmart.  Just Weis or the independent market in my town.
I hardly ever leave town.
Heck I hardly ever leave my house lately!

It keeps me from spending money unnecessarily....which is a good thing.
And I save gas.  I bought gas almost 4 weeks ago and still have a full tank.  I think I've put 20 miles on the car in the last 3 weeks.

But it gives me nothing to write about.

I could show you a list of what food I bought in April......
or I could show you the bag of weeds I pulled up trying to clean the front flower bed.

Nevermind.
Sometimes being frugal and living simpler isn't exciting or interesting.

I apologize for being THIS boring! 8-(

So can you top me in the boring department?

Food Shopping Trip.....Don't Look SonyaAnn!

This will upset reader SonyaAnn....not because I got some ok deals but because of what I got the deal on.
Fortunately for her, she doesn't live near the store I got this deal from so it's all good. ;-)

I thought I'd be boring today and show you what I just bought at the grocery store.

First I have to show you this.....
This is a sheet of store coupons that was wrapped around my local independent ShurSave grocery flyer at the beginning of March.  It's a bunch of store coupons for items they carry and they are good for the entire month of March.
Now, always thinking moi realized that I should KEEP this flyer wrap of coupons and not throw them out when I threw out the sales flyer into the recycling pile.
And always thinking moi realized that I should grab about 12 sales flyers that week with this wrapper of coupons, so I would have 12 more copies of these coupons to hang onto and wait for these items to go on sale during the month, because only a couple of them were on sale the week the coupons were on the flyer.
I figured the store wouldn't keep printing the same coupons each sales week and wrap each week's flyer with them.....and I was correct!

So I clipped those coupons and set off to the store today.

Let's begin with this.....

I LOVE Blue Bunny ice cream.
The Cherry Bordeaux with dark chocolate chips is orgasmic!

But the grocery store hasn't had it on sale all month and it wasn't in the ad for this week either.
But there was a $3 WYB3 cartons coupon on that sheet.
And guess who saw a big old sign hanging on the ice cream case door--Blue Bunny on sale 3 for $10.
So after my $3 coupon I paid $7 for 3 cartons-that's $2.33 each?

I just may have to buy that second freezer this week..... ;-)

I also bought this.....
Instant Catalina Deal--Buy 7 select Heinz products, Get $5 off your order.

The Classico sauce was $2 ea. on sale.
The Bagel Bites were $2 ea. on sale. (For #2 Son)
The Ore-Ida onion rings were $3 on sale. (For #2 Son)
Subtotal of $15.
One of my store coupons was for Ore-Ida products, $1/1.
Grand total after coupon and instant discount......$9.00 for all 7 items.

Again, #2 Son has put in a request for more Bagel Bites and Sweet Potato Fries and you never can have too much pasta sauce so we'll seriously be needing that 2nd freezer.

I also bought this.....
2 x Salad Kits on sale $1.99 ea.(My lunch for the next couple days.)
1 x On-Cor Meat thing on sale $3.(I don't feel like cooking from scratch today.lol)
1 x block of Provolone Cheese on sale $2 (I never see Provolone cheese outside of the deli here and it's much higher than this price.)
2 x Gala apples on sale .99¢ lb.(I need these for a pie I am baking this week.)

I have a $1/1 store coupon from that sheet for the On-Cor as well, so that was $2 in the end.

All together, it was $51.43 worth of stuff for $24.85 OOP.  51.70% savings rate with just sale prices, store coupons and that instant cat deal.

I am just turning into a food spender, aren't I?
What good deals have you gotten lately?

Gravy....It's Not Just for Breakfast Anymore

Back to Weis for some necessities......oh yeah, and more gravy.....

2 x Texas Toast Croutons on sale $1.25(since I need something to go with my blue cheese dressing=$2.50
4 x Breakstone Sour Cream on sale $1.50=$6.00
2 x OS Cranberry glop on sale $1.25=$2.50
1 x Yeast on sale=$1.50

2 x Swanson Broth on sale $2.00=$4.00
8 x Campbell's Gravy on sale .50¢=$4.00
SubTotal.....$24.50 ($41.59  reg. retail)

Coupons Used
2 x .50¢/1 Texas Toast Croutons IPQ(doubled)HERE=$2.00
2 x $1/2 Breakstone Sour Cream IPQ HERE=$2.00
1 x $1/2 OS Cranberry item IPQ HERE=$1.00
1 x .40¢/1 Fleischmann's Yeast IPQ HERE(doubled)=$.80
2 x .55¢/1 Sargento Cheese IPQ(doubled to $1)HERE=$2.00
1 x $1/2 Swanson Broth IPQ HERE=$1.00
Instant Discount on the Swanson/Campbell's items=$5.00
Coupon/Savings Total=$13.80

$24.50-$13.80=$10.70 OOP
That's a 74% savings rate over retail.
Oh, and I received a .50¢ Catalina Q for buying the Yeast.  I would have bought more but that was the last strip in the store.  (I'll get .40¢ back from Saving Star on this purchase too.)

The gravy and broth cost me $2.00 OOP.  Buying that broth upped my gravy cost to .20¢ per can in that order, so $1.60 OOP on just the gravy.  Broth is expensive bought in a container.  I'll stick to boiling my meat bones and skin and making my own to stick into the freezer for later.

We are up to 48 cans for the food bank.  If I take that .50¢ Catalina Q I can get 11 more cans of gravy for ZERO OOP tomorrow morning before heading over to the food bank to drop all this off.
59 cans does sound much nicer than 48 cans, dontcha think?lol

Stay tuned for updates as this story develops..... ;-)
