Wow...My Mouth is Hanging Open

I like Candace Owens.  Have for awhile.
A bit ago Janet Jackson made some allegations about Kamala Harris(about how she went after her brother Michael Jackson when she was a prosecutor in CA and about the fact that Kamala is NOT black-the majority of her Jamaican family is white and descended from Irish migrants who were slave traders, etc.  Her father looks like a white man and is a marxist).

Well after the press went after Janet Jackson for voicing all this Candace Owens took up for Janet Jackson and began delving into Kamala Harris' genealogy to try to get to the truth.   And you all KNOW how I love genealogy! lol  So I was hooked on this journey into her ancestry and it has been  revealing some interesting facts about Ms. Harris on Candace's Podcasts.  Then things got weird.

Do you know Kamala wrote a book in 2019, back before her brief run for the presidential nomination in 2020 called "The Truths We Hold".

Candace uncovered that two of the photos in the book are frauds.  Both of them have Kamala pictured with her grandmother who appears to be very very dark.   This supposed  grandmother died 4 years before Kamala was born.  WTF?  The photos is either photoshopped or photos of her with her Jamaican family's help who were very black.

Word got out that someone was questioning the authenticity of her book/photos so the publisher pulled that edition and deleted the photos in question.  What?!?

Now Judge Joe Brown(remember him from TV?  He was a real Judge in California)has appeared on Candace's podcast with some very interesting tidbits of info.

Think what you want, but this candidate smells like last week's fish to me.

I just want to get the word out for people to hear so they can make up their minds after hearing all this.

To-Do List....How I Did for May 2024

My To-Do List and how I did......

*  Pay Bills  DONE  Always paid first and early or on time

*  Have Bloodwork Done  DONE  Had labs drawn before I saw my PCP in May.  Everything was good.

*  Start Shoulder PT  DONE  Started and continued through May.

*  Go to 3 Dr. Appointments  DONE  It seems all I do is go to medical appointments.  Saw the PCP, Orthopedic Doc and medical safari to MS to see my Dermatologist.

*  List 12 Items to Sell  FAIL  I just didn't get to this.

*  Take Box to One Kid  DONE  I drove over and left it on the front porch as Daughter didn't even have the courtesy to answer the door.  So I taped a note to her front door and she has made no attempt to contact either of us.  Sad.

*  Finish Arrangements for Trip and Cruise  FAIL  Well, I finished paying for the cruise but we still have to make plans for the flights out to Idaho.

*  List 2 Items on Facebook Marketplace  PASS  I DID  list 2 items on FB Marketplace.  I listed the two derelict boats in the back 40 that the previous owners left here.  I put them up for free.  We don't have the titles to either of these boats but previous owners have not made any attempts to come get them(so they have been abandoned here).  I got deluged with folks wanting one or the other or both, even in the bad conditions they are in and one of the boat trailers has no tires on it.  So Hubs looked up what is involved with actually selling/giving them away legally and it's quite a lot of paperwork involved so we are going to find another way to get rid of them where we don't have to pay fees and such to the state.   So I DID list them but we still have them. 8-((

*  Go Through Old Photos  PASS  I had to go through photos in order to put photos in Daughter's box.

*  Contact Lawyer with Changes  FAIL  Ran out of time before we left.

*  Read/Finish Two Books  FAIL  Just hadn't felt much like reading.  Some days it's hard to hold a book still enough to read words with this danged Essential Tremor.

*  Buy Stuff for House(Always)  DONE  Hubs bought something, even if it was just kerosene for the burn pile. lol

*  Giveaway/.Donate Clothes That are Salvageable  DONE  I treated all the baby clothes I've been carrying around since the 1990's with Biz and everything that got cleaned went to Goodwill and anything too stained went into the garbage.  I gave each kid the outfit them came home from the hospital in and sent a box of boy clothes to my new Great Nephew, born in March.

As a Bonus I was able to donate some shirts and a new bra to Goodwill too. 8-)

*  Have Bone Density Scan  DONE  That wasn't much of anything other than laying on that hard "bed" at the scanner place.  ouch  Was done with that within 5 minutes and my bones all look dense and good.

*  Take Food to Food Bank  DONE

Everything pictured above got hauled to the Church Food Bank in May.

*  Edit More Photos  DONE  I got more photos on my computer edited but, I came back from the cruise with even more of those type of photos. I don't think I'll every get all these done.  lolz

*  Post About Old Trips  DONE  Worked on the 2017 Trip Out West and got near the end of that saga(finally).

*  Work on Genealogy  DONE  I was contacted by a 3rd cousin 1 x removed on Find A Grave, concerning some work I had done there putting up some memorials of relatives.  I didn't know she was my cousin until we got to corresponding about some errors in my FAG memorial placement.  Perhaps we'll stay in touch once we get this FAG issue hashed out.  We share my 3x GGrandfather Vassar but her Grandmother's maiden name is Snead and she is my 1st cousin 3 x removed too.  See what I mean about having a family macramé and not a family tree. lol

*  Buy Poly Mailers to Ship Fabric  DONE  I ordered and received the poly mailers.  Now I just have to photo and actually list fabric so I can sell and ship it. ugh

*  Photograph Fabric for Listings  PASS  I only got 3 pieces of yardage photographed before the month ended.

May turned out to be a busy month and June is about as busy.

Famous Distant Sort Of Relative

I come from a long line of Holt family on my maternal side.

My 8x Great Grandfather was Richard Holt(1641-1693).  Through him my Seventh Cousin 2 x Removed is a William Tatum "Buster" Holt, Sr.(1987-1963).

At some point before he died "Buster" Holt went and married Jackie Jean "Georgia" Crouch.  "Georgia" Crouch was known as "Georgia" Holt.  Georgia Holt was the mother of Cher.

This makes Cher the stepdaughter of my 7th Cousin 2 x Removed. So I got you babe. lol

March 2024 To-Do List....How I Did

Here is my March To-Do List and how it all turned out.  Sorry it's a month late.  Stuff happens. ;-)

MARCH

*  Pay Bills  DONE  Always first and foremost

*  Go to 5 Dr. Appointments  DONE   Saw my Orthopedist,  I also got sent for shoulder MRIs at the end of March after insurance approved those tests.  I also was sent for 2 MRIs by the Neurologist(not that he cares or ever gets back to me about any tests).

*  Have Shoulder Injections  DONE  The Orthopedist injected both my shoulders in the bursa sac.

*  Send Package to Brother  DONE

*  Begin Going Through Merchandise to Sell  PASS  I pulled out some fabrics to sell on Etsy.

*  Send Boxes to Two Kids  PASS  Sent a box to youngest and stuff in there for Oldest he will pass on to him since I have no contact with him.  Still have to get a box to Daughter.

*  Start Packing for Cruise  PASS  Started packing and got most of it done before April began.

*  Make Appt. w/Old Dentist  DONE  After the disaster with attempting to use the Dental Discount Program that came with my Medicare Supplement, I decided to go back to our old dentist.  Had a cleaning and a couple of dental x-rays done.

*  Go Through Old Papers  PASS  I've gone through many of them but there is more to plow through in April and/or May.

*  Contact Lawyer about Will Changes  FAIL  I didn't get around to do this.

*  Read/Finish Two Books  FAIL  I had good intentions but this one got away from me.  I just haven't felt much like reading books.

*  Buy Stuff for House(Always)  DONE  Hubs bought "stuff".  I have no clue. '-)

*  Order Biz then Wash Baby Clothes  DONE  Evidently they don't sell Biz anywhere I can find on the Eastern and Central part of the US so I jumped on Amazon and had it delivered to my door(mailbox actually).  Kim swears by the stuff to whiten old wedding gowns of her clients who want to use their mother's or such gown.  I tried it on a bunch of old baby clothes I still had from when my children were young to try to get spit-up and other stains off of them.  It worked like a charm!

*  Giveaway/Donate Baby Clothes That are Salvageable  PASS  My Sister in-Law's Grandson and his GF had a baby boy in March so I shipped off a big box of baby clothes to them along with a small gift.

*  Start New Donation Box  DONE

*  Try to Hem Some of My Clothes  DONE  I got two dresses shortened and hemmed.  I only brought one of them on the cruise however.

*  Edit More Photos  DONE  Just when I think I've caught up, we take another trip and I have a big photo dump. lol

*  Post about Old Trips  DONE  Been working on posting the Western Road Trip STILL!  Will it ever end??

*  Work on Genealogy  DONE

*  Take Items to Goodwill  FAIL  Didn't get up to Goodwill in March.

*  Pick Out Fabric and Photograph to List  DONE  See going through Merchandise item above.

That's all I got done in March.

DECEMBER 2023 To-Do List

Here is how the TO-DO List turned out for December.  We had a lot going on last month and I really need to lay December to rest before heading into February. 8-)))

DECEMBER

* Pay Bills  DONE  Always at the top of my list of things to get done.

* Do Christmas Cards Early  DONE  I didn't send out many this year but I did get them all sent(plus a Birthday card)before we left town.

* Find a New Neurologist  DONE  My new PCP's office informed me that around here once you have a neurologist it's practically impossible to get a new one.  I explained that the one I was given was quite lax in contacting me and communicating any information to me and/or following up in any way with me and was always changing his mind(we need to do more tests, then no, we don't need to do more tests, etc.).   He does not instill confidence in me that he knows wtf is going on and there is always an excuse for these lapses in contact(he's out of the country, he has Covid and had to leave the hospital before putting my RX through to the pharmacy, then he was out of the country again-but I was on a waitlist and got offered a closer date for an appt. while he was supposedly out of the country that time and the last time in December he was again, out of the country dealing with VISA issues. oy vey!

* Go to a Ridiculous Amount of PT Sessions  DONE  Not really a ridiculous number of them really, only about 4 before we left the state for the Holidays.

* Have a Sleep Study  DONE  Was done and we all know the outcome of that already. yeah!

* Have Dishwasher Installed  DONE
Finally got on the handyman's schedule to get this done.  The HVAC/electrical folks we have a contract with wanted over $600 to install this dishwasher(which cost $400 at Home Depot).  Being a manufactured home it had to be hard wired in so HD wouldn't install it(or couldn't).  The handyman outfit charged $160.  Good deal.

* Finish Xmas Present Buying  DONE  Got everything bagged or wrapped and thrown into the car for the trip.  We gave Daughter and Son In-Law their presents once we got home.

* Celebrate Daughter's Birthday  PASS  I gave her a card and a gift card.  She didn't want me to take her out to eat or make her a birthday cake.  Suit yourself.

* Buy Stuff for House(Always)  FAIL  Other than paying to have the dishwasher installed I can't think of anything we bought to repair or had to replace in the house in December.  This is a GOOD fail I think. 8-))

* Finish Making Travel Plans  DONE  Obviously, this got done. lol

* Follow Up on Back MRI  DONE  This one was "iffy".  The NP said if the MRI showed I needed an injection I'd get one BEFORE we left on our trip.  There were calls back and forth about what kind of injection I could get(first I had to wait 3 months after the TKR for one, then I didn't)then the scheduler called and said they needed 2 weeks lead time which meant I could have it the day AFTER we left town. WTF??  Finally we got through to someone and the issue was if insurance(still on private health insurance at that point)approval didn't come through we had to accept responsibility for payment of $600.  Seriously?  They jerked us around for 10 days over $600 instead of telling us this outright?!?  So we said of course, we'll  sign for it..... Insurance pre-authorization came through in the end so we didn't have to fork over the cash but really?  I am so over the way in which medical care is handled down here.

* Go Through and Try On all my Clothing  PASS  Well I HARDLY got everything tried on, I concentrated on shirts as I knew the pants weren't going to pass muster.  Found some shirts that didn't make me look like a stripper(so low cut in front my bra showed), bought a shirt along the way at Buc-ee's and bought smaller pants at Walmart here before we left.  January and February it seems will see me finishing up the "Great Try On of 2024". lolz

* Edit More Photos  DONE  I'm trying to stay up to date on photo editing.

* Post about Old Trips  FAIL  While I didn't post a single Old Trip Post on the Blog in December(a bit busy with other stuff)I DID work on some trip posts as January posts show.

* Work on Genealogy  DONE  Always finding time for this hobby....sometimes it's a small amount and sometimes it's a lot of information gained.

* Move Video files to new computer  FAIL  I just ran out of time and the inclination to do this one.

* Go Visit Folks I Love/Like  DONE  I REALLY needed this trip!  I've been massively depressed living down here with no one for company but my dogs and Hubs, trapped in this house except going to medical appointments, PT and the grocery store. This trip had massive challenges at times(riding in a car for 3 days straight on the way up with a broken coccyx, climbing long staircases, a tense evening out, obnoxious hotel guests, freezing to death in bed while still wearing all my clothes, barking dogs in a hotel at 3 am, unsuitable hotel rooms, etc.)but I'd do it all again because the joys far out weighed the pain.

NOVEMBER To-Do List

What I planned to get done in November and what actually got done.......

*  Pay Bills--DONE  Always

*  Sign up for Medicare Medigag/Part D Plan--DONE  Got two plans though it required me to sign up for AARP(hate that group!)but those AARP branded plans through UnitedHealthcare were the best deal for my needs in this are.

*  Go to a ridiculous amount of DR appointments--DONE  Can't even remember how many now....Neurology, Sleep Medicine, Podiatrist....

*  Go to a ridiculous amount of PT sessions--DONE

*  Have an EMG/Nerve Conductive Study--DONE  Things didn't go well there and damn!  it hurt.  It was like being tasered but by medical people not the cops.  I failed the Nerve Conductive thing so they didn't bother doing the EMG.  good times.

*  Have Dishwasher Installed--FAIL  The handyman guy couldn't get to us in November to install it so it's been living in the ex-sewing room after Dixie decided to start ripping piece of the cardboard box it was in.

*  Clean and Organize Stuff in House--FAIL  Other than doing the bare minimum there has been no cleaning and organizing here.

*  Buy Stuff for the House--DONE  I am sure Hubs has been continuing his love affair with The Home Despot/Lowe's as he tinkers and replaces shit around here.

*  Have Fake Thanksgiving--DONE  Had fake Turkey Day with daughter and son in-law and their dog and cat.  We didn't get any leftovers to bring home.  I made yeast rolls and pumpkin pie as well as the raw turkey to contribute.

*  Do Something Fun--FAIL  I did nothing fun.  It's hard to have fun when you have no friends here.

*  Clean out Inserts/Coupon Envie--DONE  I am discontinuing this item as I hardly have/get paper coupons anymore.  The world is quickly turning digital.

*  Edit More Photos--DONE  Got more photos edited.  Haven't even started on the British Isles cruise photos from May.  I am so far behind. ugh

*  Post About Old Trips--DONE  If I remember correctly I got one whole post up in November from an old trip(still working on the Western Road Trip of 2017).

*  Work on Genealogy--DONE  As it so happens the PT guy has a first name that is usually a surname so I asked him how he got that name.  His Great Grandmother was a Mason.  I've got a ton of Masons on my mother's ancestry side.  Then he said his mother had been born in Williamsburg, VA so you know I had to dig into that. lol

I worked on his tree and added to mine along the Mason line and so far the closest we are related is straight 18th cousins.  We share a common ancestor in John of Gaunt, "The King Maker"(1340-1399), the Duke of Lancaster and the third son of King Edward III.  John's son, Henry IV, eventually deposed Richard II and took the crown.  All English monarchs to this day are descended from John of Gaunt.  Not sure if we share the same 18th Great Grandmother yet, as John had three wives(mine is his third wife).
I found some old photos of his ancestors on Ancestry(2 and 3 x GGs who he knew nothing about)and made copies to give him, as well as a high school yearbook photo of him, which the receptionist posted on the wall at PT.  So I asked if I got a family discount there since we are cousins. (No.)
He is a 4th cousin 8 x removed of George Mason IV(the famous George Mason-GMU, writer of the Bill of Rights, etc.)  I am sure we are related closer than 18th cousins but real genealogy takes time to do properly.  I know one of the succeeding George Mason's sisters married a Stith(John Stith-my 9 x GG, son of Robert Stith and Mary Washington)which ties us in an ancestral knot together-Stith and Washington lines are related to me too.  So funny.

*  Move Video Files to New Computer--FAIL  Didn't even try.

*  Thanksgiving Alone--DONE  We sat home on Thanksgiving and grilled steaks in  the cast iron pan and made baked Sweet Potato Fries in the oven.  Go us.

That's all I got.

To-Do List.....August 2023

Here's what got done(or didn't)in August......

Pay Bills  DONE  Always paid in full on time or a little early.

* Go to 2 in-person DR appointments  DONE  Went to see the Orthopedic surgeon and the Interventional Pain Dr.   Neither of which was very helpful.  The orthopedist keeps putting up roadblocks to surgery and the interventional pain guy is a joke.  He won't put me on anything for pain other than a weak muscle relaxer and half the dose of the prescription NSAID the ortho had me on while I was having PT for my back.  Really?  I might as well take an Aleve!  I don't get why they make you sign something promising not to sell your drugs, drug test you and count how many pills you have left at each appt. when they won't even prescribe anything that helps with the pain.  He tried to put me on half the dose of the anti-inflammatory med the ortho had me on.  Walmart called and said a month of pills would cost $1,996.86!  I was taking twice the dosage and it was costing me ZERO OOP.  WTF?  Then he tried to get a pre-authorization and my insurance company denied it.  Eventually he kept me on the dosage the Ortho was prescribing.  Insanity.....
When I get back from Ohio and surgery the interventional pain guy wants me to have an MRI of my back(Oh joy!  Another MRI)before he'll do anything that will help me.

I also went to a third doctor, a dermatologist, to treat my HS.  She was totally underwhelming and I have no confidence that she actually "treats" HS.  She never even examined me!  She certainly is not a specialist in it.  This office is more interested in giving Botox injections, removing moles and selling overpriced skin care products in their waiting room.
So I have set up an appointment with a "real" dermatologist connected with the U of Mississippi(there are no HS specialist in LA)for early next year.

Ok, this screed is over for now. '-)

*  Go to 9 PT appointments  DONE  I finished up the Physical Therapy for my lower back pain.  I'll be going back there for PT on my knee after the joint replacement in October.

*  Schedule TeleMedicine Appointment with Another Dr.  DONE  I had my Teledoc appt. later that same day I saw the local Orthopedic surgeon who kept gaslighting me.  Ohio Doc green lighted me for a TKA and put me on his schedule for surgery.  I feel much better in the hands of this surgeon than the local Ortho guy for numerous reasons.

*  Submit all Paperwork to Surgeon  DONE  I got all the paperwork submitted(so far)through the 3rd party Healthcare Organization for the surgery.  This month I have a few blood workups and an EKG locally and then need to have it faxed to Ohio and then the paperwork will all be done.

*  Clean and Organize Stuff in House  PASS  Still figuring out how to organize the pantry and where to put some other stuff.  I went through all my mom's jewelry and tchotchkes I inherited in August.  I am in the midst of distributing some of it to kids and putting some things aside for my granddaughter when she is an adult.(It will be put in trust until then as I have no relationship with my son.)

I have also started and am adding to a "Goodwill" pile to donate.  That's mostly clothes that are now too big for me and some odds and ends.

*  Buy Stuff for House  DONE  The only thing(other than Hubs buying odds and ends to fix shit)we bought was a kitchen counter top.  Still waiting for the handyman to work installing it and the new sink in the kitchen into his schedule.  In the meantime, the 10 ft. section of counter top is living on the floor of my sewing room.  Which is fine as I can't sew in my present state.

*  Schedule MRI  DONE  That was not fun. ;-)  Now to have my Neurologist let me know what it says.....3 weeks and waiting. grrr

*  Clean out Inserts/Coupon Envie  DONE  I think I'll take this one off my To-Do List because as my shopping habits have changed(and we no longer to coupon inserts in the paper here)there isn't much to this.

*  Edit More Photos  DONE  Grinding out more editing of photos so I can post about old trips.

*  Post about Old Trips  DONE  Currently in August I posted about our trip out West from 2017.  I posted 7 installments of that saga in August and I'm only about halfway through that month long trip.

*  Work on Genealogy  DONE  I am always working on honing and adding to the genealogy trees.  This is something I do when I have free time in between PT and Dr. visits and tests.

*  Purchase a/c Unit for Bedroom  FAIL  We didn't end up needing one so it's falling off the list for now.

*  Send letter for DRCHC CEO+ cc to 2 More State Medical Entities  DONE  Heard back from all the Medical Entities, sent a Complaint to the Federal Government about a HIIPA violation but decided, beyond that, not to pursue this clusterf**k any further.  Stick a fork in me, I am done with their mismanaged clinic and am moving on.

*  Move Video files to new computer  FAIL  This didn't happen in August.  I am still slogging through files on my computer and getting them in better order and/or deleting stuff I no longer need or duplicates.

*  Celebrate Anniversary  DONE  We celebrated 41 years married by going out to dinner at a pretentious/overpriced restaurant.  Not great but I didn't let it put a harsh on our day.

*  Wash Dogs  DONE  The puppies got bathed outside in their little kiddie pool.  They smelled so much better but they need another bath as I am writing this. lol

What did you get accomplished in August?  Let us all know....

Wash Tubs and Potato Holes-A Genealogy Story

Two of the more prolific(meaning producing many descendants)early settlers in the British Colony of Virginia was the married couple John Woodson and Sarah Winston Woodson.
Sarah Winston was born in Devonshire, England circa 1590 and John Woodson was born circa 1586 also in Devonshire, England.  John matriculated from St. John's College of Oxford  in March of 1604 at the age of 18 and was set to practice medicine.  Now remember that the science of medicine is nothing like it is today.  The 4 Humors and blood letting was the height of medicinal learning at that time. 8-)

Sometime before 1619 John Woodson and Sarah Winston wed in England.

John and Sarah then sailed to the Jamestowne Colony onboard the "George" along with Sir George Yeardley who was chosen to govern the colony after then Virginia Colony Governor Dale had returned to England in 1618. The "George" sail 29 January 1619 and arrived at Jamestowne in April of 1619.  John Woodson was asked to go to Jamestowne by the powers that be of the Virginia Company of London to doctor the soldiers and colonists.

So the Woodson couple was in Jamestowne or in one of the surrounding "Hundreds" during the 1622 Massacre but both survived that incident.
John Woodson prospered in his occupation trying to keep the colonists and soldiers alive.  They were to have two sons, John Woodson, Jr. in 1632 and Robert Woodson in 1634.  Both children were born at Flowerdew Hundred(a Hundred is a designation like a Shire(back in England)or a County which it was said came from the time of the Normans in England to denote an administrative district in which 100 soldiers could be commanded from hence the need arise.  Later these large acreages were called Plantations.
Gov. George Yeardley named this Hundred after his wife's wealthy father, Anthony Flowerdew of Norfolk, England.(George also named another Hundred after his wife's mother, Martha, who's maiden name was Stanley, thus Stanley Hundred.)

The 1622 Massacre saw only 6 people killed in Flowerdew Hundred.  Other Hundreds were not so lucky, Henricus, Martin and Smith Hundred saw few colonists survive or all killed and were abandoned.  All told the surprise attack of 1622 saw about 400 colonists killed(a third of the English population in Virginia at that time)and 20 women were kidnapped, who then lived and worked for the Natives until which time as they either died or were ransomed.

Going back in time a bit to explain what was going on by 1622........
The Native American Chief who became known as Powhatan died in 1618.  Powhatan was not his name.  It was Wahunsoacock or some variation of that spelling(actually native peoples had many different names but that's a story for another time).  He was supreme chief(also called a Weroance-an Algonquin word for leader)of about 30 different indigenous tribes in that area of Virginia by the time the English landed in 1607.  The English not understanding Indigenous Indian society called Wahunsoacock "Powhatan".  The Colonists and the Algonquin Indian Confederation under Powhatan lived fairly peacefully together(often called the "Peace of Pocahontas" time)and at times the colonists assaulted various Indian tribes in the Confederation to which there were repercussions.

There were 3 Anglo-Powhatan Wars-the first lasted from 1609 to 1614.  By 1618 Powhatan was dead and his younger brother, Opechancanough(Algonquin for "He Who's Soul is White")became paramount chief.  This chief was known as a fierce warrior and was opposed to the English being in the area.
I guess he saw what lay ahead if the colony prospered and started expanding.  This European concept of "owning" land was a foreign idea to the Indigenous peoples of the New World making Opechancanough no friend of the white man .  He was in charge and instigated the Massacre of 1622.  The white man called him "Chief Eagle Plume".

Between the events of 1622 and 1644 the colonists had built better fortifications around Jamestowne so invading the town and the peninsula it was on was difficult but all the Hundreds were vulnerable to the Native Indians as the colonists spread out from Jamestowne proper.

Here's a YouTube video to explain all this more....

In 1644 John and Sarah Woodson, along with their two sons, were living in Flowerdew Hundred when Opechancanough orchestrated his last major effort to eject the English colonists from the continent with the Third Anglo-Powhatan War.  This was a surprise attack on the settlements on April, 18, 1644.  On that fateful day, John then 10 years and Robert then 8 years would have been out in the fields tending to the tobacco crop except that a neighbor and shoemaker, Thomas Ligon, was there to measure to make footwear for the family(or so the oral tradition within the family goes).  Suddenly as Dr. John Woodson approached home after a house call to see to a sick patient, Natives set upon him and killed him as he rode on his horse toward home.  Sarah saw what was happening outside and bolted the door, grabbing a wash tub and covering John with it and shoving Robert into a rudimentary root cellar under the floor, telling them to remain silent.  Thomas Ligon grabbed the family musket over the mantle and took aim at the attackers, picking some off as Sarah dumped a pot of scalding water on others, built a smoky fire to keep anyone from coming down the chimney too.  When the natives retreated 7 were left dead near the home as well as Sarah's husband, John Woodson.

The Woodson musket is in the hands of the Virginia Museum of History and Culture in Richmond, Virginia.  It was an English Long Fowler"-meant for bird hunting or small game.  It's the top firearm in the photo above.

That's one version of the story.  In other's Thomas was a neighbor and heard the commotion nearby and rushed to help Sarah and her boys.  We just know that from then on the Woodsons and the Ligons had a familial connection.
And the two Woodson boys John and Robert, were known as "Tub" or "Washtub" and "Potato Hole" from then on.
Sarah Winston and Dr. John Woodson are my 10 x Great Grandparents an the younger son, Robert "Potato Hole" is my 9th GGrandfather.

Interestingly enough I am also a descendant of Opechancanough.  He is my 11th Great Grandfather if this research is accurate.

These two lines converge at ancestor Mary Burks Woodson.  Opechan Nicketti Mangopeesomon, so far as my research goes at the moment is my 10 x GGmother.  She had children with an Anglo trader named John Rice(or Rees spelling)Hughes.  Some link her to a Dodson man but the records in Charles County list John Hughes and among their children a Mary Elizabeth Hughes. I am at most 1/1000% native American.(1/1034 to be exact from this one pair of 11th GGrands(Nicketti Powhatan's parents)but there may be other bits too so I am going with 1/1000th% for now).  Through Openchancanough I have a teensy bit of Youghtanund and Pamunkey tribe in me even if it's not enough to show up in a DNA test. ;-)
If your family lines go far enough back in colonial Virginia you are almost guaranteed to have an ancestral connection(either direct, cousinry or through marriage)to a native American.

For Lana's Hubby & MIL

OK, since you commented on my genealogy post on Herndons, Arthurs, Pinkertons and James' I went down another genealogy rabbit hole about Jacksons.

Jonathan Jackson and Julia Beckwith Neale were the parents of 3 children, including Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson. Seems Jonathan Jackson, an attorney, died young of typhoid after nursing their child Elizabeth(who also succumbed to typhoid)and left his wife, Julia Beckwith Neale Jackson, a widow at the age of 28.  Julia gave birth to their 4th child, Laura Ann, the day after Jonathan died in 1827.

Julia and her children, Warren, T.J. and Laura were left destitute and in 1830 she remarried to another  attorney named Captain Blake Baker Woodson.  Mr. Woodson was like many men who don't wish to raise another man's children and he made his new wife sent her offspring away to live with assorted family members(Grandmother and unmarried Uncles and Aunt).  Then Blake and Julia had a son together named William Wirt Woodson in 1831 and Julia died of childbirth complications shortly afterwards leaving her three older surviving children orphans.

Blake Baker Woodson is my 2nd cousin 7x removed and his son, William Wirt Woodson is my 3rd cousin 6x removed but also the half-brother to Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson. 8-))

This is a photograph of William Wirt Woodson as a young man.  It is known that Stonewall Jackson and WW Woodson had some sort of relationship even though they weren't raised together as brothers as Stonewall talks about Wirt in letters. Stonewall wrote letters that survive to this day to his sister Laura and mentioned Wirt often.

Wirt's father Blake and his black heart got his in the end as he died in early 1833 when William Wirt was only 1 year old putting his "real son" in the same circumstance as when he had forced his late wife Julia to abandon her three older children.
So my third cousin was Stonewall Jackson's half-brother?

Awesome!
BTW--
There use to be a restaurant called "Lee's Retreat" at the Blue and Gray Brewery in Fredericksburg, Va.  They brewed a stout beer called "Stonewall Stout" and the bottle label had the slogan "I'd give my left arm for a Stonewall Stout!" hehehe  And if you know your American history you will "get it".

And yes, I have visited Stonewall Jackson's arm buried near Guinea Station outside of Fredericksburg, VA.

And Wirt must be a family name passed down the Woodson line as my maternal grandfather's given name was Wirt. 8-)))

To-Do List....Outcome for March

Let's see how I did with the To-Do List in March........

*  Pay Bills  DONE  Everything was paid off on time or early as usual.

*  Go to many Dr. Appointments  DONE  My last wound care appointment was March 22nd and those were weekly.  I also had biweekly home health care nursing every week until March 24th.

*  Do Taxes 3  2 Out Of  3 DONE  Since Hubs retired he's been handling doing the taxes but I do help with downloading and printing out forms, etc.  He got the Federal and the PA state finished and submitted.  We owed on both of those to the tune of approx. $400 total. Boo!  The LA state taxes aren't due until sometime in May so Hubs waited on those for now as we will owe them as well. 8-(((  Between moving expenses and taxes 2022 has been an expensive year!

*  Clean and Organize stuff in House  PASS  While I was still not able to walk around much most of the month I did as much as I could when I could.  While not able to finish much I did spend time thinking about what needs doing and writing a list to prioritize what needs doing.

*  Buy Stuff for House  PASS  While we aren't done purchasing stuff we have got some items acquired.  But as we get around to different rooms I know more purchases will pop up and decisions will have to be made.

*  Clean out Insert//Coupon Envie  DONE  As the months go on this is becoming more and more a non-chore.  I don't buy coupon inserts, we can't find a local paper that carries inserts that we don't have to drive a distance to get and I don't print many coupons any more.  I use mostly digital Qs now as that is the way the coupon world is headed.

*  Edit more Photos  PASS While this seems a never ending task I don't make as much progress as I want.  I suppose if I were to just STOP TAKING PHOTOS I'd catch up faster.  sigh

*  Post About Old Trips  PASS  While I haven't  posted much in the way of trips I have been working on editing photos, uploading video and working on posts but in March no posts got finished and to the point of posting them.  It's a process people.....

*  Work on Genealogy  DONE  Well this activity is always on going and will never be finished but I do work on it, at times it seems incessantly! lol  So many ancestors and so little time.

*  Go to Dentist x 1  DONE  So in March I had an appointment to have the first of two permanent crowns installed and they piggybacked another filling onto that visit and the work on the second crown.  More Novacaine, yippee!  At least this time due to the location of the tooth that needed drilling my nose didn't go numb and I didn't spew water or other beverage afterwards when I had a drink of something.  No more Hannibal Lecter impersonations. 8-))

*  Organize Clothes  FAIL  Didn't get around to working on closet organization in March.  The only progress was purchasing another box of hangers and moving a few items of clothing into the sewing room as they need altering.

*  Find a New Bank  FAIL  Well I only had a week in March at the end of that month to get out to do anything besides wound care visits so this didn't get accomplished.  We did phone or go online to research where to put the money and have decided on a local credit union so are ready to get this checked off the To-Do List in April.

*  Cash Savings Bond  FAIL  Again a big fat fail.  See item above as to why since our current bank will NOT cash or let us deposit US savings bonds, which I find so weird.

I'm giving myself a thumbs up for March due to circumstances out of my control(or rather stools out of my control). ;-)
I'm trying to get more things under control here but it's a long uphill road.

How was your March?  Did you make any progress on your "What I Want to Do" list?

The Pinkerton Line in America & My Ancestry Intersect

If you are a student of American History you will recognize the surname of Pinkerton.

Allan J Pinkerton, born in 1819 in Glasgow, Scotland, was a cooper by trade who left Scotland for America in 1842.  The timing of his departure from Scotland may or may not have had anything to do with his participation in the Chartist Movement in the United Kingdom at that time as he was a young man during it's heyday.

Pinkerton was a rather sloppy detective, playing spy among his ring of undercover information gatherers for the North during the War Between the States.  He went on after the war to form what would become known as the Pinkerton Agency and was working on a centralized criminal database at the time of his death that the FBI maintains to this day.  It is said that he died of gangrene having fallen on the pavement/sidewalk and thus nearly biting his tongue off, which became infected, leading to his  demise.  May be true or not(others feel a stroke did him in)but he died nonetheless.

As I've talked about before, I am related to Ellen Lewis "Nell" Herndon.

Post about her HERE.  Ellen was married to Chester Alan Arthur, the 21st POTUS but she died before he was the 20th VP under James Garfield and ascended to the Presidency when Garfield was assassinated.  However Ellen did give birth to three children before passing away-William Lewis Arthur, born 1860 who passed away from convulsions at age 2.5 years, Chester Alan Arthur II who lived 1864-1937(my chihuahua is named after Chester II's son Chester Alan Arthur III)and Ellen "Nelllie" Hansbrough Herndon Arthur who lived 1871-1915.  "Nelllie" Arthur is my 7th cousin 3 x removed........

To bring this back around not quite full circle, "Nellie" married a man in 1907 named Charles Downing Pinkerton(1871-1974).

"Nellie" Arthur Pinkerton died at age 44, leaving no heirs.  Charles remarried to Sarah Hunter Harrison in 1918 in Bel Air, Maryland.  First off  this second wife of Pinkerton is also my cousin as was his first wife,
"Nellie" Arthur...

This second wife and Charles Pinkerton's were 2nd cousins(haven't found the exact pathway yet there)and his second wife Sarah Harrison was also a cousin to Benjamin Harrison the 23rd POTUS(again, I don't have the exact pathway mapped out for their cousinry).

Here's a much younger portrait of old Ben Harrison.  Currently my line to his is showing up as thus.........
As I have a metric ton of FFV(First Families of Virginia)Harrisons in my maternal lines I am sure there is a more direct pathway from Ben Harrison POTUS to me but this is what I have right now.

But I digress.......
Back to the Pinkertons.  I have done pretty thorough research and the conclusion is that the Pinkerton that married my Arthur and my Harrison cousins is NOT the same line of Pinkertons that Alan Pinkerton is from.
Charles Downing Pinkerton's surname line goes back to Ireland, not Scotland.

But in a twist of fate(irony perhaps?)there is a connection between Alan J Pinkerton and my ancestry.
One of Pinkerton's greatest failures which haunted him through his last years was his inability to track down and kill one of my other ancestral cousins, Jesse Woodson James, after Jesse shot and killed one of the Pinkerton agents.  Pinkerton had what seemed like a personal vendetta against Jesse James since when the company that was paying him to pursue Jesse stopped paying him for his services he continued to chase him at his own financial expense.  Talk about holding a grudge! lol

But Jesse James, my 5th cousin 4 x removed, is another story for another time.
