Frugal Friday.....the January 12th Edition

There are a few Frugal wins these past couple of weeks so here goes....

*  Had the first doctor appointment on Medicare with my Medigap policy this past week.  I was all prepared to have to fork over a co-pay but asked the receptionist before I left and she said, "Nope, you don't have a co-pay."  Sweet!

*  Grocery shopping this past week for 2024....I already posted my Monday haul at Walmart.
I'll say we were a little 'shop happy' this first full week of January--picking up all the deep discounted Christmas stuff and replenishing our pantry.  My weekly grocery total will be large on Monday's post. 8-(

Here are some additional items I bought at Kroger last Friday......
Splenda was BOGO and had a $2.50 Ibotta on each box so $4.99 for both. (I wish that insert coupon had come out BEFORE I did this deal as it would have been even less $$!)
The chocolate(and butterscotch)chips were in a shopping cart at the front of the store and were all marked $1.00 a bag!  I showed remarkable restraint by only bringing 4 bags home. 8-)

There was also shopping at Home Goods last week....

We have been in need of a TP holder in the Master Bath since moving here.  As my right shoulder has issues(and has for over a decade now)having the tp roll in use on the toilet tank lid behind the seat was getting to me so we sprang the $14.99 on this holder of Home Goods.
Found this 2 pack of dish drying mats also at Home Goods on clearance.  We needed this so it came home with us.  Hubs also picked up some clearance jams there for his morning toast.

*  And the best shopping news....seems our town finally got an Aldi!  Shreeeee!  Seems it's near the Ollie's on the other side of town and it opened the end of November and my daughter never told me!! tsk tsk  There will be shopping there in my future........8-)

Then we went nearby and hit up World Market for some Christmas clearance.  At 60% off I got that rainbow Xmas tree, 2 holiday packs of assorted peppercorns(this was cheaper than one of their regular bag sof peppercorns!), a package of Pistachio Nougat candy(from Italy), 2 containers of tea(3 London icon containers and a big tin commemorating Queen Elizabeth 2).  I also found these dark chocolate bars filled with creamy Guinness ganache(love me some Guinness!).

We also hit a Walmart on that side of town and found some nice clearance finds at 90% off!  I can't show you more than this photo since some of it is destined for Christmas gifties for family and friends for this coming Xmas. ;-)

* We hit the Bread Outlet this week while we were over there.  We were down to 2 slices of bread in the freezer so we brought 4 packs of bread items and resisted all the cakes, pies and donut type items they have. rah.  I'd much rather spend $1.60 per loaf than $4.49 per loaf which is the regular price for these items at Kroger.  I just wish they were an outlet for Arnold's bread items instead. oh well......

I hit up a discount grocery store on Thursday and scored a few markdowns--a can of tomato sauce for .50¢, a bottle of Kraft dressing and a bag of Cole Slaw mix(not pictured) both for $1.25 and 2 bags of doggy treats, each at $1.25(Great deal on the doggy treats as those go for lots more at SRP.  They had 5 shopping carts of marked downs but we didn't need any more Cheerios or Oatmeal packs and the rest were really smushed up canned goods or Holiday candies.

*  I had Hubs use my Kroger points to bring filling his car's gas tank up down by $1.00 per gallon.

*  I received this in the mail......

A new Ollie's discount card to use before Feb. 19th.  I'll be starting a list to use that before it expires.

*  I also received a refund from the office of that horrible dermatologist I saw back in August.  I don't recall if I explained that dreadful situation but the front office insisted I had a $50 copay before this dermatologist would see me, even though I did NOT have a co-pay with my then insurance.  I figured I'd not see this refund check until well after the first quarter of 2024, even after calling and explaining and then sending a letter with documentation to their billing department in December.  You could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw that check arrive!
Now we get to jump through hoops on our end to get that refund put back into our HSA account which is still in a bank in PA. ugh.

I found Money!

On that moneymaker Walmart trip on Monday evening I found these 3 pennies as I was leaving the store, strewn past the checkout registers between them and the customer service desk.

The next day Hubs and I hit a different Walmart to check if they had any Christmas clearance left and to pick up one freebie.  I spied this Quarter as we approached the self-checkout machines.

* I also, at another store, spied a penny at a different self-checkout register but someone walked up to it before I could hobble over there and get it.  I told the gentleman about the bounty that lay under his machine so he could grab it before leaving his register.  Because I am nice like that sometimes. 8-)

Frugal Friday....the March 3rd Edition

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

There are a few Frugal win this past week......

*  On Monday I had to get out of the house.  So we hit a craft burger place/bar that does Trivia on Monday evening.  We ate at home and just got a beer and water.  Had We eaten here too it would have cost $50+.

*  On Wednesday we found a bread outlet and went to check it out.

$1.30 for a loaf sure beats $4.49 at the grocery store.  They even had some Dave's killer bread/bagels for $3.00 each.  Most of what we bought got put into the freezer.  Daughter loves strawberry shortcake and I got strawberries so if she makes it over for liver and onions on Saturday I've got dessert for her. 8-)

*  Hubs bought another interior door handle for the Master bedrooms to replace the exterior door handle that was on that door.   He also replaced the innards of the 2 sinks' faucets in that bathroom. Inexpensive to replace ourselves vs. paying a handyman and plumber to do this.

*  I found money!
Nope.  Skunked again.

Total Found in last Week.... .00¢
Total Found this Year....... .38¢

That's all for this past week.

Frugal Friday......the October 25th Edition

Here are the frugal wins of the past week here in Sluggy's World............

*  I received a prepaid Visa card for $12 from the Heartworm medication purchase for Dixie.........

*  I got the Weis Friday Freebie last week...............

A bottle of mustard.  Something we can always use here.

*  I found money!

A dime at Rite-Aid back by the pharmacy last Friday.....

Then a penny in the center aisle of R-A when I was walking up to the front registers.......

Then .11¢ tucked under the register counter.  .22¢ total at R-A on Friday.

Then it was off to Weis(PMITA)Markets for a weekly big shop on Friday and I spied this at a self check-out..............

Another penny.

On Sunday a rare trip to Walmart and I found this.............

a penny in the middle of the self-checkout area.  It was crazy busy and I had to dodge many people to secure this coin. lolz

Another trip to Rite-Aid on Tuesday for some Rx refills and I found this by the shopping cart corral........

A nice shiny penny.

Then on my trip to Aldi's I found an un-corralled shopping cart...........

So I got a free quarter!

*  A few other good deals........

$3.47 after Qs/rebates for these 3 items.

Then to Ocean State Job Lot........

Used my Crazy Deals gift card to buy 3 bags of coffee.  Cost me $1.19 OOP for all 3.

At Malacari's............

6 more pounds of bacon for $7.98 OOP.

3 Boxes of cereal at Rite-Aid......

Cost was $2.97 on a free gift card plus $2.10 back in Ibotta rebates so better than free!

And the Bread Outlet.............

$11.89 OOP for 10 packages of bread products.

* I got some free samples of products...............

I forgot to note this vitamin sample I got on the way home last week when I stopped at Walmart to stretch my legs.

And this sample of fabric softener sheets at Walmart this past week.

That's about it from around here.

Frugal Friday......the August 17th Edition

Let's take a look around and see what frugal-ness we had here at Chez Sluggy this week..........

* We closed out credit union account.  While not frugal per se, it makes our finances a bit simpler.  We moved the money to an online account via the other brick and mortar bank we use.

*  While at the bank depositing the check, we also cashed in a US Savings Bond as it had matured.  Not point in letting it sit there once it's not earning any interest!

*  Speaking of money...........

I found some more of it!  Two pennies in two different parking lots.

*  While out we hit the bread store for the month......

All this for $10.50.
2 loaves of bread, a pack of bagels, a pack of English muffins, 2 packs of Hawaiian sweet buns, a pack of dinner rolls(can use for sliders), a pack of donuts, 2 bags of stuffing, and 2 bags of spicy chips.
I would have gotten more bread and not the snacky things but at this time of year it's hard to keep bread from going moldy(I just don't have room right now to throw it into the freezer). The chips and stuffing were 2/$1....can't beat that price with a stick. lolz  The muffins were free since I spent $10+.
72.66% savings rate over paying full retail price and we are good on bread now until Sept.

*  I also went back to Weis on Wednesday before the sale week ended and bought this.........

2 more boxes of Tetley tea bags because I found 2 more $1/1 Qs so .99¢ per box and I got a rain check for the classic/reg. variety as they have been out of that all week.  Hopefully I can score some more Qs for it before the rain check expires.

2 OM Deli Fresh lunch meats, on sale for 2/$6 and I had .75¢/1 Qs that doubled to $1.50 off, so $3 off $6=$3 or $1.50 for each package.
We have been eating a lot of BLTs due to the tomatoes ripening fast and furiously here(plus we like BLTs).  I got the deli meat(smoked turkey)so we could have a little variety and have club sandwiches now and then besides the BLTs.  ;-)

 I also bought these........
9 x Snickers B2G1FREE sale=$6.00
3 x 3Musketeers B2G1FREE sale=$2.00
I had 2 x B1G1Free 3Musketeers Qs=$2.00 and 4 x .50¢/2 Snickers Qs(doubled to $1 each)=$4.00.
$8 in candy bars-$6 in Qs=$2 for all 12.  Under .17¢ per bar?  Yes, please!
Of course the 3Musketeers went right into the freezer hiding spot, the Snickers go into the family grab bag/giveaway box prized/the fridge bag waiting on Halloween for trick or treaters.  8-)))

*  We hit a Shursave Market in the adjacent town that takes printed internet coupons(and doubled to $1)because mine doesn't take them.  They had a deal on Chex cereal and I had Qs to use!

3 boxes of Chex were $1.99 when you bought 3.  My .50¢/1 Qs doubled to $1 so .99¢ per box.  Rice Chex, Raisin Bran and multi-grain Cheerios are my favorite cereals.
I also got a turkey breast on their one day sale for .99¢ lb.  I know these will be going on sale closer to Thanksgiving but I don't have any now and wanted to do a turkey meal so it got bought. lolz
I also found 2 good dairy discount sticker deals-those mozzarella blocks had $2 off stickers so where $2.69 per lb./piece and those 4 packs of Greek Yogurt were on sale 2/$3 AND had $1 off stickers on them so .50¢ each package. It's a good thing I like strawberry flavor.  ;-)

*  We continued to pick veggies from the garden and attempt to use them all..........

*  I already blogged about my Rite-Aid scores this week.......

No money spent OOP(just $21.98 in Bonus Cash)and I got back $4.25 in cash rebates for doing all this.(I was able to reload the $2 Pop-Tart rebate so could do it twice.)
And $3.40 of my WAM on all this(Hey! I actually spend MONEY at Rite-Aid this week!).

That's about it for us this week.
And remember, in the words of the Most Frugal Man on the Planet.......

Frugal Friday......The July 27th Edition

Let's see what frugal wins we had this past week...........

* The only grocery shopping so far this week has been a trip to Maine Source last Friday.  I  got some good produce deals-cabbage and bananas .49¢ lb., yellow squash and tomatoes for .99¢ lb., asparagus $1.69 lb. and sweet corn for .33¢ an ear.  I also picked up a 25 lb. bag of onions for $14.99, a 6.73 lb. bag of ground chuck at $2.39 lb. and 2 packs of roast beef deli meat at $7.99 lb.
The store had a $5 off wys $50 coupon so along with the good prices I saved an additional $5 too.

*  I found money!

1¢ in a Rite-Aid parking lot on Saturday.

*  And speaking of Rite-Aid after we hit a brew pub to celebrate Eldest son's birthday I hit two different Rite-Aid on the way home and picked up all this free candy......

8 bags of Jolly Ranges and Twizzlers varieties that double dipped with a Buy2/Get $1 BC weekly Deal and a Buy2/Get $2BC monthly Deal.  So every 4 bags on sale for 2/$3 cost me $6 in BC and gave me back $6 in BC.
I did 4 bags on each of two cards and rolled $6 of BC on each of those cards.
If the kids don't want this, look for it to come to a Giveaway Box near you.  ;-))

*  I baked Eldest son a birthday cake............

Here he is pretending to blow out his candles so I could take a photo. lolz
I could have bought a cake from the local bakery or the Weis Markets bakery department.  I had a cake mix and frosting in the stockpile and made his favorite type of cake(German Chocolate)so no additional $$ spent.

*  Also on Friday I hit the Bread Outlet since we were down to our last loaf of bread;
3 packs of hamburger rolls(for bbq and burgers), 3 loaves of bread and 2 boxes of chocolate donuts later I spend down my WAM by $10 instead of putting it on the c/c which is usually how I pay for groceries(to keep track-c/c charges are paid off monthly).

*  I received a Target mailer/ad with this coupon on it..........

It was a Back To School ad but this coupon can be used on anything in the store, not just typically BTS items.
I can send for a $50 Target gift card using c/c points for free and pair it with this Q making it an even better deal.

*  More garden goodies got picked on Thursday.......

75.8 ounces more of zuke and Summer squash.
There will be more zuke and squash on next week's menu I think.  ;-)

Tell us all about it.

Frugal Friday.....July 6th Edition

Let's see what frugal wins we had this week........

*  I had Hubs pick up the Weis Friday Freebies last Friday...........

A free box of Saltines.  Come Winter and we are in the throes of Winter and soup weather, these will come in handy.

*  Hubs and I hit the Bread Ouutlet since we were down to our last half loaf.....

4 loaves of bread, 2 packages of rolls, 1 package of English muffins, 2 boxes of chocolate donuts and for spending over $10, we also got a free box of donuts....woohoo! lolz

*  Lots of stuff for free from Rite-Aid which I posted about already this week....

*  The Weis gas points expired on July 4th so Hubs and Ex-College Boy took both cars up and filled them up on the 3rd.

Only saved .30¢ per gallon but still, $4.82 saved is $4.82 saved. ;-)

*  While on FB Wednesday evening I saw a Q for free Heinz mayo pop up on my feed so I printed 2 of those coupons off.

When at Weis on Thursday I picked up better than free mayo.......

It was on sale for $3.99 this week but the cashier put in the full value of the Q($4.50)so I got paid $1.02 in other groceries to bring these home. ;-)
Then I got another .50¢ in cash rebates on Ibotta for buying these.  Sweet!

While at Weis I also picked up these for the kids at their request...

DD creamers are $2.99 this week at Weis.  I earned $2.25 in cash rebates(.75¢ per bottle)at Ibotta for this purchase so they cost $2.24 each after that.

I also found a pack of thick pork chops with a $3 off sticker plus these are BOGOFree this week so I picked up another similar pork chop pack.  I paid $3.30 for 2.12 lbs. of chops.
Then these value packs of bacon had .50¢ discount stickers on them, making them $2.77 each.  $3 is my buy price currently for bacon so I bought 4 packs.

I also did the Mix and Match buy 6 Items/Get $6 Off.......

2 x 8 pack Gatorade for ex-College Boy on sale=$10.00
2 x Breyer's ice cream on sale=$5.98
1 x Ben and Jerry's slices on sale=$3.99
1 x Hanover frozen veg on sale=$1.99
SubTotal....$21.96

Coupons Used
1 x $1/2 Gatorade 8 packs HangtagQ=$1.00
1 x $2/1 BandJ slices IPQ=$2.00
Coupon Total....$3.00

$21.96-$3-$6 Offer=$12.96 for all 6 items
Not a bad price and then at the register this Catalina printed off......

$1 off my next order for buying 2 Breyer's ice cream.
I have a feeling I'll be going back to Weis this week for more ice cream.  ;-)

Hubs went out to buy a back-up filled propane tank for the grill this week.  I gave him $29 in Home Despot gift cards to use toward that so it only cost us $22.99 OOP.
Good thing he bought one because the current tank ran out of fuel right in the middle of cooking during the 4th..

That's about all I have for this week.
What frugal wins did you have this past week?

As always, heed the words of the "Most Interesting Man in the World"..........
