Frugal Friday......the August 17th Edition

Let's take a look around and see what frugal-ness we had here at Chez Sluggy this week..........

* We closed out credit union account.  While not frugal per se, it makes our finances a bit simpler.  We moved the money to an online account via the other brick and mortar bank we use.

*  While at the bank depositing the check, we also cashed in a US Savings Bond as it had matured.  Not point in letting it sit there once it's not earning any interest!

*  Speaking of money...........

I found some more of it!  Two pennies in two different parking lots.

*  While out we hit the bread store for the month......

All this for $10.50.
2 loaves of bread, a pack of bagels, a pack of English muffins, 2 packs of Hawaiian sweet buns, a pack of dinner rolls(can use for sliders), a pack of donuts, 2 bags of stuffing, and 2 bags of spicy chips.
I would have gotten more bread and not the snacky things but at this time of year it's hard to keep bread from going moldy(I just don't have room right now to throw it into the freezer). The chips and stuffing were 2/$1....can't beat that price with a stick. lolz  The muffins were free since I spent $10+.
72.66% savings rate over paying full retail price and we are good on bread now until Sept.

*  I also went back to Weis on Wednesday before the sale week ended and bought this.........

2 more boxes of Tetley tea bags because I found 2 more $1/1 Qs so .99¢ per box and I got a rain check for the classic/reg. variety as they have been out of that all week.  Hopefully I can score some more Qs for it before the rain check expires.

2 OM Deli Fresh lunch meats, on sale for 2/$6 and I had .75¢/1 Qs that doubled to $1.50 off, so $3 off $6=$3 or $1.50 for each package.
We have been eating a lot of BLTs due to the tomatoes ripening fast and furiously here(plus we like BLTs).  I got the deli meat(smoked turkey)so we could have a little variety and have club sandwiches now and then besides the BLTs.  ;-)

 I also bought these........
9 x Snickers B2G1FREE sale=$6.00
3 x 3Musketeers B2G1FREE sale=$2.00
I had 2 x B1G1Free 3Musketeers Qs=$2.00 and 4 x .50¢/2 Snickers Qs(doubled to $1 each)=$4.00.
$8 in candy bars-$6 in Qs=$2 for all 12.  Under .17¢ per bar?  Yes, please!
Of course the 3Musketeers went right into the freezer hiding spot, the Snickers go into the family grab bag/giveaway box prized/the fridge bag waiting on Halloween for trick or treaters.  8-)))

*  We hit a Shursave Market in the adjacent town that takes printed internet coupons(and doubled to $1)because mine doesn't take them.  They had a deal on Chex cereal and I had Qs to use!

3 boxes of Chex were $1.99 when you bought 3.  My .50¢/1 Qs doubled to $1 so .99¢ per box.  Rice Chex, Raisin Bran and multi-grain Cheerios are my favorite cereals.
I also got a turkey breast on their one day sale for .99¢ lb.  I know these will be going on sale closer to Thanksgiving but I don't have any now and wanted to do a turkey meal so it got bought. lolz
I also found 2 good dairy discount sticker deals-those mozzarella blocks had $2 off stickers so where $2.69 per lb./piece and those 4 packs of Greek Yogurt were on sale 2/$3 AND had $1 off stickers on them so .50¢ each package. It's a good thing I like strawberry flavor.  ;-)

*  We continued to pick veggies from the garden and attempt to use them all..........

*  I already blogged about my Rite-Aid scores this week.......

No money spent OOP(just $21.98 in Bonus Cash)and I got back $4.25 in cash rebates for doing all this.(I was able to reload the $2 Pop-Tart rebate so could do it twice.)
And $3.40 of my WAM on all this(Hey! I actually spend MONEY at Rite-Aid this week!).

That's about it for us this week.
And remember, in the words of the Most Frugal Man on the Planet.......

What frugal wins did you have this week?

Shopping Lately

I'm a bit behind on my shopping posts.  C'est la vie, right?

Here is stuff I bought at Rite-Aid last Friday....or was it Saturday?

3 x 12 packs Diet Pepsi on sale=$9.99 *not pictured*
2 x Mitchum deodorant on sale BOGO50%=$6.73
1 x Russell Stover chocolates on sale=$5.99
SubTotal........$22.71

Coupons Used
1 x $1/3 Pepsi 12 packs R-A in-adQ=$1.00
1 x $2/3 Diet Pepsi Catalina Q=$2.00
1 x $5/2 Mitchum R-A receiptQ=$5.00
1 x $1/1 Mitchum ManuQ=$1.00
1 x $2/1 R/S chocolate box ManuQ=$2.00
Coupon Total.....$11.00

$22.71-$11.00=$11.71+.27¢tax=$11.98 paid with Bonus Cash.
I earned $2 in new BC(on the R/S chocolate box) so "spent down" $9.98 on my Bonus Cash.

The Diet Pepsi Catalina spit out after the cashier scanned all 3 12-packs and got used right away to make my sodas $2.33 each 12 pack, which is a good price.
The chocolate was $1.99 after sale/Q/BC earned and the deodorants were .73¢ for both.

I needed to spend down some BC on this card and this transaction got the job done.  Keeping track of BC and having to roll it is just too time consuming with this 60 until expiration limit now.

I also made one trip to Weis(PMITA)Markets this week.
Here are the highlights.....

Pretend you see 4 Flip yogurts and 1 Yoplait mix-in yogurts in the photo. (A Flip got eaten before I got around to taking this shot.)
Flips were on sale for .87¢ each and I had 4 x .50/1 Qs that doubled to $1 so I was paid .52¢ to take those yogurts home.  The Yoplait was $1 and I had a .40¢/1 Q which doubled to .80¢ so that one cost me .20¢ OOP.
I'll pick these up when they are cheap enough to have as a treat(the yogurt makes them healthy, right?lol)

I bought these 6 items as part of the Mix and Match/Buy6, Get $3 Off instantly Deal.
2 x Daisy cottage cheese on sale=$3.98
2 x Silk milk on sale=$5.98
2 x Cool Whip on sale=$2.98
SubTotal.......$12.94
I had 2 x .55¢/1 DaisyQs($1.10)and 2 x $1/1 SilkQs($2)so $3.10 off plus the $3 instant discount and all 6 were $6.84 OOP.
Hubs is using nut juice in is cereal and coffee now so I pick these up when I find a deal.  The Cool Whip is needed for the 4th of July cook-out pie recipe and we can always use cottage cheese for something here.

3 items this week Weis had a deal, buy a brand name and get the equivalent Weis brand for free.
I only did the mayo deal(I don't buy frozen waffles and we have enough bbq sauce)so both jars cost me $2.50(Kraft on sale for $2.50 and the Weis brand was free)making each jar $1.25.  That's a good price for mayo.

And Domino sugar was a loss leader at $1.47 a bag.  I had a .75/2 Q which doubled fully to $1.50 off so my two bags of sugar cost me .72¢ each after Q.

And that's it for me lately.
What have you gotten a good deal on where you live?

More Provisions Shopping

I went down the mountain to take advantage of that KMart Pharmacy Coupon/Rx Transfer I got in the mail in May.

I had to wait until I had 2 prescriptions needing refills at the same time so I took them in and had them transferred from Rite-Aid.
An hour later I had my pills(and saved .90¢ total over having them filled at Kmart instead of Rite-Aid!)and this......

A Kmart "Award" Card with $60 on it.

Get free $$ AND save .90¢ on my drugs for a little bit of my time?
Yes please!

I had bought College Boy 4 pair of Levi's branded jeans at the Kmart in LA on our trip.  CB loves him some Levis but I only buy them when I can get a deal.  The Shreveport KMart had Levi Signature jeans on clearance for $15.99 and $16.99.
I got a waist size I thought he could wear only to haul them home to PA and find out they were too big.
Ugh!

So I returned them to my Kmart while I was there anyway and got those charges taken off our c/c.

After putting in my rxs to transfer/fill I wandered around the store and found the exact same pants in a smaller waist size that would work for CB for $10.99.  2 pair of them.
Score!

Then I saw they had that special Baja Blast Mountain Dew CB lurvs for $3 a 12-pack so I picked him some up.  A clearance box of Cheese Nips got thrown in the cart too for him...imagine that! lol

And I forgot to use the $60 Kmart card to pay for it all at the register......
Ugh. Ugh.

I also had $7 in surprise points on my Kmart SYW card so it all came to $22.95 instead of $29.95.
Not bad.

While waiting for the rxs to be filled I went next door to Dollar Tree and picked up a few things....

I picked up 3 bags of cinnamon Jolly Rancher candies....it's my favorite snack for a sweet tooth craving.
Also got 3 potsticker dumplings as they restocked, a box of lasagna noodles, a box of vegetable stock(trying this brand), 2 refill bags of hand soap, a tube of Udderly Smooth hand cream for CB(he's washing dishes at work), 1 2-pack of corn dogs(used a coupon so was .45¢) and a box of Swanson "Cream Starter"....it's stock with dairy in it for cream type soups.
$13.69 OOP.

And I splurged on myself(besides the hard candies)and got a book.....

I am nearly finished with my Stonewall Jackson book so I need something light to read.  This looked fun and was the only thing I considered in the book section at the DT.  DT use to have a good book selection....now? not so much.  I know I could have gone to the library and possibly checked this out for free but I didn't....sue me. ;-)

Some women splurge and buy themselves name brand clothing, or day spa treatments or trips to Europe.
I have much simpler needs so a $1 book takes care of that "itch" for me.
Maybe that's why we almost have enough saved to retire?...because my needs are simpler than many others.  Or is it just plain luck?  It certainly isn't due to buying lottery tickets and hitting the jackpot. lolz

I also hit Sam's Club this week for cheap Hydrogen Peroxide(much cheaper than using those Oxi products in the laundry), fresh fruit, lunchmeat for Hubs, pecans(cheapest price around), cashews(ditto), sinus meds(a year+ supply for what I use to pay for 1 monthly rx fill), chili, special taco shells and French fried onions for CB.

And there was a quick trip to Weis(PMITA)Markets on the way home for a couple of deals.
The video about that is HERE.

Next week I am staying out of the grocery stores mostly as the shelves here are overflowing with goodies.

Did you find anything good to buy at the grocery/drug/discount/dollar/warehouse club stores this week?
