This Week on the Dining Table

The "Happy Birthday Hubs!" Edition--

We spent Hubs birthday evening at a brewery in Fredericksburg playing trivia with eldest son and his GF.  Drinking and mind games seems about right for us as a thing to do on your birthday. 8-)))

Moving On....

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned--

1. Sunday--Ham, Deviled Eggs, Mac and Cheese, Rolls, Cauliflower/Broccoli mix
2. Monday--Hot Dogs, Beans, leftover Deviled Eggs
3. Tuesday--Spaghetti and Meatballs, Salad
4. Wednesday--Fend for Yourself/Easter Leftovers
5. Thursday--Eating-Out(Hubs birthday)
6. Friday--Fend for Yourself/Easter Leftovers
7. Saturday--No Clue Yet

And this is what actually happened--

1. Sunday--Ham, Deviled Eggs, Mac and Cheese, Rolls, Cauliflower/Broccoli mix
2. Monday--Hot Dogs, Beans, leftover Deviled Eggs
3. Tuesday--Fend for Yourself
4. Wednesday--Eating-Out(on trip)
5. Thursday--Eating-Out(Hubs birthday)
6. Friday--Chinese Take-Out
7. Saturday--Steak, Caesar Salad(I got a deal on steaks at Weis that day!)

Last week saw 3 nights of home cooked dinners, 1 night of leftovers/fend for yourself, 1 night of take-out and 2 nights of Eating out since we were out of town visiting our son(plus didn't feel like cooking so got Take-out the nigh we got home).  Too much $ was spent on eating out because our son didn't cook while we were there and our son has expensive tastes!
The spaghetti and balls didn't happen so it moves to this week.

3 trips to Weis for the deals  brought the shopping to $125.25 for the week and brought April's food spending total to $125.25.

My savings percentages last week was 65.09% and April's monthly savings total so far is at 65.09%.

Leftovers going into this week.......ham, mac and cheese, Hawaiian rolls.  The kids didn't eat any of the Easter leftovers left while we were gone.  I gave them a Domino's gift card to get pizza one night and they just pulled something from the freezer the other night.

Here is this week's "food plan".....

1. Sunday--Lasagna
2. Monday--BLTs, Ham or Club Sandwiches
3. Tuesday--Leftover Lasagna, Zucchini side dish
4. Wednesday--Pork Chops, Sweet Potato Fries(baked), Sugar Snap Peas or Green Beans
5. Thursday--Spaghetti and Meatballs, Salad
6. Friday--Fish, Sautéd Squash, Mashed Taters
7. Saturday--Leftovers

This week will see 5 new meals cooked, 2 nights of leftovers/FFY and 0 nights of Take-out/Eat-Out.  We are tamping down on eating out/take-out after last week's blow out....ugh.

What needs buying for this menu?  A head of lettuce, tomatoes, squash, zuke and lasagna noodles.  I went to Dollar Tree and restaurant supply for produce/a log of Cooper cheese on Sunday already(those trips go on this week's shopping)to report next Monday.  So nothing else is needed for this meal plan.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

  1. Still trying to keep the food budget in check. Prices continue to rise here. Did get a good buy on our favorite brand of bacon, Oscar Mayer brand, this week. It was sale priced at $3.99 instead of the usual $7-$8, 16 oz package, at our local Piggly Wiggly. I stocked up, as I usually do, while this was on sale. Seems like our prices are steadily increasing. Penny S.

    1. Since I've been relying heavily on the pantry goods since Jan 1, I am now running out of some things such as tomato soup, something I like to keep a few cans on the shelf just in case/quick meal etc. I stopped in at Aldi's where I've only been doing a quick milk/1/2 & 1/2 run IF I am on that side of the city. I now live very close to a Stop and Shop so even with my 52 mpg hybrid, saving 10 cents just to go across town doesn't make sense. I noted that everything I needed was 10 cents more, including the tomato soup. Eggs last week were $2.29, I stopped at Dollar Tree today, as their shipments come on Sundays, hoping for their eggs. Nope. Aldi's did significantly drop their egg prices down, now 99/doz. I bought 2.

  2. I made Mexican Goulash for dinner today. Last night was Cheesy Potato Bake. I think we have enough left from dinner tonight for tomorrow, which sounds good to me, no cooking! woo hoo lol :)

  3. There is some sort of meat thawing in the refrigerator. When I see what it is, I will know what to do with the potatoes. But, I will be making the fruit jello salad that was supposed to be for Easter Tuesday and the carrot/pineapple salad. Plus, I have salad fixins and leftovers for this week. That's how I do it.

  4. Happy Belated Birthday to Hubs! I made red beans and rice with ground beef for dinner tonight. It is one of Hubby's favorites.

  5. We successfully used up stuff in our freezer last week. I am kicking myself for not getting MORE of the 99 cent for 18 eggs at Target when they were on calse for Easter. Paid $2.28 a doz at Aldi yesterday. Meh!

  6. Tell Dan the sweater has to go along with his hat. Oh and also Happy Birthday! Eldest has a new girl? I love her she is beautiful. They need to get married and have babies. Let me have his phone # I will call him and pretend to be an angel and then give him this advice in a spooky voice and hang up. I really think this will work.
