This Week on the Dining Table

The "Who WOULDN'T Want This!?!?" Edition.............

Hubs and I were out and about on Saturday.  I found this yummy rainbow furry purse and threatened to send it to Kim for her birthday next month.  Who wouldn't want this, right? lolz

Moving On....

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned--

1. Sunday--Homemade Pizza, Hot Wings
2. Monday--Cheese Steak Subs, Spinach souffle
3. Tuesday--Leftover Beef Pie or FFY
4. Wednesday--Pork Roast, Italian side dish w/Beans and Veggies, Baked Kale Chips
5. Thursday--Roast Chicken, Stuffing(maybe), Sweet Potato Casserole, Sugar Snap Peas
6. Friday--Ham, Mac and Cheese, Brussels Sprouts
7. Saturday--Leftovers

And this is what actually happened--

1. Sunday--Homemade Pizza, Hot Wings
2. Monday--Cheese Steak Subs, Spinach souffle
3. Tuesday--Pork Roast, Italian side dish w/Beans and Broccoli, boxed Mac and Cheese
4. Wednesday--Leftovers or FFY(I had leftover Beef Pie)
5. Thursday--Chinese Take-Out
6. Friday--Roast Chicken, Stuffing, Sweet Potato Casserole, Corn, Peas
7. Saturday--Ham, Mac and Cheese, Broccoli

Last week saw 5 nights of home cooked dinners, 1 night of leftovers/fend for yourself, 1 nights of Eating Out/Take-Out.
Everything happened as planned but perhaps on different days then planned. Instead of leftovers the second night we got take-out.  I wasn't "feeling" leftovers and we hadn't had take-out in quite a while.

What got put into the freezer last week.....
*  1 pack of ground veal
*  3 packs of panko-ed pork tenderloins
*  2 lbs. of ground beef
*  5 packages of veggies
*  a box of ice cream snadwiches

What got taken out of the freezer and used last week.......
*  2 packs of deli sliced roast beef
*  1 whole chicken
*  1 pork roast
*  2 spinach souffles
*  1 dinner ham
*  3 bags of frozen veggies

You would THINK the freezers were emptying out, wouldn't you?

 A couple of grocery trips.....2 smallish trips to Weis($6.98/$45.88)and a trip to Ollie's($10.71)brought the weekly(really more than a week because Jan./Feb. week last week and I only reported the Jan. of that week)food spending to $73.48 and brought the February monthly total to $73.48 so far.

My savings percentage last week was 69.30%(without Rite-Aid trips)and February's monthly savings total comes to 69.30%(w/out R-A).  I got some great deals on meat and some clearance items and used Qs on those too so a big savings % last week.

Leftovers going into this week.... a helping of pot roast w/veggies, taco filling(might still have some//I didn't check yet), roast chicken, ham, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, corn, peas, kale(daughter made it one night).
Besides the ham and mac/cheese there isn't enough of the rest of it to serve another night/as leftover.

Here is this week's "food plan".....

1. Sunday--Pad Thai fake-out
2. Monday--Hamburgers, Tomato and Cuke Salad
3. Tuesday--Beef Lasagna, Tossed Salad
4. Wednesday--leftover Ham, Mac and Cheese, Veggies TBD(maybe leftover corn and peas)
5. Thursday--Chicken Thighs and something else lolz
6. Friday--Ham and cheese scrambled eggs, French Toast, Fruit
7. Saturday--Leftovers

This week will see 5 new meals cooked, 2 nights of leftovers/FFY, 0 nights of Take-Out/Eating Out.

What needs buying for this menu? Ground beef and veal was bought on Sunday along with some reduced B/S chicken thighs(half went into the Pad Thai/half saute for later this week).  The rest of the week should be low spend(I think).  ;-)

Whatever ham is left after 1 night of leftover slices and what goes into the eggs on Friday will be chopped and put into the freezer for ham/bean soup in the future.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Crazy Weather" Edition--

After 2 days of 70+ weather(on Friday it hit 80F!)the temp sank 30+ degrees on Sunday into the 40's.  The rain Sunday didn't come until last night/this morning along with strong winds.  This reminds me we need to do something about a couple of tall trees out back soon. sigh.  Temps in the 40's today, snow showers mid week overnight/early morning and then 50's for the rest of the week.
The poor forsythia bush started budding out on Friday.....I guess it didn't get the weather memo.

This Week on The Dining Table

The "Boo Hoo, my Birthday is Over" Edition.....

Here are the flowers Hubs gave me last week, along with 3 cards I received--

The card in the center, except for this photo and when I initially opened it has been living with it's BACK facing me.....

This was Hubs idea of a "great" birthday card for someone turning my age.
Here's the inside......

Oh, he knows me TOO TOO WELL! lolz

Tuesday--Clam/Corn Chowder, Roasted Cauliflower(have), Potato crusted Fish(have)

Thursday--Leftover turkey slices, assorted Leftover veggies(or frozen veggies if not enough)
Friday--Quiche(in freezer), Asparagus
Saturday--Turkey Casserole(leftover turkey), Green Beans(have in freezer)

 And here is what actually happened--

Monday--Roasted Turkey(have), Stuffing(have), Roasted Sweet Potatoes(have), Cranberry glop(have)
Tuesday--Assorted Leftovers
Wednesday--Meal out-free birthday appetizer, meal comes out of Entertainment Budget **
Thursday--Hubs had leftovers, I had a Turkey Sandwich and Collards
Friday--Clam/Corn Chowder, Roasted Coleslaw, Fried Oysters
Saturday--Turkey leftovers

Some meals moved around and the quiche got bumped to next week. The fish didn't happen with the clam chowder because I hit on a 50% sale on fresh oysters on Wednesday so we had fried oysters.
We spent a lot of nights eating up the leftovers.

**On Wednesday we ended up NOT spending a dime out of the Entertainment Budget after all, except for a tip.
We went to Lone Star for a steak dinner and the evening was a disaster!  More on that another time but they comped our entire meal.  Woot!

As for the food spending last week....
There were 2 trips to the grocery store and I spent a grand total of $99.69 on $180.59 worth of groceries at 2 stores.
I am trying to achieve another $300 or less grocery month for January and I have $2.63 left in the food budget for the rest of this month.

Leftovers going into this week--1 helping each of sweet potatoes and reg. potatoes and onions, Kraut(2 helpings), turkey casserole(2 helpings), coleslaw(4 helpings), clam chowder(2 helpings) cornbread(1/2 a pan).  I have a head of cauliflower and bunch of asparagus that need using.

Here is this week's meal plan---

Sunday--Breaded fish fillets(have), Roasted Cauliflower(have), Coleslaw(have)
Monday--Free Birthday Burger at Red Robin, #2 Son's burger out of Entertaining Budget, Hubs has leftovers
Tuesday--Chicken and Mushroom Parm(have), Pasta, Green Salad(have) with Feta Cheese(have)
Wednesday--Roasted Chicken(have), Assorted leftover side dishes(have)
Thursday--Leftovers
Friday--Quiche(in freezer), Asparagus(have)
Saturday--Leftovers

That makes 3 new meals, 3 leftover or planned over meals and 1 meal out.

What I need to purchase for this menu?.......not a blessed thing! 8-)
Cross your fingers we can get through the month now without any more food budget spending!

Other items on sale that I want to pick up this week?......chicken roasters on sale .99¢ lb., boned/skinned chicken breasts at $1.88 lb. and mayo at $1.49 jar that I'll pick up on Saturday when the new month's budget kicks in.

 What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?
