Frugal Friday......the November 1st Edition

Sorry to be a day late on the Frugal Friday posting.
I do have a good excuse--Halloween night a tree fell on a power line down the road from us so we were without electricity for 18+ hours until almost 6 pm last evening. ugh.

A quick look around here to see what frugal stuff went on at Chez Sluggy this past week........

*  I ran Ibotta deals........
Finished off some Bonuses and regular Ibotta rebates this past week.
$32.14 in Ibotta rebates and $1 in SavingStar rebates so a total of $33.14 in cash rebates earned this past week.

* Remember that refund the Hospital sent me awhile back in July?

A medical co-pay overpayment I made.  the refund was in the form of a prepaid Visa card.
If you wanted the actual CASH back you had to request a check and then it would be another 4-6 weeks before seeing that.
So I dug the card out finally and took the card to my bank and did a cash advance and emptied that prepaid card.

* I had a $5 chit for Kohl's about to expire on Oct. 31st.  I went into my local Kohl''s last week but didn't seen anything worth buying that wouldn't have made me spend much actual monies out of pocket.  I went back this week and an item I eyed on the last trip in that was on the clearance table was marked down about.........

This tabletop fountain was marked down to $20 last week........

Now it was marked down again to $13.39.  I don't usually buy things for myself there but I had a 20% off Q+$5 chit so I got this.

It cost me $7.41 w/tax out of my WAM.
A $66.99 fountain? No thanks.
A $7.41 fountain?  Yes please! 8-)))

* I found money!

I found this slightly groddy quarter at the Weis in the town West of here last Friday.

I also found a change purse in that Weis.  Turned it into the Customer Service and the owner was standing there conducting some business and hadn't even noticed she dropped it.  The purse had her rent money in it and she couldn't thank me enough times to have it back. ;-)

And I found this quarter at Rite-Aid on Thursday right near the register.  Who drops a quarter and doesn't pick it up?!?! lolz

*  Some freebies at Rite-Aid..........

Pantene Shampoos and Conditioners, Olay body wash, Toothpaste and Dental Floss.
I'll pick up some more of this sort of thing today before the sale ends and finish out some of the various deals that stacked this week on P&G stuff.

* A new bank opened up in my town and they had an Open House last weekend.  I went in to look around, get some free food and maybe win a BMW they were giving away..............

Didn't win the car but I won this nifty coffee mug! lolz  I brought this chocolate covered rice krispies treat home along with a bottled water, a slice of nasty pizza(which Hubs ate, of course!lol)and a small container of bbq from a local bbq joint that opened up here.
The cue was good which is nice because we won a gift certificate for there at the church auction last month. ;-)

*  I sold something on eBay!

This throw blanket went for $32.  Better to sell it than have it sitting around my house for another ten years, right?  I made $22 gross on this sale(haven't figured out the net yet after fees, stupid fees).

That's about it for this week in my world.

What frugal wins did y'all come up with this week?
Tell us all about it!

Frugal Friday.....the September 13th Edition

Frugal Friday is also Friday the 13th this week.
Grab a drink and a chair because this week's FF is long....Oh boy!!!

Here's what frugalisciousness happened this past week..........

* Here's what I bought at Rite-Aid last Friday, "the week of free toothpaste/toothbrushes/mouth wash and marshmallow/chocolates".........

The Crest toothpaste and candy were all free after Qs and Bonus Cash.

I also cashed in a rain check from 2018 for Hello toothpaste.  With that rain check it was free(as it was from a Buy for $5/Get $5 BC back deal).  In addition, if you bought 2 this past week you got $5 BC back(a new Deal)so those two tubes cost me nothing and gave me $5 BC back.
Sweet. 8-)

*  I made a rare trip to Target and used some of that $300 Target gift card I bought last November...........

$3.15 for the chicken w/a $3 off sticker
$1.59 for a Stubb's bbq sauce(50% off cartwheel)
$2.16 for 2 jars of clearance peanut butter
$7.00 for 3 boxes of granola bars(I used a .50¢/2 ManuQ)
Came to 13.90 and I deducted the 10% discount I received when I purchased the gift card so $12.51 total to add to my grocery tally for September.

*  Those nature Valley granola bars are also part of the gift card deal at Target too.......

Buy 3 participating General Mills items and get a $5 Target gift card.
Go HERE for details.  This offer runs through 1/14/20.

*  I found money!

Last Friday at Weis this penny was found by one of the self-checkout registers.

These three pennies were found in three different parts of my Rite-Aid store--1 by register #1, 1 by register #2 and 1 in the foyer area as I was leaving the store.
They all found a good home here with me at Chez Sluggy.

This dime was found in my local Shursave Market past the registers by the exit door.  FDR left the building in my pocket......

Then I found this $2 in the dryer............

Any money found in the washer/dryer reverts to me per Sluggy House Rules. 8-))
$2.14 into my Found Money envie.  8-)))

*  Here are some good deals I found at Weis(PMITA)Markets last Friday........

Everything in the photo but the sugar was 50% off on clearance.
The sugar is a new hybrid(50% white sugar/50% brown sugar)they call "Golden Sugar".  After a .75¢/1 doubled to $1.50/1 Domino Q it cost me .50¢ OOP.

I got 2 more 4 packs of tuna($2.99)and 3 more large cans of chicken breast(.75¢ each)except the cashier who pulled my cart over to the self-checkout and was ringing everything up for me was going so fast one of the cans didn't register so I ended up only paying for 2 cans of this. ;-)
They also have tins of anchovies(pizza and Caesar salad here I come!)for $1 each so I got 4 and a Salted Caramel Brownie mix for $1.29 each.  Ex-College Boy will go wild for those!

Along with everything else I bought on that trip, my total came to $35.18 OOP.
But I used this..........

A $15 prepaid card earned back in March at Rite-Aid that expires the end of September to pay for some of this transaction so my OOP was $20.18 at Weis.  The regular retail on everything on that trip would have been $98.10 if I had paid shelf price there.
Nice.

*  I got the Freebie last Friday at Weis......

Weis brand dipping sauce so I selected a bottle of  "Yum Yum" sauce.  Totally Free.

*  I received $7.44 in Ibotta rebates(.20¢, .25¢ and $6.99 for a 3/17/19 hotel stay-which I had to bitch about to finally get it to credit!)and $1 in a SavingStar rebate(Farm Rich frozen item).

*  I continue to pick tomatoes(cukes are done, and I'm getting teeny tiny broccoli heads still)in mass.

This isn't the current batch because I didn't take a photo before throwing them into the freezer but it's representative. lolz
I am up to 20.209 pounds of tomatoes harvested.  Besides canning them we've been eating them fresh in BLTs and salads or just sliced on a plate with a bit of salt sprinkled on them.
We grew Cherokee Purples among the varieties this year and they are so good eaten fresh!
Paying retail in the grocery store for 20 lbs. of tomatoes is OBSCENE for what they would charge for a tomato that tastes terrible.  I will miss "real" tomatoes when they are done for the year.  8-(((

*  On Labor Day I found a deal where 3 coupon codes stacked(2 Labor Day codes + a Spend $25/Get $10 off code).
Some housewares were on sale and there was no shipping if you picked up at the store.  Of course 4 of the items weren't in stock at my store so I had to have them shipped to the store so I couldn't pick it all up until THIS week and show it to y'all.

Sorry for the crap poor photo but I haven't had time to take it all out and arrange it nicely for a picture. lolz
It's 6 pillows, 8 bath sheets and 4 hand towels.
The 8 bath sheets were ordered in a separate transaction from the rest so I could use that $10 wyspend $25 coupon code twice.
8 bath sheets on sale for $3.99(reg. $9.99)
$31.92
I got $19.51 in discounts so with .74¢ sales tax all 8 cost me $13.15 OOP.

Then I ordered the 6 pillows and 4 hand towels separately.
Pillows were $3.99(reg. $9.99)and hand towels were $2.99(reg. $7.99), subtotal of $35.90.
I got $20.94 in discounts so with .90¢ sales tax all 10 items cost me $15.86 OOP.
Total OOP with tax was $29.01 for everything.
Reg. retail of $171.82 so I am good with spending under $30 for new pillows for all the beds and a complete set of towels in FABULOUS colors. lolz

And I got some change back(something like .22¢ lolz) from ordering through ShopAtHome website.
I guess when you don't spend much you don't get much in a rebate. ;-)

That's it from here this week.

There's a New "Judy" in the House!

Yep.
I went and bought a crock-pot on Tuesday.
And it showed up at my door on Thursday.

It's larger than my other crock-pot(7 quart) but even better.........

It's PURPLE!

And it was a great deal.

$29.99 on sale at Kohl's.
I got 30% off=$20.99
Then I got another $10 off for buying it on Veteran's Day=$10.99
And I just got finished filling out the $5 rebate on this model=$5.99 + a stamp=$6.44 OOP
And the shipping was free too.

Now I just need to decide what to cook to christen her.
Any suggestions?

Enough Towels to Choke a Horse

Ok, so don't ask me what this expression means.
I guess it means a whole lot of towels. lolz

I was alerted to a great deal on bath towels at Kohl's a couple of weeks ago, through a deal blog I subscribe to.

Nice 100% Cotton bath sheet sized towels, regularly $9.99 each, after numerous discounts and a clearance price, they were $2.20 each, including shipping.

I got $160+ worth of towels for $35.27 OOP.

Yes, I know 16 towels is a lot......but in order to get ALL the discounts you had to spend that much/get that many.

I wanted the lavender colored towels but they sold out as I was ordering.....dang it!

In the end I bought 8 sandstone(tan)towels and 8 dove grey(they look white to me!)towels.

I haven't bought towels since 2003 or so...about 10 years now.

I had picked up my most recent towels purchased at Ollie's(Good Stuff Cheap!)on a large markdown but nothing matched.  Bright yellow, turquoise, purple, navy blue......the bottom line was more important than the colors/matching and I could live with that.  Even if they didn't "go" together colorwise, the quality was good.

Then my daughter started doing laundry.......and started dying her hair.....so between those 2 events(using bleach in the colored laundry and getting hair dye on some)my supply of towels are pretty sad looking these days.
Ask Tania/Tanner.....she's seen them! lolz

I didn't want to replace things like this until all the children were grown and out of the house, so they might actually have a fighting chance to stay nice.
You parents out there know what I mean, right?  ;-)

As my daughter left home last year, and has just set up housekeeping in her new home in Louisiana I may see if she wants some of the nicer of the old towels and I can bring them down on my next trip South.
Hubs will take some for rags for his workbench out in the garage.

I wish this sale had come up BEFORE I went and bought #2 Son a supply of towels(at Ollie's on sale)for college.  I didn't want to send him with our towels as I didn't have anything to replace them with at that time, but now it's too late to return the ones I bought for him(past 30 days).  His aren't high quality ones...after all, he's an 18 yr. old male and they will all be gray within 2 months time-either from overuse and no washing or from washing them with all his black clothes, so I didn't spend much to get "nice" towels. lolz

Tan and white are neutral tones and classics that I can make work in most any bathroom color scheme no matter where we move to and what the color scheme is in the bathrooms there.

I figure you can never have too many towels as long as they all fit into your linen closet, right?  8-)
