  1. Hi Sluggy! I don't have any experience with the current prom scene, as my kids are both very young and years away from prom. However, I have talked with many others who have children attending proms this year and I am absolutely amazed at how over-the-top and expenseive it all is. It's insane! I can only imagine how bad it will be when my kids are finally old enough for prom.

  2. No kids, so no current prom experience, but I did view the pictures from my high school's prom this weekend when friends posted them on facebook. This is the first year where a lot of people my age have kids attending prom, it made me feel old. Until I realized that as a child-free person I'm "timeless". No kid to say "when I was your age" to, mean you don't age, right?

  3. I have worked at several proms (as part of catering), and they are WAY over the top. I've seen girls dressed in a lot more questionable gowns than you see in a normal day at MTV during spring break. The boys, however, they look sharp and formal. The girls? They cannot walk those 6" heels and are constantly pulling up their strapless dresses... do you really want to be that uncomfortable for a whole night? It is nothing like that it was before. And that's pretty sad, since it doesn't seem it will go back to its roots anytime soon... the dances... oh, don't even get me started. Most proms now require cops to be undercover chaperones just so they have a voice to stop these kids from getting 'too into the moment'.

  4. I did go to my prom and no one was half naked like a lot of prom dresses you see advertised now.

  5. When I was in school, I attended prom one year. All of the girls dresses were floor lenght. Now most of the girls wear short dresses (where if they bend over, you can see everything). My daughter who is now in college, didn't want to attend college. She didn't want mom and dad to spend the money just for three hours of fun.

  6. I know that if I don't play I can't win.

I remembered something about my prom. I wasn't dating anyone so asked a guy form work. We were really good friends and he was pretty hot, but made me really mad when he cut his hair the week before my prom. He looked pretty dorky then.
