This Week on The Dining Table

The "I Got Nothing" Edition.......

No photos and no snazzy updates on my life.
Feeling rather empty and uninspired this morning.
Let's get on with the Meal Update, shall we?

And here is what was planned last week---

Sunday--Beef Roast, Yellow Squash Casserole
Monday--Broiled Teriyaki Salmon(freezer), Asparagus, Roasted Potatoes with Onions
Tuesday--Slices off Leftover Roast, Roasted Cauliflower and Carrots
Wednesday--Lasagna(from freezer), Brussel Sprouts
Thursday--Either Roast Beef Hash or French Dip Sammies from leftover Roast, and leftover Veg
Friday--Breakfast for dinner
Saturday--Chicken & Pot Pie Noodles

And here is what actually happened---

Sunday--Beef Roast, Yellow Squash Casserole
Monday--Broiled Teriyaki Salmon(freezer), Asparagus, Roasted Potatoes with Onions
Tuesday--Slices off Leftover Roast, Roasted Cauliflower and Carrots
Wednesday--Lasagna(from freezer), Brussel Sprouts
Thursday--French Dip Sammies from leftover Roast, and leftover Veg
Friday--Fend for Yourself
Saturday--Roast Beef, Asparagus, Mac & Cheese

Everything as planned except Friday(nobody wanted BFD)and Saturday.
Chicken with Pot Pie noodles gets moved to this week.

The big project, well, what turned into a big project!, last week was using up that Beef Roast.  You'll see that we ate off of it every other night(4 nights)last week.  And I still have a small portion to use up tonight.  There was no way in hell I was throwing away even a scrap of that!  The scraps went to our beagle and she was quite happy about it. 8-))

As for the food spending update, this will be easy.....I spent a total of $0 on groceries last week.
Never even went into a grocery store all week.  We ran out of milk on Saturday and are now out of fresh produce to I'll be heading out this week to restock on those items.

I did spend $ on March 1st....$146.00 worth at the Restaurant Supply Store, the Dollar Store and Ollie's.  I didn't post it last week since it was March spending and not February spending and technically it wasn't last week(within  the last 7 days).  Man, sometimes I am a goof.
Let's just say I've spent $146 of the March food budget so far this month.
This week's shopping will be light as I will be out of town a few days and the family will be left to their own devices......might be a good thing but probably will be a bad thing but as I won't be here and be implicated I really don't care. lolz

No food waste last week either.

Going into the new week here are the leftovers we have......1 helping Mac & Cheese(which #2 Son will have eaten before the sun sets tonight), a hunk of Beef Roast, a package of Sandwich Rolls and some Asparagus.

Here is this week's meal plan----

Sunday--Chicken with Pot Pie Noodles, Carrots
Monday--Beef Stew with onions, carrots, potatoes and I might throw in the leftover asparagus too!
Tuesday--Fend for Yourself(Hubs not home for dinner)
Wednesday--Burgers or Sloppy Joes, Sugar Snap Peas
Thursday--?
Friday--?
Saturday--?

Since I will be off in Delaware partying the end of the week, I have no clue what Hubs and the son will be eating.  I have fixings for meals Hubs is likely to make, like pasta and/or ravioli and sauce(and homemade meatballs in the freezer), a meatloaf in the freezer he just needs to thaw and reheat, slices of quiche(also in the freezer).  There is also a pork roast he can put in the crockpot and make pulled pork sammies and the grocery even has premade coleslaw on sale to go with it if they want that.  I just have no clue what they'll fix or if they'll just go out for Chinese, Pizza or FF Burgers.
Place your bets and check back next Monday! lolz

What I need to purchase for this menu?.......ground beef for Wednesday's dinner.  I'll be picking up some milk, fresh fruit and produce, as well as any loss leaders I find.

As for March's grocery budget--I'm going to try to keep it closer to $300 than $400....how's that for hedging? lolz
I want to eat down some of what is in the freezer and clear out some old stuff so when we go on our trip in April, there is room to stock up on frozen pizza and chicken nuggets for #2 Son to eat while we are gone.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Whats on the Dining Table This Week

The "Almost Well but Still Not Up to Real Grocery Shopping" Edition......

A shot of a tree across the street from my house that's really starting to show it's fall colors.  Happy October everyone!

Here's what was planned last week--

Sunday--Pork Chops(freezer), Green Beans(garden), leftover Stuffing, Applesauce(from stockpile)
Monday--Dinner at TGIFridays(I had an appetizer and water, Hubs had a burger and iced tea.)
Tuesday--Roast Chicken(freezer), Brussel Sprouts(freezer), leftover Applesauce
Wednesday--Halushki(noodles from stockpile, cabbage from farm stand) with Bacon(freezer)
Thursday--Rigatoni w/Meat Sauce(meat from freezer/pasta from stockpile/sauce made from stockpile ingredients), some veggie from the freezer OR Fend for Yourself-not sure which yet
Friday--No plan yet, eating out
Saturday--My brother will probably want to eat at a pizza joint so not sure what I'll get there.

And here's what actually got eaten--

Sunday--Pork Chops(freezer), Green Beans(garden), leftover Stuffing, Applesauce(from stockpile)
Monday--Dinner at TGIFridays(I had an appetizer and water, Hubs had a burger and iced tea.)
Tuesday--Roast Chicken(freezer), Brussel Sprouts(freezer), leftover Applesauce
Wednesday--Hubs was away on business, son at work, so I had a grilled cheese sandwich
Thursday--Halushki(nnodles from stockpile, cabbage from farm stand)with Bacon(freezer)
Friday--I had Seafood platter at motel restaurant(ate about half of it), Hubs had BBQ platter
Saturday--Italian restaurant near motel, I had eggplant parm, Hubs had seafood ravioli

Everything as planned the first part of the week, except I just made a grilled cheese sammie on Wed since no one else was home.  2 dinners out while away from home for the Reunion.

As for food spending last week.....I spent $109.68 on $157.64 worth of groceries at 3 stores.  We spent under $8 for the week and then spent over $100 total at Walmart on Friday on the way down and at Food Lion Sunday on the way home from the Reunion.  Some of that $ was for party supplies but most of it was for soda and wine stock ups for home so it's coming out of the food budget.

As for food waste, nothing last week. 8-))
Leftovers going into this week--still picking tomatoes and there is leftover Halushki from last Thursday.

Here's this week's meal plan---

Sunday--Hubs had leftover Halushki, I didn't eat anything
Monday--Leftover barbecue pork and coleslaw from our lunch stop on the way home Sunday
Tuesday--Spaghetti and Meatballs(balls in the freezer/pasta in the stockpile), Italian Green Beans(freezer)
Wednesday--Leftover Halushki, Quiche(freezer), Salad(using garden tomatoes)
Thursday--BLT sandwiches(tomatoes from garden), Fried Apples
Friday--Baked Fish and Crabcakes(freezer), Veggie Medley(freezer)
Saturday--Leftovers or something from the freezer

On the shopping list......some turkey lunchmeat for me, some salad greens, milk, oj, cantaloupe, yogurt, burritos(for #2 son) and some specials like sugar, bread, celery, etc.
I'll try to keep it under $50 this week.

That's what's appearing on the kitchen table this week here at Chez Sluggy.

This Week on the Dining Table

It's the "Oldest Son home for 6 days & We need to eat down all this frozen food since the new freezer died" Week.

 Let's get to it.....

Here's what was planned last week--

Sunday--Grilled Steak, Tossed Salad
Monday--Leftovers or BLTs
Tuesday--Crab cakes, stuffed clams, green beans
Wednesday--Breakfast for Dinner use eggs
Thursday--Grilled Hot Dogs on Rolls, Beans, Mixed Veggies
Friday-Something Chicken in the Crockpot with Veggies and Rice
Saturday--maybe Take-Out since #1 Son is due in that evening

Things went as planned until Thursday evening when I discovered the brand new freezer had shit the bed.....are you tired of me harping on this blasted appliance deal yet?  I know I am.....

Friday and Saturday were a free-for-all of "eat what I can't cram in the freezer and will go bad after a couple days in the fridge" Nights.  Not very good for my waistline but we survived it.
And #1 Son didn't come home Saturday; he came home on Sunday.

I spent $20.25 on $29.30 worth of groceries at a single store last week.   Some fresh produce, fruit and #2 Son wanted a frozen pizza.

Total spent in June was a whopping $280.74, so I had $119.26 leftover in my food budget.
Nice.
8-)))

Going into this week the leftovers that remain are--1 hot dog roll and half a container of half & half.
Because of the freezer, I had to cook up about 6 pounds of steak.....sniff, sniff......
I made a big batch of stroganoff and a crockpot of chili with it all.  The chili will be for the kids to eat for lunch and/or snacks this week.

It won't be a 'usual' week for us in the dinner category, as the oldest is home so that warrants some eating out and cooking things he likes(meaning lots of meat meals).

(I've made bold the leftover items I've used in the menu below.)

 Here's this week's meal plan--

Sunday--Beef Stroganoff over rice, Salad
Monday--Chinese takeout as Hubs is out of town(comes out of entertainment budget, not food)
Tuesday--Chicken Enchiladas(using pepper strips and chicken from freezer)
Wednesday--Not sure, 2 of us might be out of town for the day..Hubs will make pasta or have leftovers.....if we don't go, Quiche(using up half & half)most probably will be served and squash.
Thursday--Cook-Out(if the weather cooperates)-not sure what yet beyond dogs and burgers.
Friday--Red Robin(#1 Son's birthday meal he requested)(entertainment budget, not food)
Saturday--Beef Stroganoff over rice or Chicken Enchiladas leftovers, Brussel Sprouts
(Sunday next will be whichever leftover we don't have on Saturday too, along with some veggies. lol)

On the shopping list so far--Monterey Jack & Swiss cheese, fruit, eggs, squash and corn, rolls, chips, ground beef for the cook-out so far.

I've got my $400 food budget for July available and ready to start spending.

That's what's appearing on the kitchen table this week here at Chez Sluggy.

Food Spending Sept. Week 3, Meal Planning Week 4

Another Food Waste Poster from the US Food Administration during World War II

***********************************

And here is the "meal plan" that actually happened last week.  It was pretty close to what I had planned....

Sunday--Burgers on Rolls, Corn
Monday--Stuffed Shells, Green Beans
Tuesday--Pork Chops, Potatoes au Gratin, Beets, Apples
Wednesday--Beef Enchiladas, leftover Corn
Thursday--Leftover Pork Chops on Biscuits. leftover Apples--only 2 home
Friday--Chinese take-out--only 2 home
Saturday--Pizza

The weekly food spending was  $157.04 in reg. grocery spending.
An insane amount for me but I did do some deals.....Nesquick & 22 boxes of Kraft dinner for Son, instant coffee for Hubs, coffee-mate, Lean Pockets & juice for Daughter, 10 boxes of oatmeal, 4 boxes of trash bags for me, and 7 lbs. of ground beef(which I used to make a LOT of meatballs!lol), 3lbs. of bacon(I found some clearance packs that didn't cost up the wazoo finally!lol), fresh fruit, milks, evaporated milk(pumpkin pie making Season is coming!), and a pie just because I wanted it. ;-)

Oh, and 11 bags of salty snacks(house brand AND I got $5 back so they cost .55¢ each to hide and dole out over the next 3 months to Son to make them last.
Yah I bought a bunch of crap this week along with the good stuff......crap I don't eat(Kraft, Coffee-mate and Nesquick)but I DID eat some pie.....so kill me. ;-)

I've spent $410.86 of my $400 monthly food budget so far this month.
I'll try to not spend on food this week.  Looking at the ads it WILL be easy as there are no deals I like.  I'll just pick up what is needed for this week's menu.

I am going into the new week with these leftovers......1 Beef Enchilada, a couple of Biscuits.  Nothing to incorporate into a new dinner but stuff I can finish up at Lunch time.

***********************

This week's menu.....
Sunday--Spaghetti and Meatballs, Caesar Salad
Monday--Taco Bell or Make Something Yourself-I ain't cooking!
Tuesday--Gourmet Onion Soup
Wednesday--Quiche Lorraine, Tossed Salad
Thursday--Fried Flounder, Fries and Green Beans
Friday--Corned Beef, Cabbage, Potatoes
Saturday--Leftovers

What I need to buy this week to serve this menu?.....Cabbage, Milk.   We should have enough fruit to get us through the week.  Might need some bread though.  I'll try for $10 or less in food spending this week.
Wish me luck....lol

So what are you cooking at your house this week?

Food Spending August Week 2 & Meal Planning Week 3

Repeating the picture above again this week.  I got to thinking and the caption is all wrong!
It should read, "If Looks could kill women wouldn't need CAST IRON SKILLETS.
Am I right? ;-)

*****************************
And here is the "meal plan" that actually happened last week.....

Sunday--Chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti, Green Beans
Monday--Meatloaf, Squash Casserole
Then things went haywire.....
Tuesday--Leftovers
Wednesday--Steak, COC
Thursday--Rigatoni with Mushrooms in Sauce
Friday--More Leftovers + mixed veggies
Saturday--Leftovers Yet Again(plus a big tossed salad)

I only made 2 of the original meals I planned.  Wed and Thurs we changed plans due to a store sale on steak, corn of cob and mushrooms(I had the sauce and pasta already.).  The 2 meatloaves and leftover pasta left us with many leftovers.

The weekly food spending was $188.09.  This is waaaay high for me in just 1 week.
I hadn't counted on the local Shursave market having their semi-annual MEAT SALE last week.  About $150 of that spending was pure meat.  I got a large Pork Shoulder(for smoking and barbecue), 7 lbs. of ribeye steaks and 2 large eye round tenderloins which I hacked up into smallish sirloin steaks and cubed the ends into stewing beef chunks.
Only about $40 of what I spent last week was on non-meat necessities.

I have $91.93 left of my $400 food budget for August.
And it's just the 13th of the month.
A.C.K.

I do have $12 in Cats and a $10 gift card to help get me through the rest of August without going over my $91.93 left.   That gives me around $113 for the rest of the month.  Just keep any deals and sales away from my eyes!lol

Going into the new week I have the following leftovers to use up......meatloaf, rigatoni in sauce.

***********************

This week's menu.....
Sunday--salmon with maple glaze, Stir-fried mixed veg, mashed potatoes
Monday--BLT sandwiches with tomato from our garden...slurp!
Tuesday--tuna helper, caesar salad
Wednesday--Leftovers
Thursday--tacos or taco salad
Friday--burgers, baked beans, cucumber salad
Saturday--Leftovers

I'm going for easy peasy this week on the stovetop or outside on the grill and no running the oven.
What I need to buy this week to serve this menu?.....cucumbers.
I bought bread, carrots, rolls, lunchmeat for lunches and lots of lettuce last week so it's just cukes and milk.  I'm going to try to keep the spending under $20 this week.....I have to use the $12 in Cats this week, so actual $ spending of $8 or less.

So what's on deck for your menu this week?

April Food Spending Week 4, Meal Plan May Week 1

No vintage kitchen today folks.  I have depleted my stash of them and have to seek out more.  Maybe next week....

Onward to the meal plans!
And here is the meal plan that actually happened last week.....
SUNDAY--Leftovers
 MONDAY--Tacos or Taco Salad
TUESDAY--Beef Pie
WEDNESDAY--Eggplant Parmesan, Garlic Bread
THURSDAY--Leftovers
FRIDAY--Chinese Take-Out
SATURDAY--Burgers, Corn
I also made a Carrot Cake and a pan of Fudge with Nuts.

We ended up getting Take-Out one night, which wasn't on the plan.   4 nights of new meals and 2 nights of leftovers make for a week I am happy with.

The weekly food spending was $77.53 this past week.
There was my $29.04 trip to Weis I talked about HERE.  Hubs picked up sour cream, a head of lettuce and 2 bags of cheese during the week and spent $5.97.  I went to the local grocer on Saturday and spent $42.52 on Ginger-Ale, 12 packs of soda for #2 Son, Orange Juice, Whipped Cream, 3 lb. of Butter, Pie Shells, Milk, Taco Shells and more bags of Shredded Cheese.  I stocked up on Butter, OJ, Soda, Whipped Cream, Pasta, Napkins, Paper Towels & bags of Cheese.

The bags of Cheese I bought this past week I used with the Jumbo Pasta Shells and Ricotta Cheese I had bought earlier in the month to make a large quantity of Stuffed Shells on Sunday.  I froze 54 on them and we had the rest for dinner on Sunday.  Figuring costs, each piece comes out to .25¢ counting the pasta sauce too, so approx. $1.00 per serving.
Value of food bought was at $135.53 so my savings rate was 42.80% for the week.
************************

In terms of leftovers, I'm going into this week with leftover Eggplant Parmesan(and 1 helping of Shells from Sunday).

This week's menu.....

SUNDAY--Stuffed Shells
MONDAY--Chicken Fajitas
TUESDAY--Leftover Eggplant/Fajitas
WEDNESDAY--Pizza
THURSDAY--Taco Bell, Salad
FRIDAY--Fish, Rice, Veg.(Son can have leftover Shells)
SATURDAY--Hot Dogs, Corn
This menu gives us 5 new meals and 1 night of leftovers and 1 night of Take-Out.
Hubs won't be home for dinner 2 nights so we are doing easy one night and take-out the other night.

As for items I need to buy for this week....red bell pepper, mushrooms, hot dog rolls.
We'll be buying milk as usual, along with some fruit.

Stock-up prices this week for me are taco shells($1.25), apple juice(.99¢), bagged salad($1.99),green chiles($1.25).

With what I "need" this week and the stock-ups, I'll be spending around $80.

So what is everyone else eating this week?

Sluggy
