Throwback Thursday on Friday...The Old Ball & Chain

Aug. 28, 1982.

32 years ago I said "I Do" to my soul mate.

Love them early 80's fashion and that outdated wedding apparel
And the hair......!!!

I truly have lived the frugal lifestyle.  That wedding was done on a shoestring.  No paid photographer, reception in the church basement, no honeymoon.  I may be wrong but this wedding et al(including rehearsal dinner & reception) cost around $700, much of which we didn't pay for....well we DID "pay" the minister and the state for the license and blood tests, as I rightly recall.
Yes, we were poor students.

I made all the gowns in the wedding party, and the hats too!
My mother was freaked out because I was up until 3am the night before the ceremony still sewing.

Hey!, I was the original Project Runway, wasn't I?
This wedding shindig would have been classier if Tim Gunn had been there though.

Look at the silly idiot in off-white with the 'fro hair.  She thought she knew it all.
And her life didn't turn out anything like she thought it would.

Life is like that, isn't it?  23 year olds plan and g*d laughs. ;-)
But I wouldn't go back and change most of it, and certainly not this part!
Well I would have did my hair differently.....

It's been a hell of a ride so far.
Here's hoping the next 32 years outdo the first......

  1. Happy anniversary Sluggy! Our 34th is coming up next weekend but hubby will be out of town at a convention.

  2. Aww! Happy anniversary. Funny how we all think we know how our lives are going to go...BAHAHAHA!!

  3. Congrats! You both are an amazing couple!
Den and I went to the court house and went back to work. Not even a cake. Oh well, it all worked out so far. We are going on 20 years in October. Guess its not the money invested in the wedding, its the effort invested in the marriage.

  4. Happy Anniversary! Hey at least you had hair back then, mine is getting so thin on top I can see my critters crawling through it! Hope you have a great day!

  5. Hi Slugmama, this is Chris. Happy anniversary. DH and I were married the same year. We had a simple wedding also and were poor students too.

  6. Congratulations. That is so awesome. Our wedding was pretty inexpensive too (in 1999) but I think we still spent a 1,000.00 over the course of a year.

  7. Congratulations to you. You both look cute. I've found thru the years that those marriages in Virgo are the longest lasting!!!

  8. Awesome picture! And, congrats! We got married on the beach in Hawaii, & spent around $5K (including the honeymoon). It was just the two of us, and I wore a $20 sundress. Wouldn't change a thing!

  9. WHOA!

happy anniversary; my 22nd is coming up in october.

  10. Congrtulations to both of you. I made all dresses in the bridal party, too. I did pay for a singer and photographer, but still did not spend more than $300 in 1966. My internet is down and this library computer refuses to let me on my blog. So, maybe I will return with my laptop and sit in the car.

  11. Happy Anniversary to you both! 32 years is quite an accomplishment. I hope you enjoy another 32 together!

  12. I too want to wish you two many happy returns!

  13. Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!

    Judy -udy

  14. Happy Anniversary to you both. I think Sonya Ann has the key! If we don't kill each other before November we will be married 20 years.

  15. Congrats Sluggy! Seeing that picture I can see that DS2 sure looks like your hubby!! (Haven't seen DS1 so can't comment there) I like hubby's long jacket - tres cool! He looks SO HAPPY, why don't you? Probably too tired from the all night sewing marathon!!
