  1. I am never glad to see summer go. I love summer, but at least the temperatures moderate in the Fall and my electric bill goes down until frigid weather. Every year at this time, I am anticipating my birthday on Sept. 11. Then there is another holiday every month-- I love holidays.

My father was sad when September came. He had no shoes to wear to school when he was a child and teen, and he was cold barefoot. Even as an adult with plenty of money for shoes, he was still very melancholy when September rolled around and Fall was close.

He never told me this. My mother told me when I was an older teen. It is one of those things that makes me sad, knowing that he was sad because of no shoes, something we never think we will be without.

So, for the last few days, I have let these sad thoughts slip in when I really am happy. I guess we all have these parents' memories that we hold dear even when they don't affect us directly.

    I will stop.

  2. I like it so much I named my daughter AUTUMN even though she was actually born in the winter!

I love Summer too.... as long as it cools off at night. We are having a heat spell right now. As I was out running errands this afternoon my car's thermometer read 106. That is just too hot!

  3. I am not ready for summer to end. Tomorrow we are leaving for the beach (7 nights) so we can put summer to bed. I love fall. We can finally open the windows and let some fresh air in the house.

  4. Summer here has been brutally hot. The only reprieve is the daily rains to cool it off. I am looking forward to fall and finally having the windows open. Of course that will not be until late October :)

  6. I love the fall! AS a farmer , that is when we see the results of all our labors.
The calves are ready to go to market , the corn is ripe and ready to pick, and the soybeans are ready too.
It is also the time of year the garden comes into its own. Sweet corn, cabbage, beets, potatoes ,swiss chard, zucchini, way too much good food ! And I love it all!

  14. That extra entry for people who blog sort of sucks for those of us who don't blog! LOL I tried to blog about 8 or 9 years ago but that was not a fruitful adventure. Perhaps my wish to be literate enough to blog will serve as an extra entry?

    1. LOL, no, if wishes counted, I would win this these contests more often, win the lottery. Janet, I have seen people who could barely write who had blogs. I struggled to make sense of spelling and sentence meaning. They were not funny, informative or profound. You can do better.

  15. Fall is just more summer till winter. It will start raining at Halloween time. Fall does mean a trip to the apple orchards at "apple hill." Oh, and a trip to PeeA is in the works for my High School Reunion - go Conneaut Lake.

  22. I'm here!!! Did you miss me?
I'm never happy to see summer go. And this summer was a bust. It never did get warm enough to swim as much as I like. The only thing that is keeping me from falling into a deep depression is the fact that we have a Vegas trip coming up.

  33. Fall is my favourite time of the year. Love everything about it. The trees around here turn brilliant shades of red and gold. We burn our woodstove. I burn yummy pumpkin candles. The best thing about fall though is that hockey season starts!! I am a very good Canadian :)

Thing I dislike about fall.....having to turn the furnace on to warm the frigid house this morning....in September...ugh!
