2018 Income & Spending Report.......June Edition

Now that we are living on an annuity(like a pension) and 401K$ withdrawals(retirement savings), I am still going to keep track of our monthly spending and income, and hopefully we'll still be able to live BELOW our means and I'll have some leftover monies each month to tuck aside.

But this money leftover at the end of each month, at least for now(as we find our new financial "normal")won't be saved toward a yearly Savings Challenge.  This leftover cash will go into a "Slush Fund" for now to be used if we have any emergencies come up during the year.  If we still have Slush Funds at the end of the year we'll decide then what to do with them.

I have set up a page to track the Slush Fund.  Click on the tab marked "Slush Fund 2018" at the top of the blog.

I am trying to be as transparent as I can with how much is coming in and how much is going out.  8-)

On to the June 2018 report--

I had 2 goals for June......
The 1st is to actually finish the month in the black and not the red.
The 2nd is to try to have a little cash leftover at the end of the previous month to tuck back into a slush fund.  This slush fun may be to apply toward unforeseen bills that are coming due in subsequent months, to spend on "extras/wants" during the year or to just sit there and grow until the end of 2018.

I have to report that we finished up June in the black.
The extra amount we ended the month of June with?.......$3744.42

Income or Funds We Can Access

The "income" in June---

* Monthly annuity payment of $3218.16(after tax withholding)
* RMSA(Healthcare account)reimbursement of $1813.48
* One third of 401K withdrawal balance(after funding Sinking Fund)for June of $1255.65 #
* Interest earned on non-retirement accounts of $339.16
* Quarterly Stock Dividends received for $99.12
* Electric Co. Deposit from LA  $324.25
* LA house insurance refund $175.28(received in May but not deposited until June)

Total "Income" for June......$7225.10

# We made a 2nd quarter 401K withdrawal in April of $6K.  After withholding for taxes due we got $5170.70 net.  $1383.24 of that gets put into the Sinking Fund to cover irregular bills coming due this quarter(long term care insurance due in April, car insurance due in May). $3766.95 is the balance of the 2nd quarter 401K withdrawal.  This got divided by 3 and gives us $1255.65 extra in June to add to the income for the month(April and May also got $1255.65)for general expenses.

Expenses in June---

* Healthcare Premium for June was $1813.48.(paid with RMSA reimbursement)
* Variable Expenses in June came to $1667.20
* Quarterly Long Term Care insurance came to $520.27.(paid for from Sinking Fund)##

## Quarterly Long Term Carre insurance premium expenses are due in June.  The carryover in the Sinking Fund coming into June was $1077.75.  $520.27 in LTC insurance paid leaves us $557.48 in the Sinking Fund going into July.

We went into June with $13,265.78 in the Slush Fund.
Add in June's overage of $3744.42 to the Slush Fund and it stands at $17,010.20 going into July.

Outgo
As for the variable expenses this June, here are the good and the bad side of things....

HERE are the GOOD THINGS

*  Phone charges and internet were approximately the same as in May(Within $1 or so).
*  The electric bill was $29.19 lower than last month.
*  The gas card charges were $97.48 lower than in May.
*  The cash WAM withdrawals were the same as last month.
*  The health insurance premium was the same as in May.
*  Medical bills were $87.24 lower than last month.

HERE are the BAD THING

*  The water bill was $24.47 higher than May.
*  The credit card bill was $57.45 higher than last month.
*  Quarterly LTC insurance was due this month. This irregular bill is paid out of the Sinking Fund account.

The Food Budget costs for June are in another post, which is located HERE.  Food costs are covered in the credit card payment(sometimes our WAM cash too).

So we end June in the black with $3744.42 in new general overage to add to the Slush Fund.
The Sinking Fund goes into July standing at $557.48,

FINAL THOUGHTS on June---
I did get some items sold on the local FB group page. go me!lolz
Regular bills were quite low generally.
We received quarterly dividends and two different refunds from the LA house.
The $1255.65 of the 401K withdrawal taken wasn't really needed to pay bills in June.
This all combined to give us quite a good overage for this month.
Hubs and I will be sitting down to discuss financial things again as we have passed the 1 year mark of his retirement now.

THOUGHTS going forward into July 2018----This month there are no irregular bills due and the Sinking Fund will get an infusion of $3290.60 from the 401K raising that Fund to $3848.08 in preparation for two large irregular bills due in August/September(house insurance and taxes)and the much smaller Long Term Care premiums due in Sept.  That leaves $1880.12 of the 401K withdrawal to divvy out into each of the next 3 months, giving each month an additional $626.70 toward other expenses.
The WAM withdrawal will be the same in July, $200.
Eldest son changed his plan and is now coming to visit in July so there will be higher spending on food and drink and outings this coming month.

So how was your June financially?

Did you spend less than the income you had in June?
Did you stay within your budget or not?
What did you do with any money leftover at the end of the month?
Did you pay off any debts or put extra toward your mortgage principle or into savings, in an emergency fund or a retirement account?
Or did you blow it on a want?

If you posted your financial progress on your own blog, leave a link in the comments so we can go check out your progress too and celebrate or commiserate with you!

Make this year was the one were you clean up your finances and pay off your debts.
Plan to set something aside if you didn't already or increase what you have banked now for your future self.
Or pay extra on the principle of your mortgage if your house isn't already paid off.

Live below your means and keep some change for a rainy day....because no matter how sunny it is in your life now, dark clouds come along and you'll be glad you have that umbrella to keep you dry.

All together here are the numbers for all my P&G transactions

Total BC spent..............$108.31

Total new BC earned..............$90.00
Total bonus BC earned....$30.00
Total earned......$120.00

This makes all these transactions an $11.69 "moneymaker" as I ended up over three accounts/cards getting back $11.69 more BC than I spent.
"Buying" 48 items and getting $11.69 back in BC than I spent?
Yes please!!!

Now all my Bonus Cash are good for another 60 days(2 months)as it all got rolled over the last two days.

This Week on the Dining Table

The "It's Too Hot to Cook" Edition--

This week(since Friday)has been a scorcher here and it's suppose to continue until the weekend.  The humidity didn't ramp up until yesterday at least so I did do some cooking.  Today the crock pot will be called into service and we'll not be running the oven(Tuesday's pizza may turn into a take-out situation because of the heat instead of homemade).
Do you think I can get away with cereal for dinner for 4 nights? lolz

Moving On....

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned--

1. Sunday--Paella
2. Monday--Chicken Parm(leftover), Pear Gorgonzola Salad
3. Tuesday--Caesar Salad w/Grilled Chicken
4. Wednesday--Seafood Enchiladas, Rice, Beans
5. Thursday--Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches, Cuke Salad

Everything planned was served.
Last week saw lots of cooking although Daughter did some of it. yay!

Last week saw 5 nights of home cooked dinners, 2 night of leftovers/fend for yourself, 0 nights of Take-Out or Eating Out.

A trip to Weis brought the weekly food spending to $17.08 and the monthly total to $417.92.
I have 29 days left in my shopping month for July.

My savings percentages last week was 65.32%(without Rite-Aid trips)and June's monthly savings total came to 65.39%(or 53.78% w/out Rite-Aid).

Leftovers going into this week......Paella, 3 pieces of Chicken Parm, Refried Beans, Spanish Rice and 1 Pork Tenderloin.

Here is this week's "food plan".....

1. Sunday--Chicken w/Queso and Noodles Casserole, Salad
2. Monday--Garlic Pork Roast, Brussels Sprouts, Stuffing
3. Tuesday--Pizza
4. Wednesday--Cook-Out Foods

6. Friday--Leftovers
7. Saturday--Chicken Tenders, leftover Cook-Out sides

This week will see 6 new meals cooked, 1 night of leftovers/FFY and 0 nights of Take-Out/Eating Out.

What needs buying for this menu? Potatoes, peppers, watermelon, tomatoes, corn, milk and we need bread.
I'm hoping to get through this week on $50 or less.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

Rolling the BC at Rite-Aid

Here's how I rolled my Bonus Cash at Rite-Aid so far.
I had to change my plan on the fly because our area didn't get the $3/1 Tide Q in the insert....just a message to go online to the P and G site to download that Q and of course, the site only let's you download one of each Q. sigh.

First on Daughter's card.........

2 x Tide on sale=$11.88
4 x Head and Shoulders on sale=$23.96
Subtotal.......$35.84

Coupons Used
2 x $3/1 Tide(1 IPQ/1 L2CQ)=$6.00
2 x $4/2 HandS ManuQ=$8.00
Coupon Total.....$14.00

$35.84-$14.00=$21.84+$1.31 tax=$23.15

Except that I had five shampoos and my $2/1 Head and Shoulders Load2CardQ didn't come off so I returned it.  Tracking still gave me credit for that $5.99 so I am ahead a bit if that tracking stays.
What I actually paid remains the same as the refund returns BC not cash.

Paid with BC, earned back $15 new BC for spending $30.
I also earned a bonus $5 in BC for spending $25 but those BC will be put onto my card by 7/21 per the email informing me about this special deal for Gold Members.
So eventually I'll have earned $20 BC and my "spend down" will amount to $3.15 on this transaction.

I need to wait until Monday when these $15 get credited to this card to do this Deal again as I don't have enough BC on this card until then.
I have $11.83 tracking toward my second $30 Deal so only have to spend $18.17 next time.

Then I did this transaction on my son's card........

2 x Head and Shoulders on sale=$11.98
3 x Pantene on sale=$10.50
2 x Tampax on sale=$8.00
SubTotal.........$30.48

Coupons Used
1 x $4/2 HandS ManuQ=$4.00
1 x $5/3 Pantene ManuQ=$5.00
1 x $3/2 Tampax ManuQ=$3.00
Coupon Total.......$12.00

$30.48-$12.00=$18.48+.81¢ tax=$19.27
Paid for with BC, earned $15 in new BC(plus $5 in bonus BC by 7/21).
After the bonus BC gets on my card this is a .73¢ moneymaker.
I have .48¢ tracking toward my second $30 Deal.

Then on my card I did this.......

1 x Bounty towels on sale=$6.94
3 x Pantene on sale=$10.50
2 x Febreeze on sale=$5.98
2 x Tampax on sale=$8.00
SubTotal......$31.42

Coupons Used
1 x $1.50/1 Bounty IPQ(higher value than the one in the insert)=$1.50
1 x $5/3 Pantene ManuQ=$5.00
1 x BOGOFree Febreeze ManuQ=$2.99
1 x $3/2 Tampax ManuQ=$3.00
Coupon Total....$12.49

$31.42-$12.49=$18.93+.82¢ tax=$19.75
Paid with BC, earned back $15 BC(and $5 bonus BC by 7/21).
After that comes in this becomes a .25¢ moneymaker.
I have $1.42 tracking toward the second $30 Deal so have to spend $28.58

So I went ahead since I had enough BC left on my card and did the Deal again......

3 x Pantene on sale=$10.50
3 x Puffs tissue on sale=$2.97
2 x Febreeze on sale=$5.98
2 x Dawn on sale=$1.98
2 x Tampax on sale=$8.00
SubTotal.....$29.43

Coupons Used
1 x $5/3 Pantene ManuQ=$5.00
3 x .50¢/1 Puffs ManuQ=$1.50
1 x BOGOFree Febreeze ManuQ=$2.99
2 x .25¢/1 Dawn ManuQ=.50¢
1 x $3/2 Tampax ManuQ=$3.00
Coupon Total......$12.99

$29.43-$12.99=$16.44+.69¢ tax=$17.13
Paid for with BC, earned back $15 in new BC(and $5 in bonus BC by 7/21).
Once the bonus BC is credited to the card, this transaction becomes a $2.87 moneymaker.

Altogether I am $3.83 moneymaker and spent down $3.19 in BC so overall I have a .64¢ moneymaker on all this so far, even with paying sales tax so I am all good with this. 8-)))

TOTAL Savings with Rite-Aid items........65.39%

This closes out the June food/toiletries spending.

THOUGHTS & COMMENTS for this month.....
June was almost on target spending wise.  It's a good thing after May's budget buster.

The monthly food spending savings percentage went Down by 4.11% in June 2018 to 65.39% compared to May's 69.50% savings average.
The free stuff from Rite-Aid skewers my averages but without R-A I am at 53.78% savings.  So even without R-A we are doing well on the "savings" front.

With 6 months accounted for, I have spent a Grand Total of $2637.33 on food/toiletries in 2018 which is a 73.28savings rate for the year so far and averages out to $439.56 spent per month in 2018.  We are heading back down toward my $400 a month average target again and that's a good thing.

LOOKING AHEAD To July.......
Keeping with that $400 food budget for July.  If I go over as mush as $50 I am good with it since eldest son is coming home for a few days so we might splash out a bit more on food things.

If you have other ideas or guidelines you follow please leave a comment and share yours with us all.

*  How much did you spend on food/toiletries in June?
*  Do you track your yearly food spending?
*  What was your savings percentage buying on sale and/or with coupons vs. buying at regular retail price last month, if you track that sort of thing?
*  What are your methods for keeping your food spending in check?

Is anyone out there up for tracking expenditures and trying to spend less but still eat well?
