Au Revoir St. Denis

Well there will be no converting a Church into a home, a B&B or a brewpub in my immediate future.

Though it would have been awesome, especially since this church/parish was called St. Denis'(it was opened as a mission church under the moniker St. John the Baptist in 1889, but soon became St. Denis and served the Irish Catholic immigrant population from 1900 until 2002 ).

When I found out the name of this church, I immediately thought that a church called St. Denis would make the perfect place to brew beer, since the name Denis/Dennis is derived from the Greek god Dionysius, who is the god of wine and feasting.

Had we opened a brewpub in it, my oldest brother, Dennis, would have looked down from Heaven upon the venture and smiled.  8-)

But this one is not to be.

Mine tunnels underground, the money that would have had to have been spent to get this place up to snuff, and the unknown condition of the rectory house(and it's costs)is beside the point.
When you come down to the core of the matter--we just don't want to live in this part of Pennsylvania in retirement.

Plain and simple.

Had I grown up here I might have a soft spot for this area but I feel much like The Grinch as my heart feels two sizes too small when I think about this place.

So that's that.

But much to Hubs chagrin, I do have another plan incubating in my little pea brain.
About that, all will be revealed in due time.....

Rite-Aid Last Week.....I Made $2.01

Before I left for Delaware and a bunch of fun, I had $13 in +Up Rewards to spend before they expired on the 12th.  I couldn't show you until now because 2 of the items were surprises for people at the Bloggerpalooza II.

Here is what I got......

1 x Mucinex Allergy 20% wellness disc.=$7.19
1 x RA brand lip "stuff" on sale=$1.29
2 x Ghirardelli chocolate bars on sale=$4.00
2 x Scott 4packs TP on sale $3.99=$7.98 *not pictured*
Subtotal.......$20.46

Coupons Used
1 x $5/1 Mucinex Allergy ManuQ=$5.00
1 x $2.50/1 Mucinex Allergy VideoValues Q=$2.00
Coupon Total.....$7.00

$20.46-$7.00=$13.46

I used $13 in UPs.....$13.46-$13.00 +.03¢ tax= .49¢ Out of Pocket

Nice. 8-)

While I didn't received any new +Up Rewards back there is a $2.50 rebate on the Mucinex Allergy I will send for, so in the end I will GET $2.01 in cash($1.56 after I pay for a stamp to mail the rebate if you are a stickler)for buying all this.

And everything bought was needed/wanted......

We get bad allergies in the Spring so I'll definitely try out this new allergy med.
#2 Son was almost out of lip "stuff".
I needed the chocolate for presents at the Delaware meet up.
The TP I gave away to a friend who's hubs is laid off now...saw her in the Rite-Aid so handed her those bags. ;-)

I now have $0 in +Ups to roll/spend so the Rite-Aid Monkey is off my back and I can stay out of that store until some great deal comes along.
And it will.
But hopefully it will be in a month or two and I can take a break.

So what's the last good deal you got at Rite-Aid or one of the other drugstore chains?

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Why, Oh Why, Do I Have to Come Home to My Boring Life" Edition.......

Who can meal plan when all I want to do is relive last weekend in my head?  This shot was taken at The Purple Parrot in Rehoboth Beach DE.  We had lunch there on Saturday.  It was all decked out for St. Patty's Day weekend.
And frankly, that sign wasn't the only thing lit up there when I left....... ;-)

And here is what was planned last week---

Sunday--Chicken with Pot Pie Noodles, Carrots
Monday--Beef Stew with onions, carrots, potatoes and I might throw in the leftover asparagus too!
Tuesday--Fend for Yourself(Hubs not home for dinner)
Wednesday--Burgers or Sloppy Joes, Sugar Snap Peas
Thursday--?
Friday--?
Saturday--?

And here is what actually happened---

Sunday--Chicken with Pot Pie Noodles, Carrots
Monday--Beef Stew with onions, carrots, potatoes and I might throw in the leftover asparagus too!
Tuesday--Chicken Sandwich, Salad(I was the only one home for dinner.)
Wednesday--Burgers, Sugar Snap Peas
Thursday--I don't care what they ate. Bwaaaaahhh
Friday--Ditto
Saturday--Ditto

Everything as planned.
My guys got pizza on Saturday and they ate leftovers on Friday and I didn't even ask about Thursday.

As for the food spending update.....I spent a total of $87.96 on groceries last week between the Bread Outlet and Weis(PoundMeInTheAss)Markets.  Saved 34.46% over regular retail in all as I bought some things not on sale.  Not great but not bad.

I have spent a total of $233.96 in March of our $300-$400 food budget.  I'm going to try to eat from the pantry/freezer/stockpile and not shop for food this week as much as possible. I'd like to go into the final week of March having spent under $300 for the month.

Oh and no food waste last week either.

Going into the new week here are the leftovers we have......2 med. helpings of Chicken w/Pot Pie Noodles and Carrots, 1 cantaloupe, 4lbs. of yellow squash, a large helping of Beef Stew.

Here is this week's meal plan----

Sunday--Hamburger & Noodles, Sugar Snap Peas(I just had a bowl of veggies.)
Monday--leftover Chicken w/Pot Pie Noodles and Carrots
Tuesday--Meatloaf(freezer), Squash Casserole(use the squash on hand)
Wednesday--Crab Cakes(freezer), Haddock(freezer), Sautéed Green Beans(freezer)
Thursday--Kielbasa(freezer) on Rolls, Squash Casserole(leftovers), Potato Salad
Friday--Pork Chop(freezer), Roasted Cauliflower and Carrots, Applesauce
Saturday--Roast Chicken(freezer), Sweet Corn Cake, Veggie Mélange(freezer)

What I need to purchase for this menu?.......Rolls for the Kielbasa, Cauliflower and turkey deli meat for lunches, any spices or staples we've run out of(I haven't checked on things yet), and maybe some loss leaders.
I am hoping to spend $40 or less for all.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

May the Devil Know Them From Their Limping

And if you know the rest of that Irish toast, you are my kind of people!

Well I bugged out of Delaware just in time, beating the snow storm that came east.
I arrived home at 4pm and never hit any precipitation along the way.
This storm passed through Pennsylvania too but didn't spread to the northern environs were I live.
I'm sorry my new friends Todd and Ann Marie who had planned on staying through Monday had to leave Lewes early. 8-(

Anyway, I napped when I got home yesterday from the Bloggerpalooza II and I will spend today catching up on my sleep with another nap later this afternoon.
I'll be back tomorrow with my "This Week on the Dining Table" post.  Yes, I'll be a day late but nothing new for me, right? lolz

Instead of raising a pint(or five)today, I'll be drying out from my trip to Bloggerpalooza II.
It goes against all my Gaelic DNA but it must be done.

I'll leave you, this fine, but chilly, Saint Patrick's Day with a musical interlude from Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis that I "heart" alot.

From all my O'Brien, McCarthy, Kelleher, O'Neal, Bowman, Redfern, McGovern, Healey, Roche, Forrester/Foster, Carey, Chaplin, Flippen, Cashion, Claiborne and all the other unknown-to-me at this time Irish Ancestors.

To my new friends from Bloggerpalooza I'll lift my glass and toast you all....

"May the hinges on our friendship never grow rusty."

Sláinte!
