My best 3 Store Savings Totals were Rite-Aid at 100%, CVS at 96.15% and Schiff's at 60.01% .

I shopped at 9 different stores in November.
I also earned $173.50 in cash rebates in November(Ibotta/Coupons dotcom app)which helps offset the spending once I cash all the rebates in at the end of 2020 and add them into my totals.

TOTAL Spent(without R-A)...................$385.33
TOTAL Coupons/Store Sales................$578.59
TOTAL Value of Items Purchased........$963.92
TOTAL Savings of ................................60.02%

Add in the Rite-Aid purchases and we get.........

TOTAL Spent........................................$385.33
TOTAL Coupons/Store Sales................$2071.25
TOTAL Value of Items Purchased........$2456.58
TOTAL Savings of ................................84.31%

This closes out the November food/toiletries spending.

THOUGHTS & COMMENTS for this month.....Thanksgiving was an intimate affair this year of only 4 people. I picked up a few seasonal deals and I did my usual Rite-Aid pillaging for the 3 day Black Friday sale.  Plus found some good deals at other stores throughout the month of November.  It was a good November in terms of food spending.

The monthly food spending savings percentage went UP by an amazing 16.84% in November 2020 to 84.31% compared to the October 2020 rate of 67.47% savings average.  Rite-Aid Black Friday sales do that to my November totals every year. 8-)))

With 11 months accounted for, I have spent a Year-To-Date Total of $4,239.97 on food/toiletries in 2020.
I had wanted to stay under $4K in food spending in 2020.  Higher prices due to Covid derailed me for a bit but once I add in all my rebates/refunds/post coupon/found money pots into the grocery spending category I will most assuredly be back under $4K spent on food for the year as I have well over $1K in rebates right now to dump back into the grocery fund and I have 1 more month to do better too. ;-)

2020 Yearly Grand Total Spent.....................$4,239.97
2020 Yearly Grand Total Value of Items.....$14,114.06
2020 Grand Total Saved.................................$9874.09
2020 Yearly Savings Total............69.96%

The average per month amount spent is $385.45 at this point in 2020 which went down .01¢ from October's average.  As long as I'm around $400 per month with 3(now 2 but we feed EX-CB sometimes and his roommate too)people in the house, it's all good.

LOOKING AHEAD To December 2020..........The big unknown is who will be here for Christmas due to Covid.  More folks means more food spending in general since some who may be coming have food allergies and/or preferences so in order to accommodate everyone I may need to spend a little more....if they come.  I've got turkey breasts and hams in the chest freezer so unless I splash out on a beef roast there aren't any large food purchases for Xmas that I can foresee.
Overall I don't plan to spend more than my usual $400 food budget in December and perhaps I can reign that amount in a bit as well.  Time will tell.
As far as normal meals, Hubs and I are going to use up some more frozen assets this month so maybe I won't need to buy very much at the grocery stores?  Sluggy plans and G** laughs!

If you have other ideas or guidelines you follow please leave a comment and share yours with us all.

*  How much did you spend on food/toiletries in November?  Are you happy with that amount and did you get good value for your money?

*  Do you track your yearly food spending?

*  What was your savings percentage buying on sale and/or with coupons vs. buying at regular retail price last month, if you track that sort of thing?

*  What are your methods for keeping your food spending in check?

Is anyone out there up for tracking expenditures and trying to spend less but still eat well?

THOUGHTS & COMMENTS for this month.....
Well, I did go over my $400 goal for November.  But if I take the almost $100 I didn't spend in my October food budget that more than makes up for the overspending in November.  Averaging the 2 months out I am still on target for the year. 8-)))

The monthly food spending savings percentage went UP an amazing 6.04% in November 2018 to 80.20% compared to October's 74.16% savings average.  Most of that was thanks to freebies at Rite-Aid.
The free stuff from Rite-Aid skewers my averages but without R-A I am at a 59.10% savings.  So even without R-A we are doing well on the "savings" front.

With 11 months accounted for, I have spent a Grand Total of $4747.03 on food/toiletries in 2018 which is a 74.55% savings rate for the year so far and averages out to $431.55 spent per month in 2018.   Still over my $400 per month average goal but this monthly average will go down in December as I cash out all my rebates/cash envies to apply toward the December spending.

LOOKING AHEAD To December.......
Let the Holiday games continue! Lots of cheap and free stuff was had in November.  If the deals present themselves I will continue to pick items up if it's something we can/will use or I can donate to the food bank and doesn't put me over budget.
I've got well over $550 so far in various envies/rebate apps/etc. to dump back into the food spending and I've got another few weeks to earn more so I've soooo got this!!! ;-)

What is more impressive is that I had a 50.31% savings rate at Weis Markets AND I spent almost $150 there.  It's easy to get a great savings rate at a store where you only buy a few things but is you make many purchases there it's a lot more difficult!

I shopped at 11 different stores this past month.  I tried a few of new places for me or places I don't go to often as it's not in my regular routine.

THOUGHTS & COMMENTS for this month.....

Well I sucked big time at staying under $350 in November.  What can I say......

The monthly savings percentage went down by 10.13% in November to 55.71% compared to October's 65.84% average.  I blame this on me buying stuff not at it's best low price in order to have enough spending at the local market to earn a gift certificate during their yearly promotion.  I also bought things I don't need now(stocked up)and not at the best prices. sigh.  With the way I shop I haven't been able to earn one of those certificates for YEARS now!  But every year I fall back into a bad pattern and try to spend, spend, spend. sigh.
I need to pull this post up next Nov. 1st and reread it so I don't fall into that old familiar trap next year!

The savings percentage went down for the year by .03% after adding November's numbers in.

Total spend on food/toiletries so far this year after 11 months.....$4,588.66.

The average monthly food/toiletries spending to-date for the year after adding in November's numbers is back up to $417.15.   That's what happens when you spend almost $600 in one month on food/toiletries.
bleh.

I have a decision to make concerning $17 I was refunded at Rite-Aid this month(a $12 refund and a $5 refund for +Up Rewards and Coupons that were applied post sale.  I'll just use this to cover my small amounts I pay on each transaction at R-A after the +Up Rewards are applied to my total in December, which means that probably ALL my OOP costs will be covered until the end of the year at Rite-Aid.
8-)))

LOOKING AHEAD TO DECEMBER......

Let's just say I'm planning on staying under $5K total for the year on food/toiletries spending. That gives me $411.34 to play with in December.  College Boy will be home most of December as he comes home from school for the term a week from this Friday.

I would really like to keep the yearly spending total at $4,800.  This gives me a monthly average for the year of $400 a month spent.  Sounds much better than a $416 per month total that staying under $5,000 gives me.
But that would mean limiting myself to $211.34 food spending in December.  I probably could do that, especially if we eat out for dinner more than 2 times this month.

I'll try to keep it under that but don't hold your breath.
I suck.......

TOTAL Coupons & Store Sales Savings...$903.25
TOTAL Value of Items Purchased............$1,486.03
TOTAL Savings of...................................60.78%

This closes out the November food/toiletries spending.

THOUGHTS & COMMENTS for this month.....

I went into November with my usual $400 budgeted for food/toiletries purchases.
I went over by $182.78.
Yikes!
Now this will only be ok if I can lower my food spending in December accordingly by about $180ish.
Spend more in November?.....spend that much less in December.

As you can see my Savings Rate skyrocketed in November for the 40's to the 60's, because of my Rite-Aid shopping.
Without the Rite-Aid totals added in, my November Savings Rate is 48% which is more in line with my track record this year.  Add in Rite-Aid totals and my overall Savings Rate is 60.78%.

You will notice though, Rite-Aid shopping aside, that my savings rates in November were REALLY good!  My lowest rate was 33.53%.  Some months 33% is my best savings rate! lol  I got some really really great deals on prices in November so I am NOT going to whine about overspending too much. 8-)

Looking ahead to December---We are not holding a big Christmas gathering here so we won't be having much extra food spending.  And if I can keep from buying a Prime Rib Roast like I did last year, the Christmas food spending shouldn't get out of hand.  We will be doing our traditional Christmas Even dinner out but that cost comes out of the Christmas budget.
To get to the spending threshold to earn the Thanksgiving Gift Certificate in November I have stocked up on quite a few items I won't have to spend on in December.  I am going to try to eat from the stockpile this month and keep Food Spending in December to between $250-$300.

And here is the run down of my Food & Toiletries Spending for 2013 so far this year--

2013 Total Saved $3,426.65

2013 Yearly Total Value of Items  $7,702.36

2013 Yearly Total Spent $4,275.71

2013 Yearly Savings Total of  44.49%

In November, total savings percentage for the year has gone UP 3.89% over October's year-to-date total of 40.60%, to 44.49%.
Holding steady in the mid 40%s with one more month of food spending to go.  I would be very happy to end the year with a savings rate in the 40's.

The average monthly food/toiletries spending so far this year stands at $388.70.
Let's see if I can keep the average monthly spending below $400 for the year after December is done.

How much did you spend on food in November?

This closes out the November spending.

THOUGHTS & COMMENTS for this month.....

I went into November with $400 budgeted for food/toiletries for the month.  I was able to keep under my food budget with more than $20 leftover.

My grocery savings hovered at just below 71% for November after rebates.  If you take the Rite-Aid purchases out of the equation, my savings percentage falls to around 52%, which is quite good actually.  I'm usually around 33% savings for just the food stores.
I continued to shop the loss leaders and sales and stocked up when things were at rock bottom price in the sales cycles.  I also continued to not use many coupons at all at the food shops but I did take advantage of Catalina Deals and Store Instant Savings Promotions that were offered for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Of course, the small pile of coupons used at the grocery stores does NOT include the vast amounts I utilize at Rite-Aid.  I am indeed the Coupon Diva at Rite-Aid. ;-)

LOOKING AHEAD TO DECEMBER......

I will be keeping my food budget at $400 for December. We will be doing a fair amount of eating out in December after my oldest comes home for Christmas, but that money doesn't come out of the Food Budget.  It will come out of the money put aside for Christmas.
There will be some Holiday cooking and extra baking but at this point I have already picked up many of the supplies for that in November.
So $400 should be adequate for our needs in December.

How did you do in November with your Food Budget?
Did you stick to your budget?
Did you find any good rock bottom prices to stock up on groceries?

Please leave a comment or link to your post and let us hear about your progress!  By sharing our struggles and efforts we can help each other stick to our budgets and learn to be better guardians of our resources.

November Food Spending Week 4, Meal Plan Week 4+/December Week 1

Last week's meal plan is in the books.  Here is what actually happened....

SUNDAY--Pot Roast, Carrots, Potatoes, Onions w/Gravy
MONDAY--Tilapia, Mixed Veg, Sweet Potato Fries
TUESDAY--Tacos, Corn
WEDNESDAY--Leftovers
THURSDAY--Turkey Thanksgiving Dinner
FRIDAY--Leftovers
SATURDAY--Chinese Take-Out

No Squash casserole night again, because though I actually got to the Product market last week I forgot the yellow squash.  I am claiming I was so overcome by the beauty of the Rutabagas....yah, that's my story. ;-)  Lots of leftovers.  We are almost at the end of Thanksgiving leftovers(except for the stuffing)and we still have taco beef.

Total for all the food shopping last week came to $56.02.  I had to use half of my ShurSave Reward money and I still spent $17.46 OOP.  I spent $13.02 at the Produce market(and I got some extra sweet potatoes for later). 2 trips for milk last week and I was at $249.47 for the month.

Then Daughter came home and decided she needed yogurt(which she didn't eat all of before she left to go back to school), and frozen pizzas(1 of which she didn't eat).  I asked her to pick me up a few more apples for a pie.....so she bought beautiful eating apples NOT on sale instead of  "I don't care what it looks like as long as it's cheap" apples to put in a pie.  5 apples that cost over $6...EEK!  We had some words about buying apples afterwards.....lol
So I will blame Daughter for tipping me over my $250 food budget for November.

My savings percentage was 50.03% last week, as the reg. retail was $112.10 on the groceries I brought home.
My running total spent for the month is now at $269.54.  I have to food shop tomorrow as I have a $10 ShurSave markets reward left that expires on that day.  I will try to keep it as close to $10 as possible.

This week's menu.....

SUNDAY--Leftovers(Pot Roast)
MONDAY--Taco Bell
TUESDAY--Leftovers(Turkey)
WEDNESDAY--Leftover Tacos or Taco Salad
THURSDAY--Chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti, Salad
FRIDAY--Subway or Chinese Take-Out or Pizza
SATURDAY--Chicken Casserole(uses up leftover stuffing), Veggie TBD

Items needed for this menu.....nothing really, I have everything I need to make it all....except for the Subway and the Taco Bell of course.
I don't plan on any food shopping this week except to use that $10 in Rewards on Wednesday.  Basically this week's ads suck, as they always do the week after the Thanksgiving Holiday.

I'll be posting my Monthly Food Spending Post in the next day or two as time permits between dealing with Real Life and eBay stuff.

And of course my posting about food shopping this month isn't complete without a mention of.....

November Food Spending Week 3, Meal Plan Week 4

Last week's meal plan is in the books.  Here is what actually happened....

SUNDAY--Homemade Chicken Pot Pie
MONDAY--Spaghetti & Homemade Meatballs
TUESDAY--Teriyaki Salmon w/ Veggie Fried Rice
WEDNESDAY--Leftovers
THURSDAY--Kielbasa, Potato Salad, Cabbage
FRIDAY--Chinese Take-Out
SATURDAY--Take-Out Pizza *at behest of Hubs and #2 son

No Breakfast for Dinner night, Chinese take-out instead.  No Squash casserole night because I never got to the Product market last week for said squash, so we had leftovers instead. And I was out voted on Saturday and a pizza was ordered(using a gift card).

Last week was all about many little food shopping trips revolving around....say it with me!....GRAVY!
8 transactions at Weis Markets(aka Evil Empire)and 1 trip to the RSS(aka Restaurant Supply Store)for blue cheese dressing(aka PRECIOUS).

Total for all the food shopping last week came to $91.07.

That sure sounds like A LOT of $$ to me, but look at what I got for that amount.....
93 cans of gravy
21 cans of soup
1 bag stuffing
4 bags of croutons
6 bags of frozen potato/onion rings
2 bags of salad
2 cans of pineapple
4 bags of cheese
8 containers of sour cream
2 cans of cranberry sauce
5 3-packs of yeast
11 single packs of yeast
2 boxes of broth
1 applesauce cups
2 boxes of pie crust
2 bags of green beans
1 gallon of dressing
1 14-cut cheesecake
1 turkey
The only thing missing is a Partridge in a Pear Tree.....
If I saw it all sitting out together I'd think I did good.  I need my visuals people!lol

My savings percentage was 72.40% last week, as the reg. retail was $329.84 on the groceries I brought home.
My running total spent for the month is now at $213.52, which leaves me $36.48 to stay within my $250 monthly food budget.  Ok, I "really" have $39.48 since I have $3 in rebates this month to throw into the food kitty....which is how I handle rebate $. 8-)

This week's menu.....

SUNDAY--Pot Roast, Carrots, Potatoes, Onions w/Gravy
MONDAY--Tilapia, Squash Casserole, Sweet Potato Fries
TUESDAY--Chicken Parmesan, Pasta, Salad
WEDNESDAY--Tacos, Veg.
THURSDAY--Turkey Thanksgiving Dinner
FRIDAY--Chili or Leftovers
SATURDAY--Leftovers

Items needed for this menu.....Yellow Squash, Bell Seasoning, Rutabaga, Sweet Potatoes, Celery and Milk.  I have $20 in store Rewards I have to spend by Saturday or lose them, so I'll get as much of this as I can at the ShurSave store.
This is the last food shopping Week in the month.  Between the free $20 rewards and the $39 I have left, I think I'll be able to stay under budget for November...yay!

Unless of course, I start jonesing for some more Gravy! lol

So have you run out of food budget yet this month?
Or do you have lots of cash left?
