This Week on the Dining Table

The "Lots of Snow Here & More Coming" Edition........

Here's what we got overnight.....about 1 inch.  That's on top of the 5 inches we got overnight Friday/Saturday.
These Nor' Easters are tricky where we live.  They can track more west and we get dumped on too like the coast.  This one is suppose to stay east so we won't be looking at a potential of 3 feet here.  Maybe another 6 inches.
Another storm is due in Thursday from the North but shouldn't give us but a few more inches.
Ah, the joys of January in NEPA! lolz

Here's what was planned last week.....................

1.  Leftover Lasagna
2.  Garlic Ginger Shrimp Stir-fry
3.  Bean and Ham Soup(If too salty for me I'll eat Broc/Caul. Soup.)
4.  Chicken Parmesan, Salad
5.  Broiled Salmon, Coleslaw, Veggie
6.  Leftovers
7. Birthday Meal out(probably steak)

And this is what actually happened--

1.  Leftover Lasagna, Steamed Broccoli
2.  Chicken Parmesan, Salad
3.  Birthday Meal out-Steak, Salad, Green Beans
4.  Leftover Broccoli-Cauliflower Soup
5.  Breaded Fish, Coleslaw, Steamed Sugar Snap Peas
6.  Brisket on Rolls, Coleslaw
7.  Leftover Lasagna, Salad

Substituted Breaded Fillets for Salmon and didn't make the Shrimp or Bean Soup yet.  Still eating on that Lasagna too. burp

Last week I made 3 trips(Hubs made another one too)to 2 different grocery stores here and spent $92.79 on $197.12 reg. retail worth of food.

My spending so far for January on food is $258.08 for $545.00 worth of food.(Not counting Rite-Aid.)
I went $7+ over on my self-imposed $250 budget for January and there are 5 days left in the month.

Let's see if I can keep from setting foot into a grocery store until Feb. 1st(Sunday) and dig through the pantry/freezer to come up with meals for this week.  I might break down and go Saturday as there are about $10 worth of deals I want.

Leftovers going into this week are barbecue, coleslaw and breaded fish.

Here is the plan for this week.........

1.  Leftovers(I had soup, hubs had hot dogs)
2.  Risotto with Chicken & Mushrooms
3.  Leftover BBQ, Coleslaw
4.  Chicken & Dumplings, Carrots
5.  Bean and Ham Soup, Brussells Sprouts
6.  Tuna Noodle Casserole, Veggie
7.  Leftovers

I bought a cheap small whole chicken last week(instant discount sticker)so I've got it in the crockpot today cooking away.  Will use half for Risotto tonight and the other half of the meat and stock from simmering the bones in Chicken 'n Dumplings later this week.  Tomorrow I'll make the Ham & Bean soup.
We still have 2 helpings of Lasagna leftover even after having it for dinner and lunch last week.  That will probably go into the freezer this week.

I can do this plan without buying anything this week.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten that week?

Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

This Week On the Dining Table

I'm late as usual with the meal plan stuff......ugh....

Here's what was planned last week--

Sunday--Cookout...burgers, dogs, homemade potato salad and baked beans and new pickles(all low sodium except for the nitrite-free bacon in the beans)
Monday--Bob Evans cooked us dinner(used a coupon for a BOGO deal)...I had potato crusted flounder.
Tuesday--Chicken & Dumplings-using leftover roasted chicken-not sure how much of this I can let myself have yet
Wednesday--Catfish fry, leftover baked beans, carrots and potato salad
Thursday--leftover Garlic Chicken w/Broccoli and coconut rice
Friday--Ravioli in Sauce w/leftover meatballs, green salad
Saturday--Whatever is still leftover
The Ravioli didn't happen on Friday or any other day.
Friday I served leftovers as well as on Saturday.

I spent $78.86 at the grocery store last week when I only wanted to spend $40-$50, putting me .35¢ over $500 in food spending for May.
Those "ICE" drinks put me over, all 38 of them.  But I am set for the summer now with those.  No more beverage spending until Fall, except for the adult beverages.... ;-)

Leftovers at the moment consist of 1 piece of catfish(will use for a fish sandwich).  I had the 1 serving of chicken and dumpling this morning for breakfast.  Chicken & Dumplings aka Southern Penicillin...... 8-)

Here's this week's meal plan--
Sunday--Hot Dogs, leftover beans, corn and 'new pickles'
Monday--Fend for Yourself night as Hubs was late from an out-of-town meeting
Tuesday--Chicken Fajitas
Wednesday--Chicken Parm, Sumer Squash Casserole
Thursday--Tacos
Friday--Fajitas Redux
Saturday--WTHK--->Who The Heck Knows!

I've already spent $43 and change at the grocery store.  We went to the restaurant supply store on Sunday as they had a $5 off $50 coupon.  We got lots of produce, some eggs, crabmeat and Doritos for #2 Son plus bought a plastic tray for bringing food out to the patio set to dine al fresco this Summer.  Will make the transporting much easier I think!
It came to $46 after coupon but they overcharged me on the crabmeat so I got a $3 credit on the c/c, making it $43 and change.
I need to pick up more turkey meat and milk still this week.  All the proteins this week are from the freezer(have to empty it some before they bring the new one TODAY!!!--can you tell I am excited?lol), and I'm not stocking up on anything, making this a cheaper shopping week.

So that's where the food money stands now and what's appearing on the kitchen table this week here at Chez Sluggy.
What's getting fixed and served at your house this week?
