To-Do List....September 2023

Here's what was on the list to get done in September.......

*  Pay Bills  DONE  Always the #1 thing I do every month no matter what.

*  Go to in-person DR appointments  DONE  Had an appointment with the PCP's nurse to have an EKG and blood work done, another blood work appointment for the Neurologist and a consult and 4 cardiac tests with a cardiologist in September.

*  Submit all Pre-Op test results to Surgeon  DONE  We had a last minute situation come up due to my now ex-PCP.  Instead of conducting a cardiac clearance which was needed for the surgery she had her nurse do an unacceptable EKG.  I'm not blaming anyone, but it didn't give a acceptable read out/tracing so we had to scramble to find a cardiologist who could squeeze me in for a consult and then a stress test and echo.  He also did a pet scan of my heart.  I passed with flying colors. 8-)

*  Clean and Organize Stuff in House  IN PROGRESS  We are still arranging stuff, moving stuff around here trying to make this house work for us.

*  Buy Stuff for House  DONE  Mostly this has involved buying kitchen counter tops, end splashes and some other back splash things(you can tell I am well verse in the contractor language here).  Hubs has been picking up drips and drabs and we are still waiting to hear back when the handyman is going to start work on this all.  In the meantime, our dishwasher died and rather than using the home warranty that is going to run out the end of October(and pay a $100 deductible charge)we'll just get a new appliance once the counter top work is completed, whenever that turns out to be.  In the meantime, we'll be hand washing the dishes.

*  Clean out Inserts/Coupon Envie  DONE  Not really much to do here each month anymore as I no longer print coupons and rarely get any coupon inserts.  The "game" has changed and I'll be removing this item from my To-Do List going forward.

*  Edit More Photos  DONE  I slowed down the rate of photo editing in September.  I still have photos from older trips that need editing but I've just been reoccupied with other things.  After the knee surgery I suppose I'll do more of this since I won't be as mobile for awhile.

*  Post About Old Trips  DONE  I posted 4 installments from our Western Trip in 2017 in September.  I've still got a little less than half of that trip to blog about.  And then all the other trips since then.  Yep, that will keep me busy for awhile. lol

*  Work on Genealogy  DONE  Did a few things, nothing big and then worked on a post or two but didn't finish anything.

*  Move Video Files onto New Computer  FAIL  This was not a priority in September and just fell to the bottom of the pile.  I'll get it done....some day. ;-)

Did you have a To-Do List in September?
Did you get stuff done on your list?

September To-Do List

Here is how September's To-Do List turned out....

* Pay Bills  DONE  We got all the bills paid for Sept.  So many bills, soooo many bills....*Sluggy buries her head in her hands*

* Pack & Move  DONE  It was painful and long but we got it done.  3 days to drive here.

*Read 1 Book  FAIL  Is it any wonder why I didn't do this this month? lol

* Hold Giveaway  FAIL  No Giveaway in September and they are suspended until some unknown date.

* Mail Giveaway  FAIL Ditto

* Clean out Inserts/Coupon Envie  DONE  Well this chore has become easy as I haven't gotten a newspaper/coupon insert since August and I have very few coupons left.

* Edit more Old Photos  DONE  I almost caught on a photo editing until I went to Florida earlier in October. lol

* Post about Old Trips  FAIL  With the move I've done very little of anything but pack boxes, drive and survive at my daughter's house. 8-)

* Work on Genealogy  FAIL  Nope, see above.

* Arrange for moving POD and Dumpster rental  DONE  Dumpster came, was filled and left.  POD came, was filled and left.  Pods didn't hold it all so we had to rent a storage unit too which Hubs has to go back and bring that all down here.  Imagine if we hadn't gotten rid of a dumpster worth and about 12 car loads full of stuff to charity?  Geez

* Spend Bonus Cash  DONE  I spent it all down.  Got a few things we needed like dog food and snacks for the move.  I bought stuff for 2 employees I liked as well to use it all up.  Gonna miss Rite-Aid and my friends there. 8-(((

* Eat Down the Freezer/Pantry  DONE  We ate down as much as we could.  Anything we couldn't fit in two tubs(non-perishable stuff)was given away to family and friends.  We did have to throw a bit out as well.  Sigh.....

* Pack for the Move  DONE  Somehow it all got packed up with help from 2 of our adult kids.  We left some appliances(stove, fridge, dishwasher, washer, dryer, lawnmower, chest freezer, smoker)for whomever buys the house along with extra flooring material, ice melt, snow shovels, etc.

* Power Wash House and Porch  DONE  Younger son came and helped out with this.  The outside looked sparkly.  Hubs also did a final seal on the back deck.

* Put House on the Market  DONE  We signed the contract,  the agent brought in a cleaning crew to spiffy up the interior and the sign went up in the front yard before we got to Louisiana.

* Move  DONE  Yep we hauled ass outta PA September 12th and arrived here late on the 14th.  Now we wait for the house to sell.

While some To-Do List items fell by the wayside(cuz they weren't important or time sensitive right now)a lot got done(well it HAD TO get done!).  Moving halfway across the country is difficult even when things go right.  We've still got possessions in PA but by this time next week they will all be here in LA.  We donated or threw out what we didn't love and what would cost more to move than to replace once we landed somewhere here.

Do I ever want to do this again?  That would be a definite NO!  I'd rather slit my wrists actually.  I'll live here until it's time to haul my dead carcass off.  If you'd have told me I'd celebrate my 40th Wedding Anniversary by packing up my life and hauling it 1,431 miles I'd have said you need your head examined.  Moving puts a strain on finances and relationships in even the best marriages. 8-)

Can I just say that I am GLAD this phase is over?? ;-)

Have you ever pulled up stakes and moved your life a long distance?  What was your experience like?

To-Do List....September Update

Let's see how we did with September's To-Do List..........

SEPTEMBER

* Pay Bills  DONE  Paid in full

* Read 1, 2 Books  HALF DONE  I was on course to finish both books but I forgot to bring book #2 on the trip so didn't quite finish that one.

The book I did finish was this one........

I read Ms. Kidd's "The Secret Life of Bees" last summer and liked it so when I saw this book at Ollie's I picked it up.  It is based on the life of Sarah Moore Grimké though not a straight up biography.  Ms. Kidd added a character(also based on fact but largely fictionalized)to build her tale.
The book begins on Sarah's 11th birthday and she is given a slave of her own age as a gift.  This triggers something in Sarah and opens her eyes to the society and culture around her in Charleston, South Carolina of that time and her own sense of justice and morality.  The book then follows the intertwined lives of Sarah and her slave, Hetty, as well as Hetty's mother, as they grow and live in the years leading up to the War Between the States and beyond.

I felt a kinship to Sarah, as I too grew up in the South, not in the 1800's but in the 1960's, where I saw much injustice and inequality myself, in the society and in my own family.  I felt out of place and time among my family and those around me.
I had a similar experience as Sarah, on my own 10th birthday, when I was not allowed by my parents to invite a classmate of mine to my birthday party, because she was black.  This triggered in me, like Sarah's birthday experience did in her, a consciousness and dissonance of the world around me.

I give this book 3 stars and it's worth a look.

* Clean House  DONE  While Kim may not agree with this we did get a LOT of cleaning done in the house. ;-)

* Move Some $  FAIL  I am still waiting on Hubs to sign off on moving some $. sigh

* Start Organizing Items to Sell  DONE  I've got items in tubs in the den and living room, awaiting weighing and then listing.  I still need to go through the diaper packs I have left and list those in the local site.  I'll go live with listings later in October.

* Purge Q Inserts  DONE  Got the coupon inserts whittled down to what hasn't expired yet.  Go me! ;-)  I also purged my coupon pencil case while on the trip.

* Get Rid of Landline  FAIL  Hubs doesn't feel comfortable yet with ditching the landline.  I told him to at least get rid of the long distance component but he's not done anything yet. sigh.

* Hold Giveaway  DONE  Not only did I hold 1 Giveaway but I threw caution to the wind and held TWO Giveaways in September.  Just call me a wild and crazy slug......

* Mail Giveaway  DONE  Everything got mailed and received while I was away. rah.

* Put Garden to Bed  FAIL  I got most of the garden cleaned up but ran out of time before we left for New England.  I figured I'd come home to everything still out there being dead and such but it's been unusually warm here while we were away(and still now that I am back)and some plants are still hanging in there(I've even got two teeny tiny Japanese eggplants growing again!).  The garden will definitely get finished up and put to bed in October.

* Finish Trip Plans  DONE  One last minute motel changed but all the plans got finished and mostly came to fruition.

* Pack for Trip  DONE  I forgot 2 things(1 meds, 1 book)but other than that the packing was great.  Too bad we didn't have room in the car for more Diet Coke and water bottles.  8-)))

* Go on Trip  DONE  We survived 10 days with Kim(just barely). hehehe

Too bad this harpoon cannon wasn't loaded or I could have taken Kim out before she beat me at finding change on the ground during this trip.  Arrrrrgh!

How did you do on your September goals?
