Here are the frugal wins for this past week....
* I love finding marked down foods at Kroger(this really doesn't happen at Walmart). There was a digital coupon for $1.99 strawberries this past week so I bought the limit of 5 lbs. Some marked down broccoli, green beans and air fryer Brussels Sprouts were procured as well. I also bought a few things to donate for Bingo prizes at my Group Therapy that also had Ibotta rebates for them
.
* We had to buy 2 pairs of curtains as I am not leaving my curtains in those rooms. We went to Ollie's and I picked up two different sets of curtains. One was a Pioneer Woman brand(I don't care her show but I liked these curtains anyway. The package said there was one panel inside so I bought two packs.
Come to find out that there were TWO panels in a packaged so each pack covered one window.
Since I opened the second pack I now have a set for myself. I had debated in the store about buying a set to take to PA but decided against it. Turns out I didn't need to! 8-)
And they were only $4.99 a set!* We used up some more pantry items as well. The less we have to move the better. We went through the pantry last weekend and Hubs took a large donation to the food bank.
* Goodwill also got a large donation of goods we don't need any longer and don't use. I think there will be one more trip to Goodwill plus they will send a truck to pick up some furniture next week.
* I sold some toiletries locally finally. You would thing with the financial uncertainly lately and with people getting tax refunds they'd jump at the chance to buy new toiletries, etc. for pennies on the dollar.
People here are so flaky and won't commit. I didn't have this problem up in PA.
* We are going to have stuff left in the freezer still once we are ready to bug out as I did 't stop buying frozen foods soon enough. Hubs arranged to have a neighbor who has helped us out before take what we don't eat. He's got 5 freezers and 2 are empty.(He hunts and fishes.) What will be left won't even fill 1 of those freezers but I am happy to give him what we can't eat. I'll have 7 packs of butter so come and get it Kim and Kay! lolz
This neighbor is also going to mow the grass for us until the house sells. This is the least I can do for him and his wife.
* It's been quite warm here so the heat has been off most days. We had to put the a/c on some days for a time. This house is very well insulated and keeps in the heat or a/c.
* Entertainment last week was some tv shows, You Tube, sitting on the deck reading when the pollen isn't so high. I've also been sorting through items and packing.....don't know if that is "fun" but if it gets me out of here, I'll call it fun! 8-)))
* I found money!
I found .01¢ at Kroger on Friday.
I found 3 pennies in Walmart on the way out of the store on Sunday.

I found a quarter in the parking lot at a dr.'s office on Thursday when I went to meet someone locally to sell some toiletries.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods? Let's hear all about them!
Sluggy
Yay!! You are getting so close to a better living situation!!
ReplyDeleteMoving is so tiring, but it will be worth it to be in a happier place.
ReplyDeleteAre you moving back to PA? I was not sure where you were moving too yet. Yum on the strawberries! We would have those eaten in no time flat. Bailey can eat a pound by herself in one sitting. I picked up some today to go with dinner tonight. That is very nice of you to give your neighbor the freezer food in exchange for mowing, which is a real barter. I love that!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are close to escaping that place. PA will be better for you.
ReplyDeleteI tried Amazon Haul and found $50 Columbia shorts for $10. Sizes and colors are limited but some items are a good deal. There’s also a bunch of junk listed so it takes some searching. Dave found cheap Under Armor shirts but they only had XS and XXL.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really odd coincidence. I am quite irregular in reading blogs, so I have not checked in for some time, but last night I found myself remembering a blog you had written some months ago. You said you had moved to your current location because your daughter said she was thinking seriously of having a baby and she wanted you nearby for help. But after you moved, the whole idea of their baby became quite uncertain, you didn't see them very often, you didn't like the area and you were unhappy with your healthcare providers. All of us who responded urged you to move back, but I never heard any more about it.
ReplyDeleteToday I thought I would check in, and lo and behold, you are moving back to Pennsylvania. I'm quite glad to hear it. This is only my own experience, of course, but all of my efforts to help my grown children had not been one bit appreciated and have mostly come back to bite me in the ***. I know you'll be happy with the move, and I will try to check in more often.
