  1. I have to have cornbread dressing and giblet gravy. I make both from scratch and MUST have diced boiled eggs in my gravy. If I go somewhere, there is never boiled eggs in the gravy.

Since my parents are dead and children all 1000+ miles in three different directions, I did go to a friend's house in Birmingham. Lately, it has been just me here alone.

  2. I used to cook a big dinner every year and have folks over, but since I started working at a hospital, I've worked Thanksgiving day. This year, I'm doing a double so a coworker can have the day off.

  3. We normally have about 25 people for Thanksgiving! I do all the cooking and it nearly kills me every year! We have mostly family. Our family dynamics have changed the last couple of years and this year we will have a smaller group. Fortunately we have always had nice weather so we are able to eat outdoors. We set a long long table and eat in the afternoon (3 ish) We have a bunch of vegetarians and now people who are gluten free. I haven;t quite figured out how I am going to handle that!

  4. Well, our Thanksgiving is not always a given. I think we've skipped it here and there, though who can say no to a big meal. To be fair 1) we're not too close of a family, and together time is usually disastrous, 2) we didnt grow up with Thanksgiving and think the origins are as absurd as the islands celebrating Colombus day. But I digress!

When we do get around for a Thanksgiving dinner, we have chicken (because we cant cook turkey, it's too big, bulky, dry, and is usually left for the pets). We make mini empanadas, big meatballs, rice and pigeon peas, spaghetti and potato salad. That's the same thing we do for Christmas/New Year's, so we tried to adapt it.

  5. I host my parents, sister and her family, my grown children and any friend who has nowhere else to go. I put two long tables together so everyone is at one table. Everyone brings something, but I cook the turkey and DH's must-have: green bean casserole. I do some sides and everyone else fills in. Desserts vary, but there is always a big pan of Southern Banana Pudding. I love Thanksgiving!

  6. Since my CHF diagnoses and AVR surgery several years ago I go to the cardiac unit of a local hospital and visit with patients who have no family or friends that visit. Hospital Food never tasted so good on that day.

  7. As I have posted before, we have quite the crowd and we cook for days. Everything in our house is over the top now that I think of it. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I was so isolated as a kid. Well this went from an entry to a giveaway to a therapy session. Hmmmm, I do have issues.

  8. Ours is changing this year since everyone is bringing something(23 people since my cousin is throwing a tantrum). It is the one holiday that every family member is together so it means a lot to us. Guess I should start cleaning soon

  12. This year it will be me, huuby and three kids. I normally fix a ham, potato casserole, sweet potato casserole, green beans, deviled eggs, homemade macaroni and cheese, and rolls. We always put our Christmas tree up the day before Thanksgiving.
