This Week on the Dining Table...Sept. 15 to Sept.21

I escaped from the hospital yesterday.  I would have shown you a photo of some of my hospital food but I didn't want to depress everyone(like it depressed me).

Forward to the meal planning!
This is what was planned for last week...........
1. Sunday--No Clue
2. Monday--No Clue
3. Tuesday--No Clue
4. Wednesday--No Clue
5. Thursday--No Clue
6. Friday--No Clue
7. Saturday--No Clue

Frankly, I was in the hands of the Dietary/Kitchen staff at the Rehab Hospital.  What was on the menu they were suppose to give me almost never matched what showed up on my dinner slip or the actual food on my tray.

And here's what actually happened....
1. Sunday--Meatloaf, PEAS and Carrots, Mac & Cheese, Sugar-Free Cake(I ate the Meatloaf and  picked out the Carrots)
2. Monday--baked Chicken with some sort of BBQ glaze on it, a pile of Crowder Pea with 4 pieces of Green Beans in them, a Sweet Potato(I ate 1 piece of Chicken, the 4 Green Beans pieces and the Sweet Potato)
3. Tuesday--Salmon, Grilled Asparagus, a big pile of Rice Pilaf, 3/4 of an Orange(I ate the Salmon and the Asparagus)
4. Wednesday--Beef Pot Roast, steamed Carrots, Mashed Cauliflower with Gravy, sugar-free "red flavor" fake Jello(I picked out the pieces of Beef and ate the carrots too)
5. Thursday--I asked for a Baked Sweet Potato but they gave me a reg. Baked Potato and a pile of leftover mixed Veggies(Hubs brought me something to eat but I don't remember what)
6. Friday--Chicken Pot Pie chalk full of carrots and PEAS!, mushy Broccoli(I ate muffalleta Pizza Hubs brought me and the Broccoli)
7. Saturday--what they called Chicken Fajita(it was not), Refried Beans(it was not) and Corn(I ate a Chik-fil-A Sandwich and a side Salad)

When I left Sunday they kept telling to leave a review but honestly, I doubt they want a review of their food service. ;-)

What got taken out of the freezer last week....
* some Burritos
* Salmon
Hubs finished up lots of already cooked foods in the fridge last week.

What got put into the freezer last week....
* a 2 lb bag of Shrimp
* 5 lb. of Butter the previous week

The grocery spending this month until today is $107.11

Total shopping comes to $107.11 for September.  There are 14 shopping days left in September.

Rebate monies earned this month so far.....
I've earned $60.10 on Ibotta in September
I've earned $0 on Shopmium in September
I've earned $8.00 on Kroger Cash Back in September
I've earned $0 on TaDa in September.
I've earned $2.75 on Checkout51 in September.
I've earned $5.00 on Aisle, etc. in September. (Haven't gotten my Nature Valley rebate yet from June.)
I've earned 2,060 points on Fetch from food shopping in September
I've earned 4 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in September($)
I've earned 170 Points on My Points in September
I've earned 688 from food shopping on Swag Bucks in September.($6.88)

That is $67.85 in rebates(not counting Shop Kick/Fetch/MyPoints/KCB/Alexa/Swag Bucks/The Insiders)on $107.11 of grocery spending so in reality it's $39.26 in food spending after the rebate apps I count. I now separate out the Food Bank donations and don't count those in the grocery spending(but I do count any rebates on those items).

My savings percentage for the last 2 weeks was 46.25% and the monthly savings total for September comes in at 46.25% spent.

Leftovers going into this week...Hubs has something leftover in the fridge but I can't see it. lol  I think it's Chili.

Here is this week's food plan.....
1. Sunday--Chicken Tenders, leftover Teriyaki Green Beans, Baked Sweet Potato Fries
2. Monday--Shrimp, Broccoli, Cole Slaw
3. Tuesday--Cheese Burgers, Sweet Potato
4. Wednesday--Salmon, Spinach Souffle
5. Thursday--Pork Tenderloin, Veg TBD
6. Friday--Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any deals on food at your stores this week?

  1. Thawing to cook is a pork roast, bscb, and burgers. Brussel sprouts, zucchini, and other stuff.

    So, you survived the food. How are you doing otherwise?

  2. carrots have more sugar than peas so I am surprised of them being served... well not really. If you look to what most senior meals on wheels and such the suger food is on the high side.

  4. Tuesdays meal sounds good! (Salmon, asparagus, rice pilaf and orange). Our family was low carb, sugar free and mostly keto during the time DH was in the hospital for a few days after surgery, and they were serving such UNHEALTHY foods it was crazy. Everything was sugar sugar sugar and starch, starch and carbs. I was getting him sugar free, high protein, non-starchy, healthy food food instead - and then I got a nasty call to his room from the hospital 'nutritionist' (all 25 year old just graduated from college her proud little self) asking me why he wasn't eating and he must eat. Oh he IS but not that sugary, starchy crap you are serving him. LOL.

  7. I don't know about these hospital nutritionists and dietary specialists. They don't seem to know the basics about food. Hospital food is full of chemicals, sugar, salt and carbs. I'm glad you're out and I hope you're doing well.

  8. Even the description of the food was depressing...blech! Now that you have escaped the rehab from hell I hope you are doing better on your own turf.
