Weis Deals this Week...11/12-11/18 What is Worth Buying?

I know my blog hasn't been a place to come for coupon match-ups for deals but I thought I'd give it a shot with Weis Store Ads. There are plenty of blogs that do the major chains and the national ones but I can't find many folks doing the small chains & regional stores like Weis.

Doing Store/Coupon match-ups is hard work(now I know why!lol)so if you regularly have a blog source to find out the deals where you shop, please take a minute to send that blogger a note of appreciation for all they do.  I am sure they would welcome it.

I don't have a local national chain grocery store, or even a Super Target or Super KMart.  I've got Walmart(which I only shop at rarely), the local independent stores(that deal reporting won't do anybody any good unless they live within 20 miles of here) and I've got Weis, our region chain.  I figure there are some other Weis shoppers reading this blog out there in need of Deal Ideas, so here we go! 8-)

Here are the Deals I see in the current Weis/Mr. Z's Sales Flyer for 11/12-11/118.  This list is NOT all the deals, just the ones I thought were worth taking advantage of this week.  If you see other deals that are worth spending your hard-earned CASH on, leave a comment and let us all know!

WEIS DEALS FOR 11/12-11/18

MEATS

*Weis Frozen Turkeys  .49lb.
Unless you have another chain offering free turkeys w/a min. purchase requirement or selling lower(or can find a Walmart with the .40lb. birds)this is the best deal on turkeys .
*Top Round Roasts or London Broil Steaks  BOGO (reg. price $5.29)
Personally, I try not to pay over $2lb. for meat, but at $2.65lb., this can be a pretty good deal if you can find 2 packages that are marked the same price/same weight.

 DAIRY/REFRIGERATED

*Pillsbury Grands Biscuits 3/$5($1.66 ea.)
There are numerous Grands Coupons out there from the Sunday inserts in the last 2 months so you can get these for about $1 a roll.  There are online printed coupons sources too like coupons.com and the Pillsbury website.
*Pillsbury Cinnamon or Crescent Rolls 2/$3 ($1.50 ea.)
Ditto
*Breakstone Sour Cream $1.29
Not a tremendous deal, but my Weis has a Blinkie Machine in the aisle with $.55/1 Coupons for this so $.74 a container which is Great!
*Reddi-Wip $2.00
Online Coupon Here for $.50/1, if your Weis doubles & takes IP Qs, makes this $1.00 a bottle.

Assorted coupons both from inserts and online available to make this about $1 a bag.

*Gold Medal Flour $2
PURCHASE Any FIVE of these items in a Single Transaction and you get $2.00 OFF YOUR SHOPPING ORDER.
There are .50/1 Qs from the Sunday inserts a week or so ago for the BC Frosting.
DEAL IDEA--Purchase 4 Frostings ($6) & 1 Cake Mix($1)for $7.  Use 4 x $.50/1 BC Frosting Qs(doubled makes this $4 off), for a total of $3.  Weis deducts $2.00 off your order for a grand total of $1.00 for all 5 products!  GREAT DEAL if you need Cake Mix/Frosting.  If you'd rather have 1 Flour instead of the Cake Mix, your grand total will be $2(unless you have the IP Q for the GM Flour left-no longer available to print), then your total is still $1 for all 5.

*Diamond Nuts(Shelled Walnuts) $3.99
Sunday insert Q $3/2 Diamond Nuts in last week's paper.  Buy 2 for $7.98-$3Q=$4.98 for 2lbs. of shelled Walnuts. GREAT PRICE!

*Carnation Evaporated Milk $1.00
Sunday insert Q $.50/2, doubled by Weis makes the CEM $.50 a can.  This product is indispensable at the Holidays for Pumpkin Pie and a good thing to have on your shelf to have a milk product when you are out of fresh.

*Pillsbury Pie Crust  $2.00
Again, my Weis has a Blinkie Machine with $1/2Qs(won't double) making them $1.50 per box of 2 crusts.  There is also an IP Q for $.50/1 on coupons.com.

*ARGO CORNSTARCH $1.29
Sunday inserts from 11/8 had $.40/1 Q, doubled at Weis makes this price $.49 a container.

CEREAL/GRAINS

*Chex Cereals 3/$4.50 MUST BUY 3
Sunday insert from Oct.(SS)had $1/2 Chex Cereal Q.  There is also an IP Q (same amount)on coupons.com.  Buy 3, use 1 coupon and your total is $3.50 for 3, makes it $1.17 per box.  Not bad.

*Kellogg's Cereals(Corn Flakes/Raisin Bran/Raisin Bran Crunch/Raisin Brand Extra!/Frosted Mini-Wheats)2/$5.00($2.50 ea.)
BEST DEAL-The Corn Flakes.  Use the $1/1 Q from last Sunday's insert and get it for $1.50 box.

Sunday inserts last week has $1/2 Qs.  Buy 2 and pay $3.34-$1Q=$2.34 for 2 boxes, or $1.17 each.
Not bad for something with wild rice in it.
IF you purchase $15 of Uncle Ben's by Sunday 11/15, you can send in for the $5 REBATE Here .
9 Boxes=$15-4x$1/2 Qs=$11 + $5 Rebate=$6.00 for 9 boxes of rice, or $.66 a box.

*RICE SELECT RICE MIXES $5.99
Ok, these are NOT cheap!  But they are good and good for you and they hardly EVER go on sale.  Plus there is a Q Here for $2/1.  Get one of these 36oz. containers for $3.99!  great buy

*Heinz Gravy $1
Some areas received a $1/2 Sausage Gravy Q in the 11/1 inserts, which would make this flavor of gravy $.50 a jar when you buy 2.  There is a IP Q Here for $1/3, which would make the price $.67 ea. when you buy 3.

*Bic Comfort 3 Disposable Razors $2.99
10/18 SS insert has a $2/1 Bic Razor that includes Comfort 3 type, making the package of razors $.99 each.

REMEMBER--Base your amount spent on the SHELF PRICE, NOT THE SALE PRICE.
There are Unilever Coupons slated to be in this Sunday's inserts, so some of these products could make for a nice LOW PRICED DEAL!  After I see which Qs we get, I'll post a few scenarios for this Catalina Promotion.

*GIFT CARDS
Purchase $100 in any combination of Gift Cards and receive a $3.00 OYNO Catalina Coupon
Purchase $150, receive a $4.50 OYNO Catalina Coupon
Purchase $200, receive a $6.00 OYNO Catalina Coupon
IF you are planning on purchasing Gift Cards for anyone this year take advantage of this deal!
Personally, I wouldn't do this deal unless I was going to buy gift cards anyway.  But you might as well buy them at Weis and get something for doing so, right?lol
I had a great plan to go ahead and buy Weis Gift Cards before shopping for groceries there and then using them to pay for my purchases.  BUT WEIS Gift Cards do NOT qualify for the Cat Coupon Deal.

However, if you plan on making a purchase at a store that Weis offers gift cards for, buy the Gift Card and then use it to pay at the store instead of using cash.  That's what I'll be doing next week when I take my daughter out to buy some clothes....we'll pick up a gift card for whichever store she wants to make the purchase from and use that instead of cash and I'll get a $OYNO Cat to use next week on groceries.
FREE MONEY for something you are going to do anyway is ALWAYS a good deal!

The RETURN of Adventures in ACMELAND

So the lure of almost FREE FOOD got the better of me and I headed back to Acme on Wednesday.  It was a blessing really, having a "quest" like this to concentrate my energies on, as it helped me get through a couple of the roughest, physically painful days of my life.  When you are in pain, having something to take your mind off it is a help in getting through it.   Not being able to eat is a whole other issue though....

Anyway, the weather was nice and I enjoy having time alone in the car.  This trip I actually went to all 3 Acmes I had planned on visiting.  I had planned on going to the closest one, then hitting each of the other two stores, then backtracking and hitting store #2 again, as well as store #1 again, before heading home.  Well, I ended up hitting store #1, then store #3, then to store #2 and then home.  I had planned to go back to store #1 to finish off my shopping, but I got lost going between store #3 & #2 and ended up traveling in a giant circle so I lost a bit of time between that and the late afternoon rush hour traffic.  Also, when I finally arrived at store #2, I found that it was a fantastic, new, HUGH! Acme with hardly any customers and stocked on EVERYTHING and with FRIENDLY CASHIERS and MANAGEMENT who didn't have a problem with me going through the register oodles of times and using as many coupons and Catalinas as I dare well pleased!
Ahhhhhh.....Deal Shopping Heaven. ;-)

So, I just ended up hitting each Acme 1 time(many transactions though).
There were a couple of "glitches" on this trip.  At Store #1 doing my first double stack transaction(Buy$60/Get$30) my Catalinas printed out but they were BLANK!  Seems no one had cleaned the printer heads on the Cat machine in some time so nothing printed out.  The manager had the cashier hit some button on the Cat machine and then RERING every item in the order.
Ugh.
So again, the machine made the whirring noise to generate Cats but nothing printed on the papers!
So the Manager hauled all my bags over to the CSDesk and rang everything up a third time.
Double Ugh.
Finally, the Cats printed out...3 x $10 ones.  Now I was set to do double stack transactions the rest of the day.
That was until my second double transaction at Acme store #3, when only 3 x $5 Cats printed out.  I put a call into Catalina and there was a glitch with 1 item I bought(it didn't register in the system), so they are sending me my missing $15 in Cats.  Hey, I am NOT getting upset about this....if they show up they show up...if not, fine.  I more than got my monies worth on this deal without them.
But after the $15 didn't print, I was forced to do single transactions for the rest of the evening.  More walking out to the car and back in the store, so it took longer to finish up.

So enough of my rambling on.  I spent Thursday lugging everything out of my car, taking pictures and rebagging it all or wedging a few things into my stockpile.  Here are the photos of Wednesday's loot.

FINAL NUMBERS for This Shop
I did 13 Transactions(9 x $30 shops and 4 x $60 shops, so 17 x $30 shops).  I earned 17 x $15 in Cats=$255 in Cats. I spent $225 of those Cats and have $30 leftover.(One set of $15 in Cats didn't print and Catalina will be mailing those to me.)

Doing a Catalina Deal 101...My trip to Weis on 11/11

Before heading off to Acmeland on Wednesday, I made a quick run to Weis before the week's Catalina Deals ended.  Weis had a rare week with 4, Count 'Em 4, Catalinas going so I thought I'd get some goodies for cheap.

I find that if the Catalina Deal gives you a choice of a lower or higher "reward"(IE-a choice between Spend $15/Get $5 or Spend $25/Get $10), it's usually better to shoot for the higher value Cat.

There are THREE Reasons why you save so much money on a Catalina Deal.

1--The purchases are usually calculated off of the regular shelf price of items, not the sale price.
If the items are on sale you don't have to actually "spend" $20 to buy $20 worth of products to get your reward.  I hear there are Cat Deals that aren't calculated off of the shelf price, but I personally don't know a grocery store that runs them that way.

2--Add in using Internet Printed(IP Q) or Manufacturer's Coupons(Manu Q) on the items purchased, and your total goes even lower.  Combining sale prices with coupon usage is a tried and true way to bring down the cost of purchasing your groceries.  But when you factor in #3....

3--When you buy your products, you get a "reward" in the form of a $X Off Your Next Order(OYNO) Coupon.  These OYNO Coupons are good for a set time frame(usually 2 weeks like a Wags RR)and are good only at that Store chain(though some stores do accept Cats generated at a different store).

So the first time you do a Catalina Deal, your OOP will be a bit higher, unless you already have a OYNO Cat Coupon in hand to use to pay(along with your coupons) and bring your OOP down to rock bottom.
After you do your 1st Cat Deal, you can then take that OYNO Cat and add it to the sale price & IP or Manu Qs you use to get the second & third & fourth & fifth, etc. sets of the same products for rock bottom prices.  Or take your Cat and combine with Qs and sales prices to get other products that generate an OYNO Cat too.

It's always good to work out a scenario of what you intend to buy before you get to the store.  You must know the regular Shelf Price however before you can calculate a scenario.  Keeping a price book of your grocery stores' prices would be a big help when working out your scenarios.  The point is to get as close to the dollar amount(shelf price total) you need to buy to generate the OYNO Cat.  Sometimes scenarios fall apart due to changes in prices at the store or the store is out of a product and you have to substitute a different product, so you need to be able to think on your feet.  Unless you are the Rainman, it would behoove you to BRING A CALCULATOR TO THE STORE when you shop!  Once you get into the store, with the bad canned music and muzak ads blaring in your ears, the distraction of other shoppers, adding numbers up in your head is too much work.  It's so easy to miss your target shelf price total and go through all that work and get NO Catalina.  But if you have your scenarios and your calculator you can make the shopping much easier.

The 1st Catalina Deal I did involved Pillsbury/Crisco items.  Buy $12/Get $3 OYNO Cat or Buy $20/Get $7 OYNO Cat.
So here is what I bought....

4 x Crisco Oil--Shelf price $4.29=$17.16   Sale price $3.00=$12.00
2 x Quick Bread Mix--Shelf price $2.29=$4.58   Sale price  3/$5=$3.34
                 Total--Shelf price  $21.74         Sale price  $15.34
You will notice that I have saved $6.40 right off the bat.  That's the difference between the Shelf and Sale prices.

Then add on the coupons....
Coupons used
4 x Crisco Oil $1/1 ManuQ=$4.00
1 x Quick Bread Mix $1/2 ManuQ=$1.00
Coupon Total=$5.00

$15.34-$5.00=$10.34
I have now saved $11.40 on the shelf price.

I had a $7 OYNO Cat for a Cat Deal last week I used...
$10.34-$7.00=$3.34 OOP

I have now saved $18.40 off the original retail price on these products.

I paid $3.34 CASH for all 6 items(shelf value of $21.74) and received a new $7 OYNO Cat for buying them.
And now I can do this deal over and over again, as long as I have enough coupons, and pay $3.34 each time and get enough Oil and Bread Mix to fill a bathtub and bathe in it!

There was another Cat Deal involving Kellogg's/Keebler and Kashi--Buy $12/Get $3 or Buy $20/Get $7.
So I took that $7 CAT and bought this....(dealing with the Cat items only first)....

1 x Kashi Cereal--Shelf price=$3.89    Sale price=$3.00
2 x Crispix Cereal--Shelf price $3.99=$7.98   Sale price $2.00=$4.00
1 x Frosted Flakes--Shelf price=$3.79    Sale price=$2.00
1 x Keebler Crackers--Shelf price=$3.99   Sale price=$2.50
1 x RK Treats--Shelf price=$2.69    Sale price=$2.50

The Cat portion...
Total--Shelf price $22.34   Sale price  $14.00

Coupons used
1 x Kashi $1.50/1 home mailer ManuQ=$1.50
2 x Kellogg's Cereal $1/1 ManuQ=$2.00
1 x Frosted Flakes $1/1 Peelie ManuQ=$1.00
1 x Any Cracker $1.50/1 StoreQ=$1.50
Coupon Total=$6.00

$14.00-$6.00=$8.00
Use $7 OYNO Cat I received on last order...
$8.00-$7.00=$1 OOP

Add in the NON-CAT ITEMS...
2 x Fresh Pet Dog Food--Shelf price $2.19=$4.38  Sale price $1.85=$3.70
1 x Cheezits--Shelf price=$4.10 Sale price=$2.99
 Total Shelf price=$8.48  Sale price=$6.69

Coupons Used
2 x Fresh Pet FREE Item ManuQ=$3.70
1 x Buy 2 Crispix/Get $2.50 off Cheezits PeelieQ on box of Crispix I bought=$2.50
Coupon total=$6.20

$6.69-$6.20=$.49
So the Dog Food was free and the $2.99 Cheezits cost me another $.49, bringing my OOP total to $1.49 & I received another $7 OYNO Cat.

But noooo.  Seems someone who worked at the store did something to the computer system and changed the sale prices on the cereals back to regular shelf price 1 day before the sale ended.  My total was something crazy like $7 something.  I paid and stomped right over to the Customer Service Desk to get a price adjustment.  Fortunately, Weis has a policy that if an item scans incorrect, you get the first one of the item FREE and the difference between shelf and sale price on each additional same item.  She tried to give me 1 box FREE and the difference for the other 3 boxes but the way the policy is worded, I was eligible for 3 FREE boxes & 1 price difference adjustment because it was 3 different cereals.
So my 2nd Transaction, after getting $13.26 back, turned from $1.49 OOP into a $11.76 Profit!

The store PAID ME $11.76 for all 9 items and received a new $7 OYNO Cat for buying them.

8-))

Then I did Transaction #1 again...

 Blah, blah, blah.
I paid $3.34 OOP for all 6 and received another $7 OYNO Cat Coupon.

To finish off my trip I decided to get some Hershey's Baking products.  I paid ALOT but the Hershey's chips are so worth it.  This Deal was Buy $12/Get $3 or Buy $20/Get $6....stingier than the $7 Cal Deals....

1 x Hershey's Syrup--Shelf price $2.19    Sale price=$1.79
2 x Hershey's Cocoa--Shelf price $3.29=$6.58    Sale price $2.50=$5.00
4 x Hershey's Baking Chips--Shelf price $2.59=$10.36  Sale price $2.00=$8.00
1 x Hershey's XL Candy Bar--Shelf price $1.50   Sale price $1.25
                       Total--Shelf price  $20.63         Sale price  $16.04

Coupons Used
1 x Buy 4 Baking Chips/Get Syrup FREE Tearpad Q=$1.79
Coupon Total=$1.79

$16.04-$1.79=$14.25
Used the $7 OYNO Cat from the Pillsbury/Crisco transaction....
$14.25-$7.00=$7.25
I also had a $2.50 OYNO Cat left from the Cat Deal when the store paid me to buy all those Fruit Snacks 2 weeks ago that I used...
$7.25-$2.50=$4.75 OOP

I paid $4.75 CASH for all 8 items and received a new $6 OYNO Cat for buying them.

If the store hadn't screwed up and had to make good on their pricing policy, I would have paid $12.92 total for all 29 items(worth $91.54) and had a $6 Cat to roll into new Cat Deals within the next 2 weeks. This would have been a Savings of 86% before the $6 Cat Coupon.

But I was refunded $13.26 in Cash, so technically I was paid .33¢ OOP to take all this home and the Savings was 100%! lolol

And one more thing....
I found a Mail-In offer in the store for a Hershey's Baking Calendar.  Buy 4 Baking Chips and send in the form and Hershey's sends you a Calendar with Recipes and Coupons for Hershey's products.
This may lead to more chocolate in my life down the road....and that, my friends, can never be a bad thing.

I hope this wasn't too confusing to follow for the readers who are new to 'extreme couponing' and helped to explain the  process of doing Catalina Deals.

And the Pain Continues.....Friday Can't Get Here Fast Enough!

Well I am STILL in AGONY with this tooth situation!
I went to my appointment on Tuesday and the dentist said the tooth in question had to come out.
I was right....Hooray!
But my dentist wouldn't/couldn't extract it.
My dentist just got out of the hospital 3 weeks ago.  He had had 2 heart attacks and is recovering from major surgery for said attacks.  He is under doctor's orders not to perform strenuous work that would involve his hands and arms.
WTF?
He's medically fragile, that I get and wouldn't want him to do anything to impede his recovery.
But he has a sole practice so there's no other dentist on staff that can pull this sucker NOW!!
What great luck I have....
The receptionist called THREE local Oral Surgeons to get me an appointment asap.  One would agree to fit me in next MONTH, one said the earliest they would see me is in TWO WEEKS.  The third one said they could squeeze me in this FRIDAY.
So I have "an appointment with doctor relief" on friday.

The dentist, who could see what pain I am in-even with popping ibuprofen and acetaminophen-would NOT prescribe me a painkiller to take until friday!  Just an antibiotic.
Can you say PISSED??!!
If I was mean-spirited I'd say he must have attended the Dr. Mengele School of Dentistry.
I know that was bad.....beg pardon.....I am in pain, that's my excuse.

It's a good thing my regular physician is a kinder soul.  Thanks to him and a cracked ribs situation a couple of years ago, I have a big bottle of Darvocet in my bathroom closet.
Thank the Lord for pharmaceuticals is all I am going to say.  8-))

These pills along with the antibiotic seems to be taking the edge off so I haven't been curled up into a ball for the last 2 days and can function somewhat.  It's a good thing right now that I have a very high tolerance for pain.  I did have #2 kid with NOT AN IOTA of Pain Meds after all and I have had teeth filled before with no Novacaine.

Of course, given the condition of my mouth I haven't eaten much solid food this week.  All in all, that's not a bad thing for my waistline.lol  There's been alot of applesauce, mashed bananas, yogurt, soup with soft chunks and I gummed some Beefaroni a couple of days ago.  I was on the road most of yesterday and the best choice for a meal at 10pm last night, while driving, that I could find was a Taco Bell cheese quesadilla.  By biting pieces off and letting them disintegrate in my mouth I was able to whip through that bad boy in.....2 hours!lol
No speed-eating records in my immediate future, huh?

Keeping busy helps me to not dwell on the pain.  So I did some major deal shopping yesterday.  Oh, I blazed a Scorched Earth Path through 1 Weis and 3 Acmes, I did!  And on Tuesday evening I hit Wags and made a rare trip to Walmart.  My car is a disaster zone AGAIN!  Today will be all about digging that out, figuring the 'grocery damage', taking pictures and writing up a post to report in to all of you.
Hmmm....Deal Shopping as a substitute for pain relief?  It has possibilities...
That should keep me busy today and not let me fantasize about taking the hubby's pliers and ripping this molar right out of my head!!
Ugh.
Off to go practice some more  "Better Living Through Chemistry"......

A side note--about one of the Oral Surgeons who wouldn't give me an appt.   My daughter needs a couple of wisdom teeth pulled, guess who one of the oral surgeons my dentist referred us to for that is?  Yep, it's old "Sorry you are in agony but I wouldn't make a half hour in my day for a MONTH to help you".
So guess who is getting a snail mailed letter from Yours Truly telling him exactly why HE won't be getting the honor and my hard-earned MONEY to extract my daughter's teeth and I'll be going to his competitor?
What goes around, comes around baby!  ;-)
