Lt. Colonel Robert "Potato Hole" Woodson, one of my 9th Great Grandfathers and Elizabeth Ferris Woodson, one of my 9th Great Grandmothers connect me to many current well known people.
I recounted a story about Robert "Potato Hole" and his brother John "Wash Tub" during the Massacre of 1622 in the Jamestown Colony. Go HERE to read that.
Robert Woodson, I have just found, connects me genetically to this man.........
It appears that my great great paternal grandmother may have been an African slave impregnated by the owner of the plantation. My paternal aunt certainly had black curly beautiful hair and I always envied her hair and complexion that didn’t burn like mine. I don’t really know that side of the family except for her and she is dead so I would have to do DNA to confirm. I hit a dead end when pursuing the genealogy on that side of the family. My mother’s side is mostly buried in the same cemetery back to the early 1840’s and that great great great grandfather was supposedly chased out of South Carolina by his daddy bc of his propensity to get drunk and raise hell. So I have not done any research past the ones in the cemetery because they were enough… lol. Apparently a love of the “shiny” ( moonshine) is how we ended up in this state. Good lord knows what I will find if I went back further in South Carolina because we are definitely Appalachian hillbillies on my momma’s side.
ReplyDeleteHe must have really made his dad mad if he had to come all the way to Bama by wagon! So no one famous in my “close” relatives. Cindy in the South
Yikes! I've got a few "winners" like that on my maternal side as they were Southerners and quite of few of those lines were early immigrants(think Jamestown). These lines all have the "Founders Effect" going on which link me with many of the Founding Fathers and Mothers of the USA.
DeleteRonald Reagan is a distant cousin of mine. We shared a grandfather way back.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend from grade school's mother dated Reagan in High School near Chicago IL. Small world.
DeleteI’ve always been told we have lineage to Miguel De Cervantes on my dad’s side of the family.
Delete-Rosa R.
Don Quixote de la Mancha!! Great book.
DeleteMy father once told me he dated back to one of the apostles. He's European, and as a child it made sense to me. I have no idea if it is true or not. As for currently, I'm related to a famous meteorologist. That explains why I'm so obsessed with weather reports. LOL!
ReplyDeleteDoes their last name rhyme with "detour"? lol
DeleteFour < A famous painter; a founder of a company; Brigham Young's right hand man; a Nazi.
ReplyDeleteI knew about the Mormon guy(I had someone high up in the LDS through my Baker line)but the Nazi would be interesting to know about. Fun fact, Prince Philip(late of England),his oldest sister was married to a Nazi and his other sister, Cecelie, also had a Nazi husband. She died at 26 on a plane crash after giving birth on the pane to a daughter.
