This Week on the Dining Table......March 11th Edition

The "Something I'll Miss Around Here" Edition.......

Hubs wanted to go over to Texas to our favorite BBQ Brisket place......

This place never disappoints.  I got my old reliable Brisket with Slaw and Sweet Potato Fries and a can of Diet DP.  Hubs got a 2 meat plate, Slaw, Fried Okra and a fountain soda.

I will have to purchase one of their t-shirts before we leave here.
It a small family owned since 1927 place in a tiny town.  Not one of those big franchised chain places which seem to be everywhere.

This is day 274 of the new "way of eating".  Down 59 lbs. since the cruise(not counting the 8 I gained on the cruise and then lost again, which would make it 67 lbs.).
Not actively trying to lose right now, just maintaining.  I plan on kicking the weight loss up again this week. ;-)

Onward to the meal planning!

Last week we spent $154.41 on grocery shopping for March.  yikes!

Total shopping comes to $345.76 for March.
There are 20 shopping days left in March but I am staying out of the store this week(promises, promises...lol).

Rebate monies earned this month so far.....
I've earned $103.00 on Ibotta in March.
I've earned $8.00 on Shopmium in March.
I've earned $0.00 on Alexa app in March.
I've earned $15.00 on Kroger Cash Back in March.
I've earned $10.22 on TaDa in March.
I've earned $0.00 on Checkout51 in March.
I've earned $0.00 on Aisle.
I've earned 11,225 points on Fetch from food shopping in March.
I've earned 771 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in March.
I've earned 0 SB from food shopping on Swag Bucks in March.

That is $121.22 in rebates(not counting the Kroger Cash Back/Shop Kick/Fetch/Alexa)on $345.76 of grocery spending so in reality it's $224.54 in food spending after the 4 rebate apps I count(the ones that give me cash back, not the ones that I turn the points into gift cards, or Alexa that gives me Amazon credit, and I count when those points are cashed in).

My savings percentage for the last week was 39.23% and the monthly savings total for March comes in at 37.37% spent so far.

Leftovers going into this week....I helping of each of Asparagus, Baked Beans, a big container of Broccoli/Cheddar Soup and lots of Roasted Veggies from Thursday night.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--Mushroom/Asparagus Risotto
2. Monday--TV Dinners
3. Tuesday--Grilled Trout, Roasted Potatoes, leftover Roasted Veggies
4  Wednesday--Teriyaki Pork Loin, Green Beans
5. Thursday--Leftovers FFY
6.  Friday--Leftover Pork and Green Beans
7. Saturday--Liver, Onions, Taters, Beets

Trout goes back onto the meal plan.  I also have some clearance baby bella mushrooms I need to use up asap.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Any deals on food at your stores this week?

    1. Not a tease, just a fact--we ARE moving out of Louisiana. The exit strategy is not in place and can't be executed yet. All will be revealed in the fullness of time.

  2. Jre Good for you! Life’s too short. I like Dr. Laura’s (on talk radio) phrase “from now until dead is this what you want?” (I don’t agree with all of her things) but that statement sticks and I ask myself it often when trying to make decisions. I’m 70, from now till dead isn’t that long. I often put others ahead if myself and I cheap out on myself sometimes where once in awhile I should buy the good chocolate or a fancy coffee! I need to treat myself more. Hope all your planning of moving goes great.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement. It's not the best time to sell here and move somewhere else since we'll take a bath on this house and moving to almost anywhere in the country(that has adequate medical care for my conditions)will be pricey. I have one child I am on good terms with who refuses to let his siblings poison his mind against us. Guess who's getting all our money when we croak(and it's not his siblings)? 8-) Living well may be the best revenge but the two ungrateful, disrespectful shits we raised and turned their backs on us will rue the day/their actions after we are gone and that gives me moments of delight now.

  3. Good luck with the move. I was shocked you moved to a new state like that without having spent a whole lot of time there and was pretty sure you’d not like it. Onward.

    1. Well we visited Daughter when she lived here for weeks on end, then after she came home to live in order to graduated and then went back we visited again. The only reason we moved here near her was at her behest. She said she wanted to have us near and would take care of us and when she had a baby she wanted us here to help out. Well, she has done nothing for us, won't even call us, talk/see us or help in any way(not that we are that needy yet). She ignores us but she is more than willing and ready to take our money! I know the baby thing can change but still.....she listens to her older brother who has done nothing but lie and deceive us and isn't interested in the whole truth. I am done living for my grown ass adult children!

  4. I have one serving of bow tie pasta and most of a pot of lentil soup left. There’s a box of puff pastry lingering in the freezer so maybe I’ll make a pot pie. That would require digging to the bottom of the basement freezer for some kind of fake meat so maybe not.

    1. Basement freezers are just too much work, right?lol I read "puff pasta" not puff pastry the first time and thought wth?? How about a veggie pot pie instead?

  5. It will be veggie but I try to add some extra protein. Maybe tofu cubes if I don’t feel like digging.

The basement freezer definitely needs to be organized. The top half is filled with clearance bread, bagels and Daiya cheese. I’ve been loading that stuff up in laundry baskets when I want something from the bottom. Not the most efficient technique. 😀

    1. I use to use baskets in my chest freezer since things in the bottom were not reachable to this midget. ;-)

  8. Jre I think we have great medical care here and there really is Minnesota nice (at least I think so). There are many smaller areas with a lower COL outside of the cities area or St.Coud or Fargo ND (great medical communities) but……. There’s that weather. This winter has been amazing! But then I still love having all four seasons. My thoughts are if you can afford to get away for a couple trips to warm areas in the winter months it makes it way more tolerable.

    1. I don't mind Snow(use to it from PA)but the only HS docs are at Rochester(Mayo) and in Minneapolis(U of M)-big cities. And MN is not cheap but thanks for the info. I've enjoyed my visits to MN.

    2. Yes I almost forgot that this is not a good state tax wise for retirees. I have a friend looking at SD for that reason, currently lives in ND. Yes Mayo and UofM are great. Have used them both plus several great hospitals in the cities that are specialties hospitals.

  9. If your HS doctor is in Mississippi, Madison, north of Jackson is nice as is Brandon, Mississippi. I am trying to think of cheap places to live but still with medical doctors that you need. Have you checked out UAB in Birmingham? Huntsville, which is about 80 miles north of Birmingham is high tech and is beautiful. So are some of the smaller towns out from Birmingham in Shelby County but Anne in the Kitchen would know more probably about all that than me. I think Nashville is really expensive. Of course MD Anderson in Texas is top rated in cancer but I don’t know if they have the specialists you need. I figure you travel a lot and won’t mind hopping on a plane to see kids if needed. I am still talking like I have a mouth full of food but the swelling is going down. Lord knows I looked like I had been in a fight and lost… lol. This eating soft food for FOUR months is for the birds. Hopefully my jaw will grow back successfully. Cindy in the South
