Neurological Issues-Don't NOT Want to Blog But.........

I am taking a break because of neurological issues that make it nearly impossible to use my hands.

The soonest I can get a Neurology consult, testing and diagnosis is February of next year here!

I've been waiting 2 Freaking YEARS!  Symptoms have starred to rapidly to progress now but nobody will schedule me something now.  This has become an urgent matter since there are neurological diseases on both sides of my family-father, with MS, his sister's daughter who died 2 years ago, as well as my maternal grandfather's mother suffered from severe MS almost her whole adult life.

I haven't been able to write for a few months and now my hands shake so bad I can hardly use a keyboard on this computer without having to retype letters constantly.  The tremors make me hit a key multiple times which means going back and correcting my typing over and over again.

This brief message has taken me over an hour to type.

So say a prayer that the issue gets addressed sooner than next year and I can regain the use of my hands.

Sluggy

  1. I am in a murder jury trial this week and pulled up your blog for just a minute to check and see if you are ok. Well, apparently not! Virtual hugs and prayers that you get your physical issues resolved. That is so concerning. Cindy in the South

  5. I am so sorry you are going through this. The healthcare system is failing us. It is ridiculous waiting to get into a dr when you need one right away. Sending you prayers and healing thoughts. I hope you get the help you need quickly. Lori R

  6. WOW! my little finger started with tremors, now my whole left arm and hand at times. But, I think it is the damage from torn rotator cuff. I hope.
Have you tried Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, or another. They will talk to you on the phone and give advice, maybe a referral or appointment if you desire. I called LSU once and got life-saving advice.

  7. Please go to friends or family where you can get an mri and neuro work up asap. Call your insurance company and get lists of providers.
I had shaking and waited too long,. I wound up with seizures, and was in and out of hospitals and was very sick for 4 years. I needed a full time aid and had to learn to walk again. Times is of the essence and there are treatments that can help your symptoms. You deserve a long and healthy life. Get going…

  8. Prayers going up for you. You can contact Mayo Clinic without referral. My daughter had a brain tumor that her dr wasn't too worried about because it was small. The dr got her a appointment with neurologist for 8 months out. Daughter was having horrible migraines and losing sight in one eye. Daughter contacted Mayo clinic in Minnesota on her own and they made her a appointment for the following week. She spent a week getting checked from head to toe by different specialists. Had brain surgery 2 weeks later. And eye sight came back and no more migraines. Not sure which Mayo Clinic is near you but it may be worth a try.

  10. Jre I’m so sorry for what you are going through. I’ll pray if that’s ok. The only other thing I’d could offer is to get a voice activated computer program (there was something called I think dragon that you talk and it types….). I know there’s other programs out there. My nephew was a quadriplegic and he could do anything on the computer. That doesn’t address your neurological problems but I’d find the nearest best large medical ? Teaching hospital and go into the ER! Lie if you need to, certainly let them know about all your current previous symptoms but blah blah “you’re visiting that city and suddenly can’t feel …etc. and you now have acute dire symptoms” … (which really isn’t a lie) and they should pull in a full neurological consultation. Not sure it’ll work but can’t hurt. Our medical system is broken. PS I’m a RN

  12. I am so sorry that you are going through neurological problems. Sounds a bit scary too. You are in my prayers. Thank you for letting us know, and I'm sure that there are many prayer warriors among your readers.
Health care in this country is insane these days. Can you talk with the patient advocate at the hospital when you have your knee surgery? It can't hurt and maybe they can get you seen quicker than Feb. Also there are free speech to text apps that might help if you want to dictate letters and such instead of typing. Hope you can get some answers and treatment soon.

  15. Since there has been some rapid progression would your regulear medical doctor call to make you an appointment for you? They do have a duty of care and that is ridiculous you have to wait that long. I am sorry you have been feeling so lousy. Can you go out of state and be covered? Emory U. in Atlanta, Duke U in Durham NC, Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville FL are some of the top hospitals for Neurological conditions. It may be worth a try. Good Luck.

  16. Oh, my! Definitely praying! Is there a large-ish city where you live that could maybe have someone see you sooner if you have a referral from your PCP? DO mention your family history. That might help. --Elise

  23. I'm so sorry to hear this! Getting into neurologists is so hard (been there with dh) and in his case when he finally would get in, they'd say "we don't know what it is". I'm sure you already know this but make sure you are on the list in case anyone else cancels their appt.

  34. Jre I had a sister in law that that had escalating GI issues nausea, vomiting and increased pain even later going jaundiced looking. She’d had a gastric bypass months before. Her original surgeon poo pooed everything and did nothing after multiple calls/appointments, next largest city, Fargo didn’t want to touch her as she needed to follow up with her surgeon (yeah that didn’t work….). I got a call from her sister (another SIL) wondering what to do! She lived about 2 hours west in ND. I told them plus (2 BIL) put her in a car and go as fast as you can to Minneapolis to Fairview (UofM). They pulled into their ER (actually went to other hospital in error but Hennepin County which did great!) and within hours she was in surgery. They said she would have died if she’d waited longer. Part of intestine dying and tiny nick in her liver. This was years ago but still I think fits current problems. Driving 6 hours to an ER!

  35. I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time. I hope you can get care soon. It's ridiculous the waits to see specialists these days. Treat yourself kindly and do what you need to do. Go to ER if that'll help. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

  36. Hubby's primary put him on Metoprolol Tartrate for tremors. He finally saw a neurologist that said the primary needed to increase the dosage as Hubby's tremors are worse since the accident. He also had Hubby's Vitamin D checked, Primary had done that last winter. Both doctors said to make sure he was eating foods with ALL the vitamin Bs. I know part of the drag of time of you getting in to doctor is being a new patient. Call back the doctor's office and ask if they have a cancellation list. Son2 got in quicker to a doctor by being willing to go in at the last minute.
