It's the "Using Up a Load of Onions" Edition......
I bought a 20 lb. bag of onions recently at the restaurant supply store. I made French Onion Soup Gratinee last Tuesday finally! and used up quite a few onions from that bag.
This onion soup is da bomb! and not anything at all like that brown crap you get in most restaurants that is just a salt lick! This recipe uses very little salt and chicken stock and not those sodium filled bouillon cubes those restaurant soup concoctions churn out. If you love Onion Soup you need to try your hand at this recipe.
Moving on......
Here's what was planned last week--

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?
Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?
Any great deals on food at your stores this week?

I did not see the recipe! I make an onion soup with a beef roast/london broil I cook in the crock pot with water, onions and some seasonings. It is good indeed. I need to go through some recipes and plan a menu since the company is gone and I don't have a lot to eat in the house. I'm not craving a thing except shrimp and I have some in the freezer.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably pick up some milk.... but not buying too many groceries this week. We're still working on a turkey from the weekend that didn't get eaten.
ReplyDeleteand hey! Share the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI love French onion soup. Post thy recipe sometime.
ReplyDeleteMy last week menu planning was a success. This week looks to be as well, though sometimes I want to smack myself for following my grocery list so closely. On my list was 3lbs of purple potatoes. I didn't know how much they cost. I just liked the taste of it when my mom gave them to me last week.
ReplyDeleteImagine my shock when it turned out to be $3 a pound for potatoes!!!
For more on my purple potato saga read my most recent post.
Still face palming myself for spending so much on potatoes.
I luv me some French onion soup, but I can't seem to find a link to a recipe in your post?? My eyesight is fading faster than I'd like (haha) so it may be just me that can't see where the link is ...

My guest chef made barbecue chicken quesadillas for supper before daughter and I hauled out of town for a soccer game. I'll just wait to see what Rachel Ray has up her sleeve later in the week.
ReplyDeletehow lovely
ReplyDeleteI wish I could make a good onion soup.
Cherries are $1.98/lb.
