Oreo Coke & Hurricane Helene

My curiosity got the best of me when I saw this in Kroger.  Oreo and Coke have combined  forces and put out an Oreo flavored Coke product and Coke flavored Oreo cookies.

I have to say that I liked it better than regular Coke Zero Sugar!  If they ever make this flavor into 12 packs and it goes on sale, I'll buy it.

And to change gears here, it is horrible to here about the devastation from Hurricane Helene.  I remember when I was a child of 10 yrs. growing up in Virginial when Hurricane Camille hit the mountains of Virginia in August of 1969.
It was a similar situation to Helene.  Nobody who doesn't live in hurricane areas and some who do, don't ever think that a hurricane can go so far inland and do such damage and cause this magnitude of death and destruction.  But they do and they CAN.

This YouTube video is quite disturbing in regard to the poor disaster response of many agencies of the Federal Government and our POTUS and VPOTUS.  And the Federal agencies seem to want to control any private organizations and individuals who want to help.  I understand the need for coordination of help but things are not adding up. They also are downplaying the amount of destruction and lives lost.  Just like they did during Covid.

I am not generally a conspiracy theorist but lots of what the Feds are doing doesn't add up.

  1. Can't open the video but there is a lot of disinformation about FEMA's response that has been disseminated. All of the governors of the affected states have been emphatic in their praise of the aid coming in and the speed in which it arrived. Also, former President Trump falsely claimed that President Biden took FEMA relief money to use on migrants; in fact, it was Trump who took money from FEMA's disaster fund to fund migrant programs at the southern border (in 2019).

  2. Believe what you want but my distrust of government(and the current administration)disturbs me and I tend to believe private citizens who are on scene and either witnessing or going through this mess than a talking head out of DC.

  3. And if Trump took FEMA funds and Biden didn't, tell me where all the money he's given to all these hundred of thousand of undocumented aliens the Biden/Harris administration let into our country is coming from? If not FEMA it's coming out of some other agency that we citizens paid into. Another case of your tax dollars being misappropriated in some way.

  4. I agree - really $750 to hurricane folks and billions to immigrants and foreign countries? NOPE - doesn't set right with me. Govenor's have to be careful what they say - if they want anything at all. I have seen boots on the ground plain folks talk about no help there and the horridness of the situation.

    1. I keep seeing tons of eyewitness videos of folks who where there(and are still there)and the meager and slow response of FEMA, etc. It just sickens me...
This is why we shouldn't rely on government for anything.

  5. Hello, I have been reader for years now. We moved to outside of Asheville, NC from Charleston, SC to get away from the coast. My husband and I are the lucky ones. We did have damage to our house (4 100 foot white oaks fell on the house. But, we were not involved in the flooding. One of my biggest concerns following everything that happened is that we were not properly informed of the severity of the situation. We still do not have water. We belong to a local farm co op and have send truck loads of fresh fruit and vegetables to the relief centers. We are also taking care of our elderly neighbors by making sure they have water. Many of the flood victims who lost everything did not have flood insurance because there has not been a flood of this magnitude in 500 years. (not sure where they got the fact)

    1. I am thankful y'all are ok and I pray for all those who lost everything. This sure hit home for me after some relatives went through the destruction Camille caused in the mountains of VA when I was a kid.

    2. I'm in NC & that's a lie there, Sluggy.
FEMA is doing a great job helping folks in desperate need. People like you spreading this lie helps no one. The $750 is just a START to funds people will be able to access.
Republicans want to do away with FEMA. How's that gonna work for ya? LOL

    4. Ok Anonymous, so that means you are calling all these people who have been directly impacted by this Hurricane in Western NC and posting videos on YouTube are Liars?? FEMA has always been a disaster and slow to help....just look at the timeline of their response to Katrina, Sandy, and Hugo to just name a few. A week before any substantial Government response is unacceptable. And don't try to say that this administration didn't say that they took
FEMA funds to give to the millions of undocumented aliens in our country they just let in unabated. Check out the Press Secretary clips from 2022 when she claimed such and now how they are walking back what was claimed.
Where you in Western NC and directly affected by Hurricane Helene? If so, give us your take on the situation instead of just blasting me.

  7. I weep for our country how lies and disformation immediately starts about any national event, more wanting power than cooperation.

  8. Slugmama, I don't live in hurricane country, but I live in southern California, so we have earthquakes and wildfires. Every area of the country has some form of weather disaster. I feel terrible for the poor people of these areas who have been hit so hard by the hurricane. I agree with Bobbi; every governor in that area has praised the speed of FEMA's reaction and the amount of help that is offered. I'm not familiar with the area, but on a map a lot of it looks impassable, and I understand that it is very difficult to get supplies to some areas because of the topography. NO ONE should attack you personally. As you said, they have no idea of what you've done or haven't done, and no one is in a position to judge anyone. I hope your health is improving.

    1. Of course all the governors are praising FEMA's response. It would be against their political future and what help comes their way. My poroblem with FEMA(as with most governmental agencies)is the lack of urgency they show. This is a bloated bureaucracy who's response has been made worse by the POTUS(didn't even know what storm this was when asked by a reporter)and a VP off campaigning and not doing anything in a leadership role. Who the hell is minding the store and running the country because it hasn't been these two for at the least months now.
I am familiar with Western NC topography as I've spent time there plus it is similar to Western VA where I had relatives living during Camille. If the hollars of KY ever get hit then are screwed even worse.
Thank for the comment and the wish for my health too. 8-)

  9. I really don't know why I am responding, but here are some good things that are happening during this disaster.

So far North Carolinians have received more than $27 million in individual assistance approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said MaryAnn Tierney, a regional administrator for the agency. More than 83,000 people have registered for individual assistance, according to the office of Gov. Roy Cooper.

In Buncombe County, where Asheville is located, FEMA-approved assistance has surpassed $12 million for survivors, Tierney said Saturday during a news briefing.

Perhaps we should be helping more instead of spreading more crap?

  10. FEMA tends to overstate the numbers of people they are helping and to what extent. And why was their response to this disaster a week late? You want to answer that?
When there are military installations pretty near by in NC that were not sent or their was a delay in sending them in. And these troops are trained in search and rescue, would have been a great help in the initial timeline. especially in these sorts of topography.
I know mountain folks....having come from such stock on my mother's side. They will help each other and distrust Government.
And how do you know I am not helping or not? Maybe you need to stay in your lane.

  11. FEMA is just the coordinating agency. The boots on the ground/the muscle behind relief efforts is the military. According to a retired officer who often coordinated disaster relief the military was not put on standby this time as they were in the days leading up to Katrina. His article appeared recently on The Federalist website. Very interesting.
