I Won't Be Posting for Awhile

I probably won't be posting for awhile due to what I am typing out below.
When I recover from this episode I'll be looking for a new doctor and medical system to go to.
*********************

I currently sit here in pain(level 6 at the moment down from a 10 last night)with back muscle spasms so bad they woke me from a sound sleep.
After trying my Rx for muscle spasms, which did nothing, off to the ER we go at 4 am.

I was seen by the ER doc and given 2 Percocet(which did nothing), then a bit later, Toradol in an IV(which also did nothing)and then finally a Valium(which finally helped the pain down to a level I can bear the ride home on the pothole riddled roads around here).

ER doc wrote me a script for Percocet(6 pills)and wouldn’t give me what actually helped(the Valium)as it is “addictive”. Last I heard Percocet was also addictive?  Why give me a narcotic that didn't help?!?  Hubs took me home.

I finally get through the the doctor's office and find out I can’t be seen by my regular doctor's practice until Monday-that’s 4 days away from the ER visit.
My doctor's practice won’t write me a script until they see me and the nurse wished me to, “have a nice day” before hanging up. I seriously doubt I’ll have a nice day until sometime after Monday when the dr. sees me as I’ll be out of the Percocet by Friday night(not that it helped anyway).
At this point I lost it.  I am vacillating between crying my eyes out and being so FURIOUS I can't see straight!!!

Evidently Doctors and medical entities that thems belong to around here don’t want to heal their patients it seems, as they are more concerned with covering their asses, legal speaking. They crank out substandard care and just keep sending the bills.

So if anyone needs me during the next 4 days, dollars to donuts look for me at my local ER first. where I will be a frequent visitor until Monday(and paying co-pays out the nose for the pleasure of using it when ONE Rx for Valium may have avoided the horrendous amounts of $$$ I'll be paying out to visit the ER multiple!).

The government and fucking trial lawyers who have brought on this insane situation where a doctor won’t/can’t/is too afraid of legal repercussions to prescribe an Rx that a patient needs to heal, can all go kiss my lily white ass!

Sluggy, feeling helpless, depressed and in a lot of pain

  1. Oh my goodness. I am so sorry you are going through this. I went to ER in January and saw the doctor for exactly 3 minutes. I wouldn't do what she wanted - massive steroids in an IV because my Internal Med. Dr. has told me to avoid that with my CHF and heart challenges. Of course this was on a Sunday and I NEVER go to the ER unless it is a very last resort and I'm seriously scared. My heart doctor always says avoid them and call him if I think it's a heart problems so he can meet me there and call them to notify them not to do anything unless he clears it. They will kill you there - his words. I also agree that the medical profession has gone all wimpy and worried that they will be sued so they don't really treat the patient like they used to. I am still fighting the ER Doctors bill. 179.00 was my part and she wasn't worth a plug nickle. Gotta love the system - NOT! My son had cellulitis in his leg three times last year and the last two times I had to tell them what it was in ER (his regular Dr. had sent him home) and then fight with them to get him admitted. In this state the hospitals think anyone male from the ages of 16 to 50 is seeking narcotics even though they can see visible signs and labs confirm there is a major problem. Luckily I have nothing but time and a strong sense of justice so no I won't go down without a fight for myself or someone I love and care about. I would say hope you feel better (and I truly hope you do) but I know that won't be the case unless a miracle happens or they give you what actually works. All I can say is hang in there and give 'em hell if need be.

  2. Sorry they went from over prescribing to NOT prescribing. Our government does not know how to be rational ...just one extreme or another. I hope you find some relief. Kim N.

  3. Sadly all docs pay for the "Pill Writers" and now with narcotic scripts being counted and reported docs are afraid of losing their licenses to write legitimate scripts.
I truly hope you feel much better, but raise all the hell you need to!

  4. So true. Doctors afraid to really practice medicine anymore due to regulations and insurance companies. So much for doing what is the best doe their patients. Pathetic. I have b/l severe knee pain with every step I take until I lose more weight to have surgery. Those that make the regulations need to walk in my shoes for a short time so that they know what it feels like to be in so much pain. So much for trying to have a good quality of life. Newer doctors are the worse. Most just do not care....deal with it.

    1. Karen. It's true there are doctors who want you to lose weight before knee surgery. I happened to find a doctor who did not require me to lose weight. I was bone on bone with awful pain. Dr. Olsen did both of my knee replacements and let me tell you, I am a chunky monkey, nothing skinny here. The right was done in 2017, the left in 2018 and the right hip was also replaced in 2017 and I am doing great. Still trying to lose the weight I should. Good luck to you!

  6. This just showed up in my email feed, 3 hours after you posted. YOu know that I am coming off of my own back spasm issue. A month of Prednisone seems* to have done the trick, as has ice/heat repeat and PT. Can you get in to see a back specialist? So sorry that you are going thru this, I understand how debilitating it can be. ((Denise))

  7. I am so sorry! I've had the same type of back pain and know just how you feel. It's been a while since I had an Rx, but I believe the doc gave (gave? Ha!) me Flexoril or something like that. I hope you find relief very soon.

  8. I think the opioid issue is the problem. Patients who truly need pain medication can’t get it now and if they get any it’s only for those few days. its ridiculous. I hope you feel better soon.

  9. Maybe you can find some drugs on the black market? 😉

  10. I am so sorry! I have chronic pain so I can understand your frustration. Everything you said is true. I hope it works itself out before Monday so you can have some relief. Would CBD oils work? Smoking a dooby? (Do they call it a dooby anymore?) Whatever works!

  13. I am SO sorry - having dealt with "Covered California" and I use the term "covered" loosely....I feel your pain!!!!

Try to rest as much as you are able (which I know won't be much) and keep being the best advocate for yourself that you can be even if it means NOT making many friends at the hospital!!!! And, on a side note, SHAME on your doctor's office for not fitting you in or having the doctor call you!!!!!! HANG IN THERE!!!!!

  14. Oh sluggy, I am so sorry. This is a nightmare for you. It also makes me furious. I watched my mother suffer extreme pain for three years and she was only given comfort in her last 10 days. I have not been back to my regular go since before she died as I am still so mad at him. When you do finally get to see your doctor I would really let him have it and then make sure you have a script for the drugs you need on hand and then have several bottles put aside. This is what I do with my pain meds. I don't trust the son of a bitches. I keep them well hidden and not in my purse. Is Dan just beside himself? Joel would be so furious. When they thought I broke my arm I was not offered anything for pain. I was shocked.

  16. There is a long country road where, I am told, every house sells a different type drug.

  17. Oh no! That is so not right that your primary is making you wait so long...they should have seen you right away!
Back pain is no joke. Although I have never had an issue, my husband has had surgery twice (herniated disc). He felt so good after the first surgery, he never had the pain meds filled. Once the pain block wore off, he was in agony. It took almost 12 hours to get the pain to stop with Vicodin. It was a nightmare.

I can just imagine how bad you feel. Poor kid. Hang in there. Maybe try a heating pad and some tylenol along with the percocet...and hunt for a new practice.

  18. so sorry to hear you're in so much pain Sluggy. Hope you get well soon.

  19. I am so sorry to hear you are not doing well. The whole medical system has gone nuts it is a complete mess!! I would actually think the Valium a better option for them to prescribe then the Percocet. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

  21. I am so sorry you are in such pain. I wonder if there is something natural that might help: massage? Hot baths?

  22. Oh my darling!!!! I'm so sorry you're in so much pain right now!
I'm praying your pain gets wiped out soon!

  24. (((((Sluggy))))) I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. It's just not right. I hope you can get some relief and the pain subsides sooner rather than later.

  25. Oh Sluggy, I am so sorry you are going through this. Hugs and I hope you find a Dr that actually cares. Here they seem to fit people in no matter what..our Drs seem to stay late almost every day to make sure their patients are attended to. This even when they don't make nearly like their American counterparts as everything is regulated here as to how much each service pays.

  26. So sorry Sluggy! I pray you get relief faster than what you think will happen.

  27. I really hope you find some relief soon (and relief from all the morons out there that aren't helping anyone even though THAT'S THERE JOB also). So sorry you're going through this!

  28. I'm so sorry. Hubby has back issues so I know the pain you are in. I'm praying for you and cursing the doctors.

  29. Oh Sluggy, I am so sorry you are hurting. That is nuts they won't give you what you need. As for the Valium, I was on it for YEARS (for severe RLS as at the time there was no other approved med to treat it) and I never got addicted. It is far easier to treat pain at a lower level than wait until someone is at their wits end. I sure hope you get some relief and find out what is causing you to feel like $#it.

  30. It's too bad you have to be in pain. Sorry no one is helping you. Try not to move.

  31. I hope by some miracle you find relief before seeing the doctor on Monday!!! Crazy, how the medical system can put off helping their patients is horrible.
So sorry you are in pain and have to deal with an inconsiderate medical office.

  32. Sluggy I'm so sorry. I really have no words for your situation. It's just a damn shame that it has to be that way.

  33. I'm not a doctor, but methocarbamol or robaxin is a muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasms. It is not an opioid/narcotic but frequently can make you sleepy or groggy. It is by prescription only.

  34. I am so sorry.... people truly in pain have it rough these days. I hope you can get the relief you need soon.
