We have lots of things up in the air and possibly coming down the turnpike around here in Sluggy Land.
Some things I can't talk about now as they are medical in nature(and not my medical issues for a change)but it is affecting my life now and might affect it more fully if things work out one way rather than another.
One thing I can mention is that the Daughter is contemplating going back to college to finish her degree. She has applied to a particular school and has gotten accepted already AND they gave her a $12K merit scholarship.
Of course this a private college and not a public one so $12K is merely a drop in the financial bucket to afford attending this institution.
However she only needs to do 2 years worth of work and won't have to live on campus.
There are other colleges yet to hear from and she is mulling over her options.
This particular college is located near us so if she attends there she will move back home to live until the sheepskin is in hand.
If this plays out in this way, it will affect our retirement plans/moving plans a bit. It also means I need to make room for a fourth(and a fifth is her BF comes too)person in this house.
This is something I hadn't counted on.....having to downsize my stuff even more so they/she can move back home for a couple of years. Of course, there will have to be compromises made in the way the house is used/lived in now as well.
This is not an unsurmountable issue. And we have time to figure it all out once she commits to going there(deadline is May 1)and comes back sometime in August to start in the Fall.
But it does make planning anything for the coming year(mostly travel)impossible until this school and the medical issues are settled one way or the other.
It just goes to show that life changes and not always in the way you think it will. ;-)

Ahhh, the joys of having children! The good news is you will have a new drinking buddy or two.
ReplyDeleteOh hell they can drink me under the table....much like Anna and Scott I bet. lol
DeleteGood for your daughter. How very forward of you to open your home to her boyfriend as well. As for the medical issues, you will be in my thoughts. Hope all goes well. Finally, thank you for the bathroom "before" shots. I confess to quite the proclivity for "reno porn."
ReplyDeleteReno Porn will be forthcoming. Thanks for the good thoughts on the medical too.
DeleteYou definitely have the right attitude. Kids always throw those curve balls :) I hope everything is ok medically, but as with everything, those issues can be dealt with as well. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheapchick. At least we have the $ to deal with whatever comes up medically. If not we'd be in for a world of hurt.....
DeleteThat's great for your DD. She was the one who had moved down south? Well, if she does move back in, those 2 years will fly by. Hope the medical stuff isn't too serious.
ReplyDeleteYes Daughter is the one living in LA now. I don't know.....we don't tend to do well living for so long in close quarters. Maybe I'll go live in her house in LA while she lives in mine in PA. lol
DeleteWhy can't wr all get to a point where we can make decisions based splely on ourself/spouse? Oh yeah-that parent status id for life. Hope and prayers for good outcomes on the health front.
ReplyDeleteYes, when does it end really?....when we die? lolz
DeleteOldest is 24.5 and we are still having to assist him at times, though he is mostly self-sufficient and mostly supporting financially his GF. I don't think College Boy will ever move out of our basement tho. lolz
What is the saying? "Want to make God laugh? Make a plan." Love your outlook!
ReplyDeleteMan plans, God laughs. Yep, that's how it works. lol
DeleteI hope it's nothing serious, medically!
ReplyDeleteand HA! as soon as you get an empty nest, that just makes room for folks to climb right in. I know from experience...
The solution is to empty the nest and MOVE to a much smaller place. Don't leave any room for em to move back. Have you thought of a Tiny House yet? hehehe
DeleteWell I sure hope the medical is not too serious. Happy daughter is going back to school. I know that is what you and hubs want. You have plenty of room but kids moving back in can be stressful. I know I will trade you my mom! We have an excellent college here.
ReplyDeleteOh well, I guess that means we won't be neighbors anytime soon. I hope the medical problems are nothing very serious. I will probably never have the issue of my child moving back in because I don't think she's ever going to leave. lol.
ReplyDeleteWell she isn't leaving if she doesn't learn to drive.
DeleteGet on that woman......seriously...... ;-)
If you are like me, medical problems are harder when they are someone else. I would much rather be the patient thN the one standing by. Anyway, I hope the outcome is good for everyone. Kids what can I say, it never ends.
ReplyDeleteWell I wouldn't rather be the patient myself but yes, it's hard to be on the sidelines, especially if it's one of your kids going through it.
DeleteWe are working on making it better for everyone concerned but as a parent I can only do so much.
