Art or Fashion? Edward Scissorhands Meets the Country Club

I wanted to share something with you all today.

Now I have an art background.
And I have a rollicking sense of humor....or at least, I've been told I do. ;-)
But this made even me say WTF?!?

Here is a video of a recent Fashion Show by a well known American Designer.
This is his Fall 2012 Menswear Collection.

I want you to watch this, watch it CLOSELY and then tell me if this is big elaborate and very expensive joke or does he consider this a serious collection that buyers will want to purchase for their stores?

Or is what he is doing art with little regard for the profitability of his line of clothing?
And if you are a guy.....tell me if there is anything you see here that you would buy(if money was no object)and you would subsequently wear?

I'd like to hear your impressions or thoughts on this video as well.

You can also go HERE for a slideshow and/or collection of photos of the fashion show.

  1. OMG, I thought I had some sewing disasters. May be I should have saved them.

I tried to picture my boss showing up at work in a new outfit, my son jumping into his truck, my DH heading for the golf course. LOL, thanks for sharing.

  2. I think he was just having fun and making art. I don't have a problem with a guy in a skirt...saw one just the other day at Trader Joe's who also had a fuzzy hot pink hat with cat ears. I see that kind of stuff a lot when I'm in certain parts of the city.

I didn't like the exaggerated body parts and I don't especially like any of these ensembles for men, but there were a couple of things that would look good on a teen or young 20s female. One outfit in particular looked like pjs or long underwear. I liked that one.

To me, this is more costuming than fashion.

  3. Oh, I forgot to add that the skirted man in Trader Joe's wasn't a young pretty androgynous thing. He was 45-50 and otherwise masculine.

  4. I'm in the wrong business. He makes that shit and gets paid for it too? C'mon!

  5. No one will where these, except Willi Wonka, or perhaps Elton John. This was just an art design contest as with most design shows. But it is creative.

  6. Met Costume Institute was one of the labels. They mentioned Frankenstein. So, I assume this is not serious fashion; it's part art. It is weird, nonetheless. Men can wear skirts. Why would they want to wear elbows and butts?

I would bet none of these are reproduced as shown. But, for women the far out designs are made a decent length, some of the glitter or tails disappears and an article of clothing makes appearance, one that includes incarnations of the bizarre now in a form that a woman will wear. That is how they do it for the ladies clothing.

The menswear will have sleeves that are less skinny, less high armholes, pants legs the same length and probably other choices of color in the case of pink and green outfits. No padded derrieres or elbows or knees or shoulders. We would not even recognize the final article on the rack.

Remember the guy commented on gender and pinks and greens. That was all for show, for entertainment.

Maybe a golfer with the style of Payne Stewart would like these clothing once the bizarre twist was gone.

  8. Bwahahahahahahahaha! Seriously though, I would wear that stuff only on Halloween and only if it were given to me. What a crock!
