Moussaka Recipe

A reader asked for my Moussaka recipe so I dug it out and realized I haven't made it in years.

Here 'tis....

Ingredients

* 1.5 lbs. ground lamb(can use beef or a combo of the two)

* 3 medium eggplants

* Salt

* 1/2 cup olive oil

* 2 onions, sliced thin

* 1 clove garlic, crushed(I used minced)

* 2 tomatoes, peeled and chopped

* 1 cup of tomato puree

* 1 teaspoon basil, chopped or dried

* 1/2 teaspoon all spice

* 1 Tablespoon parsley, chopped or dried

* 3 Tablespoons butter

* 3 cups milk

* 3 Tablespoons flour

* 3 eggs-room temperature

* Pinch of nutmeg

* 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

* salt and pepper to taste

Cut eggplants into thin slices, sprinkle them with salt to remove that bitter taste and leave for 15 minutes.  Rinse slices and pat dry.  Then brush slices with oil and put on greased baking sheet.  Bake at 350F for 15 minutes.  Turn slices, oil tops and bake another 10-15 minutes.  Saute onion in small amount of leftover olive oil until soft.   Then add lamb(or beef)and brown until cooked through.
Add garlic, tomatoes, puree, allspice, basil and parsley.  Stir and simmer 15 minutes until thickened.

In a casserole pan alternate layers of eggplant and meat mixture, ending with a layer of eggplant on top.

For the Bechamel sauce--Melt butter, stir in flour until "cooked" then add the milk off the heat.  Bring this mixture to a boil, then simmer 2 minutes.  Remove from heat and beat in eggs.(Temper your eggs by adding some of the milk mixture to your beaten eggs, while whisking the whole time, then slowly whisking all your eggs into your milk mixture.  Season to taste(nutmeg, salt, pepper).  Pour sauce over moussaka then top with cheese.
Bake at 350F for 1 hour or until browned on top.  Cool before dishing out so it holds together.

Since tomatoes aren't in season you can substitute canned crushed tomatoes for the fresh tomatoes.

Making Moussaka is a production, much like making a Lasagna or Eggplant Parm but it freezes well so you can keep half for another meal at another time.

Now that I've typed all this out I want some Moussaka! lol

It's Been a Long Psychedelic Trip!

**If you are squeamish about blood and stuff you may want to skip this post.**

After our flight back from our cruise in December we were staying at Sissie's house for a few days before we flew back to DFW airport and then drove the 3 hours back to our house in Louisiana.

I had been sleeping in Sissie's tall antique bed with Hubs a few days before we flew to Miami to catch the cruise ship.  Sissie bought a hard plastic folding stool to aid me in getting into and out of her bed so I didn't have to catapult myself into the bed and jump down off it to the floor.

I guess I forgot how to use a stool or I wasn't quite awake fully when I tried to exit the bed on Christmas Eve morning.  I remember I stepped on the stool with my left foot but I must have been on the corner and when I put weight on that foot the stool popped up into the air and sliced open the lower part of my right leg.  I felt myself falling off the stool and luckily Sissie has one of those luggage racks in her bedroom for us and my suitcase was open on it.  As I fell forward I grabbed the edge of my suitcase with both hands to keep from hitting my head on the floor.

I stood up and looked down at my feet and Sissie's carpeting was filling up with a pool of blood around my foot.  I grabbed my cellphone and hopped to her master bath so I didn't bleed out on her new carpet.  The linoleum in the bathroom would be a better choice to make a bloody mess on.  So I sat on the toilet and used my phone to call Hubs.  That call went to voicemail, so I called Sissie.  That call also went to voicemail(I found out later her phone was in the basement.)  I knew Kim wouldn't pick up if I called her so I didn't even attempt a third call.  I could hear all 5 of them downstairs in the kitchen laughing and having a boisterous time.  The thought that I'd bleed out and die in Sissie's bathroom with all of them downstairs.

So I told myself I'll start yelling for help and if they still can't hear me I'll dial 911 for an ambulance.  I commenced screaming.  It took about 30 seconds before someone noticed my cries and Hubs came running up the stairs and found me in the bathroom.  I told him I cut myself and it was bad....well you could see all the blood on the floor and know that instantly. ;-)

Hubs yelled for Sissie's husband to come upstairs.  He was a medic in the Navy and was a battlefield corpsman in Afghanistan so the most qualified in the house to know what to do.  He sprang into action yelling for towels and things to staunch the bleeding and told someone to call for an ambulance.

I took this photo while he compressed the area and we waited for the paramedics to arrive.  Am I a cool cucumber or what? lol  Little did I know this stupid slip off the stool would lead me down a 3 month long road to recovery.
The paramedics arrived and by then Sissie's hubby had wrapped my leg up tight.  He briefed the paramedics as they led me to the ambulance.  Then they tried to recruit Sissie's hubby due to his military/medical training as they are always wanting fresh blood(no pun intended).
Hubs rode in the ambulance with me to the hospital.  Triage nurse unwrapped the wound and it began gushing again so I got wrapped up again and sent out into the waiting room.  We spent hours in that waiting room.  Kim and Sissie brought us some Mickey D's breakfast sandwiches around 11 am.  There was a homeless man sleeping in the corner and an agitated gentleman pacing around talking loudly to no one in particular.  He got angry at times and  appeared to be a drug seeker who they weren't going to  dispense opioids to so he got angrier and angrier but security didn't come to see him out.  Since I wasn't an emergency as the bleeding was stanched again we sat for hours.

Then they took me to get an x-ray on my foot/ankle.  I told the technician it wasn't my foot or ankle that was injured, it was my lower leg.
So about an hour after that x-ray they called me back into the ER.  By this time the wrap they had put on  me hours ago was unraveling and the blood had started flowing about.  As I hobbled across the waiting room to the nurse I apologized for the trail of blood I left across the breadth of the  waiting room.
Then began the wait for the NP to access what needed to be done.  She put a basin under my leg and washed the wound with saline as more blood oozed out.  The NP said I had sliced my leg almost to the bone but hadn't compromised any major tendons.  Yay me.  Another x-ray technician appeared in my cubicle with a portable x-ray machine to take a picture of the injured area as the last x-ray \ was a mistake by the hospital.
After he left the NP put Chlorhexidine gluconate on the wound to disinfect it and I about jumped out of my skin.  This stuff burned sooooooooo badly.  It's got to be the worse reaction to an antiseptic I've ever had.
After that she hit me with some lidocaine and started stitching me up.  It was a deep wound and I needed both internal and external stitches.  She must have stitched for hours and they finally released me at 5pm with instructions to keep the area clean and dry, my leg elevated if possible and to arrange to have the stitches(external, not the internal ones)removed in 10 days.

Sissie's Hubby picked us up from the hospital and then we had to find a pharmacy open on Christmas eve night to fill the antibiotic Rx and buy rolled gauze and pads to cover the wound.
Got that procured and went back to the house just in time for a late dinner.

Here's the wound on Christmas Day when we changed dressings.
Then Joel had his heart attack that morning which made my accident a non-event.  I spent most of Christmas in bed(the little bed this time!).  I did hobble down for dinner and opening gifts with everyone, though we were all in zombie mode at that point.

The following morning Sissie's hubby drove us to the airport.  Thankfully we had arranged beforehand for a wheelchair to get us to the gate.
I hadn't slept well since out day in Cozumel on the boat, then the accident, then Joel's passing so I was exhausted.  I put my face against the window on the plane and basically passed out for 2 hours.  No way to elevate my leg on the plane nor in the car once we got to Dallas to drive home 3 hours.

I mostly laid in bed or in the recliner once we got home.  I had an appointment to get the stitches out on Jan. 3rd.
Here is the photo from December 29th.  You can see a dark spot on the right above the stitched area which was a massive hematoma forming.

By January 1st those stitched looked about to pop because of all the pooled blood underneath the stitches.

Finally January 3rd came and I had the stitches removed.

My NP put tiny little steri-strips over the wound but the skin was contracting and pretty soon I had
on open gash again.  the NP also put pressure on all those blood "bubbles" and drained some of it.  I don't know the technical term as I don't play a medical professional on the internet. :-)

The NP had Hubs putting antibiotic ointment and then a medical grade honey on the wound daily and redressing it daily.  She also referred me to a wound care agency as this would require more care than she was capable of doing.

So after another week waiting for that referral and Hubs taking care of this(bless him!)I went to wound care.

This photo is from January 14th.  Wound care on the 11th had debrided the wound with what I called a power washer with a little metal shovel on the end of the hose.  It was an ultrasonic debridement machine.  I told them it would be cheaper to just put me on the hood of a car and run me through a mechanical car wash. ;-)  At any rate, that machine hurt like hell and became my arch nemesis.

Another photo from January 16th before another debridement with that f#*^&ing machine.

The wound care place started putting compression on the wound and told me what supplements I needed to start taking(which I did religiously).

How I spent my Birthday....getting the wound cleaned, taking meds and lying in bed.  go me.

Wound care sent me for tests the last week of January to make sure my blood flow to my extremities was good enough to withstand full on 40 millibars of pressure compression wrapping of my leg.
I passed with flying colors so the dreadful 2 layer compression bandaging began.  I spent from February 8th until March 22nd in compression dressings.

Wound Care arranged for a Home Health nurse to come deal with this twice a week besides my once a week trip to Wound Care.

At the February 16th visit they put some blue medicine, Hyrdofera Blue, around the wound which looked very funky.

At every visit(wound care and the HH nurse twice weekly)I was to have new compression bandaging put on.  The only problem with that was that the staff at the wound care couldn't for the life of themselves put compression bandaging on correctly.  Between Wednesday when I had the wound care appointment and Friday when the home health nurse came, the bandages would be falling off-usually  coming off the front of my foot.

Without fail on Friday I would have a Tubigrip on my leg and the home health nurse would be rolling her eyes.
At first, the first few times the compression bandaging the Wound Care staff put on had come undone I took pictures to show the NP and she'd want me to rat out whomever had done the bandaging.  As time went on these first bandaging folks were nowhere to be found when I was at the clinic.  I don't want to be a "Karen" about it but seriously, don't have people who don't know the proper way to compression bandage applying it.  I felt like I was paying $$ for shoddy service.

Home Health shot on Feb. 20th.  The Hydrofera Blue was wearing off and you could actually see new skin forming.

Wound Care appointment on Feb. 24th.  The wound is still oozing.

Home health appointment on Feb. 27th.  You can see creases in my skin from the compression bandages and more new skin.  the side wound on the right was healed over.

The following wound care appointment the NP took a metal tool and ripped open the right side that had healed over.  This photo is from March 10th about a week after the NP opened that part of the wound.  My home health nurse was fit to be tied!

Wound Care kept ripping things open and extending my adventure.

Finally on Friday, March 17th  I had but one tiny spot still open where the NP had reopened my wound on the right.  Home Health wrapped it up good for the weekend and when she came back on Monday this is what it looked like

Very gnarly looking still but no open areas!!!
Another compression wrapping and back to wound care on
Wednesday the 22nd and this is what it looked like........

Everything closed up.
And I didn't even need
Ernest Angley..........

So the NP said I could come back the following week(and have her maybe rip something open again??No way!)so I said thanks but no thanks, we can take it from here.
So I got a t-shirt and a plastic bracelet..........

1-855-HEAL-DAT?
I guess that's what you get when you move to WHO DAT NATION.......

Here I am ringing the bell at Wound Care.  It's like the bell at Long John Silver's you ring when you have a good meal there. lol

So glad to be done with this place.
And here is my most excellent home health nurse on the day of our divorce....

Now that this saga is behind me it's on to other issues.
Until this past weekend I hadn't worn proper shoes given the thickness of the compression bandages.  I've had to wear slippers when going out.
Now that I can wear shoes again, I find I have partially forgotten how to and not trip myself. lol
Ah, good times!

This Week on the Dining Table

The "It's Greek to Me" Edition.....

On one of our Wednesday appointment days earlier this month we went to "Yeero Yeero", the only Greek family owned restaurant we've found here.  After figuring out where the front door was(which was far from obvious-it was in the back)the interior was very grand if overpowering visually.  I think the building was originally a small bank which would make sense if you ever saw this place.  Anyway, we just got Gyros and they were pretty good.  Hubs wants to go back another time and try their Dolmades(stuffed grape leaves)as he loves those.  I am not a fan.  I'm all about a good Greek Salad and I make a wonderful Moussaka.  A Greek restaurant in PA we went to had a Greek hamburger/cheeseburger but this place doesn't do one.  More's the pity.

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned.......
1. Sunday--Chicken Parm, Roasted Asparagus
2. Monday--Lemon Pepper Chicken w/Zucchini in Tomato Sauce, Rice
3. Tuesday--Tacos or Taco Salad
4. Wednesday--Chicken Teriyaki Stir-Fry w/Veggies, Rice
5. Thursday--Dental Work so ??
6.  Friday--Leftovers
7. Saturday--Leftovers

And here's what actually happened........
1. Sunday--Chicken Parm, Roasted Asparagus
2. Monday--Lemon Pepper Chicken w/Zucchini in Tomato Sauce, Rice
3. Tuesday--Chicken Teriyaki Stir-Fry w/Veggies, Rice
4. Wednesday--Leftovers(more Stir-Fry for me)
5. Thursday--Jello Du Jour and a Frosty
6.  Friday--Cheeseburger
7. Saturday--Tacos using leftover Ground Beef
More dental work on Thursday so Hubs fended for himself.  He also made the tacos on Saturday.
Now that my wound had closed up I am having to deal with a bum knee that keeps me from walking around and doing much. ugh

What got put into the freezer last week....
*  5 bags/boxes of frozen Veggies
*  2 packs of hot dogs
*  2.5 lbs. of Ground Beef

What got taken out of the freezer and used...
*  3 Chicken thighs
*  1 Chicken Parm box
*  1 bag of Teriyaki Chicken
*  1 bag of Stir-Fry Veggies

Last week  and we both hit Kroger and Walmart on Wednesday and spent a total of $126.02.
This brings our food/toiletries/paper goods Total to $473.79 for March so far.

There are 4 shopping days left in March but I won't be shopping anymore this month.

I've earned $91.71 on Ibotta in March.

I've earned 517 SB from food shopping on Swag Bucks in March.

That's $129.17 in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Fetch)on $473.79 in grocery spending so in reality it's $344.62 in food spending after the 3 rebate apps I count.

My savings percentage for the last week was 32.35% and the monthly savings total for March comes in at 34.90% so far.

Leftovers going into this week.....some cabbage, corned beef, 1 chicken thighs, zucchini, rice.  Hubs will be cobbling together meals this week as I am indisposed.  We have lots in the freezer if he choses to use it.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Frugal Friday.....the March 24th Edition on Saturday

 Welcome to Frugal Friday on Saturday!

There are a few Frugal wins this past week......

*  I got released from wound care and home health so no more bills from that!

*  I don't "do" Ibotta all the time now(I just don't go to the store enough to do all the weekly, weekend and big bonuses).  But I do a few now and again.  On Wednesday my big wins at Kroger and Walmart were these.....

Both razors were free or better(one from Kroger was a $1.01 moneymaker and the one from Walmart was a .53¢ moneymaker).  The low dose aspirin was .49¢ after sales/coupons/Ibotta.

The Gatorade Fast Twitch drink(not pictured)was .43¢ after Ibotta and Fetch, and the Almond milk was $1.54 after Ibotta and sale price.  There was a Heinz Ibotta offer so the bottles of ketchup(also not pictured)were $1.79 each which was cheaper than the on sale Hunt's same size bottles at Kroger.

 I found money!

On Wednesday I found this dime at Kroger while waiting for a motorized cart.

Total Found in last Week.... .10¢
Total Found this Year....... .76¢

That's all for this past week.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!

Thinking About What Tomorrow Holds

After some friends(and blog friends/readers)experienced having their spouses die I have spent some time thinking about what my life will/would be like if Hubs were to predecease me.  I know I have more health conditions than him but you never know who will go first(for want of a better expression).

I do know I could muddle along with keeping up the house and could ask my son in-law to fix anything I am incapable of doing myself(which is a lot).  But this house sits on 5+ acres and I'd have to resort to paying someone to keep it up(grass cutting, tree trimming, weeding, etc.)Not that I am adverse to paying for yard work but do I really want to worry about all this land needing upkeep.

I would only have my 2 dogs to keep me company if Hubs passes and once the dogs die I can't see myself living here all by myself and would need one of my kids to take me in most probably, if they would have me.

All this sort of thinking was so far off my radar until Kim's hubby died on Christmas.  Now living after Hubs death is about all I can think about.  Gosh, I am old and feel like I am running out of time. ;-)  And all this is inevitable unless Hubs outlives me(which is highly possible).

I don't mean to sound so morbid but this is where my mind goes to lately.

I saw this Youtube piece recently too that has me thinking...

This Week on the Dining Table

The "Spring Has Sprung" Edition.....

On the way to my wound care appointment last Wednesday I noticed massive amounts of Wisteria vines had bloomed everywhere.  Much prettier than the massive pollen dump I've been seeing the last few weeks.

Onward to the meal planning!

This is what was planned.......
1. Sunday--Cheese Ravioli, Salad
2. Monday--Chicken Enchiladas
3. Tuesday--Shrimp Alfredo, Creamed Spinach
4. Wednesday--Lunch out after dr. appt.
5. Thursday--Chicken Teriyaki Stir-Fry w/Veggies, Rice
6.  Friday--Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, Sweet Potato Wedges
7. Saturday--Chicken Tenders, Veggies TBD

And here's what actually happened........
1. Sunday--Cheese Ravioli, Salad
2. Monday--Chicken Enchiladas(I just had Spanish rice as I don't care for Enchiladas.)
3. Tuesday--Shrimp and Primavera Alfredo Fettuccine
4. Wednesday--Lunch out after dr. appt.
5. Thursday--Leftovers(I has sweet potato fries)
6.  Friday--Corned Beef, Cabbage, Baked Tater
7. Saturday--Leftover Fettuccine

Friday changed as I didn't realize it was St. Patrick's Day when I made the menu last week.  And we were out of fettuccine noodles so that dish was made with linguine.
Thursday, Friday and Saturdays planned meals didn't happen(again).

What got put into the freezer last week....
*  1 box of Beer Battered Fish
*  a pan of Chicken Enchiladas

What got taken out of the freezer and used...
*  1/2 bag of Ravioli
*  1 large Chicken Breast
*  1 bag of Shrimp
*  1 bag of CA Medley veggies

Last week Hubs picked up 2 items at Walmart, picked up Zero sugar Soda at Dollar General and we both hit Kroger on Wednesday and spent a total of $103.33.
This brings our food/toiletries/paper goods Total to $347.77 for March so far.

There are 11 shopping days left in March.

I've earned $69.46 on Ibotta in March.
I've earned $2.96 on Checkout51 in March.
I've earned $28.50 on Coupons dotcom in March.
I've earned 29,073 points from shopping on Fetch in March.
I earned 691 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in March.
I've earned 517 SB from food shopping on Swag Bucks in March.

That's $100.92 in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Fetch)on $347.77 in grocery spending so in reality it's $246.85 in food spending after the 3 rebate apps I count.

My savings percentage for the last week was 41.09% and the monthly savings total for March comes in at 35.77% so far.

Leftovers going into this week.....some cabbage, corned beef, broccoli.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--Chicken Parm, Roasted Asparagus
2. Monday--Lemon Pepper Chicken w/Zucchini in Tomato Sauce, Rice
3. Tuesday--Tacos or Taco Salad
4. Wednesday--Chicken Teriyaki Stir-Fry w/Veggies, Rice
5. Thursday--Dental Work so ??
6.  Friday--Leftovers
7. Saturday--Leftovers

What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu?  Nothing. Kroger had asparagus and zucchini on sale so I crafted those meals around the fresh produce.  The Taco will use cooked ground beef sitting in the fridge.  Lots of dental work on Thursday(yay me!)so I'll probably be relegated to Jello for dinner and Hubs will have to fend for himself.  If the leftover don't hold out for Fri. and Sat. maybe a Zalad from Zaxby's will be in my future on one of those evenings. 8-)

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Oh Goody Medicare Time!

Our finances are going to be changing next month as Hubs turns 65 and goes on Medicare.

The good thing is our monthly health insurance premium gets cut in half as I am the only one who will be covered under that policy so it will be a $1061.00 outlay instead of $2270.99 per month(that's over $27K per year to just have medical coverage....using it is even more $$$).  Hubs Medicare will cost $164.90 for Part B and $94.11 for the supplement he chose so his part goes from $1061.00 to $258.90.

That $2270.99 healthcare premium includes vision for Hubs and dental care for both of us.  The dental care goes away when Hubs turn 65 in April.  He can get dental as there are plans for 65+ year olds but I am SOOL until next year when I turn 65 unless I can find a policy that isn't ridiculously expensive to cover me for 8 months.  So  I am getting everything taken care of before April ends.  I'll probably need a cleaning come Fall and our dentist charges under $100 if you have to pay cash and don't have coverage so I'll be vigilant about flossing and brushing from now on(as we all should be). ;-)  And hoping nothing bad/expensive pops up before January 2024.

$2270.99 in healthcare premiums in 2023 versus $1320.01 starting next month, a savings of $950.98 monthly.

But along with this good news, there is not so good news...Hubs monthly  annuity payment goes down.  His annuity was front loaded, meaning we received larger payments until he hit 65 yr. old(sort of to offset what we had to pay out of pocket in healthcare premiums), then the monthly payment goes down by $553.96 per month.  Between the two changes(healthcare payments going down and annuity payments going down)we are in more the black by almost $400 per month still so it's not all bad news.

It might take a few months to see where the budget lands as all this changes.

Then in the Fall(October or so)I get to do the Medicare supplement decision dance.  I can't wait.**see Sluggy roll her eyes.

Frugal Friday.....the March 17th Edition

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

There are a few Frugal wins this past week......

*  We went to trivia on Monday and we won 2nd place!

Next time drinks at Trivia are free!

*  I don't "do" Ibotta all the time now(I just don't go to the store enough to do all the weekly, weekend and big bonuses).  But I do a few now and again.  On Wednesday my big wins at Kroger were these.....

There was an 80¢ off digital Kroger Q on the Ragu making it $1.39 OOP, the Chili was $1.29 after Kroger Q x5 plus a .50¢ Ibotta rebate making it .79¢ per can(got 5 of those for Hubs), the Kraft salad dressing was $1.29 w/Kroger Q and the Heinz ketchup was $1.79 after a $2.50 Ibotta rebate(limt 2).

I also picked up .99¢ lb. aparagus, $1.19 lb. zucchini and a 1/2 price corned beef which I am cooking tonight.

*  I've cobbled together a pantry in the laundry/utility room using metal wire rack shelving.  The only problem is cans and bottles fall over if not placed just right on the shelves.  Instead of spending $$ for plastic liners they sell for these I cut out cardboard from some of these boxes we used in the move and made liners out of that.

 I found money!

Hubs went to Walmart on Monday and found this penny.

I found this nickel at Kroger on the side of the self-checkout machine.  I also spied a penny at a different machine but someone was using it so I couldn't pick that coin up. 8-(

Total Found in last Week.... .06¢
Total Found this Year....... .66¢

That's all for this past week.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!

This Week on the Dining Table

The "WTF?!" Edition.....

Will someone explain to me what the heck this billboard means?  "The Multiverse of Gordon".

Now Gordon McKernan is a local ambulance chaser lawyer.  He's got billboards everywhere and has tv commercials running non-stop.
I heard this commercial of his was even played during this year's Super Bowl........

I guess this Multiverse thing is related to the comic world?
I know this has nothing to do with meal plans but I feel so old that I don't "get this". ;-)

There are 18 shopping days left in March.

I've earned $47.69 on Ibotta in March.
I've earned $1.96 on Checkout51 in March.
I've earned $23.50 on Coupons dotcom in March.
I've earned 28,568 points from shopping on Fetch in March.
I earned 680 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in March.
I've earned 517 SB from food shopping on Swag Bucks in March.

That's $73.15 in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Fetch)on $244.44 in grocery spending so in reality it's $171.29 in food spending after the 3 rebate apps I count.

My savings percentage for the last week was 32.23% and the monthly savings total for March comes in at 33.23% so far.

Leftovers going into this week.....1 piece of pecan chicken, broccoli, half a piece of catfish, cole slaw.

Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--Cheese Ravioli, Salad
2. Monday--Chicken Enchiladas
3. Tuesday--Shrimp Alfredo, Creamed Spinach
4. Wednesday--Lunch out after dr. appt.
5. Thursday--Chicken Teriyaki Stir-Fry w/Veggies, Rice
6.  Friday--Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, Sweet Potato Wedges

What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu?  Nothing.  I've got everything I need.  Just trying to use up some lingerers in the freezer.

What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?

Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?

Any deals on food at your stores this week?

Frugal Friday....the March 10th Edition

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

There are a few Frugal wins this past week......

*  I had a burst of energy on Sunday and was trying to put more stuff away in the Master Bathroom.  There are 4 drawers in the middle of the double sink cabinet there.  I noticed that the bottom drawer barely wouldn't fully close and I was wanting to put things away in it.  I had a hunch so I pulled the drawer out and used my trusty broom to clean the slot that held it and here is what I found.....

All this--a pack of wax melts, a pair of cheap sunglasses, a comb attachment to some grooming tool, 2 plastic covers to an unknown appliance and a package of Benadryl--were behind that drawer keeping from closing completely.

The Benadryl was crushed but unused so that went into our medicine stockpile so yay for free OTCs!

 And with the Pollen in full dump mode here I am sure it will get used shortly. 8-)

We haven't had this severe a dump but I noticed Hubs car was yellow/green instead of the Champagne color it usually is on Wednesday.

*  I don't "do" Ibotta all the time now(I just don't go to the store enough to do all the weekly, weekend and big bonuses).  But I do a few now and again.  On Wednesday my big wins were these.....

A pack of mandarin oranges for .88¢ after using a $2/1 Q.

A bottle of Claritin for $2.86 after Ibotta/Coupon dotcom/Fetch.

A bottle of some new Allergy med for a $2.17 moneymaker after Ibotta/Coupons dotcom/Fetch.  These are children's meds but adults can use them too, might have to increase the dosage but still, almost free!

Another Air Wick essential oils air freshener for a $2.02 moneymaker after Ibotta and Coupons dotcom.

If I just count the items I bought that had rebates/coupons and count the $20 gift card I had from past Ibotta purchases I only spent $10.16 OOP on those 28 items after $41.44 in rebates, $23.50 in digital coupons and $8.40 in Fetch points.

*  I found money!

After our doctor's exam on Friday we hit the local Chinese restaurant for lunch.  I spied .06¢ under the counter when Hubs went to pay.

On Wednesday after our trip to the Wound  Care Clinic I snagged an electric cart at Walmart and we picked up groceries and a couple of Rxs. I snagged the nickel just lying in an aisle and the dime under the self-checkout machine we used to pay.

I did a load of laundry on Thursday and as I was putting the broom back(need to use it to reach clothes in the washer because I am too short to reach stuff in the very bottom)I spied a white round disc jutting out of the floor/wall trim.  Went and washed it and found a penny under all that dirt/washing powder/oxidation.

Total Found in last Week.... .22¢
Total Found this Year....... .60¢

That's all for this past week.

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!
