The "new" regime won't negate your marriage. "Before 2015, whether a same-sex couple could marry varied by state. With its 5-4 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court extended the federal right to marry to same-sex couples. It was a reflection of how much the country’s views of same-sex relationships had already shifted, and would continue to do so in the years that followed." In DOMA, SCOTUS court struck down the federal law because it denies same-sex couples the "equal liberty" guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment. Remember that a Reagan appointee to the court, Anthony Kennedy, wrote the majority opinion. I really don't think you have much to worry about as the SCOTUS is as balanced as it can be(4 vs. 5)at the moment. And we need to worry about undocumented aliens and crime more than same sex marriage as an issue. I am sorry I didn't have anything in the stock market last week. 8-(
And women thought Roe v Wade was untouchable. It's not what issue is or isn't "most" important to worry about, but the fundamental fear that their is a right wing, so called "Christian Values " coalition with real power, that are going to use every crack to take away rights previously hard fought for. My personal top issue is access to health care for everyone. Guess who wants to repeal, but not fix any problems with the ACA, with just a concept of a plan. Then, makes a pact with Kennedy for a place in the cabinet- and appoints an anti environmental protection zealot to oversee the EPA. I'm living in an area that the ground water is killing people because decades ago, there were not standards. Spo has good cause to have fear. Women have good cause to fear their rights will be eroded. But yeah, cheaper gas after they drill the hell out of public lands...so worth the erosion human rights.

ReplyDeleteAfter the election my stocks went up by 20K, as did my fear the new regime will negate my marriage.
