Frugal Friday 2023.....the August 18th Edition

Welcome to Frugal Friday!

If my mother was still alive, today would have been her 89th Birthday.  Here she is at my high school graduation.  Dig my huge glasses! lol

And here she is in the mode she cherished most, being a Grandma to my three children.  Here she is with my daughter about 7 years before she passed.  There is no one like your mother and I miss her every day.....Happy Heavenly Birthday Mom!

There are very few Frugal wins this past week but here goes......

*  Got a cantaloupe this past Monday for $1.97.  Go me.

*  Two PT appointments this past week which costs Zero OOP.

*  Had an MRI at the behest of my neurologist on Wednesday.  Lawd that is something I NEVER want to repeat!(Yah, I have a touch of claustrophobia.)  At least I don't owe anything for it. 8-)

*  Last Friday I hit up Dollar General as they had $6 off when you bought 2 gift cards(certain ones).

I got 2 x Lowe's gift cards.   The $6 came to just over 10% off.  Not great but better than a poke in the eye.  That seems to be where we spend a lot of our cash these days-Lowe's and the Home Despot. ;-)

*  Went to Ollie's and picked up a few food items and freezer bags on Thursday.  Hubs got some cereals and nuts.  I picked up some staples like Celery Seed, Breadcrumbs, marked down Stuffing, Dark Chocolate Chips and Ketchup.  Also got some Cashews for me to add to Stir-Frys.

*  Hit up Walmart and found this clearance find......

These blueberry yogurts were half price at $1.49 so $3.98 OOP.   I had a $1 Ibotta rebate and a Shopmium $1/1 Digital Q so both packs cost me $1.00 combined.

*  I found money!

I found a penny on the sidewalk outside the medical building where I had an MRI done on Wednesday.

Total Found in last Week.... .01¢
Total Found this Year.......$3.04

That's all for this past week.  Just sitting home is frugal, right?

Any frugal wins in your neck of the woods?  Let's hear all about them!

  1. For some reason I couldn’t post
on your Twin Falls trip but it looked gorgeous! I am under the weather having caught something at work so no bargains. Will test for Covid later today. Cindy in the South

  2. The only bargain was Kraft Chunks or shreds 4/$10. We didn't need any, but I got 4 chunks. I am also trying to cut back on dairy, so at some point, I cannot buy cheap cheese or buy a new refrigerator to store it.
When I had MRIs, I would go to sleep in the tube with all the racket. Then, one day I accidentally moved to try to scratch my nose before the machine started. Now, I have to have an open MRI. I will have to be sedated to ever go in the tube again.

  3. Nothing really frugal here, but I need to go thru my fridge and reorganize it.

  4. My diabetic cat only eats Sheba pate. I combined an $8 Kroger coupon with a $4 Ibotta rebate which made it much cheaper than even Amazon subscribe and save.

Zucchini is slowing down and the cucumbers are done but I’m still picking quite a few tomatoes. The pool just plain sucks this year and I need to go buy more shock today. I would be done with it but we have a week of weather in the 90s starting tomorrow.

  5. Aren't you the cutest! And your Mom looks so happy and proud. I miss my Mom every day too.
Hope your MRI was ok and that you get a good report. I'm not usually claustrophobic so it didn't bother me too much when I had one. My husband almost had a panic attack when we went on the Mission Space ride, so I dread if he ever has to have a MRI.

  6. I got a cantaloupe for $.99 yesterday, which I was pretty excited by.

Otherwise, the usual. I used $20 in grocery store rewards to pick up a few back to school snacks, & offset the cost of ingredients for a cake Nick wanted to make for a friend.

  7. Next time I am at the grocery store I will have a look-see at the muskmelons and see how much they cost. I've recently got some regardless of price. Not bad, tasting.

  8. I had really big glasses about the same years, I suppose.
