The "Treading Water" Edition.....
An anonymous person didn't care for my selfie on the beach in Florida last time so here's another shot of me on the beach....well part of a leg and toes. 8-)
This week we are still treading water in Louisiana and living at Daughter and Son in-law's house. We closed on our house here but we have nothing to put in it yet so living at Daughter's still. Anybody know how to get smoke out of a house? The previous owners were smokers. bleh.

I spent $227.23 on food/toiletries/HBA this last week at Kroger and Walmart.
This brings our food/toiletries/paper goods Total to $319.39 for October so far. Most of my Kroger trip was to get some staples on sale as I am in "build up the pantry" mode.
There are 7 shopping days left in October.
I've earned $86.49 on Ibotta in October.
I've earned $18.00 on Checkout51 in October.
I've earned $1.00 on Coupons dotcom in October.
I've earned 3,377 points from shopping on Fetch in October.
I earned 1,646 points from food shopping on Shop Kick in October.
I've earned $0 from food shopping on Swag Bucks in October.
That's $105.49 in rebates(not counting the Shop Kick/Swag Bucks/Fetch)on $319.39 in grocery spending so in reality it's $213.90 spent after the 3 rebate apps I count.
My savings percentage for the last week was 30.54% and the monthly savings total for October comes in at 28.93% so far.
Leftovers going into this week....don't know, don't care.
Here is this week's "food plan".....
1. Sunday--?
2. Monday--?
3. Tuesday--?
4. Wednesday--?
5. Thursday--?
6. Friday--?
7. Saturday--?
What do I need to buy to fix everything on this menu? Not my menu and I don't shop for it. I've got some tv dinners for the nights we don't have the daughter's box o' meals.
What is getting fixed and served at your house this week?
Was last week's plan successful, did you go off plan or did you not even plan what was going to be eaten last week?
Any deals on food at your stores this week?

I am not a de-smoker expert but here is my guess. Wash everything that can get washed and paint everything else. That should cover it. My husband stopped smoking in his pickup and it took five years to get the smell out of the upholstery…luckily your new home won’t have the prior owners furniture or curtains…I hope. Hilogene in Az
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your closing. I hope you'll share pics of your new home. There's a company called Servpro that removes smoke damage from fires. They could probably do cigarette smoke odors as well.
ReplyDeleteWe rented an ozone generator for our garage as my dad was a heavy smoker. Worked so well we Ended up purchasing one from Amazon for about $250. Used in his room, truck, in a studio after pot smoking tenant left, etc. kids borrow once in awhile when they or friends move. Well worth the money.
ReplyDeleteThat leg looks crispy! Hope you didn’t peel for the next week. I had a late summer burn like that but worth it for September pool weather.
ReplyDeleteI’m trying peanut noodles for the third time tonight. Giving up if they’re still not good. Father in law gave us a bag of limes so I’ll add a squirt and hope for the best.

You can buy Fels-Naptha bar soap at Walmart and other places. Grate it on paper plates and put one in each room.
ReplyDeleteIt works wonders. I used this to remove dead mouse smell.
My first house was owned by a smoker. My mom came for a visit and used this "concoction" She put a cup of vinegar and a cup of baking soda with a 1/4 cup of blue Dawn in a 3 gallon bucket of water so hot it turned her hands red. Then she scrubbed every surface and rinsed several times. But it worked. In the end we had to paint the master bedroom and kitchen, both had dark frames around anything that was on the walls. We also had the carpets steamed cleaned.
ReplyDeleteLOC by Amway cleans the smoke stain and odor. I love it. I would clean all surfaces with LOC. As for carpets, I probably would replace. What was wrong with the other beach picture? Now, you will have to hold up a leg and foot to identify yourself. That sounds very provocative!
ReplyDeleteI hope you post pics of new house! I like looking at homes of other folks but I loathe moving so glad you are done with that. I think I mentioned before I burn at the beach so I guess whomever commented about your pic wouldn’t like my picture either. Even if I have a hat on, I burn. I guess it is the reflection of white sand, I don’t know. Love Florida and Alabama beaches but has to be early in morning or late in evening. I simply cannot handle the sun. I have to have serious tree shade. I tend to hang at lakes or rivers for that reason. One thing about your menu, it is definitely flexible… lol. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteTough one on the smoke smell. You'll really appreciate your home and kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how to get smoke out of a house, besides painting walls and ceilings and trim, and removing wall to wall carpet. (I can't bear wall to wall in any case.)
ReplyDeleteMy meals have been catch-as-catch-can. Last night was cottage pie made with Saturday's leftover meatloaf and gravy, Wednesday's leftover steak, and mashed potatoes from...Saturday, I think. Tonight I made lasagna. I have no idea what will happen for the rest of the week. I'm taking the days as they come. I know I didn't move far these past two times, but it was very challenging, so I wish you the best. Can't wait to hear about your new place!
white vinegar to wash everything down. Activated charcoal sat around... or call a local hotel and see what they use.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on closing on your new house! You're one step closer to getting settled.
ReplyDeleteYou will have to repaint walls with a special kind of paint. Sissie's husband will know. Also replace all carpeting. You really can't get the smell out of carpeting.
ReplyDeleteI used to work for a fire restoration company. Ozone machine is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteThe paint is called "Kilz" and can be found at Lowe's/Home Depot. I think they can tint it too so it could act as primer.
ReplyDeleteI second the ozone machine. We have had one for about 30 years and wouldn't be without it. It kills odors, mold and just what we call "other people smell".
ReplyDeleteMy son also bought a beautiful old home that the ceilings were yellow with smoke stains. Luckily everything taken down to beautiful wood floors. Every surface scrubbed and all the wall paper removed if up and everything primed with kilz and repainted! It was a hard job but the house is beautiful! One room had weird paint on the walls and two book cases. We had to use the wallpaper steamer and the paint would kind of bubble when hot and we had to peel it off! It stretched almost like a balloon. That ozone machine sounds promising! Jre
ReplyDeleteI have my parents end tables from way back I. The 1970s and even today sometimes I’ll get a whiff of smoke from them. It’s really weird as if the wood is penetrated with that smell.
ReplyDeleteThe beach looks good! My in-laws bought a house owned by smokers. We washed all the walls /celilings with sugar soap, steam cleaned carpets and washed the curtains & that removed it, we did not want to have to paint.
ReplyDeleteNothing in the freezer? Say it ain't so!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend is my Hallowe'en dinner.
On the beach comment, some people are just...not fit for polite company. I enjoy the pics!
